Chapter 29: The Simple Truth
As promised, Calhoun returned Friday evening to take Sheridan out to dinner. He waited for her in Dumbledore’s office as to avoid wandering eyes and idle gossip from the students.
Also waiting in the office with him were her parents.
Sirius and Severus were dressed in Muggle clothing as dictated per his instructions. Severus had on a tailor made three-piece dark blue suit with matching dress shoes. His hair was loose and curling somewhat at the ends; and Sirius was similarly dressed in a light gray trousers, white dress shirt (that obscenely stretched across his muscled chest) and shining black dress shoes sans the suit jacket. His beard was neatly trimmed and his hair was tied back from his face.
They made a stunning couple.Severus would be hard pressed to beat back the populace to keep their paws off his husband and Calhoun wasn’t quite sure what Sirius would do if anyone were to come onto Severus. He knew from experience that Sirius would maul someone that thought he or she could get away with flirting with his dark eyed lover.
Then the door to the office opened…
Sheridan stepped in wearing a mint green floral print dress. Long black hair was tied up in a French roll with a few strains curling on each side of her hairline. Obsidian orbs were outline in black making her eyes stand out, that was the only make-up she wore. She wore a pair of one inch high white espadrilles sandals that tied around slender ankles.
Her cheeks were dusted a pretty red, apparently flushed from being under scrutiny by everyone gathered in front of her.
Holding his hand out for her, Calhoun waited patiently for her to take it. Cautiously, Sheridan reached out and placed her delicate hand into his. She was swept up into his arms as he kissed her cheek in greeting.A discrete cough from Dumbledore had Calhoun clearing his throat and letting his soulmate go.
“Are you ready, my dear?” he asked.
“Yes,” Sheridan breathlessly answered, eyes glazed with passion.Sirius growled. Calhoun was just asking for a beat down.
“Calhoun,” was the only warning that he got from Severus.
“What? I’m not doing anything,” he replied, a condescending look on his face.
“Gentlemen and Lady, if you will,” Dumbledore spoke cutting the tension smiling all the while. “Madame Pomfrey has assured me traveling by portkey is still safe to use.” He looked at Severus and the other shot him a dirty murderous glare.
Sitting on his desk was an empty Vanilla Coca-cola can. Sirius had to wonder (and not for the first time) where the Headmaster get the items for portkeys.
Within seconds they were gone and found themselves behind an old brick building. Severus (and Sheridan) had to take a moment to get over the queasy feeling to their stomachs.
“Sev, are you alright,” Sirius asked concerned.
“I’m well. Just... give me a minute.”
“Mum?” Sheridan called out. This was the first time that she saw him ill and it scared her.
“I’m fine, Sheridan. Why don’t you and Calhoun go in and your father and I will catch-up, okay?” Severus said trying to keep the contents of his stomach down.
“If you’re sure you’re alright,” Sheridan replied hesitant to leave.
He nodded his head giving them the okay to proceed without them.
Calhoun glanced back over his shoulder as he led Sheridan to the front of the establishment where they were to dine. Looking Sirius in the eyes, the ex-Gryffindor shook head and mouthed ‘later’ before turning his attention back to his sick spouse.
“Sev, are you sure that you’re alright? You can go back to the castle and have Poppy look you over and I can stay to keep an eye out on Calhoun,” Sirius said.
“No. I’m not going to have you ruin our daughter’s first date, Siri. She would never forgive you if you started a fight with Calhoun,” Severus said as he got himself together, taking a deep cleansing breathe of air.
“I would do no such thing, Sev, and you know it,” Sirius hissed. He was quite put out that his husband knew him so well. He grumbled a bit more as he guided Severus by the small of his back inside the restaurant.
The large gaudy sign, ‘Sienea Tavern’, was a place that Calhoun told them about a few years ago. The owner was a younger man that Calhoun met when he was just starting out as a budding chef, using family recipes and giving them his own twist—the specialty was homemade pasta—made fresh daily. Calhoun became one of his sponsors and as thanks, he could come dine any time he wanted without having to wait or make reservations.
