Chapter Three: Fallout
Tight, wet heat surrounded him, slick and welcoming. His muscles were burning, his blood boiling in his very veins. So good. The soft, warm flesh of his mate, her sweat and blood covered form writhing under him. . . Her back arching under him, whimpers escaping as he claimed her flesh . . . . Taking what he had to offer and giving in return.
Forbidden ecstasy . . . .
Harry woke up, eyes blinking at the blurry white ceiling above him. His heart pounded in his chest. Whether from pain, adrenaline, or pure unadultured lust, he did not know. He tried to move his arm, moaning as the pain roared into existence at the feeble movement. There was not a single part of his body that did not hurt. It seemed to be centered around his ribs, the pain so bright it almost sent him back into unconsciousness. He stilled, breathing shallowly to control the throbbing pain.
"Harry?" Someone moved into his line of vision, a mass of dirty blonde hair.
"Remus." Harry started coughing as his dry throat rebelled. Glass tinkled then a straw was placed against his chapped lips. Thirsty, Harry drank greedily, relishing in the pure taste of the cold water. "G-Ginny, where's she? And Fenrir."
Remus placed the glass back on the table. "Ginny's safe, Harry. We found both of you and brought you back here to Hogwarts. Fenrir did a great deal of damage to you so you lost a fair amount of blood though you have added to your collection of scars, unfortunately. You don't know how lucky you are." His werewolf friend eyes him warily. "Do you remember anything from last night, Harry?" The words came out slow and uncertain as if Remus was unsure whether to ask him or not.
Harry closed his eyes, trying to remember anything before he lost consciousness. What happened? Why was everything so hard to remember? Images came back to him, flashes of Ginny laid out for Fenrir's twisted pleasure. Ginny struggling against Fenrir's advances then pain, so much pain . . . Ginny crawling away, protesting, fighting him even as he mounted her hungrily . . . Ginny crying out in pain as he plunged viciously into her . . . .
"NO!" He tried to get up but Remus grabbed him, pinning him to the bed. He struggled even as the pain doubled, constricting his chest. His breathing became labored as his chest struggled to draw in air. Harry kicked out, trying to remove the feeling of being cages as the bedding fell to the ground in a crumpled heap. His hands grabbed at Remus' arms, the grip in them crushing. "No! Remus, don't- I – Ginny! Tell me it didn't happen!" Harry pleaded with Remus, his eyes distraught.
"She's fine, Harry." He started, his eyes full of sorrow and emotional pain for the boy he saw as a nephew.
"Don't LIE TO ME!" Harry screamed, tears coursing down his cheeks. "Don't you dare lie to me! I infected her. I-I raped h-her." The realization hit him and he collapsed back onto the bed sobbing. "Oh, Merlin, I raped her." He repeated softly, covering his face with his bandaged arms. "She'll never forgive me." Remus watched in sadness as his best friend's son started to rock himself, sobbing uncontrollably.
"Listen to me, Harry. It's not your fault. The werewolf is uncontrollable without the Wolfsbane potion. His instincts controlled you. You don't know how lucky that Ginny is still alive. Most would just rip their girlfriends apart like any other." Remus said, trying to pull Harry's arms from his face but the boy didn't respond to him.
He saw Poppy scurrying from her office, a vial in hand. With her help, they pulled his arms from his face long enough to pour the potion down Harry's throat. Welcoming the darkness, Harry slipped into a dreamless sleep.
Remus leaned back, running a hand through his graying hair. "How long is that going to keep him asleep, Poppy?"
"With his healing abilities, I can't really say but you should have at least a good six hours if not the full twelve." She waved her wand over him, checking his vitals to make sure he hadn't pulled the magical stitches Poppy had placed on his skin to pull the jagged wounds together. "He's caused a bit of bleeding in his shoulders and sides. Not enough for me to re-bandage them, however. I'm afraid, due to the nature of the wounds, they will take a while to heal despite the potions. I don't have to remind you that they will scar. Thankfully, there have been little advances in werewolf treatment so they won't be as bad as they could have been."
Remus nodded, knowing the nature of werewolf bites. His own body was littered with the scars he had received while being a werewolf. There was something in the werewolf saliva that prevented the human body from effectively healing the wounds caused by the infected individuals thus causing the increased scarring from such bites and injuries. "I'm going to go and see Sirius and Dumbledore. He needs to know that Harry woke up for a bit."
