Coming to, Harry was very disoriented, feeling like his head was stuffed with wool or something. With a groan, he was about to turn over when there seemed to be a flood of memories that hit him of more incidents like the night before. Stiffening up, he felt his skin begin to crawl then, as it kept playing out, a form of panic set in. As it flashed through some of the younger incidents and the emotions from those came into play, he let out a pained moan, eyes screwed tightly shut, folding his arms over his head, just wanting it to stop. This wasn't something he was prepared for when he told Tom to break the Obliviations! It was like being bombarded with things he didn't want to know about, let alone things he knew happened but hadn't remembered!
Full out panic taking over, he opened his eyes and was about to get up when he felt a hand on his shoulder. That just seemed to drive the feeling of panic ever higher, sending him into self defense mode. Galvanized, he was trying to push himself up on his hands so he could grab his wand then start throwing hexes or at least fight back in some physical way when a soft voice, one he recognized said, “Harry, just calm down. You're safe.”
Head turning in that direction, Harry blinked. Right now the world was a big blur as he didn't have his contacts in or glasses on, but he knew that voice, “Lucius?” He asked, voice uneven, still tense, in fight or flight mode.
“Yes, Harry,” Lucius replied softly, putting a hand on his head. “Just lay there and I'll put your contacts in then hand you your wand.”
Relieved, Harry just nodded and waited.
Tapping the container the contacts were in, Lucius then tapped each of Harry's eyelids with his wand, putting the contacts in. After that, seeing Harry blink and his eyes looking like they were coming into focus, he handed over the young man's wand.
Feeling better that he could now see and had his wand on him, Harry made to turn over.
“Harry, just hang on,” Narcissa told him softly, putting a hand on his shoulder.
Looking at her, he said, softly, “I need to find the loo.”
Nodding, Narcissa gave him a small smile then said, “I understand. I would suggest, since you had to have a form of surgery, that you slide out of bed from the position you are in rather than try to sit up. You're probably going to need some help walking as well. Lean on Lucius to do that. Once you're done tending to your needs, I have some cream that needs to be applied.” Seeing the horrified look on his face, she shook her head then reassured him, “It's done with a spell, Harry, while you have your clothes on. Nothing more than that. However, I'm the only one of us that knows it. It'll take seconds, nothing more. Alright?”
Nodding, Harry, slid out of bed from the awkward position and tried to stand but that sent waves of pain through his lower regions. Wincing, he immediately grabbed onto Lucius to steady himself then began to shuffle towards the bathroom, flushed, horrified, disgusted and angry over the whole thing but not sure what to do beyond what he was.
Slipping a hand around Harry's back, Lucius had Harry lean on him then led him slowly towards the bathroom. Doing that, he wanted to say something that was comforting to his young man but there were no words to express that nor did he know what might be 'right' or 'wrong' when it came to such a thing. Rather than even trying, so he didn't say something to make what was a horrid situation even worse, he just held on to the young man, guiding him. He would be there for him, and make that clear, but that's all he knew how to do. It was his hope that it would be enough but he wasn't sure about that.
Once Lucius helped him into the bathroom and was sure he could stand on his own, he left Harry alone to tend to things, waiting outside the door, leaning against the wall.
After he finished and had everything tucked back into place then washed his hands, Harry let Narcissa know. Stepping in with the pot of the cream she needed, she cast the spell. Though it burned at first, feeling like it was irritating flesh that felt very raw, it quickly started to feel better, soothing it. After that, he let Lucius lead him back to bed. While they were tending to that, Tom had cast a cushioning charm on the bed that would make it less painful for him to sit down. Though wincing when his backside met the cushioned bed, Harry was relieved that it wasn't as painful as he thought it would be.
Once Lucius seated himself on the bed by Harry, putting a comforting hand on his shoulder, Narcissa conjured a chair in front of him then seated herself. “Alright, Harry, let me fill you in on what happened.” Seeing the pale young man nod, she told him gently, “We had to call a real Healer in to do some surgery because the tearing you had was beyond what I could work with.” Seeing some panic flash across his face, she held up a hand then said, “Don't worry, the one Lucius brought in won't say anything to anyone. She's dealt with us before and is paid well enough that she won't reveal anything. Now, the tearing was bad and was something that caused all the pain you were in. It's been fixed. No, you're not going to feel the best for several days and it's going to make you uncomfortable but it should lessen after tonight. Plus, we have some good pain draughts for you to take.”
Sighing, Harry nodded, looking at the floor. The whole thing was humiliating for him. Not only that, he was appalled that it happened so many times and that he hadn't been able to stop it. Rubbing his eyes, he watched scenes that he assumed had been Obliviated play out once more. That made him feel sick to his stomach and angry at the same time. Part of him, that irrational part that sometimes drove his temper and made him do things he shouldn't, wanted to go back to the castle then extract his revenge on Snape personally. However, with the shape he was in, that wasn't even an option. Instead, he just groaned and shook his head. He wanted the images to go away, not to mention the sick, helpless, angry feeling that came along with them.
