Hogwart School Of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Albus Dumbledore sat behind his desk looking over the new school list for this year. Two names stood out for him Harry Potter and Rose Potter. It had been nine years since he had left the twins on the doorstep of their relatives. Dumbledore had hoped that this had been long enough to leave both twins broken and meek, easy lap dogs for him to control. The Potters were a very important family in the magical world. They had a lot of wealth and a lot power. Something the twins could never discover until it was too late. Dumbledore smiled thinking of his excellent plan in forcing Sirius away from the twins. The dumb mutt had got himself caught after cornering Peter. Dumbledore had then used his influence to make sure Sirius could never tell anyone of what had happened. He had sent him straight to Azkaban, at least now he was out-of-the-way for good. Dumbledore used a quick tempus spell to check the time with his wand. He was surprised how late it was. Minerva should have been back by now. Dumbledore had not wanted Minerva taking the twins for their school supplies, he felt she had been too close to Lily and James, and no doubt would try to be a grandmother figure to both twins. She had already insisted on a number of occasion for him to pay a visit to the Dursley to make sure the twins were being looked after, and too stop the old bag complaining Dumbledore had promised her he would. Of course he never did. Just then the fireplace turned green and Dumbledore watched Minerva step out. Immediately he decided to use his grandfather persona.
"I trust you had a lovely time, and both twins are okay?" The twinkle in the headmaster eyes was bright as ever. However his face slowly started to change as he noticed Minerva was looking straight at him, her mouth firm her eyes sharp.
"Albus I thought you told me those two were being looked after. I was disgusted when I arrived at the Dursley. Both were dressed in rags and both were a few stone lighter then they should have been. Not to mention the relatives themselves. Those two have been shown no love in that house. Were you aware that they both had to share a bed? I had to use my wand to tidy them up a little, they both looked a state when the came out of the house."
Albus frowned, this is exactly why he didn't want Minerva taking the twins to the alley. She was too close to Lily and James and already had a soft spot for the twins, so she would immediately noticed if they had suffered a hard life. Dumbledore had wanted Hagrid to take them, the half giant was so dumb that he wouldn't had even noticed the small little details Minerva had.
"Minerva I assure you both twins have come to no harm in that house. True they may have had to live a hard life, but what do you expect from a muggle family who main bread winner brings home so little money. The house is only small so it was more then likely the twins would have to share a room."
Minerva growled as she looked at the headmaster. All that might have been true about them sharing a room, but certainly he did not expect them both to share a bed not now both children were getting older. Minerva then remembered what the director had told her, Dumbledore had been helping himself to the Potter's gold so that he could give some to the Dursley for the twins upkeep.
"That is all well and good Dumbledore, or have you forgotten the money you gave the Dursley each month for the upkeep of Harry and Rose."
This had the headmaster confused, what money? "Excuse me Professor but could you just explain that statement. I wasn't aware that the Dursley had received any money, what made you come to that conclusion?"
Minerva was livid, if the gold Dumbledore had been taking from the vault was not being used on the twins then what was it being used for?
"The Director at Gringotts informed me that you had been making some rather large withdrawals from the Potter's vault while acting as the twins magical guardian. He had assumed the money had been used on the twins, however when he saw them and the state they were in, he decided that you must have used the money for something else. He did say he would be investigating personally."
Dumbledore lounged back in his chair, how had Minerva seen the director? She had both vault keys all she had too do was hand them over to Axehandle and he would have taken the twins down to their vaults. Without even worrying the director of their well being.
"Minerva could you please tell me why you took it upon yourself to see the director, when I gave you direct instructions to just see Axehandle. He would have taken the twins straight to their vaults and that would have been the end of it."
Minerva smiled, it seems Dumbledore plan had hit a little hitch, she was going to take great pleasure in telling him what happened. "Well Albus, I did exactly what you told me to. I went into the bank, walked to the centre counter and presented the Goblin on duty with both Harry and Rose's keys. However the Goblin on duty was not Axehandle and he immediately noticed the state of both twins, also the fact that their keys were not on them, which as you know is serious offence in the eyes of the Goblin, especially when the children in question are the offspring of the Potter family. He took both keys and then told us that he needed to speak to the director. So we spoke to him, and he himself was disgusted with how the twins were presented, and ordered that they be taken to the infirmary and treated for Malnutrition and to make sure they had suffered no other abuse, at the hand of those awful muggles."
Dumbledore was not pleased, Axehandle had promised that he would be on duty today. Now because he was not Dumbledore had the Goblins investigating and taking an interest in the twins, this would not do. However Dumbledore kept his anger in check, after all he didn't want to alarm Minerva anymore then she already was. "I see, did anything else happened?"