"I heard he was talking to the Weasleys about what will happen." Poppy gave a sad look at the slumbering teen. "They will not abandon him, will they?"
"I wish I could say they won't but they were raised in traditional Wizarding homes and we know what the older generations think about werewolves. I just hope that it won't cause any more problems." Remus gave a small smile. "I know for a fact that Sirius and I will stay with him. Call us if he wakes up before we get back." With one last glance at his best friend's son, Remus left the infirmary.
Pomfrey sighed, casting one last charm to make sure the potion was working properly before leaving Harry to his sleep. "As if the poor boy didn't have enough to worry about."
"HE WHAT!" Charlie roared, jumping to his feet. "He took advantage of my sister!"
"Charlie, sit down." Arthur ordered calmly, holding his wife's hand in his own. "You are to listen to us until we are finished." His third oldest son sat down in his chair, his face red and trembling with rage. "Harry is not at fault for this. Once Fenrir bit him and he transformed into a werewolf, his animal instincts took over as he didn't take the Wolfsbane which would have helped him control the creature's urges. Yes, they had forced sex but it was neither Harry's nor Ginny's choice."
Ron buried his face into his hands, his mind trying to process what his dad was telling them. His best mate was now a werewolf, just like Remus, and he had also infected his younger sister, making her one as well. Part of him blamed Harry for touching her. If he wasn't her boyfriend, he wouldn't have looked at her. He would not have noticed her and let her be. But another part, the more mature part knew that was a lie. "If Harry hadn't ra-uhm, had se- slept with her, what would have happened?" He asked slowly, cringing at the thoughts the sentence had brought up.
Hermione looked sick, her face unnaturally drawn. Her hands twisted around each other in her lap, the only sign of her nervousness. "He's still the same, right?"
"Ms. Granger, Harry will not be the same person he was mentally before all of this. Being turned into a werewolf and turning his girlfriend as well will cause him great grief and guilt, of which, no doubt will affect him on some levels. Physically, he will gain new scars. Poppy is treating those as best as she could." Dumbledore looked at them gravely. "As for your question, Mr. Weasley, your sister would have most likely have been ripped apart by Harry. Werewolves without the Wolfsbane potion are known to be extremely violent, to human, other animals, and even to each other. To even have Harry take Ms. Weasley in the manner, though rough, as he did might suggest that underneath all of those instincts and urges, he recognized her on some basic level."
"Then he shouldn't have touched her." Charlie growled, hands unclenching and clenching. "He raped our sister and you're defending him!" The muscles under the robes were bunching and releasing, no doubt a sign to how much he wanted to physically hit something. Out of all of the Weasley boys, Charlie was the most physical in dealing with issues. In fact, Mrs. Weasley had to order Charlie to de-gnome the garden by himself to work off some of his anger.
Ron spun to face his brother, eyes flashing. "You don't know him like we do! You weren't here the past years, you great bloody prat!"
"Ron!" Molly glared at her son, warning him to calm down. A knock sounded on the door, Remus stepping into the office.
"News, Remus?"
"Harry woke up. I started gave him a brief summary of what happened. I asked him if there was anything he remembered. Apparently, it was the wrong question to ask so soon. His reaction was enough for Poppy to pour a vial of Dreamless Sleep potion down his throat." He sat down in the chair next to Arthur. "He's blaming himself for everything. I don't think he even registered that he killed Fenrir. He was worrying purely about Ginny, not even caring enough about his wounds."
"He's okay, right?" Ron and Hermione asked at the same time.
"Poppy said it wasn't enough to redo the bandages but enough to cause some more discomfort when he wakes up again." Remus looked at Dumbledore. "What are we going to do about Harry's vacation? I'm sure that his mental state isn't going to be helped by the Dursleys. Once they learn he's a werewolf, they're going to do something that they won't regret."
"Remus, you know Harry is protected by the blood wards there-" Dumbledore started.
"Dumbledore, if you ever did care about the boy, he would not be going back there! Not like this! Harry doesn't have anyone in that household to care for him. We're lucky that Ginny has a loving family to care for her and see her through this. Let Harry stay with me and Sirius in Grimmauld place."
"Albus," Molly beseeched. "This is the best thing we can do for Harry. They know the boy. Do you really believe that his mental state will survive his abusive relatives after this? The things the twins hinted at make us believe that that house isn't suitable for even a Malfoy."
