If one were to spot Harry Potter walking down one of the main, empty corridors of Hogwarts, they would see a sight that was rather rare, and perhaps something that was clearly out of character for the young teen with what had been happening in the recent weeks.
For one, Harry Potter had a smile so large, that it nearly split his face, and the joy that he was feeling was basically radiating from his person, which could even be as powerful to boost someone elses spirits up. However, the other thing that was noticeable on Harry was the fact that his snowy owl, Hedwig was hovering just above her human, yet even she was looking Happy - if an owl could smile, one would easily say she was doing so - but, another thing might've caught their attention.
Harry Potter was carrying his rather worn trunk behind him, with the wheels making clacking noises against the stone floor that seemed to echo within the general area.
Yet, if one were to ask him where he was going, not only in the middle of the school year, but also when he was a participant of the Triwizard Tournament, all he would say is 'I'm going home.'
"Hedwig, I hope you are excited to begin our new life, with our new mother." Harry spoke out softly, gazing up at his hovering owl. It was clear that he was nervous, but excited at the same time.
It would be the first time that he was actually looking forward to going home - well, when it wasn't to the Weasley's place - and it would be the first time that he wouldn't have to deal with the Dursley's.
He would be out of their life, and they would be out of his life, a win-win for each side, and he was happy with that.
Merely hooting out a response, Hedwig came down to Harry and gave him a little nibble on the earlobe. Although, it was clear that she was feeling rather nervous with the way her amber eyes seemed to shrink in on themselves. It was natural, she was about to move into a new place that had far surperior predators. However, if her human trusted his new family, then she would too.
However, if one were to even think about harming her human in any way, shape or form, then they would have to deal with her, and she wouldn't go down without a fight!
Smiling softly towards his feathered friend, and closest companion, he gave her a gentle tickle under the chin, which made her crane her neck upwards with her feathers poofed out, which meant that she liked the treatment.
To be completely honest, he was very surprised when he came down to the Headmaster's office after Fawkes gave him that letter. He was expecting many things to be said to him when he entered, however, it was a surprise - a nice surprise - to know that Dumbledore actually allowed him to leave to be with his new mother.
Saying things like he needed to allow this to happen, to try and rectify all the mistakes that he allowed that either harmed Harry directly or indirectly.
He even got an apology from the old man! From what he knew, that rarely, if ever happens to someone in thier lifetime!
FLASHBACK
After appearing just in front of the Headmaster's office door - something that is a near regular sight for him considering his terrible luck with things - he was about to knock on the door to announce his presence to the Headmaster, but before he could even move another step towards the door, he was already noticed.
"Enter, Harry."
Hearing the slightly muffled voice of the Headmaster behind the large closed door, he quickly schooled his surprised expression before he gingerly opened the door and headed inside.
He still didn't know how Dumbledore always seemed to know whenever someone was right outside his door. Perhaps it had to do with Gargoyle perched outside the office?
Pushing open the door, Harry was greeted with a sight of Professor Dumbledore reading through multiple pieces of parchment, with various other pieces of gadgets and gizmos littered around the room, and every single portrait in the office was empty, so the occupants of said portraits must be somewhere else in the castle. What was odd was that Fawkes seemed to be nowhere in sight.
However, once he stepped inside the office, Dumbledore placed them down and gave him a grandfatherly smile, "Welcome, Harry." He greeted out, his eyes twinkling lightly, "Please, have a seat." He gestured to the empty seat in front of his desk.
"Thank you, sir." Harry said softly, feeling a little tense in why he was called to the Headmaster's office.
Quickly placing himself in the seat, Harry blinked in surprise when he suddenly felt a lot more calmer than what he was when he was standing up.
"Sherbet Lemon?" Dumbledore questioned, holding a small bowl that was filled to the brim with the muggle candies.
Nodding his head at that, Harry gingerly took one of the wrapped candies from the bowl, "Thank you, sir." He replied, before unwrapping the wrapper and placing the candy in his mouth.
He could see why Dumbledore seemed to be pretty fond of them, they actually tasted much better than what they sounded.
"Now, Harry. It has come to my attention that you and this Hungarian Horntail have bonded in a... unique way." Dumbledore spoke out, after taking a brief pause trying to figure how to word it.
Saying that he used his Parseltongue ability was uneeded, as they both know that was the case. So it wasn't really necessary to open that can of worms.
Feeling his heart sink a little at knowing where this was going, and for the possibility that Dumbledore would deny him of this chance, he softly spoke out, "Yes sir." He said, before quickly adding on, "Apparently she adopted me in a blood adoption ritual, from what I was able to gather."
Leaning back in his chair, Albus almost seemed contemplative, "I see." He merely said, before going silent once again as his eyes dimmed a bit, almost like he was thinking of something, "I'm presuming you got this information from the Hungarian Horntail, and from the Restricted Section in the Library?" He questioned, gazing upon Harry over his spectacles.
