C is for Crying
When he first woke up, he didn’t realize he was awake. He couldn’t see or hear anything. Everything was white. So naturally he assumed he was dreaming of sleeping. When he woke up a second time, he realized he was awake. He couldn’t see or hear anything. From what he could feel, his ears and eyes were still whole, but they were useless to him. The horrible stench of antiseptic potions alerted him he was in St. Mungo’s. He wasn’t sure what he shouted, but it must not have been pleasant when several hands came down on his body. After he was forcefully given a calming potion, Draco fell back to sleep. The third time he woke up, his mother was there. He recognized the scent of her perfume and could feel the familiar ring under his hand. He sat up in the bed, his body sagging in relief when she sat beside him and hugged him. Draco could feel her vibrating so he knew she was saying something to him. He just didn’t know what she was saying. He waited until his mother left later in the day to curl up in his bed, bury his face in his pillow, and sob. While he had sat with his mother, it had all come back to him. He had been out in Diagon Alley, picking up something for Minister Shacklebolt, when his Uncle Rabastan appeared. He was one of the few Death Eaters not caught after the War.He had lasted a few minutes against the man; everyone else – the cowards – had fled. A sickly orange-yellow light had struck him and then everything went white. The curse, whatever it was, had taken his sight and hearing from him. Realizing he may never hear and see again, Draco sobbed harder into his pillow. He was so deep in his despair he didn’t sense someone sitting down on the bed beside him.Draco’s sobs became hiccups and coughs as the exhaustion set in. As he fell asleep, he swore he felt a comforting hand combing through his hair./……/
He soon found himself trusting one of the Healers. All he knew about the Healer was that it was a male, he was young like Draco, and he stayed longer than the others. The other Healers were working on ways to communicate with him. This Healer was different. In his mind, Draco had named the Healer “Sly.”
Sly was very smart. He had developed a way to communicate to Draco. Holding Draco’s hand palm up in one hand, Sly used a finger on his other hand to trace letters on his hand. He left small spaces in between to help Draco distinguish word from word. It allowed Sly to tell Draco everything. The curse had badly damaged his vision and hearing. The Healers were trying to assess how severe the damage was to both senses. Once that was found out, they would be able to determine how to better help him. Draco adjusted his own voice in volume as Sly helped him figure out how loud or quiet he was. Draco asked him questions. He was the only one he trusted to tell him the truth; to be able to tell him anything.Had they caught Lestrange? Had the man cursed anyone else? What progress was being made in his healing? When could he go home? For every question, Sly had an answer. The Aurors weren’t able to catch Lestrange alive; the man was dead now. Draco was the only one cursed. There was very little progress at this time, but the best team St. Mungo’s had was on it. As for going home, he could leave at any time.“We are not keeping you here. But we can help you better here. The choice is yours.”Sly was right. It was his choice, but he knew the other wizard was right. He would receive the best care here. Plus he wouldn’t be able to navigate the manor without either sense available to him. So he told Sly something he had never told anyone else before.“I trust you.”/……/
“How is father?”
“He is well.”“Then why isn’t he here?”Sly’s hand lay flat in his hand. So his mother didn’t have an answer. When she had arrived for her daily visit, he had asked her to call for the Healer. Seeing as Draco didn’t know the wizard’s name, Draco had described him as the Healer that visited him in the evenings. His mother had apparently been able to locate him as he had come and was serving as a communicator between the two.“I have to go.”Draco knew Sly didn’t mean him. His mother was saying she was leaving. Draco leaned back against his pillow and took his hand back from his Healer. His mother leaned over him to place a kiss on his forehead. Draco waited until he couldn’t sense her anymore. With his missing senses, Draco had discovered he could sense a person coming and leaving by their magic. When he sensed Sly stepping back, the blonde’s hand shot out and caught his wrist. He felt the Healer stiffen in his hold, but he stepped forward when Draco tugged on his wrist.