A/N: Here is the next chapter, hope you enjoy it. I know one of the warnings is that this will eventually become a dark fic but there will be some time before it gets to that point due to the fact that I want to develop the new relationships, etc.... Also, as stated by this chapter I'm trying to keep the characters similar to what they originally were, although they were raised by another family. I know I can't make Luna into believing things that others don't since she wasn't raised by Lovegood. As far as them hating muggleborns, I want to keep Luna as a very open-minded sort. However, I am making Ginny a tad self-centered. Being the youngest daughter and doted on by three sisters she would be a little spoiled. So, she'd be more concerned about herself than worrying over blood affairs.

Chapter Two
"He is so damn annoying." Ginny slammed the compartment door knowing that it would cause a commotion. The few students that had already boarded the train had to hear it slam closed in anger. She didn’t care, let them hear. She hoped bloody Lucius Malfoy heard and knew how badly she wished his over-inflated head had been caught in the process. Thankfully, her sister had stepped in preventing the need to stun the git. "You need to reinforce that you aren’t five anymore."
"Why?" Luna sighed at the temper tantrum, she was used to them. By now she found them endearing and made her love her friend even more. Especially when the anger was on her behalf. Lucius insisting had been getting on her nerves as well. There was no reason for her to sit near him during the train ride. It wasn’t like she was going to be kidnaped on the ride to Hogwarts. She had told him last night that she had every intention of riding with Ginny. It was their first trip, they would share it with each other. He didn’t seem to understand that she did not need her big brother there to protect and hound her. How would she ever learn to do things on her own if he was always there to hold her hand? "It won’t do much good. The last time we had that argument I went far enough to inform him that I’m no longer a child since I bleed. That did get him off of my back for about a week."
Plopping down onto the cushioned seat, Ginny got comfortable for their first trip to school. It was really exciting. She wanted this trip to be special, not ruined by overbearing siblings that took their Prefects duties too far. "It’s a shame we arrived before most of the others but I did want to get this compartment. However, I did notice one cute boy. He was standing with an elderly couple. Did you notice him?"
"The one with the glasses?" Of course she noticed him. Luna giggled as her friend nodded vigorously. She’d been staring up until Lucius had grabbed her shoulder to inform her that staring was impolite. He had scoffed when she informed him to stop mocking their father. It was only staring if she was constantly looking at the person, which she hadn’t been. While noting that at least one of the first years was extremely cute her eyes had been searching out another brunette, one with curls. Unfortunately, she had been forced to board the train before she’d been able to find Sirius in the crowd. "I wonder who he was."
"Don’t know but I’ll find out." The ginger had seen two other boys that hadn’t been bad on the eye since she had been lucky enough to board the train without the assistance of being shoved inside. However, she had a feeling that the dirty blonde wasn’t a pureblood. His parents had been with him and they weren’t wearing what she’d note to be tailor-made. If she didn’t know better she’d say the boy had been wearing muggle clothing. Not that she cared, she wasn’t going to marry him. Simply noting that he was cute wasn’t against the rules. The other had been a older boy that had spoken to Lucius, another Slytherin. "Did you remember to pack your broom?"
"I did but I doubt we’ll be able to join the team this year. I know we won’t. My brother is on the team and as their star seeker he isn’t going to agree to us playing with him. He’s too scared that I might sneeze and accidently break the wind around my broom then proceed to fall to certain death. That or on top of a Gryffindor." The latter being the worse outcome as far as Lucius was concerned.
"If the Gryffindor is a hot one, who cares?" Ginny crossed her legs to look out of the window. Her nose crinkled as she managed to snag a quick look at her aunt. Figures, trailing right behind was that obnoxious boogey-breathed Sirius. She had forgotten that he was starting also. As long as he kept out of her way. "We’ll just wait until our third year. Your brother will be gone so we’ll be able to do anything we want. Let’s just hope that the hat puts us both in the same house. I’m sure we’ll both get Slytherin. Are we moving?"
"Hm, I think we are, finally. My bum is already going to sleep." As much as she longed to walk around the train she knew who would be patrolling it. The last thing she wanted was another run in with her brother before arriving. As much as she loved him, he could be a little overbearing at times. He had already informed her to make sure she made it into Slytherin so he could keep an eye out on her. She was almost tempted to plead with the hat if it would listen to put her into Hufflepuff so she’d be disgraced and left alone. Knowing it was going to be some time before they arrived she reached into her robe to withdraw the book she’d stashed. Seeing as Ginny was already going at her hair with a brush, "I think we are about to be joined."