"Yes, Professor, but not from the Restricted Section, my new mother told me what she had did." Harry said simply.
Sighing lightly, Albus continued, "I take it that you want to spend time with her, and not at the Dursley's?" He questioned once more, gazing upon Harry once more as he steepled his hands together.
"Sir, please don't send me back to the Dursley's." Harry pleaded to Albus, placing his hands on the table in front of him to prevent him from breaking his own skin, "From the small amount of time that I have spent with her, I have recieved more love from her than in my entire life with the Dursley's."
"I know, Harry." Dumbledore said, gently placing his hands upon the back of Harry's hands, "That is why I had summoned you here."
Blinking in surprise, it was very hard to stop the hope leaking into his voice, "Really?" He said softly, feeling his heart hammer in his chest at the multitude of thoughts running through his mind currently.
"Yes." Dumbledore admitted, before taking his hands away from Harry. Standing up from his seat, Dumbledore started to move about, almost pacing back and forth across the room, "I have made many mistakes with you, Harry. Both knowingly and unknowingly." He admitted, before turning his attention on the boy, "I have come to realise that Alistor Moody is not who you think he is, and he is an imposter, and from what I have gathered, he entered your name into the Goblet." He said, watching for the boy's reaction.
Almost immediately, Harry perked up, his eyes shining in hope, "You mean, I don't have to participate in the Tournament anymore?" He questioned.
Simply nodding his head at that, he ignored the slight cheer that he did, "Since the Goblet is an old artifact, one that possibly couldn't be bewitched under normal means or by any normal person, it is most certain that it locked onto the imposter's signature, meaning that he would be punished by the artifact, and not you." He stated to Harry, before his eyes twinkled again, "That means that you do NOT have to participate, and are free to leave whenever you want."
"Yes!" Harry cheered. In a split second, he was out of his seat, and wrapped his hands around Dumbledore, giving the mightiest of all hugs, "Thank you, sir."
Chuckling lightly at the boy, Dumbledore patted him gently on the back, before placing his hands on his shoulders and making him look up to him. Ignoring the tears that were starting to form at the edge of the boys bottle-green eyes, "Harry. While I am allowing you to be with your new 'mother', can we come upon an agreement for this to happen?" He asked.
Harry in an instant was looking nervous once again at the prospect of what he might have to do.
"It's nothing too serious, my boy." Dumbledore reassured him.
Hearing that, Harry hesitantly shook his head. He would do his best to do what he was told for this agreement, if it meant that he could go with his new mother to his new home in her den.
FLASHBACK END
In the end, Harry had been all too happy with agreeing to the terms that Dumbledore had asked of him if he was going to live with his new mother.
Sure, he still had to keep up with his studies - although, with Potions, he was just reading the theory behind it, and not actually creating them - and he had to remember to visit Dumbledore at least once every month.
While he was only in Fourth Year, Dumbledore had given him different textbooks and tomes for the other years from the classes that he would've elected, which meant Care of Magical Creatures, not only because he was going to be living with dragons, but he had enjoyed the class a lot and had enjoyed learning about the different magical creatures that were out there.
He also decided to go with Ancient Runes, as it had sounded interesting. He had decided to not go with Divination, as not only was that class extremely boring, but it apparently only worked with people who had a gift for that type of thing.
Once his electives had been decided, and the books had been thoroughly picked from Dumbledore's personal collection, he had sent one of the House Elves to place them within his trunk that he would take with him.
He had only asked that he returned the books when he had finished them.
When Harry had asked about how he would return them, he merely told him that Hedwig or perhaps another owl would do, and for his transport, Dumbledore had offered a little trinket that acted as a Portkey, and would instantly transport him to Hogsmeade, where he would then make his way to the castle.
However, when Dumbledore did want him to visit, it would mainly be a little catch-up, making sure that Harry was keeping up with his studies, but also, Dumbledore had offered to train Harry. With the reason for that being in case anything had happened whilst he was out of school grounds, or perhaps if the Death Eaters found him, or if perhaps Voldemort rose once again - he didn't doubt that would happen, knowing his luck.
He had also learnt that whilst Dumbledore was against killing, he had given Harry the knowledge that killing was only necessary if his life was in grave danger. If it was a kill or be killed situation, then he was in full rights to protect himself as best as he could, with any means that he could. His standing as Lord Potter, the only remaining Potter left in the Wizarding World - perhaps there was one that renounced his or her magical blood somewhere in the world, but chances were very slim - and it would be very hard for him to get charged with any crime.
Although, Dumbledore had expressed quite clearly that killing was not something that should be found enjoyable, and should be only used in the most perile of situations.
