Chapter Three-
Waking up the next morning on his comfortable bed in Grimmauld Place, Harry arched his back and stretched his arms over his head for a few seconds before dropping back onto the bed.
Reaching up to scratch behind his ear, Harry frowned when he encountered more ear. Jumping up, he ran over to the dresser where there was a small mirror and pulled it up. Pushing his hair away from his ear, he was surprised to see that his ears had changed. They had lengthened at the top and now, instead of curving, they ended in a point.
Sighing, Harry scrubbed at his face then made his way out of the room. Hearing Sirius' boisterous laugh from the kitchen, Harry rushed down the stairs and into the room.
“You've had your fun now change it back.” Harry said, crossing his arms across his chest.
“Change what back, Cub? I haven't been up to anything. Just ask Remus.”
“He really hasn't, Harry. He's been down here. He was even busy with feeding and changing Teddy so I could sleep in.”
Smiling, Harry asked, “Well then can you explain these?” Pulling his hair away from his ears, Harry looked at Sirius expectantly.
“You haven't read that letter from your mum yet have you?” Sirius asked.
“No I wanted to wait until this morning when I was awake and...mentally ready.” Harry admitted.
“Go read it. It will explain things to you.”
Nodding, Harry said, “I'll be in the library if you need me before I come out.”
“Take your time, Cub. We'll be here when you get done or if you need us at all while you're reading.” Remus said, with a reassuring smile at him.
Nodding again, Harry turned and made his way towards the library, heading straight for his normal high back leather recliner and curled up with his feet underneath him.
Taking a deep breath, he opened up the envelope and pulled out the neatly folded piece of paper.
Looking at his mother's neat, elegant scrawl, Harry wished he wrote half as good as she seemed to.
Shaking his head, Harry started to read the letter;
My dearest, darling, baby boy,
As I write this your father and I live in fear of Voldemort finding us and attacking. I hope that I can one day throw this letter out and talk to you myself about what I must tell you, but, as I said, it is with fear of dying and leaving you that forces me into writing this letter.
Let me start by saying I love you and that if something has happened to your father and I, I'm sorry for leaving you. I wish I hadn't, but some things cannot be stopped and death is one of them.
But I do not write this letter to be morbid and discuss death with you. I write it to tell you of what you might be experiencing as you come of age. As you know there are some Witches and Wizards that are part magical creature and, at a certain age, usually at Wizarding maturity depending on the strength of the Witch or Wizard, they will also come into their creature inheritance.
My family, through my grandfather and your great grandfather, Cat Sidhe blood runs through our veins. Cat Sidhe's are Fairies or Elves that have the ability to change into cat like creatures when threatened or when they are pregnant as some prefer to give birth in their creature form as some children decide to come out in their own feline form as opposed to a human shape.
I did not come into that inheritance, but there is a chance that you might. If you've started going through changes, such as getting a mark on your chest -which is always the first sign- and changing features then you're starting to come into your inheritance. It usually takes about a week for the full changes to finish. Don't be afraid of these changes, darling and don't fight them. Fighting them doesn't work. Just accept it and be prepared to find a mate. You might be the Dominant and you might be the submissive, just don't fight it if the gender isn't what you, as a Wizard, might have chosen as your mate.
If you've come into your inheritance the house is yours. I wish I could tell you it was yours even if you haven't come into a Cat Sidhe inheritance, but unfortunately, someone in our family decided to spell it so that only Cat Sidhe's could live in the house. I wish they hadn't or that I could have changed it because I feel that Voldemort would not be able to find us there as opposed to Godric's Hollow where I fear our time is running short.
I wish I had more information that I could share with you, but there isn't a lot that I know of Cat Sidhe's. I guess it's a hands on, learn as you go experience.
I love you, Harry and your father loves you. Just remember that and try not to trust Dumbledore so easily because he always seemed too eager to throw you to Voldemort for the prophecy. And don't be too mad at Sirius for not telling you sooner. I made him swear a Wizarding oath that he wouldn't tell you until it was absolutely necessary. I did that because I feel that your life won't be an easy one and this isn't something you need heaped on you if it doesn't need to be.
I wish I could keep writing because I know if you're reading this I'm gone, but I have to stop writing because I hear you crying in the other room for your morning bottle. I know I keep repeating this, but I love you, Harry. I love you so much and I will always be there with you in spirit if not in body.
Love always, Mum.
Bringing his knees up to his chest, Harry wrapped his arms around them, staring at the paper that he was clenching in his fist. It was kind of hard to believe what he had read, but he had gotten the letter from Sirius and it was written by his own mother and that wasn't something Sirius would have lied to him about.
Sitting there, he must have gotten lost in his own thoughts an mind because the next thing he knew Remus and Sirius were kneeling in front of him with concerned frowns on their faces.
“Is something wrong?” Harry asked them.
“We could ask you the same thing, Cub. You've been in here for three hours and then we came in and you looked so far away.” Remus said, rubbing his hand up and down Harry's arm while Sirius clutched at his knee.
