Chapter 2
“I was thinking, Harry,” Remus started then chuckled when he heard a groan from the young man, an amused snort from Severus and Sirius wondering aloud if they should panic. Letting out a long suffering sigh, he pressed on, ignoring those, “You said you like Draco, am I right?”
“He's good,” Harry confirmed, finishing up the last of his breakfast. “Why?” He asked cautiously. Sometimes Remus could come up with some strange things to do that usually involved either a lesson of some kind the man wanted him to learn or took serious work. So, he was wary about this already though he had no idea what it could be about.“Maybe, since he only has a couple of months left of school, you could write to him a few days a week. I'm sure he'd like that. And you would probably like hearing from him.” Looking at Bugs, who was perched on Harry's lap happily munching his way through a plate full of greens, he added, with a smile, “I think we may even be able to get our hands on a camera so you can take some pictures of Bugs to send him. He would probably like those and some of you. From what Lucius said, he talks about you all the time to his friends.”“Don't you mean brags that he knows me?” Harry asked, grinning as he shoved his plate away and leaned against Sirius.“Well, he does that, we'll admit to it,” Remus chuckled softly.“That is a positive sign, though,” Severus told him after a sip of his coffee. “Draco only brags about knowing someone if he likes them. Well, if they are someone everyone knows about, that is. If he didn't like you, he wouldn't say anything.”Thinking it over, Harry said, “Maybe. We'll see. My spelling and that isn't the best, so I'll have problems. We won't even talk about using a damned quill. Those things still suck.” Harry shrugged, making a face.“We can help with the spelling,” Severus told him. “And the more you use the quill, the better you'll get with it.” Though this idea wasn't something he thought of, it was a good one that he liked for a couple of reasons. Harry would like to do something such as this as he would get to poke at Draco good-naturally, not in a cruel way, something that always gave him a laugh, and it would strengthen a friendship with the one person his own age he did get along with. Plus, it would help to improve his spelling and penmanship in a way he would probably find easier than sitting down to lessons with them.“There are even quills that help check your spelling. We can probably get our hands on a few of those for you. You would have to correct it yourself, of course, but it would help you,” Remus told him.Thinking that over, scratching his head, Harry gave a cautious nod. “Yeah, I might be able to do something like this. It doesn't sound bad. As long as he doesn't expect long letters all the time. I mean, it's not like I do much he would be interested in.”“Just talking like you normally would is good,” Sirius told him, slipping an arm around the young man's waist and holding him. “You'll get to know each other better.” Snickering, he said, “It's improved with him, that's for sure. He's not completely terrified of you anymore.”“That was funny, though,” Harry grinned. “The look on his face every time I was around was a laugh riot. Especially when I was doing something with Lucius. It was like he thought I was going to go all mental on his father or something.”“You were very intimidating, Harry,” Sirius chuckled, giving him a squeeze. Thinking it over, he added, “You still can be when you want to. That's what he was reacting to.”“That and how he wasn't sure how to deal with what you had to do over your life. Draco has lived a very sheltered existence when it comes to such matters,” Severus added quietly. “Hearing some of what he did that first night came as a real shock to him. He didn't know what to think as he hadn't thought people were depraved enough to force someone, especially a child, to do some of what you had to do. He had issues himself over some of what he heard.”Thinking that over, petting Bugs while he did, Harry nodded slowly. He really hadn't thought about it that way as his life was all he knew. The people he associated with at the time all knew the same things as well, so it wasn't out of the norm for them. Sometimes, it still came as a surprise to him that people didn't understand that part of his life or were shocked by it. Shrugging, he told them, “I think I get it, maybe.” Grinning a little, looking at Severus, he added, “I can't be all that intimidating to him. From what I heard, you were shite scary to most, especially those that you taught. He thinks you're the greatest thing in the world.”