Looking at the young man, Narcissa then glanced over at Lucius and Tom. This wasn't going to be easy to deal with and she was far out of her element in doing so. She thought she would be better than the other two as she had at least read about such things in the past, but it was going to be a case with her of going with the flow. Harry had a lot to deal with, both physically and emotionally, but his safety came first. They had to ensure that. Clearing her throat, she waited until he looked at her then said, “We're going to need you to eat something right now. Some of the draughts I have to give you need you to have something in your stomach. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but you have to eat something, alright? I'll get an elf to bring you something light. After tonight, the Healer suggested we start you on Dreamless Sleep for a week. It won't fix this, Harry, the emotional part of it anyway, but it'll help you distance yourself from it. We just can't do that tonight, alright? One of the pain draughts can't be given with Dreamless Sleep.” When she saw him nod, she lowered her voice slightly then told him, “While you eat, Tom and Lucius need to talk to you. There are decisions that need made to keep your safe and you have to be with it to do that, alright?”
Glancing at Lucius, he saw him nod. Looking over his shoulder, he saw Tom standing there. Looking back at Narcissa, he sighed then nodded himself. “Alright, let's get this done with.” Though he wasn't sure he wouldn't puke up whatever was put in his stomach, he wanted something for the pain he was in so he would give it a shot.
Nodding, Narcissa summoned the elf and had it bring the potato soup and homemade bread that they had prepared for the young man, something she knew was his favorite, with some tea. When she saw Harry pick up the spoon then grimace down at the bowl she told him gently, “Just eat as much as you can. If you want something else, let us know.”
Shaking his head, Harry sighed, “This is fine. Just...” Stopping, he made a sour face. He was feeling sick to his stomach from the riot of bad memories that he was sure he was better off not remembering. Scrubbing his eyes, he then took a sip of tea before starting to try to eat, feeling his stomach revolt as the first spoonful hit it.
Glancing at Tom and Lucius, he gave them a look that said this had to be dealt with as soon as possible.
Nodding to Narcissa, Tom came around the bed then sat down in a chair he conjured next to her. Leaning forward, putting his elbows on his knees then clasping his hands, he looked at the young man then said, keeping his voice soft. “Alright, Harry, I'm going to fill you in on what we've done so far then Lucius and I are going to walk you through what we have a plan for. As always has been the case, it's your choice in the matter. Whatever you say, we'll abide by. However, right now it's the best we can come up with. So, before you reject it out of hand, we want to discuss it with you. Work for you?”
Taking another spoonful of the soup, Harry nodded but couldn't look at the man.
With a glance at Lucius, Tom began to explain the spells they had put on him to prevent anyone from tracing or tracking him. From there, he explained the breaking of the Obliviation and how he had collected the memories, including other ones, so that if they did need them Harry wouldn't be forced to do it himself or for him to go back in and do it for the young man.
Hearing that, Harry's head came up and he looked slightly sick. “Who saw them?” He asked in a slightly strangled voice.
“Only I did, Harry. No one else has, I give you my word,” Tom told him firmly. “They are in my office in a secure place. No one can get to them unless I retrieve them.” Glancing at Lucius, he shot him a look that said 'I told you so' before looking back at Harry.
Face flushed, Harry, shivered slightly then looked down at the bowl of soup. Really, he didn't want any more but forced himself to take another bite, feeling ill as he did. At this point, he wasn't sure what he was supposed to feel but rage, anger, humiliation, shame and several other things he couldn't identify were at war. Hand shaking, he put his spoon down and rubbed his eyes. Though the emotions weren't clear, the fact that he either wanted to burst into tears or slug something was what he could identify. Hell, he wasn't sure that he wouldn't do both at the same time! Gritting his teeth, he blinked to get rid of the burning sensation in his eyes and clasped his hands tightly to keep from punching something, body trembling.
Not sure what to do about this reaction, Tom glanced to Narcissa then Lucius, hoping one of them had a solution.
Though not sure himself how to start to deal with what was happening, Lucius put a hand on Harry's lower back. Leaning against him, he just rubbed the spot then rested his head against the young man's. Reaching out with his other one, he took Harry's hand then whispered, “Squeeze it until you feel better. It's not much, but it should help.”
Automatically, Harry did just that, squeezing Lucius' hand so tight his knuckles turned white while trying to breathe deeply, hoping to keep himself under some form of control.
Though he gave a slight wince at the strength behind the squeeze, Lucius said nothing, just keeping on rubbing Harry's back, head resting against his. It was his hope that since Harry was allowing his touch, the young man knew he was 'safe' and wouldn't react badly.
