A/N Hi everyone. I forgot to put an author's note on this chapter and there are a couple of important things i need to say. Firstly, apologies once again for the gender problems with Maya. I am thinking of just making him a cross dresser and be done with it! For the record Maya is a male sub, any female pronouns used to describe Maya are errors on my part. I seem to have a female image in my head for Maya and i can't seem to shift it. If i could write it again i would make him female but what's done is done. Anyone who spots an error please give me the chapter number and paragraph and i will spot it, correct it and slap myself on the hand. Also in response to this chapter i had a review from Skye who said there was something about my writing that was making her twitchy in this story. Now i assume that she doesn't have the same problem with 'Punishment' so it is not my general writing style (which is an acquired taste) that is the problem. I myself have a similar 'twitchy' feeling about this story. I think mine is due to the fact that i am attempting to write this story as if no one knows any back story, which of course we all do. I am not sure whether i am pulling it off or whether i even should be. Please let me know what you think of the style and if there are any improvements I can make. Also anyone interested in betaing please let me know.
The fire was banked as small as possible but warming the tent nicely. Putting a hearth in one of these small tents was a fire risk but needs must. It was working though, Lupin had already began to stir as his body warmed. Maya had asked Ram to bring in some food when he had built the fire so there was nothing to do now but wait. Fenir remained standing, looking over the man he had hoped to call son.
He had only been fourteen when his father had been killed by attacking Aurors. He had protected his pack and got them to safety, only to be hit in the back by a stray slicing curse, fired behind the retreating Aurors. He had only been in the hunt for three years and he was expected to lead the pack through a war. The other elder doms had been reluctant for him to take over but his uncle, his father's beta and the only other wolf who could've taken over, was adamant. Fenir was born Alpha and was the only Alpha the pack had. He was Rampier's son and it was his right. So it was done, for better or worse, no matter how terrified he was, he was Alpha. Fenir gave himself a small smile as he thought of his uncle. Balth had been a good friend to him until, only six months later, he had been killed when his hunting party had been set upon. The loneliness Fenir had felt when he had first heard that he was now alone in the world, the last Greyback.
He threw himself in to his duties as Alpha, promising himself that no more of his pack would fall to the Aurors. His pack became his new family but still there was part of him that longed for the love, the closeness that could only come from blood and it wasn't until he chanced upon a ramshackle cottage in the middle of the forest they had just moved to. He was wary at first, a human house in a forest could not be good, but it was so run down it could be abandoned. Everything around it, the forest, the house itself, stank of death and decay. He had entered through a door half hanging from its hinges, crouched low to the ground, scenting the air constantly but there was only the scent of death. He straightened up and began searching the house for anything useful before suddenly unearthing a small dirty child who was hiding under an up turned chair. The child was scared and tried to scrabble away from him only to find the Alpha's strong arms encircling him.
"Hey, hey, where do you think you're going?" The child Brian to thrash around. "Calm down, you little scrap, I'm not going to hurt you." The child stilled slightly in his arms so he relaxed his grip. The child was off like a buck, sprinting down the hallway, leaving a rather stunned and amused Alpha sitting on the floor. It took about half an hour of searching to find the child, hiding in a coal hole in the cellar, and another half an hour to coax him out with the promise of food. The child was even dirtier when he emerged, grabbing the food which Fenir held out to him and quickly scoffing it down. Fenir let him finish before grabbing him again to prevent him from bolting again.
"Right then, boy," he said, still holding the child still, even though he had once again gone limb. "playtime is over. Where are your parents?" there was no answer. "You know, the adult who look after you." He outstretched his hand and pointed at the small courtyard garden at the front of the house. Fenir turned to look at where he was pointing. He picked up the scrawny child and stalked slowly to the front of house, keeping close to the walls, just encase he had to run for it. The stench of death assaulted his nose again as he left the house and entered the empty courtyard. "Well? Where are they boy?" the child was obviously trying something again. The boy took his arm from around Fenir's neck and pointed towards a small gladed area at the side of the house. Fenir moved over cautiously. The smell began to get stronger and flies engulfed the area. Fenir placed his arm over his nose and carried on moving. There were two patches of disturbed dirt, one with a makeshift cross at one end. Fenir instantly saw the cause of the smell. The other patch of dirt contained the barely covered body of a woman, her face grotesquely bloated, half covered in dirt.
"Mummy" the small boy said, rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand. Fenir turned away and walked quickly away from the gruesome scene. He couldn't leave the boy here with the dead but he had no idea what else to do, he couldn't take him back to the pack. Once Fenir got back to the house he placed the boy back onto the ground and crouched down to his height.
