Harry had woken up hours ago. His hair felt funny, which made his scalp itch, and his skin was dry in spots, but he'd a feeling it was nothing that some moisturizing cream and a bath couldn't help. It took seconds after awakening to have an idea of where he was. That smell of cleanliness, fresh linens, and a few distinct potions was not unfamiliar, but his mind was not supplying him with the name of this location. Sirius snored quite lousy by his bedside, and he knew that awkward fluttering of breath. When the man snored, it sounded almost like a drain that was trying desperately to down water, but it was clogged.
So there he laid waiting for his Godfather to awaken. Aside from the snoring all was silent, until the door opened.
"Oooh, Lovely!" The voice belonged to a woman, but it was not possible to gauge her age from just that. He smiled in the direction of the voice and was about to ask her to be quiet for Sirius' sake, when he jumped awake and hands flew to the young boys shoulders, causing him to both gasp and jump.
"HARRY! You're back. Oh, my boy. Does anything hurt? A-Are you feeling ill? Are you OK? Are…"
"SIRIUS"
"Mr. Black."
His hand found the older man's and he grasped it tightly, despite the now weakened throbs of pain in his shoulders and back. "I'm ok. I'm here and I am ok. A little soar and it's dark, but I am ok."
In a moment he could feel the woman's hands behind his head as she unwrapped whatever it was that made his vision black. It was a comfortable silence and he could slowly see more and more light. "I am going to remove the gauze, but I want you to let your eyes remain closed until you think it's not too bright. You can easily damage your eyes like that Mister Potter. Now, do you know what day it is?" Her short heels clicked as she walked about the room, gathering, moving, throwing things in the bin, whatever she was doing. She saw Harry shrug a bit before she answered. "You came to us on a Monday. Today is Thursday"
His voice was slightly scratchy but he felt a cup touch his lips and knew that Sirius was doing it. He took a swig of the slightly cool liquid and tested his throat by clearing it before he spoke again. "So I've been here for 3 days. That's not too-"
"Oh heavens no! You arrived to us on Monday the 2nd of September. Today is Thursday the 26th of September. Just over three weeks, you've been a asleep on my watch."
"Three weeks? W-what happened?" Delicate hands came to rub his eyes and he tested the light by opening them a fraction only to close them again. The room was quiet after that and Sirius finally spoke.
His voice was slightly gruff. "You don't remember? Snape and I found you at the Dursley's." He provided a but to maybe jog his memory. He squeezed the boy's hand in his own, seeing the look come across his face. "Harry?"
"You found me where?" He tested his eyes once more and found the light to not be as bad.
"At the Dursley's. You were tied up in a shed in the back yard. We brought you here, but you've been asleep ever since." He shared a look with the nurse, not so worried, but with slight concern in his eyes. It was Harry's following question that truly brought the concern to the once convicts face, and a small gasp from the medi-witch.
"Who are the Dursley's?"

Severus had been reading a new potions text when the headmistress' head appeared in the flames to his right. "Harry's woken up." McGonagle said. Even in the moving orange and yellow the potions master could see something off in the woman's eyes. She looked older in that moment and he wasn't sure if he liked it one bit. Even when the gravest of the grave occurred, the headmistress always remained level headed, as if she knew that all would be well. She seemed almost as if she was fighting off depression.
"You deliver good news, yet your face tells me otherwise. What is wrong?" His thumb remained on the page as he closed the cover and slipped a marker in the hold his spot. "Has the boy awoken and thrown a fit?"
"Severus, I am afraid that Mister Potter seams to be suffering from a rather bad case of amnesia… at least we hope that this is Amnesia." She turned and left the fire, and Severus clicked his tongue. This was how the ex-transfigurations professor told someone to come through; by baiting them with a topic of interest and leaving them on what muggles might refer to as a "cliff hanger". He stood then, grasped a bit of floo powder and stepped through to the woman's office.
He dusted the soot from his robes once on the lighter colored stone floor and watched as this brilliant witch paced for a moment before taking a seat behind her desk. "I am afraid that this is much worse then just forgetting an experience Severus."
Snape stood by the fire, having no desire to be seated, eat a biscuit, drink tea, or stay any longer then truthfully needed in this office. It was how he felt when the old man had been in charge and though it was much less annoying now, he still did not want to hang about. "What has he forgotten? How to tie his shoes, or how to get into trouble."