“Can you stay?” Draco asked.Back in the day, it would have been a demanding statement of I want you to stay. But right now Draco allowed his vulnerability to show. He wanted the man to stay, but he wouldn’t force him to stay if he didn’t want to. He let the Healer’s wrist go and let his body sag in the bed. He knew he looked miserable, but he didn’t give a fat rat’s ass who saw at this point. He was surprised when he felt a hand push at his side. Draco scooted over and suppressed a sigh of relief when the other male sat down on the bed. Deciding to take a risk, Draco reached out to touch the Healer. Sly stiffened at first, but then he allowed the blonde to move him to his liking. That was how they ended up with both of them lying flat with Sly resting his head on Draco’s chest. This told Draco that the Healer was smaller than him. He held one hand down to Sly so they could still talk.“Why did you stay?” Draco asked.“You asked me to,” Sly answered.Sly’s head moved up and down with Draco’s gigantic sigh.“You could have said no,” Draco commented, closing his eyes. That was the weirdest feeling. Knowing that your eyes were open and yet you could see nothing but white. He followed the movements on his hand as Sly replied to his comment.“You are sad. I can see you are…”Draco frowned. He missed the last word. It was still hard to decipher longer words when written on his hand.“I’m what?” Draco asked.“L-o-n-e-l-y.”Draco’s body sagged into the bed. The Healer must be a Mind Healer. Although he was never alone, he was lonely. Most of his friends, or what was left of them, had moved to other countries. The Ministry had finally taken him off probationary watch, allowing him to apply for and obtain employment working for the Minister. He still lived at home with his parents at Malfoy Manor.“What’s your name?” Draco needed to know.“Call me Griffin.”Draco smiled. “That’s a nice name.”He took his hand back, indicating he wanted to stop for a while. He felt the Healer give a big sigh before relaxing in his hold. After a few minutes of laying in silence, Draco felt the Healer’s body sag more into him. Draco brought his hand up to the Healer’s face. He smiled as he felt even breaths of air from the other wizard’s face. The poor Healer must be exhausted to fall asleep here in his arms.He brought his hand up to card through soft hair. The hair was shorter than his. His hand paused on the Healer’s forehead. He felt something there, just near the fringe. It seemed…familiar./……/
The day-team of Healers had taken him somewhere. He wasn’t sure where. He was told to sit down in a chair and a pair of earmuffs was placed over his ears. A small, cylinder-shaped item was placed in his hand and his thumb was pressed on the clicker on top. Draco got the biggest surprise of his life when he heard a sound from one of the earmuffs emit. At the same time, the person pushed his thumb down when the sound emitted.
“You want me…to press the button when I hear a sound?” Draco asked. The person patted his arm. He felt them leave the room and shut him in. It was a weird experience. He found he could hear some of the sounds they made in his ears. He had a feeling there was some he wasn’t hearing, but thank Merlin he was hearing something! He didn’t know what was going on until much later when Griffin visited him. The Healer was able to explain what all the sounds and earmuffs had been. They had been testing his hearing to see how much he had lost. According to Griffin, he had a deep moderate to profound hearing loss in both ears.“What does that mean?” Draco asked.Griffin was able to explain that it meant his ears couldn’t pick up speech and other sounds like a piano playing, birds chirping, and someone whispering.“What can be done?” Draco inquired.“A very special procedure. It is the first of its kind. It is based on a muggle procedure,” Griffin explained. He had fewer qualms about its origins being muggle. He was more concerned about the procedure never being done before.“Do you think I should do it?”He trusted his newfound friend and his wisdom.“I think it would help.”He wasn’t sure, but he was willing to bet the Healer squeaked in protest when his wrist was grabbed and squeezed harshly.“Not what I asked,” Draco growled.Unknown to him, the Healer winced. Draco Malfoy had a tough grip when he wanted. He managed to finally pry the death grip off his wrist.“I think you should.”/……/
The procedure took over ten hours with about five hours for each ear. The procedure was a combination of magical and muggle with Healers and Doctors working on him at the same time. The Healers believed there was a good chance this could work, but they also cautioned him that it might not.