Ginny stopped mid-stroke hearing the voices. As Luna flipped open the book the door slid open to reveal a boy and a girl. The boy had dark wavy hair that was cut just above the ears. Facially she’d say he was alright. Not someone she’d date but he wouldn’t be classified as a Goyle either. His nose was a little crooked and large but his eyes were unique. Eyes that turned to see that he was invading their compartment. Dark, piercing eyes stopped on her as the redheaded girl looked pass his shoulder to ask if it’d be okay if they joined them. "Suit yourself."
"Thank you, come sit, Severus." Lily tugged on the sleeve of his robe to reassure him that everything would be alright. There were only two of them in here, so it’d be a nice place to sit. Seeing as the two girls were already seated across from each other she went to take a seat next to the blonde that was currently reading. Having no other choice her friend took a seat across from her next to the other redhead. The beginning of the trip hadn’t turned out well so far. She could tell that Severus was still upset over what had occurred.
Ginny almost snapped when the boy sat down hard enough on the seat to make her pop into the air an inch. What was his problem? Was he angry that they had been occupying the compartment beforehand? Tough shite, they had gotten their first. As if to prove to the world that he was indeed pissing the boy crossed his arms and leaned back to glare at his unknown thoughts. "May I ask if it’s our presence that you find so disagreeable or did someone piss in your knickers?"
"He means no offense." Lily spoke up before an argument could break out. "The first compartment we went to wasn’t very agreeable. We got into a slight argument with the four inside and they were rather rude to Severus here. It was very silly and they made some presumptuous accusations." After all, she knew that Severus was nothing like the wizards they said all went into Slytherin. He was her best friend and he was a good person.
"Did someone fart?" Luna casually asked without taking her eyes away from the page she was reading. The first thing that came to mind when boys made silly accusations, that’s what blinked in bright red lights. Whenever it came to a silent but smelly one, it was all about passing the blame. It was okay to boast when you ripped one loud enough to wake a giant but only girls eased them out.
"No, they were just being arses." Severus turned to get a good look at the blonde with her nose buried in a book. He wouldn’t be rude to them since they had allowed them to sit without causing a fuss. He knew Lily was ready to relax and enjoy the ride. "One in particular got offensive when I commented that I wished to be in Slytherin."
"What’s wrong with that? Luna and I both want to be in Slytherin." Ginny asked before tucking her brush away for safekeeping. As long as she didn’t get sorted into Hufflepuff. Her family would be disappointed but they’d get over it. Ever since the eldest daughter hadn’t denied dating that Tonks no one really paid much attention to what she was doing. Bellatrix was having a field day with the fact that Andy would actually lower herself to speak to a Mudblood. Honestly, Ginny didn’t care who her sister married. If it came between being disowned by her family in order to marry some hot man or marrying something like that Lestrange pig; give her disownment. Which was why she prayed she’d be able to find someone that she could love that her family would be okay with.
"Nothing!" Lily made sure to give her opinion. She wanted Severus to get into whatever house would make him happy. It didn’t matter to her if they went into separate houses, they’d always be best friends. He was the only person that truly understood her. "This boy started telling him that only evil wizards went into Slytherin."
"My brother called me evil the last time I cast a frizzing hex on his hair right before he went on a date. Lucius was furious because it lasted for two weeks." Luna didn’t think she was really evil, just defiant. He’d gone too far by insisting that she not be allowed to pick her own friends. He had finally backed off on his attempt to insert her into his own crowd. "But I think everyone has good and bad qualities. There is nothing wrong with knowing what you want. Whomever said that was obviously a narrow-minded git that is insecure in his own choices."
"I agree. If you want I can teach you a nice little hex that I’ve been experimenting with." Ginny leaned forward knowing she had just met a fellow Slytherin. It wouldn’t hurt to make new friends. For so long it had always been her and Luna. It would be nice to form their own group of companions. "I'm calling it Bat Boogey Hex, it goes like this."
Lily groaned hearing the details of the girl’s experiment but Severus seemed very interested in listening to how it worked. Instead she turned to speak to the other. Another lover of books. "I see you’re interested in dragons. What else do you like to read?"
"Anything," she finally looked up from the page. "I’ll read anything that is in front of my face. What I’m really fascinated with is magical creatures. I’ve already collected a great many volumes. When I graduate I want to work with them. If not dragons then some form of magical creature. My brother says there is supposed to be unicorns in the forest at the school. I’m trying to get Ginny to sneak in there with me so I can find one."