Minerva could tell that Dumbledore had not been too pleased, with what she had told him. It made Minerva wondered if he wanted the twins to be weak and meek. After all he had not visited them, and certainly did not care about the conditions they were living in. Minerva decided she would keep a close eye on Dumbledore, something just wasn't right about the old man. For years she had followed his lead without question, but seeing the state of both Rose and Harry, after he had made a promise to check up on them, was really making the professor doubt that Dumbledore had only the twins best interests at heart.
"Well there was two other things. When we walked into Ollivanders, the twins tried many wands however none of them suited them. It was then Ollivander bought out a box which had two identical wands in it and a space where one was missing."
This seemed to grab Dumbledore interest. He knew that there was one set of three wands made and all three Phoenix feathers were from his own familiar Fawkes. He also knew that Voldemort was the wielder of one of those wands. Could it be that the twins wands could be the other two. "I assume that Harry and Rose found the other two wands suited them perfectly?"
Minerva had noticed the change in the headmaster the moment she had mentioned the three wands, before hand it seemed he couldn't careless what had taken place today, now though he was acting differently.
"Yes Albus, they both took the wands and were illuminated by a bright light. Ollivander then tried to explain to them the missing wand of the set had been the one that gave them both their scars. Naturally I intervened before anything else could be said."
Dumbledore was pleased that his deputy had stepped in. Ollivander was a good man, but sometimes he did let his mouth shoot off more than it should have. He did not want the twins knowing of Voldemort just yet. It was still to early for them to learn just who they were dealing with.
"Anything else?"
Minerva thought for a few seconds then looked up. "Well there was one other things, the twins asked who their parents were. Those muggles had told them that Lily and James and died in a car crash, so I put them both right and told them someone had killed them but didn't mention any names. I also told them that I would see them both on to the Hogwarts express tomorrow."
Dumbledore again frowned at this, he had already arranged for someone else to meet the twins. A family that he had a lot of influence on. Their youngest son would be attending Hogwarts this year, and he would be a perfect person for Harry to get to know. The plan was for the twins to be taken to the station and given their tickets then left to find their own way to the platform. Dumbledore had then arranged for the mother of this family to shout a few things that would grab both twins attention, making them both meet the Weasley for the first time. Now Minerva had ruined that plan. However Dumbledore decided to remain quite, he didn't want to give Minerva any more doubt that she could trust him.
"Very good Minerva. Well we have a busy day tomorrow so I suggest we should both retire to our respective quarters. Good night Minerva."
Dumbledore watched as Minerva once again vanished into the fireplace. Once she was gone Dumbledore stay seated at his desk. He needed to make a few changes to his great scheme.
King Cross Station 1st September 1991
Harry and Rose stepped out of the floo onto a train platform, where a bright red steam engine was waiting. Harry and Rose noticed just how busy the platform was, as there were children and parents everywhere. Trunks and other items all dispersed along the platform. Minerva turned to both twin and then handed them their tickets. Afterwards she helped them both onto the train, and helped them find a vacant compartment. She then levitated both their trunks up into the luggage compartment. "Now you two have fun, and I will see you when you get to Hogwarts."
Both twins smiled as their professor left the two of them on the train to discuss what was going on around them. They each had taken out a set of books before having the trunks levitated so at least they would have something to read. Their professor had informed them that the journey was roughly eight hours, so there would be plenty of time for them to read at least two of their books. Harry was reading one on defence and transfiguration, while Rose was reading two on Potions and charms. They had sat there only a little while when there compartment opened up to reveal a girl with bushy brunette hair, and brown eyes.
"Excuse me, but do you mind if I sit in here, the rest of the compartment are getting rather full."
Harry and Rose looked up and then gestured for the girl to join them. Once all three of them were seated the introductions started. The Bushy haired girl decided to go first.
"Thank you for allowing me to share your compartment by the way. My name is Hermione Jean Granger." Hermione extended her hand to each twin, who took hold of it and shook it. It was Harry who decided to speak next.
"Hello Hermione, I am Harry James Potter and this is my twin Rose Lillian Potter. Were first years. Is this your first time too?"
Hermione was speechless, she couldn't believe she was sharing an compartment with the famous Potter twins. Hermione was a bit of a bookworm and loved to read all sorts of things. She had read many things on these two. However the two twins were nothing like she had imagined they would be.
"Yes I'm a first year too. Muggle-born actually." Hermione noticed the confusion written over both twins faces.
"Excuse me but what is a muggle-born? My brother and I have never heard of the term before." To say Hermione was surprised was an understatement. Instead of being rude she decided to answer their question.