“I won’t know if I don’t try,” Draco had told them. After the procedure, he had slept for nearly a day. He woke mid-day the next day with his mother sitting in the chair beside his bed.“Oh, Draco dear. I’m so glad you’re awake.”Draco jolted forward. It sounded a little rougher than before, but he had heard his mother’s voice. For the first time in the two months he had been cursed, he could hear his mother’s voice.“It’s nice to hear your voice, Mother,” Draco said.Narcissa gasped. She lurched forward out of her seat and touched the side of her son’s face.“You can hear me? I must admit I had my doubts,” she told him.Later, the Head Healer came in. Healer Moxley explained everything to him in great detail after his mother left. He had small magical devices attached to the back of his ears. They were magically connected to pieces surgically implanted in parts of his ear to allow him to hear.“You must be aware, Mr. Malfoy, that if you take these devices off, then you will hear nothing. It works much like a muggle device called a Cochlear Implant. Except this is smaller and doesn’t require any power to keep it running,” the Healer explained.“I understand. What’s being done about my eyes?” Draco demanded.“I admit that your eyes are a little trickier, Mr. Malfoy. We’re working on identifying the parts of the brain and your body that are being affected. Now, can I get you anything, Mr. Malfoy?” Healer Moxley asked.“As a matter of fact, yes. Can you send a particular Healer here to see me? He goes by the name Griffin,” Draco said.Healer Moxley paused. “Griffin? …Oh, Griffin! Dear Lord, that boy will be the death of me.”“Meaning?” Draco said.“Griffin is a nickname of sorts. Some of the younger patients here started calling him it. And Griffin isn’t a Healer. Not yet anyway. He’s a Healer-in-Training. I wasn’t aware he had been in here. What did he tell you?” Healer Moxley asked, sounding mildly concerned.Draco scoffed.“He told me enough. Now get him.”“Mr. Malfoy, you should know that he’s-,” “Not here. Don’t make me repeat myself.”A reluctant Healer Moxley departed from the room. A few minutes later, Draco heard a small commotion in the hall.“He is asking for you.”The reply was garbled and he was unable to hear it.“I don’t care what you say! You still have three hours left on your shift. Now get your ass in there!”Draco’s bed jerked a little as Griffin was apparently forcefully tossed into the room. The door was slammed shut behind him. Draco made a sympathetic face as Griffin stood with a groan. It sounded as though the other male’s stomach had collided painfully with the side of the bed.“Did the Healer tell you I can hear again? That the procedure worked?” Draco asked. It didn’t surprise him the Healer…no, Healer-in-Training was silent. Especially considering he knew the wizard’s true identity.“I’m surprised you’re quiet for once in your life. In all our years at Hogwarts, I’ve never known you to be quiet, Potter,” Draco said, smirking.Harry’s mouth dropped open. He hadn’t given anything away and he doubted Mrs. Malfoy had said anything. Although this did explain the huge hug she had enveloped him in prior to her leaving the hospital.“How…How long have you known?” Harry asked.Draco chuckled. “A few weeks now. You fell asleep that one time and I felt your scar.”Harry ducked his head while turning a bright red. He quietly walked over and sat down when Draco motioned for him to sit.“You and I have a lot to talk about, Potter.”/……/
Almost a year had passed since that day when Draco recovered his hearing. While the Healers worked on studying the issue with his eyes, Draco went on to live his life. After he and Potter talked, they decided to keep their tentative friendship going. Draco moved out of Malfoy Manor and into Number Twelve Grimmauld Place with Harry. After only a few months of living together, their friendship turned into more.
“Ugh…Hmm...Ah…Damn, Dray!”Two months ago, the Healers Team and Harry made a break-through on Draco’s vision. They were able to combine old magic and muggle ingenuity in order to restore half of Draco’s vision. He had to wear glasses in order to see at a distance. Everything close up was okay. The only time his glasses did him no good was at night.“Fuck! So tight.”At night, Draco’s vision was quite blurred, but somewhat manageable. He trained with a wizarding specialist on using his magic to see things around him using a form of echolocation. Whenever he was out by himself or working back at the Ministry, no one would ever guess he was hearing or visually impaired. And when he was with his lover…Whine. “Please, Dray!”Draco chuckled. “What’s the matter, Har?”Harry glared up at him. Draco smirked and shifted a little, nudging something inside Harry that made his head fly back and back bow. He smirked at the misery on his lover’s face. He had been drawing it out for a while so he decided to have pity on the poor wizard.Harry screamed as his prostate was pounded on relentlessly. He came with a sharp cry of his lover’s name. Draco felt the walls tighten even more around his member, but he managed a few more thrusts before coming. When he was done, he pulled out and gathered his lover in his arms. He wasn’t surprised the poor Gryffindor was asleep. The man had worked through a triple shift before Draco finally stormed Saint Mungo’s and threatened to sue the whole department if they didn’t let Harry come home. Needless to say, the hospital management wouldn’t be doing that to the Savior ever again. Even with a nap while Draco made dinner, Harry had still looked tired, but hadn’t wanted to refuse the needs of his lover.Draco had drawn out their lovemaking for a good time. He was surprised he hadn’t made the former Gryffindor cry with all the sweet torture he put him through. He pulled up the sheets as he laid down with his lover resting on top of him. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