Shaking his head from those thoughts, he gave Hedwig another idle, gentle scratch on the side of her face, garnering another hoot of enjoyment. After having enough of the petting for now, she had once again taken to the air, hovering just above him and out of reach of his arms.
As he made his way up to the Gryffindor Common Room and entering through portrait after giving the correct password, he was pleased to see that no one was in there with him. As they should, as classes were in the middle of running right now.
Making his way up to the dorm room and picking up his trunk, he nearly toppled over with the additional weight that was inside of it. It felt like the amount of books that Dumbledore had left him nearly weighed twice as more as he did. However, with a quick use of the Feather-light charm, and he was good to go, with the trunk now weighing hardly anything.
Getting the invisibility cloak that was resting in the small hood of his robe, he quickly drapped it over himself, leaving him completely invisible to the naked eye, and with the charmed trunk now being carried comfortably, he made his way down the stairs without a small creak in the staircase.
Now, the only odd thing that was happening was that Hedwig was flying about in the castle, yet even that couldn't leave people to pinpoint the location of Harry, as she was now flying a little further ahead, seeing as how her human was trying to avoid everyone and everything, she decided to fly on ahead, to help with the activity he was doing.
"Made it." Harry softly said from under the invisibility cloak.
He was now outside the castle itself - thankfully, the large double doors at the entrance were already slightly opened, allowing him to slip through the crack of it - and now found himself just before the entrance of the Forbidden Forest.
He made sure to keep away from Hagrid's Hut, as he did hear a Care of Magical Creature's class happening, and he didn't want the risk of being spotted by a Magical Creature. He knew that some of them were immune to the effects of the invisibility cloak, and if one of them spotted him, they would become spooked and cause more problems for Hagrid and possibly cause a little chaos with the students.
He didn't want that, so he opted to take the more... off-putting entrance that seemed to be shrouded in near permanent darkness. Not even the sun above was casting any light through the trees, and it was something that definitely upped the creepiness factor of it.
Quickly glancing around to make sure he was alone, he poked his head out through the invisibility cloak, and if anyone saw him, all they would see is a floating head, "Ready girl?" He asked softly, gazing up to Hedwig, who seemed to be a little on edge as she rested upon a branch of one the tree branches.
Turning her head down towards where she heard her human, her amber eyes shone brightly, but Harry could still see a bit of nervousness within her gaze as she barked softly.
Taking flight once again, only this time, she zipped down towards her human and came hovering just inches before him, before switching her gaze towards where his shoulder would be.
"Oh, you want to come under?" Harry asked, seeing the gaze of his companion drop to that area.
With another, firm hooting bark as her answer, Harry shuffled the invisibility cloak to where his shoulder was visible to Hedwig, before she quickly took her perch on the shoulder of her human, "Just remember, be quiet. Nothing will hurt you." He reassured his feathered companion before drapping the invisibility cloak over himself fully, covering himself and Hedwig from the worlds naked eyes.
"No, let's just hope that the dragontamers are a little more sparse." He muttered to himself. He wasn't sure that they had recieved the news that he was allowed to stay with the Hungarian Horntail, but it was best to be certain they didn't spot him in the first place.
Besides, the only one who could possibly understand what was happening was Charlie, and he was the one that Harry was the most comfortable talking to, however, that would happen once Harry was at the reserve, where it would be near impossible for the dragontamers to do anything.
It had been a rather uneventful journey through the Forbidden Forest for Harry. The only real piece of excitement that happened was sneaking his way past two dragontamers who seemed to be on a small break from their jobs, and all they were doing was talking to each other about what they would be doing once the dragons were back home and they were free for a few days.
Hedwig of course, had been a little jumpish and skittish when they first begun their journey, but she had quickly calmed down once she noticed that no danger was incoming. Harry had a few thoughts that it was because of the dragons around had managed to scare off any other magical creature and predators within the area.
So, coming towards the edge of the dragontamer sight, Harry was greeted with a few dragontamers keeping their eyes on the remaining dragons that were still yet to be brought back to their original dens. They seemed to be a bit more relaxed because of the fact that the dragons were less rowdy and were starting to calm down.
Yet, he was a little surprised to see that the dragontamers were that close to the Hungarian Horntail's nest/enclosure, in fact they were well away from it.
Making his way over towards the back of the small nest, he saw that his new mother seemed to be awake, however, she didn't really seem to be all there. Like she was concentrating on one thing, yet her body was doing something else.
"Mother, I am here."
He whispered out in Parseltongue from underneath the invisibility cloak. He had made sure to keep his voice down the best he could to not alert the nearby dragontamers. It was also nice because dragons had much more sensitive hearing, and perhaps she already knew he was there by his scent or smell.
