Chapter 31. The Dark Revel
Snape and Avery heard shouts and a commotion emanating from behind the door to the Black Room. Avery reacted first. He ran over and flung open the door to see Lucius in obvious distress. His face was turning blue from lack of oxygen, and he was backed up until he was flat against the wall, he knees bent in weakness. In one hand he firmly held both his wand, and Sasha�s. With the other he was desperately trying to peel her hands away from his throat. There were two vials on the floor, their contents mostly spilled. One was green, the other, silver.
Sasha was almost on top of him, and had her hands wrapped in a death grip around his neck. She was squeezing so hard, Lucius�s face was almost purple, and his eyes were bugging out. It appeared that he had succeeded in taking away her wand, but he had no chance to utter a defensive spell before she was on him. After recovering from his initial shock, Avery reacted. He pointed his wand at Sasha and yelled a curse. A flash of blue streaked out from his wand and hit her.
Arms wide, she flew up and back away from Lucius, hitting the far wall with a sickening thud. She slid down the wall, then lay still on the floor, stunned, but still breathing. Lucius gasped, and all in the room could hear the air rushing into his lungs after nearly being choked to death. Deep bruising was already starting to form where her hands had almost crushed his windpipe. He was still coughing and wheezing when Sasha started to stir. Snape made to go over to check on her, but Avery pointed his wand at her and chains appeared. They wrapped themselves around her wrists and ankles, immobilizing her.
Lucius was more than angry. A look of terrible hatred and unbelief crossed his face. Sasha was just starting to yell for help when he lurched towards her.
"Shut up you bitch!" he croaked out, pointing both wands at her. "Silencio!" His voice was raw and ragged from the near strangling, but the spell was still effective. She was desperately trying to scream at Avery and Snape, pleading for help, but not a word escaped from her.
Snape just stood and watched what was happening. He knew the situation could not be worse for him, or for Sasha. If Lucius was calm, there may have been a way to talk him out of involving Sasha in any of this. However now, after whatever happened behind the door, there was nothing he could do. Sasha was staring at him, not saying a word, but breathing hard and fast. Her angry gray eyes were as large and pleading as he had ever seen them. This was going so wrong, he thought. Snape felt sick to his stomach.
Lucius stood bent over, rubbing his throat, and still recovering from having been nearly choked to death. "I don�t want to hear a word from that bitch," he spat, his voice raw and cracking. His look of displeasure was clearly written across his face. "She will pay for that. Take her, Avery."
Snape made to intervene. Lucius whipped up the hand that still held both wands, and pointed them at Snape�s neck, pushing them deeply into the pale skin. A gleam of satisfaction revealed his pleasure at seeing Snape there, witnessing these events.
"You will not participate, but you will watch," he croaked. Lucius flicked the wands with his wrists, indicating Snape was to follow Avery and Sasha out the door.
Snape could feel his anger turning to dread as he pivoted and walked out the door.
Good God Sasha, what have you done, he thought.
