Harry Potter and the Shadow of Evil
Author’s Word:You didn’t think I’d leave you hanging, did you? I thought I’d wait a couple of days before I posted another chapter; give the story a chance to develop a fan base, see what the reviews say, etc..
Out of all the chapters that will be added to this story, this one was the absolute hardest to write, in terms of plot.

Anyway, enjoy.
Chapter 2:Albus Dumbledore, the Headmaster at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, looked around the Dursley residence horrified. Blood was everywhere… all that was left of the Durleys were piles of chewed-up body parts, rancid with the smell of decomposition. Worst of all, the place was so saturated with Dark Magick that it was almost strong enough to make Dumbledore’s head spin… almost.
Young Harry was lying in the center of the room, naked, and completely unconscious. Dumbledore had tried to pry into the boy’s mind in order to uncover what happened, but a very powerful force quickly pushed him out. Dumbledore’s calm demeanor was starting to crack; no one had ever been able to stop him from reading their minds… no one but Voldemort, that is.
Dumbledore looked around for runes and other magicks that could’ve been used; he found nothing, but he knew… he knew for certain that a very evil magick did this, and he knew that this was the same magick that was blocking him from young Harry’s mind.
After contemplating what to do, he decided that the best course of action would be to completely disillusion the house with the most powerful charm he could muster, and to take the boy back himself. The rational side of Dumbledore suspected that this was Voldemort’s work, but he also couldn’t help but suspect that, somehow, something far more evil than Voldemort was behind this. He would keep such thoughts to himself.
For now, what is important is that Harry is safe and unharmed. Dumbledore, should anyone ask, would place the blame on the actions of a few left over Death Eaters, the Wizarding World will have its savior, and everything will go according to plan.
*---------------
Harry was on cloud-nine; the force inside his mind was caressing him gently, whispering something he couldn’t understand into his ear. He didn’t know who or what this presence was, but he didn’t really care. His mindscape was dark, and he was at peace with his… companion. That’s more than enough.
(You did well, childe.)
The presence said, stroking Harry down the length of his body. Harry shuddered at the immense pleasure this brought on; how can something this simple feel this good?
(But now it is time to wake up.)
Harry suddenly felt himself being pulled out of his mindscape, and the next thing he knew, he was waking up in a strange bed.
*----------------
Dumbledore waited eagerly for the news that young Potter awoken at last. The boy had slept for more than four days; Madam Pomfrey had to magically transfer water to him in order to make sure he stayed hydrated. It is a miracle that the boy was unharmed, considering the ghastly incident that took place at the Dursleys. It couldn’t have been Death Eaters… if that was the case, why wasn’t Harry taken or harmed? Or perhaps this is all part of a larger plot by Voldemort.
The magick in that place was far more evil and dark than anything he’d ever felt before… remembering it sent a slight chill down his back. Dumbledore was taken out of his thoughts by a knock on his door.
“Enter.” He spoke, loudly but calmly. An elderly woman entered the room, slightly panicked.
“Albus, what happened!? Why is Harry Potter here in the medical ward!?” She was shaken; to the true extent, she kept to herself, but Albus Dumbledore knew how badly this had affected her.
“Minerva, I am afraid the Death Eaters found a way to penetrate the wards I had set up long ago. How I am unsure.” Dumbledore said, sighing as he sat behind his desk. Minerva McGonagall looked on with a pleading expression.
“When I arrived there, the sight was horrible. The Dursleys had been slaughtered, to such an extent that all that remained of them was a pile of decaying remains… Harry was unharmed however. I found him lying amongst the death and filth naked and unconscious.”
Minerva was horrified by the news. “Albus, does this mean that…”
“I am afraid so, Minerva… he is back.”
Minerva was shocked and terrified at the implications of You-Know-Who returning… the death and destruction that monster created during his last reign… Minerva closed her eyes, and quickly pushed all thoughts of such aside to return to the issue at hand.
“What are we going to do with Harry, Albus? He surely can’t go back out into the Muggle world if he can’t even be protected by your wards.”
Dumbledore nodded, sighing in resignation.
“We have no choice but to shelter him here at Hogwarts.”
“B-But Albus, what if the Death Eaters come here!?”
Minerva was truly terrified now. If Voldemort has indeed returned, and he is actively pursuing Harry Potter, then not only will he not be safe at Hogwarts, but every child there will be in extreme danger.
“We have no choice, Minerva.” Dumbledore said calmly. “It is risky, yes, but it is far better than any alternative we have on hand at the moment. Here, he will be surrounded by Aurors, whereas anywhere else…” Dumbledore trailed off.
Minerva didn’t like this one bit, but she understood Dumbledore’s train of thought, and was forced to agree with his reasoning.
“Will you be getting the Order back together for added security?” Minerva asked.
“No, for the present I believe that will be a bad idea. If I start to mobilize the Order, then we lose the element of surprise. Right now, it is safe to assume that the Death Eaters do not know that we are aware of their presence. If I were to mobilize the Order now, it might tell them that we have Potter here.”
Minerva didn’t like this at all, but she had learned better than to challenge Dumbledore’s strategizing.
