Bill jumped up when he heard Hermione scream. “Hermione!”
“What's wrong?” David asked Bill.
“I heard Hermione scream,” he said as he looked around.
Scabior came out of the tent he was in and looked around. “What's going on?”
“I didn't hear anything,” David said confused.
“I have really good hearing,” Bill said absently as he ran towards the sound of the scream.
Scabior and David followed him.
Bill sniffed the air. He picked up Hermione's scent and ran to the spot where she was taken. He saw her wand was on the ground and he started to shake with anger.
David and Scabior caught up to him. Bill showed Scabior Hermione's wand. “She's been taken. Who could have taken her?” he yelled and grabbed him by the collar and threw him up against a tree.
“I don't know!” Scabior yelled back. He was scared that something bad was going to happen to Hermione.
“There were four who kidnapped me and my team! What happened to the other three?” David asked angrily. He was very concerned for Hermione. He liked her a lot; she was kind and smart. It was no wonder these two men were constantly fighting over her.
“They left. We did the job and they left. The only reason I stayed was because I saw Hermione,” Scabior said defeated. He never wanted any harm to come to her.
“They had to take her back to the structure. We need to go now,” David said as he tried to pull Bill off Scabior.
“If anything happens to her, I am going to hunt you down,” Bill said darkly to Scabior.
The three took off to the structure. Bill followed Hermione's scent all the way through the forest.
*!*!*
Hermione was tossed to the ground by her assailants. They did take her down the structure, but not the way she and Bill had come earlier. She was taken in through a tunnel further away from the entrance. They quickly chained her hands to the wall so she couldn't escape.
“You are a pretty one,” one of them said to her.
Hermione almost gagged at the sight of him. It looked like he had been living in a jungle for years. Bad hair, bad teeth, very dirty, and he had very bad breath.
“Maybe we can have some fun later,” he smiled at her and ran a finger over her cheek
Hermione spit in his face. The other two men laughed at their friend. The man slapped Hermione hard in the face causing her lip to split open. He grabbed her roughly by the hair. “You better be nice to me, pretty one, or I will slit your throat right here,” he said as he slammed her head into the wall.
Hermione saw stars flash before her eyes, she willed herself to stay conscious. She needed to figure out what they were planning to do. She looked around, her vision was a little blurred but, she saw the box on a table, it appeared that they hadn't opened it yet.
All three men walked out of the room. Hermione groaned in pain, she felt vomit rise in her throat, but she pushed it back down. She tested the chains to see how much she could move her hands. She was sitting on the ground and was able to pull her arms a bit down, but only far enough to feel the back of her head, where a nasty bump was forming. She just hoped Bill heard her scream before she was carted off.
Bill got to the structure but Hermione's scent kept continuing into the forest. “This way,” Bill said.
“Why is he going that way?” David asked.
“Bill is a very good tracker. If he says we go this way, we go this way,” Scabior said as they raced to keep up with Bill.
Bill found the tunnels that Hermione had been taken though. “She's down this way.”
The three made their way to the tunnels. “I never came this way,” Scabior said, looking around.
“It appears that you were just a pawn in all of this Scabior. I hope you got paid in advance,” Bill said with sarcasm.
They entered a small open room with a path in front of them. “I guess we go this way,” Bill said.
Scabior pulled out his wand. He didn't want to be taken by surprise.
“What is that?” David asked, pointing to the wand. He has seen Bill pick up one from the ground where Hermione was taken.
Bill stopped for a second and looked at David and Scabior.
“We are going to need it. These people are dangerous,” Scabior said to Bill. Bill shook his head. He didn't care if he got in trouble with the Ministry. Hermione was more to him important than anything else.
“I don't have time to explain everything, but we are wizards and these are our wands,” Bill said as he pulled out his. “Stay behind us.”
David eyebrows furrowed in confusion for a moment. He would have asked more questions if Hermione didn't scream at that moment.
“Get off me!” she screamed as the bad breath kidnapper tried to force himself on her. With her hands chained, she only had her legs to use to defend herself.
“I was going to wait till after we sacrificed you, but I'd rather fuck you while you are still struggling.”
He pulled out a knife and held it up to her throat. Hermione stilled in fear. For the first time in her life, she felt completely helpless.
“That a good girl, pretty one.” He snaked a hand up her shirt, grabbed her breasts, and squeezed them roughly.