“I was a different kind of intimidating,” Severus told him, amused, smirking. “Plus, he was in my house, so he was used to me like the rest that were there.”“Slytherin was the only house that Severus didn't intimidate because they knew him in a different kind of way. It was just the rest of the school that thought he was evil incarnate,” Remus told Harry, smiling a little.Snickering at the thought, as Harry knew the reactions he'd seen to Severus from people that were former students, he shook his head. “Yeah, okay, I think this is something I might like.” Looking down at Bugs, who was munching on some broccoli, he asked, “What do you think about having your picture taken for Draco?” When the rabbit swallowed what he was eating then lifted up a little before giving him a lick on his nose, Harry chuckled, “I'll take that as you're good with it.”Laughing at that reaction from the rabbit, Remus shook his head. “Alright, when we go out for lunch at the Palace, we'll stop and pick up a camera for you. I think it's best we get one of those self developing ones. That way we don't have to mess with taking the film somewhere. As none of us know how to develop pictures, that's the only option for it.”“Did you get a hold of Lucius about the contest?” Harry asked, looking at Sirius.“I did,” Sirius nodded. “I owled him last night. He and Narcissa are going to meet us there for lunch so we can decide what we're going to dress up as. From what I read in his letter, he's rather enthused by this and likes the idea.”“It will be a most interesting lunch,” Severus said smoothly, imagining the looks on most of the faces when confronted with how flamboyant Freddie Mercury was.Eying his husband warily, knowing that there was something there he wasn't mentioning to warrant that almost sadistically smug look, Remus shook his head. “I imagine it will,” he sighed, wondering just what they were in for. Looking at Harry, he said, “I was also thinking that, maybe, before school lets out for the year, we could take you to Hogwarts. That way you could see all the things we talk about when it comes to the school. You could also sit in the Great Hall for lunch or supper with Draco.”“No,” Harry said quickly, shaking his head vigorously, stiffening up. “No chance there. Too many people and way too many girls around. I don't like that idea.” In fact, the mere thought of that severely unnerved him and he didn't want to even try.Schooling his voice into something soothing because of the reaction, Remus told Harry, “That's fine. It was just a thought. We won't pressure you into something like that.”Giving Harry a squeeze, Sirius said, softly, “We understand. If we can talk Filius into it, maybe a tour of the castle after the semester ends when only a few of the staff are there over the summer? Do you think you'd like that?”
Thinking that over, Harry gave a tentative nod, “Yeah, maybe then. That I could handle. Just not while classes are going on.”“Let me get with Filius and see what I can arrange,” Severus said. “I'll also get with Lucius on the topic. As he's on the Board of Governors, he may be able to put in a good word and arrange something.” Thinking it over for a minute, looking at Bugs as he ate, he added, “I think I should owl Hagrid anyway. He knows much more about animals than we do. I'll see if he knows some kind of plants we can put in the backyard that Bugs may like to eat. In fact, he may be able to get his hands on them.” Looking at the young man who was nodding, he added, smirking a little, “Maybe he can come over for a visit and bring them. You'd like to see him again, wouldn't you?” Hagrid, despite his sheer size, was someone Harry took to right off the bat. It was, like so many that knew the half-giant, his gentle nature and easy personality. Harry latched on to that quickly.“Yeah, I'd like that. Haven't seen him in a while,” Harry said with a nod.“Let me get in touch with him. He may know more about Bugs' breed and what to expect than we can find,” Severus said, making a mental note to do just that.
Hand over his mouth, shoulders shaking, Severus was trying not to let the amused noises he was making out. The reaction to the videos playing on the huge screens at the Palace was a right riot.