“Harry Potter is of age now, Minerva, and as such, it is time he became a student here at Hogwarts. I will take him myself to get his school supplies, as well as to explain to him what happened.”
“Albus, you don’t mean to tel-“
“Dear no, Minerva. I will lie to the boy in regards to all of that.” Minerva didn’t like the idea of Albus Dumbledore lying to Harry Potter, but she quickly conceded that a lie would be far better than the truth in this instance.
At this moment, news from the medical ward arrived that Harry Potter was awake. Dumbledore motioned to Minerva and they made off quickly for the medical ward.
*--------------------------
Harry sat up and observed his surroundings. The walls appeared to be made of clay, and the portraits appeared to be… conversating amongst themselves? Was Harry dreaming still? No, he wasn’t. He was well awake. He took another look around the room, only to see two figures approach him… both of them dressed in flamboyant outfits. One was an old man, dressed in what appeared to be a traditional Wizard outfit. The other was an old woman, dressed in… a witch’s costume?
“Ah. You are awake I see. How are you feeling?” The old man asked. Harry simply looked at him, and then took another look at his surroundings. “Where am I?” He asked, still looking around as though he were in a haze.
“My boy, I am Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, and this is Professor Minerva McGonagall, and you are at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.” Harry’s eyes widened at the realization that the two people before him were indeed telling him the truth.
“That explains the portraits… for a second there, I thought I was drugged.” Dumbledore and McGonagall simply smirked at his remarks. “You were quite a mess when we found you, Harry.” Dumbledore said, concern in his grandfatherly voice. Harry’s eyes snapped at him, the surprise on his face very obvious.
“How do you know my name?” Harry asked.
“Ah, Harry my boy, we’ve known about you for some time. In fact, you’re quite a celebrity here in the Wizarding World.” Harry’s eyes had a look in them that simply said ‘what in the blue hell are you talking about!?’ Dumbledore, however, ignored the boy’s obvious curiousity and continued on. “Since you are now of age, I’d like you to consider taking classes here at Hogwarts. You’ll meet many children like yourself; children who can do things that other people cannot. You’ve done a few of those things yourself, I’d wager.”
Dumbledore didn’t know how right he was, but Harry let the old man think what he wanted to think.
“As much as I would like to, I am afraid I can’t.” Said Harry. “I don’t have any money, so I can’t pay you.” Albus Dumbledore simply laughed.
“Harry, you have plenty of money, and if you are feeling up to it, you and I can go gather your school supplies here shortly. You and I have much to discuss, after all, and it would be the perfect opportunity to do so.”
“Really? That sounds good. Just allow me to get dressed.”
“Alright then, my boy. I shall be back shortly.” Dumbledore proceeded to leave.
“I am sure you’ll make a fine addition to our school.” Minerva said, with a genuine smile on her face, as she lightly bowed and followed Dumbledore out.
Harry thought about it for a moment, and then proceeded to get dressed.
*-------------------
Back in the Headmaster’s office, Dumbledore and McGonagall were discussing their first interactions with Harry.
“He didn’t seem that traumatized by what had happened…” McGonagall said in a thoughtful voice.
“Most likely, he didn’t witness any of it. The boy was probably knocked unconscious before it all happened.” Dumbledore said, in an equally thoughtful tone.
“That is concerning me, Albus. If this was indeed the work of Death Eaters, why is Harry unharmed? They could’ve very easily killed him, or at the least, kidnapped him… but they leave, without a scratch, the one who killed their master? It doesn’t make sense to me.”
“It doesn’t make sense to me either, Minerva.” Albus said, responding with a sigh. “But I have no other explanation. The magick at the Dursley’s was dark, Minerva. It was so dark that it sent chills up my spine, even when I recall it. The only ones capable of exerting that kind of evil are Voldemort and his Death Eaters.” Albus said, recalling what he had felt at the Dursley’s; his lip quivering as he answered Minerva’s question.
Professor McGonagall could see the fear in Dumbledore’s eyes, and this made her terrified. Dumbledore was a man who was always calm, who, if he ever was afraid, he never showed it, even when facing off against the likes of Grindlewald and… Voldemort. But this… whatever this was has Albus Dumbledore absolutely terrified.
Dumbledore was the first to break the silent tension.
“Well, we will worry about these things later. For now, it is important that we get Harry ready for school. I will take him myself to get his school supplies.
*--------------------
Harry thought back to the fun that he had torturing and killing the Dursleys… the sounds of their screams, whimpering, crying… Harry felt the thrill run up the side of his neck, causing him to roll his head while holding back a moan.
(I trust you are not foolish enough to tell anyone that you purposefully tortured and murdered those filthy humans?)
‘Of course not. I won’t tell anyone I did it, but I suspect that they will figure it out soon.’
(Yes, but by the time they do, it will not matter.)
Harry was shaken from his conversation with the presence inside of his mind by the presence of Albus Dumbledore. Harry looked back and grinned.
“Harry, my boy, are you ready?”
“Yes sir!” Harry said, nodding his head.
Oh if they only knew what sort of evil they were unleashing into Hogwarts….