Hermione cried out in alarm as he forcefully pushed her to the ground. Her arms stretched painfully above her head, she heard a loud crack and felt the sharp pain of her shoulder separating from the joint. Her head smacked into the stone floor causing blinding pain. Her assailant tried to rip off her jeans. Hermione fought as hard as she could. “Stop it! Get off me.”
“You are turning me on even more, pretty one. I love when you struggle, it make this even more pleasurable for me.”
Hermione was able to take him by surprise and knee him in the balls, but it only infuriated the kidnapper more. He grabbed the knife again and cut her throat. Hermione stilled in fear. It wasn't a deep or a long cut, but Hermione could feel blood trickling down her neck.
“I'll fuck you dead if I need to,” he hissed as he pulled down her jeans and revealed her white lacy knickers. “Very pretty, but they just get in the way. He ripped them off and plunged his dirty finger into her. Hermione screamed in horror at what was happening to her.
“I do so like it dry, so much better for me,” the man said as he pulled down his dirty trousers. Hermione couldn't look anymore. She squeezed her eyes shut and waited for the invasion and pain, but it didn't happen. She heard him scream above her and suddenly he was no longer on top of her. She opened her eyes and saw her would be rapist being thrown back against the wall. She heard a loud crack when his head connected with the wall. She saw blood on the wall as his body slid down.
“You picked the wrong woman to violate,” Bill growled and slammed the head of Hermione's attacker into the wall. There was another sickening crack and the man lay motionless on the ground. Hermione groaned and looked away from the scene. Bill stood over the man.
Scabior worked on Hermione's chained hands as David helped to cover her back up. When Hermione's hands were free, Scabior and David helped her to her feet, but her legs were very uneasy and she fell back to the ground. Scabior caught her before she fell to the floor. He picked her up in his arms, and she cried out in pain when he touched her shoulder.
“Bill, we need to get her out of here!” Scabior yelled.
Bill didn't hear him; he was in some kind of trance. Bill had never let the wolf take over his body before, but seeing this man trying to rape Hermione caused something to snap inside of him. He didn't even remember throwing the man against the wall.
“Bill,” Hermione croaked out. Her throat was very sore from screaming, and there was still blood running down her neck.
Bill snapped out of his daze at Hermione's weak voice. David's eyes widened in fear. Bill looked like a completely different person. He almost looked like an animal.
“Hermione.” Bill face softened and he rushed over to her, grabbed her out of Scabior's arms, and held her close. She cried out in pain again. “We need to get out of here.”
“There are two more of them,” Hermione whispered. “I don't know what they are up to, but he was talking about a sacrifice.”
“What kind of sacrifice?” David asked, looking around for the other two men.
“Me,” Hermione whispered. “The box is it still on the table?” she said as she slipped into unconsciousness.
Scabior saw the box and quickly grabbed it and they raced out of the tunnel and back to camp.
*!*!*!
When they got back to camp Hermione was put into David's tent so Bill could tend to her wounds. Scabior kept watch just in case the other two men came back.
“Will she be okay?” David asked worried. He brought a bowl of cool water and a cloth to Bill for Hermione.
“She has a concussion, a dislocated shoulder, and her ribs are bruised again. She has some cuts and bruises, but she will heal,” Bill said absently as he waved his wand over her head to make sure that he healed the concussion before he repaired her shoulder and the cut on her neck. Healing her mental bruises, however, was up to Hermione.
David wet the cloth and handed it to Bill. “Here.”
“Thank you,” Bill said quietly as he dabbed the cloth over Hermione's forehead and held her hand.
David left the tent; he knew that Bill wanted to be alone with Hermione.
Bill kissed the inside of her hand and held it against his cheek. “I'm so sorry, Hermione. If you haven't been mad at me, you would have never stormed off and let your guard down. I don't know what would have happened if I lost you.” He moved a stray hair out of her eyes.
Hermione started to stir. She groaned as she tried to open her eyes. Her head hurt like hell and she was really sore. It took her a few moments to remember what had happened. She felt a cool cloth on her forehead. She slowly turned her head to Bill. She didn't say anything but tears formed in her eyes.
Bill shook his head and kissed her hand. “Shh, don't think about it.”
“I can still feel him on me,” Hermione whispered. “He was dirty, crude and vile.” She closed her eyes and shuttered, she could still see him and feel him. Tears rolled down her cheeks and she started to shake. “Please, make love to me. Make me forget about him. I can still feel him, I want him gone!”