Dumbledore leaned back, hands drifting to his temples. The blood wards protected Harry but they were soon give out in two months, the moment Harry turned seventeen. Grimmauld place was under a Fidelis Charm with him as the Secret Keeper. After the blood wards, it was the safest way to protect Harry with the added benefit of Harry being with those he loved. "Alright, Remus, Harry will go with you and Sirius during the summer vacation. Thankfully, you have a place where both of you can transform for the nights of the full moon."
"Perhaps we will be able to use it for Ginny, if you don't mind Sirius." Arthur asked.
Molly blanched. "What about Harry and Ginny?"
"We can have Professor Snape brew the Wolfsbane potion for all three of them. With Remus and Sirius acting as guards, nothing will happen." Dumbledore stated.
Ron looked up, a hopeful look on his face. "Professor, is there any way I can become an Animagus like Sirius?" Hermione perked up, her eyes brightening with the chance she might be there for her friend in some form.
"Ron!" Molly screeched. "It's too dangerous for you. You could get stuck or worse."
"Me too." Charlie said, face still slightly flushed, lips set in a thin white line.
"If you are willing to study hard, we can discuss it with Professor McGonagall." Dumbledore stared at all of them. "Becoming an Animagus isn't to be taken lightly and it is a difficult road that few ever achieve."
"We're willing to do it for Harry and Ginny." Hermione answered.
Charlie stood up. "I need to go take a walk." He left before anyone could say anything.
"Mum, are you going to tell Bill, Fleur, and the twins?" Ron asked, staring at his feet.
"Yes, Ron. They should know after all. I'm sure Billy will not take the news lightly as he was able to get through with only new scars." Molly sniffed, thinking her oldest son would have to marry with those mark on his face. "Your dad will be leaving later today. I will be staying with your sister."
"Where is she?" Hermione asked, thinking to visit her and Harry.
"Both of them are in private rooms off the infirmary. You will need a password to get in."
"Can we go?"
"She won't wake up until later." Molly answered grimly.
"I don't care, mum. I want to see her." Ron said stubbornly.
"I think we've done we can do, Molly. I'm going to have to talk to Remus to set up the details for Harry's move to Grimmauld place." Dumbledore stated lightly.
"Will you mind if I use your floo, Albus? I would like to go right now to St. Mungo's." Arthur stood, hugging his wife and Ron. "I'm sure Charlie will turn around. I just hope the twins and Bill take it in stride." With a final goodbye, Arthur disappeared in a flash of green flame.
"Come on." Molly led her son and his friend down to where Ginny was.
Ron studied the pale, drawn face before him, comparing it to the vibrant face of his sister he had known before all of this. Across from him, Hermione sat, lost in her own thoughts. There were little nicks and scratches on Ginny's skin, some of the deeper ones drawn together with butterfly bandages. His mum had told him and his brothers that Ginny hadn't been wounded like Harry had been. His stomach twisted again at how his little sister had gotten infected, Ron swallowing to keep his meager lunch down.
His mind turned to his best friend, the one who had been the one to infect her. Ron's hands lifted to his face, roughly wiping at his cheeks. He had been friends with Harry for six years now and at times, it was unreal that he was actually friends with Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, the Savior of the Wizarding World.
Growing up, his dad had told all of the Weasley boys fairy tales that starred Harry in the role of the knight in shining armor, the one to save the innocent and defeat the dark wizards, throwing them all back into the darkness where they came from. Meeting Harry on the train had changed all that. To him, Harry had looked like any normal boy. But once they had arrived at Hogwarts, Ron could see the attention that Harry received, the finger pointing, the whispers behind hands, eyes tracking his every move. Ron had to admit, all that attention had made him jealous in the beginning. Merlin, sometimes he still felt jealous but with Hermione's help, he was letting that jealousy go. Harry had only been a baby when Voldemort had come to kill his parents, becoming an orphan before his second Christmas. In those first years, he had ignored how everyone turned on him when Harry did mistakes. He had only realized this only last year when Harry been under so much pressure, when everyone had turned their backs on him for telling the truth. The realization was driven deeper during the running battle at the Ministry when he saw the type of man Harry would become. Seeing Harry rising up to the challenge had shaken Ron out of his safe little shell. It was then that Ron had finally understood that this wasn't a game any longer.
