-How could we have missed this?- muttered Penny’s voice from her own bedroom which was thankfully empty.
Penny had already had a long rant about how she had been forced to kick out her roommates the last time she had tried to have a Silent conversation because she hadn’t wanted to have to go through all the nonsense of –pretending- that she was doing something. Hadn’t really even tried to hide the fact that she was going to have a Silent Conversation, either.
And as there were only two other Ravenclaw Young Ones within her House (much younger than her and therefore wouldn’t be inclined to disturb her), it was perfectly reasonable that she might choose odd moments to –talk- to other Resistance Members. It could be a drag to try and gather all Allies together when there was a wish to have a conversation.
-Because no one tells us anything- snapped Oli –The Elders know that the more they keep from us, the more danger it causes for everyone around us. And yet they still do it! What the fuck possessed them this time!-
-We’ve already proven that there is very little we can do to pull all the information out of them!- said Anto –Even with the ones who they do regard as Elders are kept out of the loop if the Elders think it is for the best-
-Doesn’t mean we can’t use what works- said Oli.
His growl resonated through Amy’s head, and undoubtedly the entire Seventh Year Gryffindor Bedroom as well.
Thankfully all the other Gryffindor Young Ones were milling about in The Great Hall, after being ordered by the Elders to actually get some homework done. The fact that Hermione Grange tried to infer that it could be done in the Gryffindor Common Room had not been believed by McGonegall and so all of the Younger Pups had dragged down their bags to The Great Hall to do it under the watchful eye of McGonegall and Sprout.
And it was highly doubtful that they would be done anytime soon, as Hermione Granger would immediately try to help the other Younger Ones once she had finished.
-Oli- hissed Amy –Don’t even think about ambushing any of the Elders to drag it out of them that way! I am not having any angry Elders, banging down my door because you have gotten the bright idea that it would work!-
Oli snorted.
-Like you’ve just said- he replied –It won’t work against any of the Professor Elders-
-Oli!- thundered Anto –Don’t even think of that!-
-Oli?- said Penny –What are you thinking?-
The slightest of pauses and then…
-We go for one of The Marauders- he said.
-What?- roared Amy, Cedric and Penny.
No.
Merlin, no.
Oli couldn’t possibly do that.
How in Merlin’s name did he expect-?
-Between myself, Penny and Anto we should be able to get more out of them- said Oli.
-Exactly how?- sniped Penny –You could hardly call me in any way close to The Marauders-
-But you are close to The Weasley Family- said Oli.
-And?- said Penny.
-And we can use that- said Oli –You are very close to the Young Ones and their well-being is very close to your heart-
Penny snorted.
-You expect me to somehow use that in order to get any Members of The Marauders to trust me enough with the information they are, on purpose, hiding from these Young Ones?- she demanded.
-They will understand if you inquire- said Oli –so if you were to go up to a Marauder, then they would be more inclined to speak to you-
Penny sighed.
-If you are going by that logic- she said –then you are guessing that you would be given the same kind of welcome?-
-Yes- said Oli.
-So exactly where do I feature into this, then?- cut in Anto’s voice –I am hardly known for my –closeness- towards my brothers, sisters and their friends-
-The Elders haven’t had you ruin your reputation enough for them to think that you don’t –care- at all about them- said Oli –You may have supposedly lost most of your loyalty to your family, to their Allies and our Kind as a whole, but if you thought they were in trouble…-
A pause.
-I think…- said Anto –Honestly, I don’t think that’s true anymore Oli-
-Yes it is- said Oli –Your family haven’t reached a point where you would be that heartless-
-You see how my younger siblings treat me, Oli- said Anto –and I hardly think I am seen in a better light among the Elders. They were there when I got into my last –argument- with Molly and Arthur-
-The Elders forced you to have such a public discussion!- roared Oli.
-Yes?- said Anto –And? It doesn’t change the fact of what the other Elders witnessed. They honestly believe…-
She could hear the tears in his voice.
The helplessness that Anto felt over how many ties he had had to cut over the years in order to be able to play out the part that had been decided upon by the Elders. It had been further drawn out than Amy’s had. He had only truly got into the public –fights- over the last two years, where Amy had had to…twist that knife only a couple of times before she was completely free.
And everyone had forgotten so easily about her.
She needed to interfere.
She needed to make sure that the system of comfort, of –always being there-, constantly surrounded Anto and was known by him. Something that he couldn’t argue about.
Or believe otherwise.
-That still leaves a bit more to be explained and explored until there is a chance that it might make sense- interrupted Amy, as she sent what warmth she could through Silence to shroud around Anto.
-Exactly what do you want to be further understood?- said Oli.
-Which Marauder will you be approaching?- said Amy –other than Remus-
-What?- said Oli –Why in Merlin’s name can’t I go to Remus? He’s the most accessible out of all The Marauders at the moment-
Amy took a deep breath.
He clearly remembered what was coming up for her (he’d already raided the Hogwarts Kitchens three times to make sure that there were enough snacks filling her that she could barely move) but completely forgot…
-The Full Moon- said Amy –And you are not aggravating him over the next three weeks-
One week and a half until the Full Moon.
Three days of it.
And then over a week of recovery time. Even though Remus had nearly all of his Pack around him to –help- his recovery, it still took him some time.
-Ah- said Oli –Yes-
Amy paused.
-Then who will you be approaching?- she said.
For the Full Moons, Remus Lupin always travelled back to The Marauder home. So that he could have the entire Pack (as it was now) around him to give him the support he needed and to give him a large wood to run in. Other than two days before the Full Moon, when at least two Marauder Pack Members would arrive at Hogwarts to escort Remus Lupin home…
And Hell would have no fury as Amy if Oli dared to try and talk to the two Marauders at that point. Nothing should be allowed to prevent The Marauders giving Remus Lupin the full attention he deserved.