"Well you see the wizarding world can be split into three different types of people. You have the pure-bloods, the half-blood and the muggle-borns. You see my family as no ties with magic, so it is very rare for a child to be born to muggles who have the gift of magic. My parents were quite surprised and terrified when I started making stuff happened. However a Lady came around to the house and explained everything to them. To sat they were surprised was an understatement.. Now I believe if I am correct your mother was also a muggle-born, but your father was pure-blood, so in the eyes of the magical world you would be consider a half-blood."
Harry and Rose looked at each other, before both turning back to Hermione. "So does blood play an important part in the wizarding world? I would have thought that if we all have the gift of magic then it would make us all equal."
Hermione thought about what Harry had just said. He was right, they all had the gift of magic so they all should have been seen equal, but what she had read was far from that conclusion.
"Actually yes blood type plays a huge role in the wizarding world. You see most pure-bloods believe that only they should be allowed to use magic, many of them see Half-bloods as inferiors to them. Muggle-borns are not even worth their time, they are the lowest of the low in their eyes. Now the half-blood are completely different, after all having half a parent who is a muggle-born, give them a better understanding then that of a pure-blood. However muggle-borns don't get much say in the wizarding world, as we are considered to be the lowest of the low."
Harry and Rose could see the last bit of information Hermione had provided seemed to upset her, so they both decided to cheer her up. "Well what Rose and I have seem and heard of you so far, is that you are a polite, and friendly girl, and Rose and I would very much like to be your friend. Like I said before we don't really care for blood type. If you are nice to us then we will be nice to you."
Hermione looked up and smiled. In truth Hermione didn't have many friends. She was always top of her class and was considered to be a goody too shoe know it all. This had led her to retreating to the world of books, hence why you was so knowledgeable on subject that she shouldn't be. Hermione noticed that both twins were reading books, this made her feel even better, as maybe these two were just like her.
The three new friends continued to talk about their lives and backgrounds. Soon they heard the steam engine whistle and they all looked out of the window to see the train moving off. Just then the compartment opened once more. This time a boy stood in the doorway. He had ginger hair, blue eyes. "Excuse me could I seat with you all the other compartment seemed to be taken."
The three friends looked at each other than nodded, allowing the boy to move into the compartment. Soon as he had sat down he began to talk. "Hello my names Ron Weasley."
Hermione looked over at the boy before extending her hand, however the boy didn't seem interested in shaking her hand, he was more interested in Rose and Harry. She noticed he was just staring at both of them, and Hermione could see the stare was making both twins uncomfortable. "Excuse me, but don't you know it is rude to stare. After all you have not even asked their names."
Ron looked at the bushy haired girl who had just spoken, he hadn't recalled Dumbledore mentioning anything about another girl being Harry and Roses friend. In fact Ron had been given orders to keep the twins isolated from any company, but his own and his family. After all both twins were going to make his family very rich in the future.
"Well unlike you I didn't need to asked their names, I could already tell from the scar on both there foreheads who they were."
This caused Harry to narrow his eyes. "You may know who we are, but it would have been polite to asked us our names, instead of assuming we were who you thought we were by the scar on both our heads. The fact that we ourself don't even know why we are so well known to the wizarding world doesn't help."
Ron paused and then laughed. "You mean you two have no clue why you are so famous? Where have you two been for the last nine odd years, China. You two stopped He-who-must-not-be-named and rescued magical world from his reign. Even as small children we are taught to idolize you for what you have done."
Rose stood from her seat, fist clenched. "So you think it is funny that my brother and I don't even know why we are famous, and you think it is great that both our parents died by protecting us from this so called person called He-who-must-not-be-named. I can tell you now my brother and I do not want to be idolised, for something we had done as babies. We would swap all the fame and everything else that came with just for both our parents to being alive. Do you want to know where we have been for the last nine years. In the muggle world, cut of from this world and treated as slaves by our relatives. That is where we have been, and seeing how our relatives hate magic, it was very unlikely that they would have told us everything you have said. I suggest you leave now, not only have you insulted me and my brother, but our new friend Hermione too."
Harry could see Rose was close to tears, and he quickly stood up and pulled her into a hug. He allowed her to break down on his shoulder and ran soothing hands over her back, His green eyes flashed as he looked at the ginger head prat who had dared insult both him and Rose, but more importantly had forced Rose to break down like this. "I suggest you leave now! My sister my not hurt you but I certainly would. No one upsets Rose and gets away with it."
Ron gulped, he knew a warning when he heard one. Just looking into those neon green eyes, Ron could tell Harry wasn't joking. Ron had really screwed up his mission. He was suppose to make friends with the Potters not make them his enemy. Quickly he grabbed his trunk and left the compartment. Once he had left Harry sat down and pulled Rose onto his lap and just held her.