"Do you have anywhere else to go? Other family?" The boy shook his head. Fenir thought for a moment. This little boy was alone in the world, like him, except he didn't even have a pack. This child needed him, from the look of the house no one from the human world, muggle or wizard, would miss him and if they did they would probably think he had died. He could be the boy's new family, they could be each others. Fenir face brightened and he gave the small boy a smile. "Well then, you will come home with me to my pack. Is there anything you want to take with you from the house?" The boy shook his head. "Do you want to tell me your name?" the boy shook his head again. "Why not?"
"Mummy told me not to speak to strangers."
"That is good advice. My name is Fenir Greyback and I am going to look after you now." The small boy looked at the face of the man in front of him, sizing him up. Suddenly he stood up straight and shot his hand outwards, his palm straight.
"My name is Remus Lupin." Fenir chuckled slightly to himself and took the boy's hand to shake it. "We aren't strangers now, are we Mr Greyback?"
"No, child, not strangers anymore. None of that mister stuff though. My proper title is Alpha but you can call me Fenir."
"Ok, Fenir. Can we go home now?" Fenir reached down and picked the boy up, who instantly clasped his arms around the large wolf's neck.
"Yes, little one, we will go home now." He started back towards the makeshift campsite where he had left the rest of the pack. If this small family had managed to remain hidden then this forest should be okay for a while.
Fenir smiled to himself at the memory. He needn't have worried about the rest of the pack reaction to Remmy. Elouise had taken him under her wing almost as soon as she had seen the little soot covered boy and the rest had fallen into line easily, possibly seeing that Fenir needed the boy as much as the boy needed him. He had very rarely talked about his birth parents, seeming to want to bury the memory as he had tried to bury his mother, and unfortunately he had been just as successful. The pack would often be woken to the sounds of crying in the night, begging his mummy to wake up, Fenir would hold him, rocking him backwards and forwards until he gently fell asleep. They grew so close, but it wasn't to last as only eight moons later they were attacked again. Many were killed and little Remus was taken from him, to be sent to the reform schools, to become one of their most dangerous enemies.
A long drawn out groan came up from the bed, rousing Fenir from his thoughts. Lupin was slowly coming round.
"I wouldn't move your head you have been unconscious for some time." There was another groan.
"Where…" The voice was husky and crackly. Fenir leant down and grabbed up a cup of water to hold to the man's lips. He drank gratefully, taking most of his energy to lift up his head.
"You are with the Greyback Pack." Lupin dopped his head back down to the bed and smiled.
"We made it." There was a satisfaction in his voice. Suddenly his head shot up, "Harry?!" his heavy head plummeted back down to the bed.
"I would suggest you not do that you are weak. The boy is in bad shape, our healer is tending to him as best he can."
"Please, please save him. He has to be okay."
"We will do all we can." Lupin's breathing began to slow down again.
"Thank you, my Alpha." He drifted back to sleep. Fenir remained standing, watching over him with an eagle eye

Maya washed out yet another rag. He had managed to remove most of the dirt from the boy as well as destroying the sodden rags he had been wearing. The warmth of the tent was starting to bring back some colour to his cheeks. He had already had two potions, one for his fever and another to help his dehydration. They would have to let him wake properly before they could get proper fluids and food into him. Maya could barely contain his anger whilst he removed the mud which had caked the child's body. He was ridiculously thin, more than could just come from going without food for a few months, his body was stunted, he should be around sixteen but instead he looked more like a twelve year old human. Then there were the scars, with each swipe of the cloth new ones were revealed. In addition to the famous one which stood out red an angry on his almost grey forehead he also had a myriad of long scars in different states of healing down his back, some had been there for years, made up of puckered flesh, others were probably still fresh when they had started their journey and were now infected. Maya had wrapped them with an ointment that should drain the worst of the infection out but it would set back his recovery. There were other scars, older ones, words carved into his skin that had stretched as he grew, the word 'Freak' was emblazoned across his inner thigh accompanying the word 'Monster' on the other. Although these were fully healed Maya wrapped them in a poultice which would hopefully help them to fade away.
Once Maya had got him clean and comfortable he got up to retrieve Fenir and to check on Lupin. Blue was still standing watch outside their hut when he emerged.
"Where's Pelim?" he asked, wrapping a fur closer around his body. The sun was a long time away from rising and the temperature had dropped significantly.