"Everything. He does not remember who you are. The only person he seams to remember is Mr.Black." She looked at him with fire in her eyes. Was she angry, sad, or determined, he truly did not know.
"How is that possible?" Severus stood still by the fire and tried to reason this in his mind. Dealing with his house, he'd managed many abused students, but none had been in any situation as dire as where they'd found Harry. "Does he remember his own name?"
McGonnagal took a careful sip of her tea before looking at the papers upon her desk. They were pieces of clean cut parchment with notes, clearly written by the staff at Saint Mungos. "He knows his name but so far he has not recalled the names of teachers, friends-" The next word was said, even for this old professor, with a tone of utter distain, "-Family. If you had not found the boy when you did, I fear that he would have awoken with no memory and the Dursley's would still have him. Tea?" She pushed a pot forward and despite the man's earlier unwillingness to even take a chair, Snape could hardly not accept the tea now. The drink was lavender and it was quite a good idea, seeing as in all his wisdom, Severus Snape did not know what to say or how to handle a student who would not remember him.
"Headmistress, the implications of this news-"
The door flew open, slamming into the wall behind it. Both occupants of the office jumped a moment and turned to see the head of Gryffindor house standing in the entry way. "Minerva." She began, enraged and scared, her voice filled with a tone not unfamiliar to that of a certain red headed Weasley woman. "What is going on?"
"Sit down, please. I have just received news on Harry's condition and you, as head of house, will need to hear this and alert your students if you believe it necessary. Mr.Weasley and Ms.Granger, you may send to me so I may speak with them. I will not have them hearing such news from fellow students, rather then myself." She waited until the other woman took a seat. "Harry has awoken and is in little pain, aside from some issues of soreness in various spots, which I've no doubt that Severus could whip up some salve for?" At which the potions masters simply sipped his tea and gave an almost unnoticeable nod. "However that is easy to fix. The severity of the situation, which I know Nymphadora, you saw at the trial, has in some peculiar way, altered Mr. Potter's memories. He knows his name and he knows Sirius Black. He seems to know bits and pieces of daily life, but not the people and not the names of many places. I visited with him and supplied photographs of Mr.Weasley and Ms.Granger, but he did not recall their names or faces." She took another long sip of tea before she placed the cup and saucers back down.
The now black haired witch leaned forward in her chair and began her own line of questioning. "Harry has amnesia?"
"It would seem so."
"Well that is simple enough. Severus didn't make a potion to elevate this when Parkinson forgot who she was?" Tonks turned to address the black clad man.
"Parkinson fell down a flight of stairs and laid her head into a stone wall. That was caused by injury. Potter's amnesia is psychological. His head was not injured. His mind is what caused it, and there is no potion to do such a thing."
She looked at him and spoke as though this were the most obvious answer on the planet. "Then make one."
"Why don't you transfigure his brain into a previous version where he was fine." His replied with a snide curl of the lip.
"Well, I can't do that. It doesn't work that way.."
"Neither do potions."
"Please, I beg of you both. Do not argue over this." Minerva stood, hands in the air to stop both of her faculty members. "Harry's lack of memory will simply need to be dealt with until such a time as he recalls the last 16-years of his life. Severus will be caring for him until then and - DO NOT INTERRUPT ME -" Tonks put her hand down and shit her mouth. "-and he will be sure that Harry is in good health until this is behind him. I have looked through the options and this is the only one that is both logical and possible. There is no room for argument. Am I understood?"
They both nodded, Tonks more so.

EDIT: Thank you for pointing out a date mistake! I've fixed it to match with chapter one. This is why I should have re-read the in their entirety not just skimmed as needed. I also wrote this chapter with Dumbeldore before I remembered that I'd killed him off. I had to go back and fix everything. UGH.
Thank you all for the wonderful reviews! I am so sorry that it took so long to get this updated and that it's so darn short. Between now and that last chapter my computer had died and I had forgotten about it. I'm back though. :D I had to go back through and re-read what I'd written to get an idea of where I was going and how I was wanted to see it end eventually. The next chapter will be long. I promise. :3
Please enjoy and do review!
If there is something you might like to see happen, feel free to put it in a review or send me an email at Saramoon@cfl.rr.com. :D