Hermione had watched everything, she couldn't believe how insensitive that boy had been. She turned and looked at both twins has they held on to each other. She could tell just by the way they stood up for each other that they loved one another very much. She had also been surprised when Rose had mentioned that they both had been treated like slaves. No child deserved to grow up like that. Hermione decided she would try to find out just what had happened to these two, but now was not the time, after all they had just met. "Harry, Rose are you too okay?"
Harry looked over the top of his sister head, which was now resting under his chin. He just smiled and nodded. The rest of the train journey was uneventful, and soon the train had stopped. Harry and Rose had already changed into their school robes that morning so there was no need to get changed. However Harry left the compartment and allowed Hermione to change. It didn't matter that Rose was in there after all both were girls anyway. Once they were all ready they grabbed their trunks and left the train. The three friends then noticed a huge man calling out to all first years to follow him. Harry, Rose and Hermione stuck close to each other as they were led with the rest of the first years to a small pier with a number of small boats. Harry and the girls climbed into one of them, with another boy who seemed to be trying to keep hold of his toad. Once all the first years were loaded up, the boats began to make the short journey across the lake. Harry and Rose couldn't believe just how big Hogwarts was. The place looked more like a castle then a school, with its tall towers and huge spires. Soon the boats had docked and Harry and the girls disembarked from the boat. They then lined up with the rest of the first years. They were led to a large staircase where Harry noticed Professor McGonagall had been waiting for them all.
"Welcome to Hogwarts. Now in a moment I will take you into the great hall, where you will be sorted into your houses. They are Gryffindor, Huffle-puff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Now why you are here, your house will be your family. Any good deeds will earn you points, any rule breaking and you will lose points. The house at the end of year with the most points will win the house cup. Now the sorting hat ceremony will begin momentarily."
Harry and Rose then watched as the professor left them to walk into the hall. Suddenly they heard the voice of a boy talking about them.
"So the rumours are true. The famous Potter Twins have come to Hogwarts." Harry and Rose turned and noticed a blonde hair boy was pushing his way through the crowd to get to them. Once in front of them he sneered. "This Grabb and Goyle and I am Malfoy, Draco Malfoy, heir to the Malfoy fortune."
Harry and Rose could already tell that they were not going to like this boy. He was too full of himself, however it is what the boy said next about Hermione that finally made up their mind.
"Who are you, Oh I see your one of them, a Mud-blood." There were gasp as the word had left the boys mouth. Harry then noticed he extended his hand towards him. "You don't want to be seen hanging with the likes of them. Their scum and will only drag you down. I can show you the right sort to mingle with."
Harry smacked Draco hand away, his eyes glowing green once more. "I don't give a damn who you are, Hermione is our friend, and we would rather have her company then yours."
Draco eyes narrowed, he then growled. "You regret that Potter! Mark my words, you will regret the day you refused to join me and my friends."
Just as the confrontation was going to get more heated the first years noticed Professor McGonagall stood by the stair once more. "Mr Malfoy that word is not to be used in this school. All are welcome here so soon as you are sorted that will be 20 points from your house. Now the rest of you follow me please.
Harry and Draco stood a few more seconds looking at each other. Finally, the turned back to their present company. Harry noticed Rose had taken his hand in support and Hermione had taken the other hand. He could tell by her face that the word Draco had called her, hurt her deeply. Harry decided not only was he going to protect Rose but Hermione as well. The three friends then walked through the huge doors and into the great hall. On either side of them were two huge long tables. Harry and the girls looked to the front where they could see an old tatty hat, now sitting on an old stool. They noticed Professor McGonagall walk towards the hat and then picked it up holding a roll of parchment in her hand.
"Now when I call your names. You will step forward, I will then place the sorting hat onto your head and you will be sorted into your houses. "Hannah Abbott!"
Harry and the girls watched as all the other first years stepped forward. Finally it was Hermione turn. Harry and Rose squeezed her hand in support as she stepped up and had the hat placed on her head. Harry noticed the hat was just sitting on Hermione head.
With Hermione and the sorting hat
"Ah yes Miss Granger, a talented mind I see, but what's this you also have the bravery of a lioness. Hmm interesting where to put you. I could see you would do very well in the house of Knowledge but you would also do very well in the house of the brave and courageous. Ah what's this so you have already made friends with the Potters. In that case you better be.
Harry and Rose waited while their friend was sorted into her house. Suddenly they heard the hat roar. "Gryffindor!"