Bill didn't know what to do. “I can't. Your body needs to heal.”
“Please.” Hermione burst into tears; she couldn't stay brave anymore. Everything that happened to her was too much to handle and she let her emotions take over.
“Shh, don't cry, Hermione.” Bill kissed her forehead and climbed into the cot with her.
“Please, I can't stop seeing him. I need you to erase his connection,” Hermione sobbed.
Bill carefully took off Hermione's clothes and covered her with a blanket. He quickly shed his clothes and climbed back in with her. He held her until she stopped crying. He couldn't stand to see his mate in this state. A very protective wave came over him. Bill caressed her body and kissed her gently. “Look into my eyes, Hermione. Only look at me, only think about me.”
He climbed on top of her and gently entered her. Hermione winced in pain at first, but soon the awful memory of what happened faded away, if only for a brief moment. She focused on Bill and only Bill. It would take a very long time to accept what had happened to her.
Bill paid special attention to every part of Hermione. Most of the time, when they made love it was a bit rough and a little kinky, but he had to take things slow with her this time around as to not send her into shock. Hermione unconsciously petted the wolf tattoo on his back. Bill licked and nuzzled her neck in response. Hermione wrapped her legs around his waist as she felt herself getting closer to the edge.
“I love you, Hermione,” Bill said as he brought her and himself over the edge.
“I love you too,” she gasped as she came down from her orgasm.
Bill rolled off her and gathered her in his arms, and kissed her on the forehead. “Get some rest,” he said to her as she drifted off to sleep.
Once he knew Hermione was asleep, Bill slipped out of bed. Her body needed to heal and he needed to try to figure out what was in that box.
When he stepped out of the tent, he found Scabior there holding the box. “You don't deserve her,” he whispered.
Bill looked at him and sighed, he'd forgot to set a silencing charm on the tent. “Were you listening?”
“You don't deserve her,” he said again.
“And you do?” Bill said darkly.
“No.”
“Finally, we agree on something,” Bill said as he grabbed the box out of Scabior's hand and started to examine it.
“Did you know when she was with me...”
“Do not talk about you and Hermione or I will rip your head off,” Bill spat out.
Scabior kept quiet. He was arrogant, but he wasn't stupid.
Bill moved towards the fire to get a better look at the box. “I know these symbols. I've seen them in Egypt.” Focusing on the task at hand.
David made his way over to Bill. “How's Hermione?”
“She's resting.”
“Yeah, Bill here gave her his special treatment,” Scabior said sarcastically.
Bill looked darkly at Scabior. He went back to the box. “This symbol means sacrifice, this one means guardian, but I have no idea what this means. Hermione might know.”
“That one is a symbol for the 'Old One',” David said.
Bill looked at David. “How do you know?”
“It is ancient Mayan, very ancient,” David said.
“The Old One?” Scabior said.
“A God,” Bill said. “This box has something in it to help summon a God. That's why they needed a sacrifice. In order to summon an ancient being, you need three things. A piece of the God, either a part of their body, or a personal belonging. They also need a sacrifice, more specifically freshly split blood,” Bill said angrily. He thought about them sacrificing Hermione, and his blood began to boil again.
“What is the third thing that they need?” David asked.
“A vessel for the God to inhabit,” Bill said.
“Do you mean that they planned on kidnapping someone else?” David asked.
“No, one of them would have been the vessel. A complicated ritual needs to be performed in order for someone to be worthy to be the vessel of a God. It's not a quick ritual; it takes years of dedication.”
“We need to destroy that box,” David said.
“It's not that simple. This box is forged with very old and powerful magic. It won't be easy to open, let alone destroy,” Bill said, turning the box over and looking at the symbols more closely. There was something familiar about one of the symbols.
“How would they have opened it?” Scabior asked.
“The only way to open it is to perform the sacrificial ritual,” Bill said, “There must be another task I am forgetting. It won't open with the blood of the sacrifice that is for the God.”
“It needs the blood of a dragon to open,” said a soft voice behind them.
“Hermione, what are you doing up? You need to rest,” Bill said softly.
“Bill, I never was good at being the damsel in distress,” Hermione said.
“How are you feeling, Hermione?” David asked.
Hermione just shook her head no. She took the box out of Bill's hand. “I don't know all the details, but I heard them talk about who was going to get the dragon's blood.”