It was the reason why Ron had swallowed the threats that he would have said to any other boy who tried to date his sister. Ginny definitely could have chosen a boy that did not deserve her. It still did not mollify the fact that Ginny would now be a bigger target than before. Being a blood traitor was bad enough. Being a blood traitor who was the girlfriend of the Boy Who Lived was even worse. Charlie's accusations came back to Ron.
If Harry hadn't been Ginny's boyfriend, then Fenrir wouldn't have kidnapped her. If he hadn't been her boyfriend, his werewolf mind would not have focused on Ginny. But the others had said if that had been true, he would have killed her just like he had done to Fenrir. Then he wouldn't have had a sister as she would have been ripped apart, her body left to rot.
But it was Harry. He could have found another way to free himself and escape with Ginny without getting her infected. This was the wizard who had faced Voldemort since the age of eleven. Just last year, he had stood up against He Who Must Not Be Named when the older wizard had asked for the prophecy. He had taken on a hundred dementors and won when it came down to protect Sirius back in their third year. Harry had faced a 60-foot basilisk by himself with only a magical hat and Fawkes as back-up. He was stronger than Ron, he could have done it.
Right?
"Ron?"
Startled, the tall teen almost fell backwards, barely keeping his body from upsetting the bed. "Ginny?"
"Where am I?" His younger sister tried to move but Hermione quickly laid her hands on her shoulders. Ginny gave up, lying back down carefully. "Where's Harry?"
"He's fine. Pomfrey has tended to him so he can heal from Fenrir's attack." Ron motioned Hermione to get the nurse. "He's going to get new scars from what I heard. Everyone else made it out safely during the attack. We got a few Death Eaters. Malfoy is somewhere." Ron babbled on, noticing her expression. She was trying to remember something and he had a hunch. "The ministry is in an uproar about having Death Eaters on the grounds. All I know are changes are coming for next year."
"Ms. Weasley?" Pomfrey came bustling in, followed by Molly who ushered Ron and Hermione out despite their protests. "Can you please wait while I look her over?" Minutes passed while Pomfrey talked with Ginny, asking questions about her body and what did she do during the fight. After casting one last spell, Pomfrey announced her physically recovered before leaving Mrs. Weasley with her daughter.
Molly sat down, her face unnaturally closed. "Ginny, do you remember anything after you were kidnapped by Fenrir?"
Ginny cocked her head, trying to remember. "He was carrying us, trying to get far away from Hogwarts while searching for a way to get back to his master." She paused. "We stopped. He tied Harry to a tree. . ." The bright face of the moon . . . Howls of enraged animals. . . . Musky, sweat, blood. . . Harry moving strongly behind her. . . The warmth spreading through her as he came . . . Running through the forest, next to her mate . . . "No." She moaned, dropping her face into her hands. "It's not real." Humiliation burned through her. Did everyone know?
Molly leaned forward, taking Ginny into her arms. "It's going to be okay, Ginny. We'll get through this as a family." She kissed her forehead, murmuring softly.
Ginny didn't hear her mom as she rambled on, wondering if anything was ever going to be the same between her and Harry, if anyone else knew what had gone on. He had taken her against her will though she knew in her heart and mind that it wasn't his fault. Just like her, he had been a victim of the circumstances they had found themselves in. Harry had been ruled by the animal's innate feral instinct the moment the virus had entered his body. Despite that, she couldn't help but feel humiliated at being used like that for the animal's pleasure. It hadn't cared for her comfort, only that she was in position to receive him. The coupling had been violent, rough, everything that Ginny didn't want her first time to be. Instead of fighting back like she wanted to, Ginny had given in to the beast's demands and let it have its way with her. How could she look Harry, much less anyone in the eye?
She wondered if Harry would become like that now. Ginny knew that some individuals showed changes in their personality and characteristics once they'd been turned. While growing up, Ginny had heard that werewolves were promiscuous creatures, bedding everything that moved as the moon neared its zenith. Would Harry cheat on her? Would she cheat on Harry? Would she become a slut and bed everyone that she saw? What about her children? Would they be cursed with the same infection?
The insecurities that Ginny had been able to overcome the past couple of years rose up again, bashing her confidence down. Burying her face, Ginny started crying, her mother trying to comfort her.
Would Harry want her now after seeing her have sex with him in his werewolf form? Would he be disgusted? Or would he look on at other girls to satiate his pleasure? Would he only see her as a slut for pleasuring herself with an animal, no matter that it was him?
She only had Harry for the blissful months since the ending of the championship game and now there was a chance that she would lose him even before they even had a chance.
