Chapter 3: What now?
James ran back to the house carrying a sobbing Lily on his back; he busts through the front door causing Ginny to curse and jump. She asked James what was wrong but all he told her was that something had happened, Al was gone and Lily wouldn’t stop crying. Ginny ran to the Kitchen and grabbed a calming potion from the cupboard and ran back in less than a moment. After Lily sipped the potion enough to speak, she told her mother what happened as far as she could see.“I saw something shiny; so I went to look and when I turned around a big hairy man was carrying Al away. I ran after, But I wasn’t fast enough” She managed through hiccups and stutters. Ginny hugged her daughter and asked in what direction they went but Lily was too distraught at that point to know. She jumped up and told James to talk Lily to her room; he protested but one look told him for once to keep his mouth shut. As he was picking her up Ginny ran to the phone and called Hermione and explained quickly asking her to call Harry while Ginny phoned the Muggles police.
After a grueling few hours of talking with once officer after another and one ministry official after another Harry was out roaming the surrounding streets with James and Ron looking for any sign of what had happened to his missing child. Ron tried to get Harry to stay at home with Ginny and Lily, but he and James would have none of it. They were both red eyed and weary, but both as determined as anyone.
“I want to check the park again, Dad” James asks, though his voice cracks as he says the words. “I know we’ve already looked but I’d like to.” Harry just nods and they walk back to the park a few blocks the other way. As they got closer to their destination, James noticed something by the hedge that Lily said Al had been carried off behind. They closer they got it became clear that it was an animal. James began to run and saw that it was a puppy, a fluffy little mutt, no taller than James’s knees. He stopped in front of it and looked at the pup in the eyes and it looked at him.
The Little pup whined and pawed at the hedge and gave a howl. Harry and Ron came running up soon after. “Dad this dog keeps pawing this bush, what’s that about?” James moves the pup and is about to reach into the shrub when Harry stops him and does it himself.
“Lumos,” Harry whispers, and the tip of his wand lights up and snagged on a bottom branch is a bit of fabric and a few hairs that look more like furs. As Harry picks them up the pup starts growling and bears its teeth at their find. “It looks like fur. This is very bad. We need to get back to the house and contact the auror office. I think this is Werewolf fur.” Harry got up and began to head back to the house.
James caught up to his dad and uncle holding the pup in his arms. “Dad what should we do with this” He lifted the whimpering dog; “He did point out the fur”
“Bring him then, just don’t let him wet the floor, mum’s got enough to think about.” Harry didn’t know what the little dog knew that they didn’t but he was not going to pass up a lead on his son.