"I thought you have to be pure to get near one." Lily hadn’t read up on them yet. So far she’d only managed to read Hogwarts A History and the books needed for this year. What other kinds of creatures dwelled in this forest? Would it be safe? Why would the girl want to go into it?
"No, that’s only a silly muggle belief." She knew for sure that it wasn’t true. Luna had already read two accounts of them being studied by a married couple. What was it with muggles and virgins? She’d also read that they believed that dragons preferred to eat virginal women. Did they really think magical creatures gave a shite about some flimsy membrane?
"Do you have a problem with muggles?" Severus asked noticing how Lily had stiffened at the comment. He was a half-blood himself. Had they managed to sit with two pureblooded bigots? If so they would excuse themselves and find somewhere else to sit.
"No, I do not. Although, my family may disagree with that." Luna corrected his thinking. "I merely stated that it was a muggle belief because that is what it is. My calling it silly has everything to do with the fact that it is indeed silly. Being a virgin has nothing to do with whether or not a creature will allow a person to approach it. The only telltale sign of one being a virgin on a female is they still have their hymen. I seriously doubt a unicorn would allow a virgin wielding an axe to come close simply because she may or may not still have a sheer membrane intact. It is the person’s soul and demeanor that matters, to most animals."
"Also, let’s not forget to point out that unlike us girls, boys do not have a sign to indicate whether or not if they’ve been naughty. Wouldn’t it be fair if half their cocks got ripped off during the first time?" Ginny smirked noticing the blood rushing from Severus’ face. Indeed, it wasn’t fair that only girls experienced pain during their first time.
"Oh, so how about you? In case you haven’t figured it out, both my parents are muggles." Lily shifted the subject back to muggles and away from ripping membranes. She knew all about sex already since Petunia had a fat boyfriend that had groping hands. The two were always kissing, it was disturbing.
"What do I care? Not to be rude but I have no intentions on marrying you so I could care less what your parents are. You’re a witch or you wouldn’t be on this stuffy train." In truth Ginny didn’t care either way. It wasn’t like she had any plans to take either of the two home for dinner. Besides, she was sure her parents were more concerned about what her eldest sister was doing so who she conversed with while at school was the least of their worries. "Oh, I’m Ginny and that is Luna."
"What do they feed him?" Ginny whispered in Severus’ ear as they walked towards the boats. The man was huge! Being one of the lasts to get off of the train, the four were seated in the last two boats to depart. Night had already fallen leaving the lake looking extremely dark and foreboding.
"Unicorns," he responded as he climbed in behind her. The four of them were crowded but seeing as three hefty boys were filling the other he was glad he was in this one. Being the male he was taking up the rear. Lily had taken the front, leaving their two new friends in the middle. The saucy redhead was sitting in front of him commenting on the Oaf being half troll. Giant, maybe but not a troll. Then again had the man just picked his nose and wiped it off in his beard?
"Did you see that? How uncouth! Whatever is someone like that doing on school ground? Gods forbid if he went rushing about. All manner of creatures could get trampled under those gigantic feet; birds, rabbits, cats and small children." Ginny wanted to gag at the sight. Couldn’t he have waited until they were gone before doing something so gross?
"Lunas?" Lily added as the small transportation began to move. She giggled as the blonde poked her in the ribs. The boat was being pulled across the smooth surface by an unseen type of magic. In the distance she could already see the castle. This was the moment she’d been waiting for, along with Severus. They were finally here. From this point on she knew her life would never be the same.
"I hope we won’t have to wait long to eat." Luna felt the pinching of her stomach so she forwent shoving the muggleborn witch into the water. No need to risk detention on the first night there. If she did she’d never hear the end of it.
Ginny snorted at the proclamation. They were about to enter the school for the first time and all the blonde could think about was food. Not to mention they were on a boat ride across a stunning lake in the evening. "Luna dear, your mind is an odd thing. Try enjoying the view. We are taking a leisurely ride across the lake. It’s nice and calm, the moon is starting to show in the sky. This would make an spectacular first date. Don’t you agree, Severus?"
He would have laughed if her leaning back against him wouldn’t have caused him to blush. For dramatic effects she placed a hand over her forehead and stuck the other in the water to fiddle with the surface. "You do realize that there is a giant squid in this lake."