Harry, of course, was just grinning as he had seen them all before and knew just what to expect.Lucius, because he was fairly unflappable and saw this as just another fancy dress charitable function, was taking a more stoic approach to the whole endeavor with trying to decide just what to wear and what would do best to win as, when Harry found out that one of the prizes was the entire CD collection of Queen's music, the young man was more determined than ever to win this.It was the rest that were just downright hilarious to see.Remus—well, his husband, though not a Pureblood, had very limited interaction with anything Muggle, aside from food and clothing. Music and their other 'arts' were beyond him. So, his introduction to the flamboyant Freddie Mercury had caused a stunned and stammering reaction that left the man wide-eyed, not sure what to make of not only the videos, but some of the lyrics to the songs. He had been fine with the first one they had seen, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, as the blend of music, though odd, was a good one without some of the more strange bits. In fact, Remus was rather impressed with how complex and well put together the song was. After that—it went downhill and poor Remus didn't know what to make of any of it or how to comment on what he was seeing, just seeming to only manage to stare at the screen shaking his head, mouth agape. Then there was Black—Severus was about dying there. The man had been blindsided by what was in those videos and how Freddie had dressed. Stammering and stuttering at the outrageous outfits, not to mention how revealing they were when it came to so much, the man was just shaking his head. It grew worse when Harry made it clear they couldn't use the more 'normal' outfits as 'everyone would be doing that', so they were going to go for the more complex, outrageous ones. By then, Black was making noises that could only be termed squeaky, vetoing, loudly, some of the more outrageous ones. Oh, this was a laugh riot! He was sure if Harry wasn't so enthused about this whole project, the man would have backed out and ran as far away in the opposite direction as he could. Finally, there was Narcissa. Lucius had brought her along to see if she could help. After all, she was one that was big when it came to charitable work. They had explained, before the videos had started to run, that it would involve dressing up in costume. She was all for this and more than willing to help, especially when it came to Harry and Lucius needing to wear a mustache, something they weren't sure how to go about. By this point, though, she was reduced to having both hands clapped over her mouth to muffle the laughter at the idea of the three dressing in some of these outfits. In fact, Severus was damned certain he had seen a few tears escape over some of them when Harry suggested their use in winning, especially the red feathered one from “It's A Hard Life”. The poor woman was heaving with laughter and unable to show it.After the videos switched to another artist, for at least a few minutes, Severus looked around, completely amused, and asked, trying to keep a level tone, “So, which outfits, aside from what Harry picked, are you going for?”Rubbing his eyes at what he had seen with “I Want To Break Free”, Remus shook his head then asked, voice slightly uneven, “Are you sure about dressing that way, Harry? That is—well, I get the reason they did such a thing, but it's still strange.”“Oh yes,” Harry told him with a grin and a firm nod. “Several will probably do that, I bet, but I don't think it'll be a good idea for me to go with some of the more revealing ones that might work.”Eyes widening a bit, Remus looked at Severus, seeing a pleased look there. That was a major step with Harry. The young man, because he was so well versed in protecting himself in so many ways, sometimes didn't think about what he did with some matters. His manner of dress, sometimes, was part of that. If he was even taking that into consideration, it meant what all of them were doing with the young man was working. That ended any protest he had over Harry dressing in drag. Even though the 'drag' was slightly revealing, it was campy enough in nature that it offset the being overtly sexual. “Yes, I can see that,” he finally said with a smile. “It will look quite outrageous on you.”Not commenting on that part, though pleased with it, Severus asked, “What about the other two outfits? Any ideas there?”“Well, since Lucius isn't the chicken Sirius is about this,” Harry grinned and gave Sirius a good-natured nudge with his elbow, “I say the red feathered thing from “It's A Hard Life”. It's not a hard costume to make, honestly, and he has the hair for it. We'll just do that color changing whatever with it and it'll be perfect!”“I can go with that,” Lucius said, smugly. “Narcissa can help, of course, especially with the hair.” Looking at his wife, he huffed at her state, though amused by it, shaking his head. “Woman, your suggestions here would be helpful. Sitting there having a right laughing fit isn't! Get with the program. We need your input!”