"I left him with Elouise. How is he?" Blue motioned towards the hut with his head. "There are loads of rumors going around…"
"Sorry, I can't say anything at the moment." Blue chuckled a little.
"Thought you'd say that. Fenir, Ram and you look like the only ones who know what is going on."
"That's where I'm going now. Fenir needs to know how he is. He should be comfortable so there is no need to go in but if you hear the slightest sound come and get me okay?"
"You sure I can't go in? It is freezing out here!"
"Suck it up, oh strong and mighty Dom! You'll be fine but if you are that cold I'll let Nero know and he can bring you another fur." Blue huffed a little under his breath and leaned against the hut which made Maya laugh as he walked towards the tent. Dom's were idiots some times, never wanting to show each other the merest hint that they might have any kind of weakness. There were still a few Dom's awake around the slowly dying fire in the centre of the village, Evan and what looked like Claw and Bej. He would have to moan at Evan for being out in such cold, he was getting on in years, but that would have to wait until he had spoken to Fenir about the child. No matter how much he tried he couldn't think of that small boy as Harry Potter. The child in his hut was malnourished, abused and unloved, far from the warrior general who had killed and stalked them in the night.
He walked past Ram and Nero, who were still on guard wrapped in furs, and into the tent. Fenir was still standing in the same place he had left him several hours earlier, his arms crossed, his face low with the expression of someone in deep thought.
"Fenir?" he said apprehensively, not wanting to disturb him.
"Yes, Maya?" Fenir's eyes didn't move away from the man on the bed.
"Has he woken?"
"For a few moments about an hour ago. I got him to drink some water, he asked where he was and then asked about the boy before he fell asleep. It seems they were heading here after all. He seemed very happy to have made it."
"How are you doing, seeing him again?" Maya edged around the room to stand close to the Alpha. She knew the story, knew how close the two of them had been . It had broken Fenir's heart when he had been taken and when he first saw him on the battlefield it had broken all over again.
"I'm fine, just stuck in memories. We lost so many back then, it is...difficult to think of them." Maya nodded. He hadn't been part of this pack back then. His own pack had been further north when they had been decimated by a well timed attack. He had been gathering herbs with Blue when it had happened. Maya felt his heart wrench and he turned away to hide the tears which welled up in his eyes. He had left his daughter with the Alpha's mate. He had found her small body in one of the huts with the other children.
"Yes," he sniffed, wiping away the tears with the back of his hand. "difficult. I…" he composed himself. "I need you to come and look at the boy." Fenir finally looked away from the bed and up at Maya.
"Why?"
"He is… different. I think there is more here than we know." Fenir scoffed.
"Considering that two of our enemies decided to travel in this winter with no supplies to seek us out I think there is a lot here we don't know." Maya nodded, looking down at the sleeping wolf on the bed. They exited the tent, Fenir pausing quickly to send Ram in with strict orders to come and get him if he awoke, before moving back across the village towards the healer's hut.
Blue was still outside, shivering slightly in the cold. He straightened up quickly when he saw Fenir, which cause Maya to giggle slightly as they went into the hut. Fenir stood by the entrance as Maya checked the boy over. He was lying on his front, covered from neck to feet in several layers of fur, and was still sleeping soundly.
"So what is is that I need to see?" Fenir asked, not wanting to move closer into the hut.
"This." Maya said, uncovering the small, rakish, body. Fenir moved closer and looked down at the scars which littered the small boy's back and legs. A smell hit Fenir's nose, above the usual medicinal scent which hung to the hut. It was sweet and powerful, but at the same time delightfully submissive and light. He hungered for it. He knelt down beside the healer, eager to be closer to that delicious aroma.
"Fenir?" Maya asked, confused at the normally stoic Alpha's reaction. Fenir leant forward, pressing his cheek against Harry's neck, inhaling the scent deeply. "Fenir!" Maya shouted, pulling the Alpha backwards. Fenir turned back to him, his teeth bared, a loud deep rumble of warning directed at the small healer. "Fenir, what are you doing? Harry is sick!" Fenir withdrew the arm he had thrown over the small sub.
"I…" he looked down at his hands, his mind slowly becoming clearer as he forced himself from the alluring boy on the bed. He backed away from the bed, climbing to his feet.
"What the hell was that!?" Fenir couldn't drag his eyes away from the bed, even as moved his body.
"I…I…Lupin needs to wake up now." he paused for a moment trying the regain composure. "No unmated Dom is to go anywhere near him, even the mated ones if possible. I will get to the bottom of this!" Fenir stormed out of the hut, leaving a confused healer kneeling beside his charge.