"No fucking way!" Her hand was snatched out so fast her elbow slammed into the edge. It stung so bad tears formed. Why had he told her that? Ginny didn’t want to curse when the others began laughing at her expense. That wasn’t funny. "Laugh it up."
Soon enough they were pulling up to some sort of docks and being shown to a staircase. Standing at the top was a stern looking woman in dark robes. Luna knew from what Lucius had told her to expect that they were being given the introduction speech before being sorted. Knowing this she didn’t pay much attention to what was being said. Her eyes scanned the many heads in front, searching for one in particular. So far she had yet to spot the missing Sirius Black. Where was he?
"This way and remember to be silent until your name is called." The large group began to make a path towards the double doors. There had to be over fifty first years. Luna groaned believing he had decided to skip the first day until she saw a rather tall boy move aside to see who stood in front. There was a noticeable dark curly hair in the front. It had to be Sirius and he was standing talking to the boy she’d seen at the station, the one with the glasses. Unfortunately, he seemed content to continue speaking and didn’t bother to look around.
There wasn’t much noise as they were made to stand in front of a single stool. Ginny watched as the first student was called. Abbott, Monique went directly to Hufflepuff. Two other kids went to Ravenclaw then she heard it, "Black, Ginerva." With shoulders held high she pushed her way through the throng of bodies to make it to the stool. Nice, she had to take a seat after those others had planted their arses on the piece of wood. Eww, it smelt of old leather and ripe milk.
"Hmm, a Black are we? Interesting, if I do say so. Very strong willed, I sense great power and the strive to get what you want. Also, some courage to do what you must. A wonderful mind, no doubt. Where to place you? Perhaps a house all your own? No? Let’s see, may as well be, SLYTHERIN!"
"Black, Sirius."
Luna watched as he sat down upon the seat and the hat was placed upon his head. If possible the poor thing looked even more confused with him than with Ginny. With a shout of ‘Gryffindor’, he got up and raced towards the far table. She wasn’t too shocked when Lily was another to head towards that table. However, Severus did frown when their friend took a seat next to the boy with glasses and shook his hand. Knowing he must be worried, she lightly touched his arm. For a while she was stuck with him while many others were placed amongst the houses. Her turn came right after he was placed with Ginny.
Walking up she took a seat and looked towards the Slytherin table. What would happen if she got placed in another house? She didn’t want to be in the same house as her brother but she did want to be with her friends. "Another that wants to be in Slytherin? Are you sure? You’d do great in Ravenclaw. Centuries since I’ve seen such a complex mind with the urge to learn. So be it! SLYTHERIN!"
Decision made she jumped up from the stool and chanced a glance towards the other table. For a second she wasn’t sure if the boy remembered her. Did he? Why was he frowning? She would have waved but he quickly turned his head to say something to the boy with glasses. Instead she rushed over to the seat Ginny had saved for her. It was nice to finally take a seat, where was the food? She was famished. "For a second I thought it was going to place me in Ravenclaw."
"Why? You don’t need to go into that house to prove that you are brilliant. Besides, I’m sure that even it knew that if it would have tried the arse would have stunned it before it could finished the name. He was sitting there gripping his wand the entire time. Your brother is such a tight arse, its no wonder my sister is so bloody in love with him." Ginny lowered her voice seeing as the Headmaster was going over some of the rules. "Welcome to Slytherin, Severus."
"Hmph," he was disappointed that Lily had been sorted into another house but he should have known she wouldn’t make it into Slytherin. As far as he knew no muggleborn had ever gotten sorted into the house. He’d just have to find a way to still spend time with her. It was only expected they would both make other friends amongst their own houses. "I guess you won’t be able to go unicorn hunting after all."
"Why not?" Luna chose to ignore the comment about the forest being off limits to all students. He didn’t answer due to food suddenly appeared before them. Seeing as she was hungry as well she reached for bowl of fruit to the right. Let those two argue over who got the biggest piece of beef. Shame Severus wasn’t quick enough. The redhead speared forward with her fork to lay claim to the half-cooked meal.
"Oh my, get ready to vomit, Sev. At the least lose your appetite." Ginny sliced into her meat while eyeing the prissy Prefect walking towards their end of the table. Couldn’t they go throughout their first meal without his presence. Not that she didn’t understand the brother in him wanting to make sure his sister was alright but he was extremely overbearing most of the times. It was going to be hard to have a good time with him always around. "Luna look, it’s your father."