“I'm trying, I really am,” Narcissa managed to garble out, swiping at her tearing eyes. “Just the thought of you three dressed up in some of those outfits is enough to give me visions that are hilarious!” Shaking her head, trying to sober up, she let out a few more muffled chuckles before clasping her hands back over her mouth.Huffing again, rolling his eyes, Lucius shook his head, knowing a lost cause when he saw it. “As Harry and I have our costumes down, we need to worry about Sirius. What one will we go with there?” He asked, looking at the man.Still wide-eyed over what he had just seen, Sirius cleared his throat and said, shaking his head, “Here and now I'm stating no body suits, ballet pants or some of those damned shorts! Oh, hell no! I am not going out of the house dressed like that!” Elbowing the laughing Harry, he said, “We'll find something else, but I have no clue what that might be. That—that—some of that—damn! The man went on stage dressed like that!”“He did. Freddie was very much an extrovert that was the consummate showman,” Severus told him smoothly, trying not to snort in amusement at Black's reaction.“That goes beyond extrovert into downright strange!” Sirius told him, still wide-eyed. Looking at Harry, he said, “Let's just go with one of the leather outfits and call it good.”“Everyone will be doing that 'cause it's easy,” Harry protested, looking at him. “We need to do some of the more outrageous ones. How about this; that bit from “Killer Queen”. It's strange, I admit that, especially the fur coat, but it's not at all revealing. I'm sure Miss Cissy has a fur coat she can loan you that looks close. It's just an outdated getup is all, from the '70's.” Nudging Sirius, he grinned at him then added, lowering his voice, leaning closer, “I like the leather outfits, though. You can wear those anytime and I'll definitely appreciate them.”Rubbing his eyes, though grinning at the compliment, Sirius thought it over then nodded. After all, that was about the least revealing of some of it and he could work with what was there. “Okay, that I can do, despite the nail varnish on one hand.” Looking at his cousin, whose shoulders were still shaking with suppressed laughter, he asked, “Do you have some kind of ancient fur coat that's even close to that I could wear? The pants—I don't think those are a problem as we can make those out of an old white pair we find somewhere.”“Actually, I do,” Narcissa managed to stammer out, swiping at her eyes once again. “One of mother's old coats is about that style. We'll have to enlarge it, of course, but it's almost an exact match. It's something we can work with, I believe.” Looking around, trying to keep herself under control, she managed to say, sounding somewhat normal, “I can give technical assistance on other parts, like the hair for Lucius and makeup for Harry. The mustaches—those I think the spell for artificial eyelashes will work quite well. They'll stay on and it'll be easy to remove later.”“Good! Yes, that will work,” Lucius said with a nod. “I believe we have a good chance at winning something here.” Leaning back, sipping his drink, he looked smug, liking what they had come up with.Looking at Snape, seeing the sadistically amused look on the man's face, Sirius narrowed his eyes then suggested smoothly, nudging Harry, “I think Remus and Severus should come along as well. We can find them a suitable costume.”“No!” Remus said, wide-eyed, shaking his head, tone slightly panicked. “Ah, no, Sirius, I don't think so. We'll stay home. The loud music alone bothers me, you know that from the last time we came along. Besides, you're going to have fun. That seems dampened with Severus and I around. Just enjoy yourselves without us. We have plenty of catching up to do on various things and a night alone will do us good.”“What Remus said,” Severus seconded with a firm nod, glowering at Black. He just hoped that Harry wouldn't press for them to join. If the young man did, they would cave in, as they always did, and end up joining in. There was no way he wanted to even attempt this.“Naw, they're good. Severus just gets grumbly and complains of a headache when we go out like that. Remus, well, he's lost. We'll have more fun with just the three of us anyways,” Harry said, grinning, leaning against Sirius.Pointing to Harry after the young man said that, Severus nodded vigorously, more relieved. Along with that, he vowed that he and Remus would be finding the young man a special gift for getting them out of that situation. Leaning back, relaxing, he began to ask about the prizes being offered and just what all was involved other than the dressing up.
Glancing at Arthur across the kitchen table, Molly didn't know what to say or do here. Shaking her head, eyes slightly wider than normal, she shrugged when her husband looked at her then glanced back to Albus, James and Lily. This was—oh, she didn't know how to react!
“Albus,” Arthur said, tone quiet and cautious, “I don't think anyone is going to react well to finding out you lot aren't dead. So much has happened since that time that many will be downright furious.” Glancing at Lily and James, then back to his wife, he added, softening his voice, “I don't think Harry is going to react well at all to this. It's—no, I think you need to leave the situation alone for a time and not show yourselves.”“It will be fine,” Albus soothed, patting Arthur on the arm. “We knew Petunia wasn't the most loving of people, but she would care for her nephew fine. He may not have had the loving home that James and Lily could have provided him, but he will be a good lad.”
