Hermione was walking down the hallway. She was wearing her light blue skinny jeans, a white top over it, tucked into her pants. To keep warm, she had a wool jacket on. Her hair was still slightly damp, so she decided to just let it hang loose. Hermione took a deep breath before ascending to the astronomy tower . Her heart was racing. As she reached the top of the tower, she slowed down. Scanning the tower with her eyes before moving on. He was standing with his back to her, his hands tucked into his pockets. His hair waving in the wind. Hermione walked up to him, slowly, and stood next to him. Peering over the edge of the balcony overlooking the lake. It looked beautiful and peaceful even. They just stood there like that, not saying anything, not looking at each other.
“You came” he then said, almost whispered.
“I did” she answered, keeping her eyes fixed on the view, rather than on him. Neither of them knew what to say. Their heads making overtime to figure out what needed to be said.
“What did you want to talk to me about?” he asked, turning his head towards her.
“You were the one who asked me to talk” she commented, not looking at him.
“Yeah, that’s right, I did.” This must have been the most civil conversation they had ever had. He was fingering his sleeves, he looked nervous, acted nervous.
“I don’t know what I was expecting” he finally said.
“you and me both” she answered, still fixating on the reflection of the moon on the lake. He took a deep breath.
“Then why did you come?” he asked, his eyes caught hers as she turned to look at him. The pale moonlight made him look like a statue. He looked beautiful. She shook her head, breaking eye contact.
“I don’t know” she whispered. After a long pause, he whispered back.
“I don’t know why I sent you the message in the first place”. This was the weirdest situation. Two arch enemies, having a civil conversation about basically nothing after hooking up after the mental breakdown of one of both parties.
“Well, if you’re not going to say anything, I’ll be leaving Malfoy” she said before she turned around.
“Don’t call me that” he hissed. She looked over to him.
“What?” her eyes looked at his face, he looked mad, he clenched his fists.
“Don’t call me Malfoy” he whispered.
“Well, that is your given name, why shouldn’t I call you Malfoy?” she asked, poking an angry bear. She couldn’t help it.
“It used to be my name, I don’t answer to it anymore.” He looked at her, is eyes piercing hers.
“Then what should I call you?” she asked, curious.
“Draco” he whispered.
“Okay then Draco, I’m leaving” she said and she started walking away when someone grabbed her and shoved her against the wall.
“What the hell” she hissed. She was pinned down, her back against the wall. His face was only inches away from hers, his eyes digging into hers.
"Did you tell someone?” he asked, keeping his eyes fixed on her.
“No, I didn’t” she spat.
“You can’t tell anyone.” He ordered.
“You can’t tell me what to do, Draco, but don’t worry, I wasn’t planning on it” she angrily responded. “It’s not I want the world to know that I hooked up with my arch nemesis in the room of requirement” she rolled her eyes. He nodded, his face still dangerously close to hers.
“Fine” he said.
“Good” she answered.
His hands were next to her head, hers were against the wall, next to her body.
“Then we’re done here” she stated.
“We are” he answered. But for some reason, neither of the moved, they just stood there, looking at each other. After a while, Hermione started to whisper something. “Draco..” But she never managed to finish that sentence as Draco’s lips crashed into hers. His kiss was hungry, demanding. It didn’t take long for her to answer his kiss. She lost herself in it, forgot where she was and whom she was actually kissing. She felt his tongue run over her lower lip and opened her mouth to let him in. She felt sparks when his tongue touched hers. Her hands snaked around his head and rested against his neck, pulling him closer. Draco broke the kiss, leaving them both panting. He rested his forehead against hers. He then suddenly walked away from her, leaving her alone in the dark tower. Hermione let her head fall back against the stone wall. She took a deep breath. What the hell was happening, why was she kissing Draco Malfoy?
As the portrait of the fat lady swung open, Hermione was met by her friends. Looking at her like everybody had just been talking about her. “Where have you been?” Harry asked. Hermione was taken aback by the way he asked it. “The library, where I always go” she answered. “Don’t lie to us Hermione” she heard Ron’s voice behind her. She turned around to look at the redhaired boy she had secretly loved since the first day they met. She remembered it like it was yesterday. His nose was dirty. The memory made her feel warm inside, until suddenly, it didn’t. It no longer made her feel like she wanted nothing more than to swing her arms around the boy. “I’m not lying, Ronald” she answered. “You are, I just came from the library, I was looking for you” Hermione didn’t know what she needed to say next. For the first time in all their years at Hogwarts, they came looking for her in the library? Seriously, now of all times? “Where did you go, Hermione, what’s going on?” she felt Harry grab her hand, his eyes were full of worry. “Nothing’s going on, I just went to the bathroom before I came here, that’s why you couldn’t find me. Now can we stop with the third degree and start talking about your meeting with Dumbledore?” she tried to change the subject. Harry and Ron exchanged a glance before they nodded and the three of them sat down in the common room. Hermione noticed that Harry had the book of the Half Blood Prince in his hands. “Harry, you have to hand that book in! It’s just no okay anymore!” she scolded him. “It’s just a book, Hermione” he answered. “Now let’s get down to my meeting. Dumbledore wants me to get a memory from Slughorn.”
“A memory, what kind of memory?” Ron asked.
“It’s a memory of Tom Riddle, he had a conversation with Slughorn about something that Dumbledore says is extremely important” he sighed. “We need it to defeat him” he whispered.
“Well, then let’s just ask professor Slughorn.” Hermione said.
“Dumbledore already did that, years ago, but the memory Slughorn gave him was tampered with.” Harry informed them.
“Bloody hell, so it’s not going to be easy getting it then?” Ron noticed. Harry shook his head. “We’ll help in any way we can, Harry, Of course we will” Hermione said as she grabbed Harry’s hand. “We’re in this together, remember?” she smiled as she reached for Ron’s hand. Both Harry and Ron looked at her, slightly confused. “You’re not mad at me anymore?” Ron asked. Hermione smiled. “I’m always mad at you” she said and they all laughed. For a moment it felt like it did before.