“So that was a dragon I saw earlier,” David said in shock.
Hermione nodded her head. “Yes, I didn't get a good look, but I would say it was a Chinese Fireball.”
Bill shook his head. “Where's my brother when I need him?”
Hermione let out a half laugh. “We might need to contact him. There are no dragons in this area; I have no idea where it came from.”
“So dragons really do exist,” David said. “So does that make you a witch?” he asked Hermione.
Hermione nodded her head. “I know it's a lot to take in.”
“No, not really. There has been evidence throughout time, I just thought it didn't exist anymore,” David said.
“That's what we want everyone to think. Much easier that way. Secrecy is vital to our survival,” Hermione said firmly.
David nodded. “I understand. I couldn't imagine what would happen if normal people found out that magic was real. It would put your world at risk.”
“Why do you not seem more shocked?” Hermione asked David.
He smiled at her. “I've been studying history for years. I've seen ancient cities, and I've deciphered ancient codes. It takes a lot to surprise me.”
Hermione nodded in agreement. “I suppose there are a lot of people like you out there. I wish I ran into them more often.”
“Thank you,” David smiled at her. He could see why these two men were constantly fighting over her. She is a very lovely woman.
“So how do we destroy the box?” Scabior asked, getting back to the matter at hand.
Bill shook his head. “We can't. This box was designed to keep the item in there safe. The box is unbreakable. I should know, I used to work for the people that forged this box. The easiest thing to do is destroy the vessel.”
“Wait, the goblins forged this box?” Hermione asked.
“Yes, here is their mark,” Bill said as he tipped the box to the side, and showed Hermione the small symbol that looked like a pointed ear. “This box was stolen. There is no way the goblins would have had this box re-buried. It would be locked up in Gringotts. Someone stole it and buried it here. We need to take this box back to Gringotts.”
“Goblins? Wait the people who stole this box are wizards?” Hermione said.
Scabior hung his head in shame. “I stole the box from Gringotts.”
“What? When did you do it?” Hermione asked angrily.
“Right after the war. Someone contacted me, told me they would pay me handsomely if I could steal the box from the goblins. It took me two months and the help of a questionable person to accomplish the task,” Scabior explained. “I know one of the other men who is here now. His name is Barry. He was, I guess you can call him a friend, that I met after the war, but he never let on he was a wizard. I never used magic in front of him, any of them. They took me to the structure and showed me how to get in by moving a brick.”
Hermione shook her head at Scabior. “I can't believe you. This is all your fault.”
“We can't worry about that now,” Bill said, although he wanted to kill Scabior. “But what I do want to know is who built the structure?”
“I want to know why the box was buried instead of taking it to the structure. It would have made things a lot easier,” Scabior said. “I have no idea what happened to it after I handed it over to the person who hired me. I never even thought about it until my friend contacted me and asked me to meet him here. I had no idea the box was involved.”
“Now you do,” Hermione said. She was angry with Scabior, but this was who he was. He didn't care about anyone but himself, not even her. She thought for a moment. She was trying to make sense out of everything that they had learned. “What if who-ever stole the box had to rebury it because the structure wasn't built yet? The box was stolen around three years ago.”
“If the structure wasn't built yet, then it can't be that old,” David said.
Hermione sighed. “The structure appeared to be old.”
“We can speculate all night on this,” Bill said. “This is what we know. The goblins, sometime in the past, forged this box to contain part of a God. Scabior stole the box from Gringotts, and it was buried here by someone else. We know that at least one of the symbols is ancient Mayan for God, so the God is a Mayan God. The people who stole this box from David were going to use it to summon the God. It doesn't matter who built it or how old the structure is, it's irrelevant at this point.”
Hermione shook her head as something dawned on her. “I don't think it is irrelevant. We know that some of the symbols on the wall of the structure are magical and Mayan. When we entered the cavern at the bottom of the bridge, there's a stone slab and two pillars on each side. I think it's an altar. I'm wondering if the structure is the God's temple. I think it wasn't uncovered until recently, that is why the box was buried here instead of keeping it in the temple. I bet if we went back down there and studied the symbols on the wall we would find similar ones on the box.”
“You're a smart one,” a voice said, coming from in front of them.
All four of them jerked their heads up at the voice.
“We should have sacrificed you when we had the chance, pretty one.”