Shooting his wife an almost panicked look, Arthur looked around then asked, “Didn't you follow anything that went on here? Like in the papers?”“No, we didn't,” James sighed. “Albus thought it best not to as it would have looked odd for us to get British papers where we were. And they didn't carry much news from here in the papers in Argentina.”“Oh, Merlin,” Molly mumbled, clasping her hands over her mouth, staring, wide-eyed.“Harry will be a bit miffed at being left the way he was, but he'll be fine after a few fits of temper. Besides, with Minerva being Headmistress at Hogwarts, he would have plenty to level out whatever the Dursleys may have done. I'm certain that the lad has made plenty of friends at school.” Albus smiled, taking a sip of his tea.Stammering, Arthur looked around then groaned, rubbing his eyes under his glasses. “Albus, um—well, Minerva isn't Headmistress at Hogwarts. Filius is Headmaster and Pomona is Deputy Headmistress. Minerva was relieved of her post and only retains her teaching job after it was found out that she was there when you dropped Harry on the doorstep.”Brow furrowed, looking at the man, Albus asked, “Why in Merlin's name would they do that? We left a note with him. They were his only family, after all. We knew it would take time for Sirius to clear his name, so that was the best option.”Hearing another muttered 'oh, Merlin' from his wife, Arthur took his glasses off and began to polish them while shaking his head then explained, softly, “Sirius was sent to Azkaban for twelve years without a trial for James and Lily's murder. They released him when they finally caught Peter. Minerva—Albus, the Dursleys never found Harry on their doorstep. A Muggle drug addict stole him off the step and sold him to a child sex ring. Harry was in that until about a year and a half ago.” Stopping, he slipped his glasses back on and glanced around to see the stunned, sick looks on the faces of the three around the table.Sighing, he said, “Harry's never been to Hogwarts. He can barely read, let alone do things like math. There are serious issues there that Remus and Severus are trying to overcome with him. Sirius is helping as well. Last year, Remus and Severus adopted Harry. What that young man—Harry has problems, Albus, big ones. No one, anywhere, is going to react well to you showing back up. I believe the phrase used by many, from Sirius to Remus to Severus and many others, is that if you were still alive, they would kill you with their bare hands for what you did to the young man. I very much doubt you're going to get anywhere with them or get anything out of Harry. In fact, I'm damned sure that you three are probably going to have legal charges leveled against you.” Stopping, he looked around and waited for the reaction to that. Then, honestly, he wanted them out of his house and to never see them again. No, he wanted nothing to do with them or whatever they were planning.Smoothing down his beard with a shaking hand, looking across the table at the trembling James and tearful Lily, Albus asked, “How bad is it?”“We don't know,” Arthur said, shaking his head. “What was in the papers after he was found was plenty sickening. We know that wasn't the worst, as they couldn't print the worst of it and said that. And, quite frankly, I don't want to know how bad it was. What was there was nightmare inducing to read.”“I think we're going to need help catching up with what went on while we were gone,” Albus sighed, shaking his head. “Can the two of you get your hands on the papers for us?”“No,” Molly said firmly, shaking her head. A glance at her husband told her he was behind her all the way, so she pushed on, “We're not going to help you, Albus. No. This—leave that poor young man alone. He's troubled enough. From what we understand, he's finally doing better and is in a more stable place, so he doesn't need this. We—no, Albus. We have enough problems that we're not going to get involved in this. I understand what you're telling us about He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, but we aren't going to help this time. Our daughter,” stopping, voice hitching, she then stiffened her spine and pressed on, “our daughter died her first year at Hogwarts when she was possessed by the spirit of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named because of a diary someone sold us. Ron, our youngest, has yet to recover from that and has issues of his own because he desperately tried to help her, but failed. Fred and George—they blame themselves because they showed her the diary as they thought she would like it. Percy has left the family and is distancing himself from us. No, Albus, we need to take care of our own right now. We can't be involved in this. You need to find someone else.”Not sure what to do here, Albus nodded. “I understand,” he said softly, trying to think what to do. “I had no idea so much had taken place. I assumed there would be issues, of course, but this—no, this wasn't something we expected. We'll leave you out of it and get help from another area.”
After the trio left, Arthur looked at his shaking wife and said, “What do we do? I know he doesn't want anyone to know they are back, but Severus, Remus and Sirius need to know so they can prepare for what's to come.”
“They need to protect Harry and warn him,” Molly said firmly. “I know what Albus is saying and what it could mean for all of us, but there is a young man with more problems than most know what to do with that needs to be shielded from the worst. We need to warn them, Arthur.”Nodding, Arthur stood and said, “Let me try to Floo Severus and Remus. If I can't get through that way, I'll go over there. I just hope they're home or I can get in contact with them another way before this hits.” Seeing his wife nod, he hurried off, wondering if he shouldn't get in contact with a few other people as well. This was going to end badly.

Again, some notes--
This is the video of It's A Hard Life--

The hair part I'm referring to is a little later in the video where it's long.
And this is the video of Killer Queen--

If you look on YouTube, you'll find plenty of videos of Queen. Freddie was, indeed, quite flamboyant and wasn't afraid to wear something very strange and revealing!