Sitting there quietly, Tom waited for Harry to calm down so he could continue on. While doing that, he reached out and took Narcissa's hand. When he felt her give it a squeeze, he rubbed his thumb over the back of it. Though she didn't show it, she was greatly upset by what she had seen and heard so far. He was just thankful, for Harry's sake, that she and Lucius were good at masking their emotions. As he well knew, later that night, when the two of them were alone, she would have a breakdown of some kind in the form of either tears or a show of her temper. Either way, he would help her deal with it when it happened. He imagined that for Lucius, in dealing with Harry, whatever was to come was probably worse.
After what felt like an eternity to him, Harry finally started to relax, the impulse fading. Loosening his grip on Lucius' hand, he muttered, “Sorry,” knowing he must have hurt him as hard as he was squeezing.
“You have nothing to be sorry for,” Lucius whispered, tone firm. Keeping hold of Harry's hand, he gave it a gentle squeeze but didn't let go.
Looking at the young man, Tom asked gently, “Do you think you can go on? If not, we can wait a while.”
Nodding, Harry said nothing, still looking down. Though not letting go of Lucius' hand, he reached out and grabbed a slice of the buttered bread and began to nibble at it, hoping it would calm his stomach slightly.
Nodding, knowing the worst was yet to come, Tom launched in to tell Harry the plan they had come up with to deal with the whole thing. For the first part, Harry didn't react much, just nodding. However, when they got to publicizing it and the memories being shared, the young man's head came up, a horror-stricken look on his face. Holding up his hand, Tom told him gently, “Let me finish first, then we can go into part of it and a plan I came up with to deal with some of it, alright?”
Swallowing thickly, feeling horrified about sharing memories that were making him ill to remember, Harry just nodded, at least willing to listen.
With a sigh, Tom finished up what he had to say. Seeing Harry stare at him, an anguished look on his face, he said, “While you were out, Lucius and I did some research on the treaties that exist. He was right; as part of one between the two countries, the French Minister would have to turn the memories over to the DMLE. And I do believe Lucius is right that the paper would want them. On that front, I think I can assist. Because I pulled the memories and saw them, what I can do is an 'edit' on them. They will see the first and last parts but the actual assault they won't see. They'll get enough to know it's real and can get a confirmation of the assault from the minister. That way, no matter who sees them, the fact that you were rendered helpless, did nothing wrong and were assaulted is there but the actual assault itself won't be.”
Seeing Harry eye him then look down, seeming to think it over, he told the young man gently, “Harry, none of this is your fault. None. Of. It. Snape took revenge for what your father did to him in school out on you. That's all it was. Nothing more. That's what everyone who sees them who has an I.Q. greater than a flobberworm will get.” Stopping, he waited. When Harry's head didn't come up and he seemed to be shaking slightly, Tom sighed. There was something else that he knew he could use to get Harry going in the direction he wanted but wouldn't do so. It would be dumping more on the young man's shoulders that didn't need to be there. That he didn't want to do though it was something he knew would get Harry to see things how they were and probably agree to the plan.
Sitting there, Narcissa felt helpless. She didn't know what to do to ease the pain of the young man she had grown so fond of. No potion, salve, whatever was out there to take away the after effects of what he had gone through. Then there was the fact that he had to even consider something that someone as private as him would find horrifying. It was made even worse that there was little choice in what they could do for him to keep him safe and out of the hands of the Ministry.
Lucius looked at the other two, at a loss as to what to say. It had all been laid out, what could come of it, consequences for it and everything else. Now, it was up to Harry to make a choice. Though he felt this was for the best, he wasn't going to push anything. Giving the back of Harry's hand, the one he was holding, a stroke, he nuzzled his head gently, saying nothing.
Sitting there, eyes screwed tightly shut, Harry was trying to think the whole thing over. He understood what they wanted from this and why they were going about it the way they were but he was horrified about giving up so many things that were very personal. Rubbing his eyes with two fingers of the hand that didn't have Lucius' in a death grip, one of the memories keep flooding his mind, playing itself out. Though it was horrifying to relive it, there was something that was mentioned in it that caught his attention. It was that one thing that told him, though he wanted revenge, knowing this would do it, he should do it for another reason beyond his personal protection. Shaking, he lifted his head then asked Tom, softly, “You heard the other names, didn't you?”
Ignoring the bewildered looks Narcissa and Lucius shot his way, Tom looked at the young man then nodded. “I heard them,” he said softly.
Starting to shake again, Harry shook his head then said, voice breaking slightly, “One of them is my friend, a good one. He's lost...” Stopping, he swallowed thickly but said no more.
“I know,” Tom told him quietly. “I doubt he knows, Harry. He probably has no idea why he's so scared of the man.”
Unable to stop it as the name reverberated in his head, Harry felt one tear slide down his cheek then he whispered, “He's so scared of that... man. Now I know why.”