They were in a private dining area for a small group. They even had their own personal server. While Sheridan was underage and pregnant, she was only allowed to drink water or some type of juice.
The adults all had a glass of wine while waiting for the dinner to arrive. It was in this moment that Calhoun broach the subject he been dreading for a while.
“Sheridan, I believe you wanted to ask me something,” he said before taking a sip from his glass.
Now as she thought about it, “What did… what was it that you did to me the other night? It was like I in a haze or something.”
A low growl came from Sirius. Oh, boy!
“And I’m sorry for that, my dear. That was is a hypnotic gaze that I sometimes forget that I have. My family… I’ve been told that we are descendants of Vladimir Tepes. I don’t know how accurate it is—I never checked our family tree or the written tomes of our property in Bucharest. Also, somewhere down the line a great-great Uncle married a Veela. So, I have a bit of the allure," Calhoun explained, shrugging one of his shoulders as if it wasn’t of significance.
“You mean to say that vampirism runs in your family,” Sirius asked incredulously.
“Vampire? Like in the movies?” Sheridan interjected, wondering what the big deal was.
“No, my dear. Vampires are very real and quite dangerous. Since my family doesn’t know of our background therefore what coven we would belong to, we keep ourselves separate from them. If it is proven that we direct descendants of Tepes, we could very well upset the balance and tentative peace that’s been in place for over several centuries.
“Our craving for blood has diminished over last five hundred years because of marriages with other magical beings. But that’s not to say I or my father or any offspring won’t fall victim to the overwhelming urge of drinking blood. Vampirism is a recessive trait. There would have to be an extreme catalysis for some kind to awaken that particular attribute,” Calhoun explained.
Fascinated, Sheridan asked, “Like what?”
Calhoun paused as their server arrived with their meal. Since they were in Italy, freshly made pasta was the fare. Ranging from Fettuccine Primavera with a red or white sauce, Linguini with clam sauce, to Spinach filled Ravioli—all served with warm hand-made focaccia bread with a side of oil and balsamic vinegar.
Sheridan requested a half meal with smaller portions with a Cesar salad; while Severus ordered Tortellini soup and a salad. He didn’t think he would be able to handle anything more least he would throw-up again and he didn’t want to spoil his daughter’s night out.Sirius and Calhoun, both ordered steak (medium rare and well done respectively) with rice pilaf, grille shrimp, and a small side salad. Their conversation continued on as Calhoun finished re-telling of his family’s so-called infamous history.
oOoOoOo
It was around ten o’clock when they returned home to the dungeons from having dinner with Calhoun. Orion was apparently waiting up for them. He was stretched out on the sofa in front of the fireplace reading his Defense book. There were several parchments spread about the floor beneath him. Apparently, he was working on is homework, wanting to get it out the way to have his entire weekend to himself for fun with Harry, Draco, and Blaise.
Severus told him that he didn’t know when they would be back and go out with his friends and enjoy the beginning of his weekend. However, Orion chose to focus on his studies. Besides, he promised Lavendar Patil that they could meet up.
Orion watched his parents with some suspicion. His mum had been acting funny for quite some time (since last term) and wondered what was going on. Also, his dad was a bit out-of-character too, like catering to his mum’s every need. It was bad enough knowing that they still have an active sex life (his brows scrunched at that thought). He remembered when came back home from Blaise’s after staying there for three weeks…
“No, Mum, I’m fine. Actually, I was thinking about just staying with Blaise until the beginning of the school year,” Orion said, hoping that his mother would allow him to remain with his best friend.
“Absolutely not, young man. Your father and I want you home now. Unless you want me to come over to the Zambini’s estate and drag you home whilst you kick and scream like a small child,” Severus replied.
Closing his eyes at that horrible picture, Orion sighed in defeat.
“Fine. I’ll be home within the hour.”
“You made a wise choice, Orion.” Severus ended the Firecall without another word.
As soon as Orion exited the Floo, he was confronted with not only his mother but his father as well.
“Hello.”
“Welcome back, son,” Sirius greeted then he turned and walked up the hall to his study.
Gapping at his father, Orion knew he was to follow. “Mum?"
