Chapter Three
“She wasn’t there,” Lucius said as he entered the house with no preamble. “I seriously doubt she ever was.”
“Minerva said as much,” Severus muttered, as he pruned his black roses. “Which I must say was rather odd.” He looked over to Lucius. “I would have thought out of all the people Miss Granger would have gone to in a depressed state it would be her.”
“Perhaps you don’t know the witch as well as you thought?” Lucius suggested.
“That, my dear friend, does go without saying,” Severus sighed. “Do you know of anyone, anyone at all, that might know where that chit went off to?”
Lucius muttered, “You’ve got to be kidding me. It’s not as if the two of us are on each other’s social calendars. What about you?”
Muttering a curse he said, “I only have one notion and even then it might be a long shot.”

Luna Lovegood sat quietly in front of the two former death eaters taking tea with them as casually as one would during a book club meeting or other social gathering. If anything the two wizards sitting across from her were the ones who found Miss Lovegood’s company rather off putting, as neither one could comprehend half of what she was spouting off about in regards to the magical creatures neither had heard of in random intervals.
“So you’re searching for Hermione as well?” she inquired in a lilting tone.
“Mr. Potter wishes for me to locate her,” Severus told the girl. “He worries for her welfare.”
“He said the very same to me,” Luna murmured. “Oddly, I didn’t believe it any more from him than I do you.” She sipped at her tea once again. “Truth potion? Mmm, it tastes a little different than what I’m accustomed to.”
“You’ve been given veritaserum in the past?” Lucius asked confused as to why someone would want to know anything that may have been rattling around in that witch’s head.
“Oh several times,” she murmured. “Once by Dolores Umbridge, another time by the Wizmogot, and at least three different times that I know of by the Weasley twins alone.” Luna blinked at them owlishly. “Fred and George are rather odd ones when you think about it.”
“That statement coming from you gives it a whole new meaning,” Severus muttered into his tea. “Do you know who she would go to for help?”
“Oh that’s simple,” she murmured. “She would go to Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, or, if she were in very dire straights, Hermione would more than likely go to some people I can’t remember the names of.” When Severus let out a growl, she added, “I do apologize, but there’s nothing to be done for it. I was obliviated. I don’t remember who it is and I couldn’t tell you even if I wanted.”

Looking up at the mysterious castle that seemed surrounded by dark menacing clouds the thought came to Hermione’s mind that only he would find a place like this homey and welcoming. Wanting nothing more than to run away and find a different place to lick at her wounded ego, she made herself walk up the mountain to the carriage station there that would take her the rest of the way to the castle.
Once to the large doors, she stood there debating with herself as to the wisdom of being there at all. He doesn’t want to see you. He’ll turn you away. He’ll…
The doors opened of their own accord, leaving her to wonder if he would come after her if she ran at this point. Chances are that he would. Sighing, Hermione walked into the castle drifting more than walking towards where she thought he was.
It wasn’t until she stopped just outside of a ring of firelight that she knew he was sitting there waiting for her to speak.
“You came here to me? How dire your straights must be, pet, for you to do so.” He studied her a moment. “Did your dream fall apart, hmm? I did try to warn you.”
Hermione stood there, tears absently dripping down her face as she did so. The man rose and went to her, tilting her head up to look into her sorrowful amber eyes.
“It must have been worse than even I thought it would be,” he muttered.
“Where is Rabastan?” she asked hoarsely, making the man she was with let out a small hum of thought.
“Not here.”
Her eyes narrowed slightly, but said nothing.
He lowered his head to hers, brushing a kiss along her forehead. “I am telling you the truth, pet. But it shouldn’t take but a missive to fetch him back home. Is that what you want?”
Her nod was jerky.
“Very well,” he murmured, taking her into his arms and began to lead her over to Rabastan’s and his room. “Anything else you wish for or require?”
“Hold me,” she whispered, her voice thick with tears. “Please, Regulus, hold me.”
His arms went around her, burying his face into the wild mane as he breathed, “For as long as you need.”

Draco was on his way to return a floo call when he found his father trying as he might to speak via the floo to Sirius Black of all people. He would have let this go, but he heard something that had him stopping in his tracks.
“We were hired by your godson to locate Miss Granger…” Draco went to the door of the study, lingering there as he looked in to watch his father. “Damn it all, man. It isn’t as if I’m looking for her for some dastardly intent!”
“I don’t know where she is,” Sirius answered him. “Nor would I tell anyone if I did. As far as my godson, you better find out why exactly he’s looking for her. Something tells me that Harry hasn’t told you the entire truthful story.”
“What? I don’t care…”
“Neither do I,” Sirius cut him off. “Goodbye, Malfoy.”
“Shit,” Lucius muttered as he stood up straight, noticing for the first time that his son was in the doorway. “What do you want, Draco?”
“Nothing,” he murmured, coming into the room. “You’re looking for Granger?”
“You could say that,” his father answered, watching him. “How well do you know the witch?”
“Better than some, worse than others. Why?” Draco replied, sitting down. “Pot head wants to find her? Hired you from what I heard.” He let out a hum. “I wonder what mother would make of that…”
Lucius stood up, snarling, “If one word of this gets to her or her solicitors’ ears…”
Holding up his hands in surrender, Draco declared, “I was only pulling your chain, father. She won’t hear a word of this from me.” He stood up, thinking over what to say to him. “You might wish to speak to Potter again. That’s not to say that he knows where she is, but more along the lines of I do believe you should care about what he isn’t telling you.”
Frowning Lucius muttered, “Why should that matter?”
“If her guardians are trying to keep her from being hurt and if the source of said harm is Potter and her supposed friends, what makes you think that you’ll get answers to where Granger is using his name?” He walked to the doorway. “It’s just a thought.”

I've always thought of Draco as more perceptive than he lets on. Tell me what you think! Thanks for reading and have a fab day!
