It took Albus nearly two hours to find Scorpius. After asking Rose if he was in their common room, checking the library, walking through the great hall, and even going to the room of requirement he almost gave up hope. There was only one logical place left, the second floor girl’s bathroom.
Albus slowly opened the door to the bathroom looking around swiftly for Moaning Myrtle who was not to be found. He crept inside and began to search the stalls. In the far back shower stall he found Scorpius. The blond had not heard him come in. He sat on the ground with his arms wrapped tightly around his drawn up knees. His head was lowered and Albus could not see his face.
“Um, hey.” Was all Albus could manage. He lacked grace in his words, fighting the emotions smashing into him as he looked down at Scorpius who seemed so very small in his current posture. They were about the same height. Albus was a little more muscular then Scorpius, but not by much. However, Scorpius had made himself so compacted that it was hard to tell that he was a boy of sixteen.
Quickly, Scorpius raised his head and looked at Albus with blood shot eyes. “Uh, Potter!” He said seeming very startled as he began to wipe his eyes. “I was just um-“ he started as he moved to get up. Albus grabbed him gently by the arm and directed him back into a seated position.
“Albus. Call me Albus. We have been hanging out for six years now, I think we can use first names.” He said with a gentle smile. Scorpius answered with a one sided fleeting smile. Silence followed. Albus had the impuls to find Scorpius, but had not thought about what he would do once he found him. He did not even know where to start. Should he tell Scorpius he knew what had happened?
Before Albus could put the words together, Scorpius spoke. “So did Rose send you?”
“No, I came myself.” Albus said slowly, still unsure what to say.
“Shouldn’t you be playing quidditch right now?” Scorpius asked.
“Yeah.” He answered. “Well I already won. I got the snitch.”
Scorpius smiled up at him and he was instantly warmed. “So why are you not at your party?”
“Well, um, I wanted to find you.” He said hesitantly as he slid himself down the wall to sit next to Scorpius. “I heard Vincent talking in the locker room.” As he finished the sentence the other boys face seemed to lose what color it had, and his smile quickly faded. “He was talking about what he did-“ Albus paused “what he did to you.”
Scorpius’s heart could have stopped in that moment. He wish it would. He would rather die than face this kind of conversation. He looked at Albus, wide eyed and shocked. “I uh, I-“ Scorpius attempted to speak, unsure of what he would even say. He fell silent again.
“Scorpius, I don’t care if you are…I just wanted to see if you were okay.” Albus said as he reached out to hold the other boys arm. Scorpius immediately winced in pain and withdrew from Albus. “Did he do that to you?” Scorpius nodded his head, tears beginning to fall down his face once more.
“What does it matter to you?” Scorpius said running his hands through his hair to touch his aching scalp. “Why do you care if I am okay?”
“I just do. I’m allowed to care about you. I mean we are pretty much friends at this point.” He added the last part weakly. It was a lie, Albus thought of the boy as more than a friend.
“Oh, well okay. Thank you.” Scorpius said smiling a bit.
Albus took a deep breath. This was his chance to put all of his feelings on the table, and so far he was doing a horrible job. “Actually, Scorpius, I was really mad when I heard Vince saying what he had done to you. I told him he was disgusting.”
Scorpius just looked at him in stunned silence. He looked so fragile right then. Albus could not help himself. He slid closer to the other boy and put his arms around him. Scorpius became rigid. Albus sensing his nervousness at the physical contact spoke. “It’s okay Scorpius. I’m not going to hurt you. I want to be here for you right now. I need to be here for you.” He said, shocked by his own honesty. He had never even admitted his feelings to himself, and here he was on the floor of a bathroom hugging Scorpius Malfoy. His brave honesty worked; Scorpius lowed his head to rest on Albus’s shoulder.
They sat in silence like that for a long while, neither one sure what was going on, but enjoying it all the same. Scorpius relaxed into Albus’s side. Albus looked down at the blond boys head. He could see blood stains in the pale blond hair. That must have been where Vincent held onto him while he violated the boy. “I’m sorry I was not there to stop him.” Albus said.
“You would not have been able to. He is too fast and too strong.” Scorpius replied.
“I still would have tried.”
“Thank you.”
Albus bent his head down and pressed a light kiss on the outside of Scorpius’s bruised scalp. The action was automatic, and if felt right to Albus. He brought his hand under the other boy’s chin and, gently as to not irritate the bruised skin there, he lifted his face towards his own. He moved forward and softly kissed Scorpius’s swollen lips.
“I don’t understand-“Scorpius said after separating from the languid kiss.
“I have had feelings for you for a long time now. I just don’t think I realized it until Vince did those things to you.” Albus answered. If he was any more honest, he would have to change his name to Saint Potter. Scorpius looked up at him with an unreadable expression. Albus became very nervous in the silence.
“I don’t understand what is happening.” He repeated.
“I like you Scorpius. I care about you as more than a friend.” Albus rushed to clarify.
“But- but you are not even gay. Are you? I thought you were with that Winters girl last year.”
“Yeah, I was, and I thought she was pretty. You are the first boy I-“
“I’m the first boy you have ever liked?” Scorpius said completing the sentence for him.
Albus thought for a good while. Scorpius was not just the first boy he liked, he was the first person that he felt like he would kill for. He would do anything to keep this boy safe. His feelings were beyond his understanding.
“You mean more to me already than anyone ever has before. I don’t really understand my feelings. I usually don’t think about them.” He admitted.
“It’s okay.” Scorpius said with a real smile. “So much has happened to me in the past few days I’m disoriented as well. But this,” he said as he took Albus’s hand “I know this is really great.” Albus let out a small laugh.
“I want to stay here with you forever.” Albus admitted “But people will wonder where I’m at if I don’t get to that party eventually.” Scorpius nodded his head in understanding. “I’m going to walk you back to your common room first.” He was afraid that Scorpius would meet Vincent on his way back.
“I think I’m going to tell Rose. Not about us, but about Vincent.” His eyes began to fill with tears once more.
“It will be okay.” Albus said as he helped Scorpius up and pulled him into a hug.
Together they walked to the Ravenclaw common room, pausing outside the portal to look around for onlookers before stealing one last kiss.