Once the Hungarian Horntail had heard her hatchling's voice, she immediately perked up, her attention focused on where Harry was, despite the invisibility cloak being on and present on him.
"Hatchling, you're back!" She excalimed, her voice easily relaying the happiness that she felt, and Harry could even hear a small sigh in relief.
"Yes, I am." Harry spoke out, before bringing his hand out from within the invisibility cloak and gently rubbing her snout, getting a rumbling purr in response to it, "I even brought my companion, my closest friend." He said, before using his other hand and showing off Hedwig to the Hungarian Horntail.
"Hmm..."
Harry watched as the slitted eyes of the Hungarian Horntail focused on Hedwig, and he had to prevent flinching from a small burst of pain when Hedwig's talons clenched around his shoulder once the eyes landed on her. Quickly bringing his hand away from the dragons snout, he gently rubbed Hedwig in order to try and calm her down.
"She has always been with me, even when I'm with the Dursley's. She used to bring me dead mice that she tried to get me to eat, but I didn't." Harry quickly explained, hoping that would give her some more good terms with the dragon.
"I see." The dragon stated, before her eyes shifted to Hedwig once again, before she dipped her head ever so slightly, "I thank you for looking after my hatchling." She said, an ounce of respect in her voice towards the owl.
Despite feeling nervous with an apex predator right in front of her, Hedwig couldn't help but puff her chest out in pride as she gave a small hoot afterwards.
"She will be coming with me, I don't want to be separated from her." Harry said, explaining why Hedwig was here right now.
"Of course, my hatchling deserves to have his companion come with us. I will be certain to tell the others that they are not to touch or harm her."
Smiling lightly and feeling much more relieved that his mother allowed Hedwig to come along for the journey, he finally made his way into the nest, and placing himslf down so he was leaning against the dragons stomach.
Now that he was out of sight, he took of his invisibility cloak and gently bundled it so it was inbetween the eggs that would be his new brothers and sisters in the near future.
With the cloak off, Hedwig walked down his outstretched arm and started to carefully make her way around the nest, pecking at the ground and clawing at it gently to get used to the new surroundings.
"I'm excited, but also nervous at the same time." Harry admitted after a moment silence as he watched Hedwig move about, before eventually finding her way onto a large stick that was jutting up in the air.
"It's only natural. I myself felt that way when we moved to the new den many moons ago." She admitted, briefly losing herself to the memory when she was a younger and smaller dragon and finding her way around her new home, "However daunting it may be, remember, I will always protect you."
Nodding his head at that, Harry allowed himself to relax, nearly dozing off as the soft thumping of the dragons heart nearly lulled him to sleep.
"Ready up big mama! It's time to return her back to the reserve!"
Hearing the very loud call of one of the lead dragontamers, Harry lurched forward, almost losing his glasses in the process. From his position, he could hear the footfalls as they approached the nest.
Hedwig seemed to be startled as well by the sudden noise as she glided up in the air, but she knew not to be spotted.
"Hatchling, grab your companion, and get in with the eggs. I will hide you." His new mother all but commanded him.
Unwilling to disobey her, he gently grabbed hold of Hedwig, making sure to position his hands in a way so that it didn't hurt her in the process and moved between the small spaces that were left between the eggs. At least they were warm and not cold like he thought they were.
As her eyes left her hatchling and his companion after they did what they were told, she started to move about, before eventually she rested her body gently onto the eggs, laying on them enough to keep them warm, but not hard enough that they would crack or she could injure her hatchling and his companion, "It might heat up a little, but this is the safest way I know how to hide you."
Now surrounded in the dark, Harry couldn't even see the tip of his nose in front of him, however, he could still see Hedwig's bright amber eyes as they kept moving about in the darkness, "It's alright, Hedwig." He said softly, "She will not hurt us."
A few minutes later, Harry could start to feel the heat that his mother had warned him about. It wasn't too bad yet, but it was enough to start to make him sweat lightly. The combined body heat from her body and the residule heat from the eggs were starting to accumulate. He could even feel small drops of moisture fall from his glasses and land on his body that wasn't covered by his robes.
He could also feel the leather of his trunk start to feel a little sticky.
As the dragontamers continued to ready up the nest and dragon for the transportation, none of them noticed Albus Dumbledore standing just out of sight, behind one of the many trees in the Forbidden Forest, keeping his eyes locked onto the working dragontamers, yet most of his attention was on the Hungarian Horntail that had curled up so that her entire body was covering the nest.
In which he knew that Harry and Hedwig were residing in, without the knowledge of the dragontamers.
"Good luck, Harry Potter." He whispered out, "Enjoy your new home and life with the Hungarian Horntail." He spoke out softly once more, before tearing his gaze away from the dragon before he started to walk back through the Forbidden Forest, with no one none the wiser that he was actually there.