Harry watched Hermione walk over to the far table before taking a seat and looking at both him and Rose. It was clear that she was hoping we would get sorted into the same house. Next was Draco who didn't even need to put the hat on as it shouted Slytherin. Then it was his and Rose turn. However when they were called they noticed the hat open its mouth once more.
"Professor as they are twins, I will sort them both at the same time." Professor McGonagall was shocked, but she allowed both Harry and Rose to step forward. She then placed the hat on their head, which suddenly enlarged so it could cover both of them.
With Harry and Rose and the sorting hat
Ah the famous Potter twins at last. Now lets see just where to put you. Hmm interesting you both have the thirst to entered the house of knowledge, but you also have the bravery of a lion, and you also have the traits of a Slytherin, not to mention the loyalty of a badger. Oh my this is a tricky one. Hmm in this case as you suit all four houses I will allow you to choose."
Harry and Rose looked at each other before both nodding. "We would like to be sorted into Gryffindor please." They heard the hat chuckle.
Yes that is not surprising seeing how your first real friend is also in the house, very well you two will be sorted into..."
Albus Dumbledore sat stone faced as he watched the two Potters sorted. He was surprised to see that Mr Weasley was not with them, but instead a bushy haired witch. Dumbledore was also shocked that the sorting hat wanted to sort both twins at the same time. He had ordered that the twins be separated, however it seems he wasn't going to get his wish as he heard the hat shout out.
"Gryffindor!"
Dumbledore frowned as both twins walked over to the lions table and sat right next to the witch they had been standing by. At least he was thankful it had been Gryffindor they had been sorted into , had it been one of the other three houses then it would have made it that much harder for Mr Weasley to complete his mission. Finally the last student had been sorted. Dumbledore stood from his seat to begin is yearly address.
"Firstly I would like to welcome you all to Hogwarts. If you are returning then I welcome you back and if you are here for the first time then I welcome you to the most prestige school in the entire wizardy world. I only have a few announcements, the first is for students to know that the forbidden forest is out of bounds, also that the third corridor on the left on the third floor is also out of bounds. Our caretaker Mr Filch as reminded me also to inform you that all prank items and the use of spell fire is not permitted in any of the school corridors. Now I believe you have waited long enough and now please enjoy the feast."
Harry and Rose eyes widened as all the food suddenly appeared on the table. They had never seen so much. At least they knew they were not going to starve here. The two twins began to fill their plates and tuck into their evening meal. After they had all eaten Harry and Rose looked to the front and noticed the headmaster had stood up once more. However when the locked eyes with one of the professor sitting at the table they both felt a small pain in their scars. Hermione had been watching the two of them closely.
"Is everything okay you two?" Harry and Rose looked to Hermione and then just nodded. However in reality they were far from okay. That had been the first time, their scars had ever hurt them, and both twins were determined to find out why.
They listened to the headmaster explain what was going to happen next, and Harry, Rose and Hermione followed their prefect out of the great hall and towards a huge high room where there were different staircase all moving around. They listened as the prefect told them about the stairs changing ever so often, so it was best to make sure they left for class in plenty of time. They climbed the stairs right to the top where they were confronted by a portrait of a rather fat looking woman. Harry and Rose were most surprised when the painting came to life and asked the prefect for a password. Harry and the girls made a mental note of the password as they were allowed in. They stepped into a huge common room littered with gold and yellow everywhere. Right in the middle was huge roaring fire. Harry and the girls then listened as the prefect instructed them on where their dorm were. He then left them to settle in.
Later that night as Harry was tucked up in his nice new bed, he couldn't but help feel alone. This would be the first time in nine years that he would have a bed all to himself. Harry had spent most the evening getting to know is dorm mates. unfortunately Ron had been sorted into Gryffindor so he too was sharing the dorm. Harry had ignored the red head, what he had said on the train still made him angry. Suddenly he noticed the dorm door creak open. Most of his other dorm mates had their curtains drawn so only he could see who was at the door. He was surprised to see it was Rose. He watched a she crept up to his bed, and whispered.
"Harry I don't like sleeping on my own. It feels weird and I can't get to sleep. Is it okay if I stay with you."
Harry smiled and pulled the quilt back, he then watched his sister climb into the bed, and snuggle up close to him. Harry decided that they could get in serious trouble if they were caught, although they were brother and sister, Rose was still a girl and boys and girls sleeping together was forbidden. So Harry climbed out of bed and pulled the curtains around his bed. He then climbed back into bed and wrapped his arms around Rose who had already fallen a sleep snuggled up close to him.
A/N: There you go so they have been sorted into Gryffindor. They have already made friends with Hermione, and already made an enemy in Ron and Draco.