"What Slytherin needs, another Black that doesn’t know when to be silent. At least you didn’t disgrace your family by being placed in another house." Lucius took a seat meaning to eat with his sister. He wouldn’t make a habit of it but he wanted to make sure she’d be alright. The castle could be intimidating to someone new. He knew no one else understood his concern but they didn’t need to. It hadn’t been them that made a habit of being woken up in the middle of a storm by a crying Luna. She had always managed to sneak into his room whenever she woke up scared. It had been over three years since she had crept into his bed. He knew she was growing up but he still worried. As much as she tried to pretend that she was strong, there was something about her that would always be fragile and innocent. "How are you holding up?"
"Great! Oh, Severus, this is my brother, Lucius. This is my friend Severus," she made it a point to say friend so he understood. She wouldn’t put up with his attitude. It was different with Ginny because they would be related soon by marriage. Whether he liked it or not, Ginny would be his sister. Then again, they already fought like they were siblings.
"Pleasure," Lucius gave to boy a brief nod in greeting. As long as the boy knew his place. He’d already sent the word to his friends that his sister wasn’t to be touched. Cissy was saying that he was going a little overboard but he didn’t think so. He knew his friends and the others that lived in the same house. They would take one look at his sister and think easy prey. He’d torture any boy that touched her and would kill any that would was stupid enough to hurt her. He didn’t care if it was the Dark Lord himself. There wasn’t too many things he would consider to be precious, but she was one of them. "After dinner, I’ll be escorting the first years to the dorms. Try to remain where I can see you. Oh, if it’s at all possible, lose the brat on the way."
"Lucius, I would be appalled but I know you just want me to help Cissy locate some empty balconies for your later use. Does Luna know about your fascination with them?" She loved to see his sadistic grin falter as said sister looked towards him in confusion. Oh, to still have something to hold over his pretty, shiny head. How long did he think she would remain ignorant of his sex life? Ginny knew for a fact that the couple had long since passed that stage in their relationship. Some idiots thought it funny to forget to cast a silencing spell when sneaking off into the library to fuck.
"Why don’t you mind your own business?" He was aghast at the girl’s behavior. Why did his parents continue to allow his sister to associate with this girl? He was thankful that Cissy was a lot better bred than the youngest sister. If he wasn’t careful she’d have his sweet sister wearing those skimpy outfits and snogging boys in empty classrooms.
"Why don’t you be a man for once and make me? Or does my sister still insist on shaving your arse?" Ginny saw the infamous Malfoy nostril flare in anger at her accusation. There were a few snickers around the table but no one spoke up. Instead, the Prefect gently tugged on a lock of blonde hair before blessing her friend a smile before departing. Thank Merlin! Now she could enjoy her food without wanting to vomit. She adored her sisters, she did. Cissy was still her favorite. It was the only reason she had yet to hex all of that pretty hair off of his head. Since Luna didn’t want to hurt his fragile manly feelings, all one of them, it was up to her to get rid of him. "Sorry about that, Severus. He’s not a total git but he can be overly protective of Luna at times."
It was none of his concern. Though he had to say the girl had some nerve to speak to a Prefect and a sixth year like that. Instead of retaliating the man had simply walked away after smiling pleasantly at the blonde. "Still, most would not let you get away with talking to them like that. Weren’t you worried about being punished for your behavior?"
"Nope. One, I’m best friends with his sister." Ginny wasn’t worried about Lucius Malfoy. He’d listen and like it! What could he do? "Also, see that blonde girl now hanging onto his arm? The one he’s giving the sappy puppy eyes to? Well, that is my sister. They are engaged to marry. So, I am protected by two of the most important women in his life. I win by default."
"I see your logic." Severus could tell by the way the man, he wouldn’t call him a boy, was seated that he was highly thought of in their house. Lucius Malfoy had an aura to him that would naturally draw people to his side. Despite all that, there did seem to be a certain fondness on his features as he turned to speak to the pretty Slytherin at his side. What he wouldn’t give to be able to sit next to Lily and look down upon her without worrying if she liked him that way too.
What was Lucius’ fascination with balconies? Luna jabbed at the peach slice as she tried to think of the reasons. She did like the ones at home because it gave a beautiful view of the grounds. The one over the library allowed one to look out at her mum’s garden. Whatever it was couldn’t be good with how Ginny had used the knowledge to get him to leave. She knew neither would tell her if she were to ask. Ginny because she was using the secret to her advantage so telling would nullify that leverage. Lucius would say because he obviously didn’t want her to know. Did Narcissa know? Then there was something else that was bugging her. "Does your sister really shave his arse?"
