“So who is Henry?” Harry asked Hermione walked ahead of him and Argus uncomfortably close. The all white linoleum title made their footfalls echo despite the distant clamor of wizard activity in the food court.
“You can’t miss him.”
There was a rather heavy-set man dead ahead. His heavily disheveled suit marked him quite clearly as muggle-born. Before the rapid change in propaganda, many muggleborns had no choice but to slip back into muggle society to avoid that nonsense of stealing magic.
Problem was…That didn’t work since the might of the ministry was deployed to “capturing the magic snatchers.”
The man’s blue suit was torn, and he sported a furious scowl next to that rapidly swelling eye. His greasy receding hairline of dark hair nearly overshadowed by a large vein throbbing noticeably. This man was had enjoyed the ministry’s hospitality. A taste of what was to come before being dragged to Azkaban.
Hermione sidestepped, and Argus fell back to a safe distance.
“Henry we don’t have to-“Harry tried to say, but the man was beyond the point of diplomacy.
He snarled. “We’re dueling Mr. Potter.”
Harry sighed and bowed before he held his wand ready.
“Protego” A shield sprang into existence between them. Henry lashed out with a jet of reddish light that dissipated before it connected with the shield charm.
There was a moment of silence. Harry could see Henry’s face go red with rage as a vein pulsed above his eyes throbbed far more noticeably.
“Expelliarmus” His shield charm vanished a moment before a red jet of light struck Henry, and his wand was launched out of his hand. Henry’s wand tumbled, and Harry sprang for it with all the skills of a seeker and caught it.
“I won’t be commanded by a child.” Henry spat.
Henry trembled with rage.
“Reparo” The blue suit repaired itself as Harry pointed his wand at Henry
“Episkey” Henry’s swelling eye slowly returned to its healthy state. The man’s anger visibly turned into confusion. As if Henry was not accustomed to kindness at all.
Thought that Harry couldn’t help but pity the poor man.
Harry offered Henry his wand back handle first.
“You can have your wand back, provided you don’t point it at me.” Harry didn’t make any sudden moves, He just offered his left hand which held Henry’s wand.
Henry didn’t look him in the eye as he snatched his wand back and marched off.
Harry Potter just stood there as Hermione wrapped an arm around him. Harry accepted her hug.
“I don’t think he knows thank you,” Harry muttered as Hermione rested her head on his shoulder for a moment.
“I think you might be right.” She agreed.
“Thank You, Harry Potter,” She said proudly.
The solemn moment endured until they made it back to the food court.
“We have to lock all the doors downstairs,”
Harry stated as Hermione looked over the side. There were a lot of doors. The top level was secure as he locked all the doors with the locking charm.
There was also the matter of that thing Hermione had disabled with incarcerous.
“How about I levitate a couch like an elevator?” Hermione suggested as she pointed to the couches near the destroyed escalators.
“But then how are you supposed to get down there to reinforce the glass of those main doors.”
Before Hermione could respond, Argus answered.
“I can levitate the couch.” Harry nearly jumped.
“Okay. It has to be done.” His emerald eyes caught those brown ones of that handsome bloke.
Harry got off from his chair, and Hermione followed
“Wingardium Leviosa” Argus gave a precise swish a flick as the faux brown leather couch lurched into the air.
Harry swung his leg over the railing when he looked back, and the rest of the food court was looking at them.
Harry just pulled himself over as Hermione followed and the faux leather couch slowly drifted to the ground floor.
Harry and Hermione got off the couch and had their wands at the ready.
“Lock everything in sight,” Harry muttered to dispel the silence if nothing else
“Colloportus”
Harry pointed and the shuttered gates. One by one the shuttered gates gave an odd squelching sound as did every door they could see as they traveled closer to the horrid noise as the dead hammered against the front doors.
Harry looked around continuously. He didn’t want any surprises as he and was grateful that the mall had a second set of glass doors if only to give them a head start.
“Hermione.” She nodded. She began her task. Once the unbreakable charm was placed, it wouldn’t matter if they broke through the first set of doors. “I’ll try to do something about that god awful noise” Hermione bade as she began graceful movements with her wand.
Harry turned and resumed locking every door and grate he could find. All the while dreading what he knew what was close by.
It wriggled and groaned in Hermione’s binds. Yellow jacket over the uniform of white shirt and black pants.
The moment Harry got closer. It screeched horribly and frenzy wriggling in an attempt to reach him.
If the wizard’s bread and butter had no effect on these inferi.
“Incendio” Harry pointed his wand at the fallen remains of the security guard. The fire leaped to alight on the reanimated corpse.
It screeched as the fire burned. It screeched in a manner of a thing that dwelled in cold and dark being forced into warmth and light.
Harry kept his wand ready as he looked around. He saw the blood drops that left a trail. Harry took a few steps as the dead thing finally shuddered still as it continued to burn.
Harry followed the droplets of blood to a narrow hallway. Large black letters in bold black SECURITY. The door was made of opaque glass. The door was ajar, and there was a lot of blood. It was the security office.
“Colloportus” The opaque door slammed shut. Harry would return later. Well someone would return later.
Harry Potter took a step closer to a door. He took a deep breath and chuckled. A bloody hand smacked up against the door.
Harry jumped back his wand at the ready.
The door held as a bloody hand slid down the opaque glass. There was another of those things at the minimum.
There was a soft movement as a breeze made his hair stand on end. There was an unmarked door. A heavy metal door across from the security door. A small plaque read Loading Bay & Storage next to that door.
Harry heard movement. He flicked his wand the locking charm struck that unadorned metal door just as something tried to force its way into the hallway. The metal door forcefully closed itself, and with a reassuring, now familiar squelching sound sealed itself shut.
“Harry, Are You Alright?”
Harry sighed in relief as there was Hermione. Looking worried at him.
“We need to get to the top level. Her brown eyes looked past him to check for danger. They hurried to the faux leather couch, and Harry kept his awareness of his surroundings.
For harry, it took far too long until he swung over the railing to safety. He found a table and sat down.
“Harry what did you see?” Hermione asked worriedly.
Harry grabbed a piece of paper and started writing on it.
“Absolutely, No one goes down to ground level without combat experience. Not if you want to live.”
The food court was silent.
“I need a list from everyone of every spell they know. I’ll start a defense against the dark arts tomorrow.”
The muggle-born survivors hurried off.
Hermione looked at him she wanted to ask so many questions.
He looked into her brown eyes.
“We’ve got to strategize and to create a viable defense plan. These aren’t death eaters. Those horrible things outside. I think they are true inferi. Not puppets made from the dark arts.
Hermione looked at him aghast.
“Fire works against them just fine. “ Harry finished. Hermione crinkled her nose. “Is that why there is that burnt smell?” She inquired.
They now knew of just two spells that worked those true inferi.
Just two.