Though bewildered by the cryptic conversation, the dawning horror of what it could mean began to hit Narcissa. Eyes wide, she looked at Lucius who also had a look that told her he was getting it as well. Mouth opening and closing, she couldn't make a sound then clapped her hand over it to make sure she said nothing, shaking her head.
Shaking his head, Harry swiped away the tear then felt a cold fury wash through him. Grinding his teeth, he straightened up then asked, tone aggravated, “If I do this, can they do something about the others? At least try? You said that they can't get to me if I won't help. Can't they do something or talk to the others if they have my memories?”
“They can,” Tom told him firmly with a nod. “You will be out of their reach and nothing can be done about your case if you refuse to help. However, if they view them and hear the names, they can use that to interview them. They know how to find such things, Harry. If they find them, they can break them like I did.”
“Alright, I'll do it then,” Harry told him firmly, nodding. Gritting his teeth, he then shook his head, “Rotten arsed bastard! Just...” Stopping, he shut his eyes and took several deep breaths. “How fast can we do this? I want it over.”
“I'll go to France in the morning and see what I can set up. If I lay out enough of the facts to someone I know in the Ministry, keeping your name out of it of course, I think I can get you in to see the minster either tomorrow or the next day. Narcissa and I have already talked about it and know the house we're going to set up for you. We won't do anything with it yet until this plays out. We don't want to tip our hand ahead of time if we can't do it this way. I'm going to try to get this going as fast as I can, but some does depend on the bureaucracy in France.” Lucius explained to him, still shooting Tom and Narcissa a horrified look over what he was certain he had heard correctly.
“Alright, works for me,” Harry said wearily, shaking his head. “Just... try to hurry. At least one of his victims is still in that school.”
“Oh sweet Merlin's beard,” Narcissa muttered, tone strangled as she shook her head.
“Who...” Lucius started before he stopped himself, looking from Tom to Narcissa then back at Harry.
“It's not my place to tell you,” Harry told him softly. “He doesn't know and it's a private thing.”
“I understand,” Lucius said, giving his hand a squeeze.
Picking up what was left of the piece of bread he had been nibbling on, Harry finished it with a grimace then said, “I don't think I can eat anymore.” Looking around, he asked, “Is there anything else that needs to be covered?”
“No, Harry, that's all we need. We can go from here with it. Let Narcissa give you something for pain so you can get some more sleep,” Tom told him gently.
Nodding briskly, Narcissa stood then hurried off to get the draughts they were left, shaking slightly as she did. Oh, someone wanted her to hurt them over this. She knew she couldn't, but it didn't mean she didn't want to. All she hoped was that Tom didn't have much more to do that night because she needed to do some ranting and raving. Since he was the one that she did that with, she needed him before she did something foolish herself.
Waiting until Narcissa left, Tom then said to Harry, quietly, “Nagini is going to stay in here with you. I thought that best. You know nothing will happen to you if she's around.” When he saw Harry nod, he then added, “And I don't think I could throw a hex or spell strong enough to get Lucius out of here.”
“You can't,” Lucius told him firmly. “I'm staying here with Harry.”
“That's fine,” Harry said with another nod. Sighing, he rubbed his eyes then shook his head. “This is all shite. Complete and utter shite that I have to go through this to get out of the hands of the British Ministry. Not to mention proving this... crap. I shouldn't have to do this!”
“We all agree, Harry,” Tom told him. “You shouldn't have to. What you should be able to do is go to your own damned government to get help. We're left in a position that dictates you can't though. If we had another way to protect you better, we would do it. Right now, there is just nothing!”
“I know,” Harry said wearily, a deep sigh in his voice.
Coming back in, Narcissa had the elf take the food away then handled Lucius several vials of potions. “Take those, Harry. It'll kill the pain and you'll get some sleep.”
Taking them from Lucius one by one, Harry downed them, grimacing at the taste. Almost instantly, he felt a bone deep weariness wash over him, making it hard to keep his eyes open. “I need to lay down.” Seeing everyone nod, he went to shift around into a more comfortable position. Before he did that, though, he looked at everyone then said, “Thanks. For everything.”
“There is nothing to thank us for. It's the least we can do to repay you for everything that's happened,” Tom told him softly. Standing, he waited for the young man to get comfortable then put a hand on his head. Giving it a soft rub, he said, quietly, “Sleep, Harry. You're safe here and no one can hurt you. Narcissa and I will be just next door. Bella and her husband are here as well, keeping an eye out for things. You're safe.”
Shifting onto his stomach, Harry nodded. Muttering a slurred thanks, he then drifted off.
Looking at Lucius, Tom said, “You stay put. He needs you more than you need revenge.” Seeing Lucius nod, though looking furious, he then said, “We'll be next door if you need anything.” Then, with a nod, he led Narcissa to his room and quietly shut the door behind him.