-One of them will be visiting Hogwarts before it goes anywhere close to The Full Moon- said Oli –They don’t like leaving him alone so-
-Only that has been stopped- cut in Amy, her mind flickering back to the scene of the argument between Remus Lupin and James Potter during the storm. It had been brutal, to watch the fight, but it had ended with the decision…
Lessen the amount of times any of his Pack was in the United Kingdom.
-What?- said Oli –but I thought that in the end James argued-?-
-It doesn’t matter what was overheard by me- said Amy –in the end, Remus would have gotten his way. He would have enforced an order that the visits to see him dropped so that the New Idiot and his Lapdogs weren’t given the opportunity to arrest any of them-
James Potter might have won that little argument then. But he wouldn’t have successfully kept it that way. Remus Lupin would have gathered what he needed, what he needed to fight, and set up a talk with the Members of The Marauder Pack and…made it so that it was agreed that it was for the best.
-But- said Oli.
-Remus understands how dangerous it is- interrupted Amy –just like I do. There is no possibility of being able to set up an Apparition Point from The Haven to Hogwarts that leaves the Apparater close enough to the Barriers of the Hogwarts Grounds to avoid being detected by the New Idiot and his Lapdogs or at least get within the safety of Hogwarts quick enough. The Elders have tried before, but the spells weaved into the Shields by the Founding Witches and Wizards are beyond any kind of such manipulation to allow it. Remus can’t chance it-
And wasn’t that the hard, cold truth?
It would never be considered the brightest decision to have the remaining Wolf of The Marauders staying at Hogwarts. The entire Grounds were protected, still Declared as a Base for the Hogwarts Resistance, but that didn’t mean that there weren’t those little instances. The times when the New Idiot and his Ministry took a small matter concerning the Others who were students there were still frequent enough to cause headaches for the Elders. And with Remus there…
The New Idiot and his Lapdogs would be unable to pass up such an opportunity.
Yet, Amy could understand why. The Young Ones spent nine months of the year at Hogwarts, outside of the immediate support of their Elder Marauders, and so to be able to have one of The Marauders in Hogwarts during that time (just in case and with a very good reason to as the previous years had already proved)… It was something that could not be seized upon.
And yet, who else could they send? Each one of The Marauders had a reason for why they shouldn’t be separated from the rest.
Lily Evans (a Female): and therefore could not be accompanied for such a long time without the Males (stupid rule but insisted upon).
Alice Longbottom (Female): same criteria.
Frank Longbottom (Male): would not be able to leave his Mate (Alice) for so long but also had no interest in teaching Defence Against the Dark Arts to students (as he considered them annoying unless they knew the Truth) and therefore ruined any point of simply sending Alice with him.
Ryo McClean (Male): the only Submissive of the Pack and therefore easily fell into the same category as a Female of the Pack.
James Potter (Male): his temper legendary, along with his view point of Others. He had been one of the first Members of the Pack to swing to the side of With-holding the Hand.
Sirius Black (Male): ditto to the entire concerns of James Potter.
And therefore…it just left Remus Lupin.
Amy sighed.
It just wasn’t fucking fair.
-Crap- hissed through Oli’s voice, scattering Amy’s thoughts but not the pain she felt at having to come to the earlier realization –They’ve come back-
-Already?- said Penny –But even with the help of Hermione Granger they shouldn’t have been able to get all of their homework back-
-He forgot to add in the little nugget that they are all looking very guilty- said Anto –And that Fred and George have got green smudges across their faces-
-Green smudges?- said Cedric –What in Merlin’s name could they have done to get that kind of effect-
-Quiet Cedric- said Anto –I don’t want to know-
-Judging by the ways they are looking at me- said Oli –I’m guessing that I’m supposed to find out. You might want to leave the room-
A loud snort from Anto.
-How about you take them elsewhere and find out there- said Anto –I’m not moving from my comfortable spot just because they want to brag about their latest bout of stupidness-
Oli sighed.
-Anto- he said softly.
-No- interrupted Anto –I’ve had enough. I just grinned and beared it when they turned me purple with the vampire fangs, elven ears and made my entire skin pock ridden-
-Anto- said Oli –You are not the Public Persona the Elders have forced you into. You don’t need to erupt at-
-At what?- said Anto –I shouldn’t erupt because I am having to endure their insults again? Is that what you are saying?-
-Of course not!- said Oli.
-Then why should I have to move?- said Anto.
A pause.
The entire situation completely out of control because Anto… Amy could understand what Oli had tried to do. He had tried to make sure that there was distance between Anto and the rest of the Young Ones in order to ensure that Anto didn’t have to react with his Public Persona for what he heard. He’d just…
Oli had just said it wrong.
Made it all too easy for Anto to misunderstand him.
And now here was the fight that would rip them apart until they had calmed down… Not that this meant that the two would forgive each other. There would have to be careful negotiation before the two would even think of reaching the point where they could –try- to talk about it.
Amy sighed.
Just a whole lot of shit that they all dealt with because…
They didn’t have the structure of comfort and protection they used to have. There was only one Alpha, just a Female Alpha, to watch over everything and what made it worse…
According to the ones that did still remember her place within the Weasley Kata (and knew for a fact that she would never leave the Group and therefore smelt a rat over her sudden change to being Dark), she was only Second in Command. Bill was supposed to…
-I’m gone!- screeched in the voice of Anto and Amy didn’t have to be present to know that the door to the Seventh Year Gryffindor bedroom had just been slammed as Anto had stomped out.
Shit.