“Just lost in thought. I'm sorry for accusing you of changing my ears.” He said with a sheepish grin.
“It's alright, Cub. I sometimes blame myself for tricks that have been pulled on me before I look at anyone else.”
Snorting out a laugh, Harry said, “You would think you pulled a prank on yourself before anyone else came to mind.”
“Are you okay with what you've read?” Sirius asked.
“Yeah I'm good. It might take a little getting used to, but I think I'm fine.” Harry said honestly.
Nodding, Sirius and Remus stood up and Remus said, “Come on and eat something, Cub. While you're doing that I've got a few house-elves scheduled to get here soon so that you can decide on who you want to hire.”
“That's good. I can't wait to move into the house...not that I don't appreciate you letting me stay here.” Harry added quickly.
Smiling, Sirius said, “I know, Cub. Just don't think that you moving into your own house will keep me from visiting you as much as I want to.”
“I would never think that. Besides if you didn't come and visit me then I'd come over here and visit you.” Harry said with a grin.
Putting a preservation charm on the letter, Harry carefully folded it and slipped it in his pocket then followed Sirius and Remus out of the room and back towards the dining room.
When they reached the dining room the table was already set up with plates of food. As they sat down, Harry immediately dug in, moaning in pleasure as the flavors burst on his tongue; the perfect mixture of blackberry sauce and oven roasted pork loin.
While they were eating, Kreacher popped loudly into the room and sneered at the occupants while mumbling, “Your elves be here, Master Black.”
“Good show them in.”
Mumbling under his breath, Kreacher popped out of the room and a few seconds later was back with three wide-eyed elves all dressed in old, ripped up, blue sheets.
“Okay I want you all, one at a time, to step forwards, say your name, and what you can do for the household.” Sirius said, since Harry was still chewing the food in his mouth.
The first to step forwards was an older looking elf with a hunch to her back and she seemed to be missing part of her right ear.
“My name be Flopsy. I be taking care of the household by cleaning and keeping clean. I also be taking care of children if there be any.” She said, looking at the ground and twisting her hands together nervously.
“Why are you scared?” Harry asked, softly.
Flopsy's head shot up, her eyes wider than normal before she seemed to hunch into herself even further.
When she didn't seem intent on answering, Sirius said, “Her last family used her in an elf fighting ring. She was taken freed after she lost a fight. The agency seems to think she needs a family that will treat her right to help her heal.”
“I think she needs some therapy to learn to trust any new family before she is taken in.” Harry said, looking at the trembling elf sadly.
“So you don't want her?” Sirius asked.
“Not right yet.” He said, frowning sadly when Flopsy seemed to sag in relief.
“Kreacher return Flopsy to the agency.” Sirius ordered.
As soon as the two popped out of the room, the next elf stepped forwards.
“My name is being Dipper and I is taking care of cleaning the home and keeping it full of foods and everything you be needing. I is being with my last family for fifteen years before they was killed.” He said, tugging on his long ears.
“Are you willing to come into my household and do those duties or are you not willing to bond at the time?” Harry asked.
“Dipper being happy to get new family.” The elf said, bouncing slightly in place.
“You want this one?” Sirius asked.
Nodding, Harry said, “I think he'll do fine in my house.”
“Alright. See if you want the last one too and then I'll have Kreacher gather the contracts.”
Nodding, Harry motioned for the final elf to step forwards. She was shorter than the other two and she had a slightly rounded stomach.
“My name is being Mipsy. I cares for outside and gardens. I is also carrying baby elf that can help the house once babys is born.” She said rubbing her stomach.
“Is it safe for you to be working while pregnant?” Harry asked with a frown.
“Oh yes yes, Mister. The magic I be using helps baby grow and learn while inside the belly.”
“And are you willing to come into my household and become my elf?”
Nodding, She said, “Yes of course. It be Mipsy's pleasure to work for Mister.”
“Okay. I'll take them both, Sirius.”
“Kreacher, gather the contracts in my office and bring them here.” He ordered the sulking elf in the shadows.
“You've got to stop torturing that elf, Sirius. He'd probably be more willing to listen and do what you say if you weren't mean and practicing your pranks on him.”
“When he stops I might stop.” Sirius said with a small pout as the elf popped back in and practically threw the papers at Sirius before he popped back out of the room.
Changing a spoon into a pen, Sirius handed over two packets of papers and the pen.
“These are the contracts. Just sign them and then it's all done.”
Nodding, Harry scanned through the contracts then signed them once he was happy. As soon as his signature sank into the paper, they rose from the table and floated over to the elves. Once there, the papers started to change and shrink until the Potter Crest was in front of them then settled onto the right arm of their clothes.
Pushing his plate away from him, Harry stood up and said, “I think I should bring Dipper and Mipsy over to the house and let them get a look at the place. Would you two like to come with?”
“I wouldn't mind going and I'm sure Teddy might like the big yard in the back. Rolling and crawling in the grass always feels better than hard floors.” Sirius said with a grin.
“Alright you've twisted my arm.” Remus said with a smile. “Let me just go and grab Teddy and we can go.”