"Not a word.” Severus glided down the hallway as well. Once they were seated, Sirius and Severus looked directly at their only son. “How are you, Orion?” Severus asked concerned.
“I’m fine, Mum.”
“Your father and I felt that it is necessary for us to speak with you about what-”
“I don’t want to talk about it, if it’s all the same,” Orion replied quickly.
“We’re not going to talk about what we did, Orion. We wanted to make sure that seeing us in… in such a compromising position like that is not going to have any type of adverse effect on you,” Severus said.
“I get it, Mum. You and Dad still… you know… have sex and that’s fine… just… just don’t… Just make sure to be behind closed doors next time,” Orion answered. His face was heating up. Well, since they were on the subject…
“Sheridan and I was just wondering if you were… um, (coughs)… if you…” Orion knew he was nattering on.
“Will you just spit it out,” Sirius said as he got up to make himself a drink and apparently Orion needed one as well.
“Sheridan and I wanted to know if you were going to have another baby!”
Sirius choke on his drink as did Severus.
“Where did you get an idea like?”
“Me catching you having sex was not the first time. You have been going at it like mad rabbits since Dad’s been back and-”
“What!” Sirius barked.
“Orion, slow down. Your father and I are not… There won’t… I can’t get pregnant,” Severus trailed off.
Orion just stared at his parents.
He and Sheridan were going to be their only offspring and his disappointment must have showed. It broke Severus’ heart and he needed to explain why there won’t be any other siblings.
“When you were little, I was pregnant with twins again and… and when Daddy got sent to Azkaban, I miscarried. That caused severe damage to my womb, Orion. We want more children but that’s not possible. I’m sorry,” Severus explained.
“Don’t be sorry, Mum. I’m sorry that I asked. I’m going to bed. I’ll see you two in the morning,” Orion said leaving his parents to comfort each other after that heart wrenching conversation…
He smiled to himself how sickening sweet they would kiss at random times around the manor; wishing that when the time comes that he would find someone to love like how his parents were with each other.
Then while he was keenly observing his parents, Orion noticed his mum (after changing into pair of loose fitting sweatpants and a t-shirt) was in the kitchen making tea that, although he knew his mum was tall, he was also extremely thin, which seem to contradict the slight bulge around the middle.
It was unnoticeable until Orion saw his mother run a hand down the front of his shirt.
Not being one to hold his tongue, something that he pick-up from his father (because really, Sirius had no tact whatsoever), Orion said, “Mum, you’re getting fat. Whatever it is that you’re eating and I know it isn’t much, but I think you need to cut-back at bit.”
Severus was dismayed by the blunt statement from his oldest child. Sirius walked out of their bedchamber on the tail end of the sentence (he too was similarly dressed in sweat pants and no shirt) went into the kitchen to help himself to tea as well while watching his husband.
For the most part, Severus didn’t move. He was too shock at hearing his child call him fat. He looked at Sirius as if expecting for him to discipline their son for calling him names but Severus knew it was his hormones talking.
“Well, love, maybe this is a good of a time as any to let them know,” Sirius whispered coming behind Severus and wrapping a comforting arm around his waist.
Nodding his head in agreement, they headed to the sitting area, Sirius called out to Sheridan, hoping that she wasn’t asleep yet.
The twins would stay with them (and Sirius, when he didn’t have to work) over the weekends and would go back to their dorms on Monday. So far, Severus liked the arrangement of having his kids and husband close.
Sheridan dragged out of her room, looking haggard and tired. She was in bed (as Sirius feared) if the head scarf was any indication to go by.
“Yes?” she answered as she shuffled into the main room while covering a yawn.
“Have a sit next to your brother, your mother and I have something that we need to tell you,” Sirius said when he realized that Severus was not going to say anything.
They sat opposite of the twins on the plush black chaise.
Now, Orion had a worried look upon his handsome features, never before had his parents wanted to speak with them together, it was usually one or the other. He saw how nervous his parents looked.
Maybe some of those rumors were true!
And to Orion’s horror, Sirius grabbed onto Severus’ hand.
Oh, it was too much for the elder Black heir. Orion quietly whimpered in distress as his twin was completely oblivious to what was happening to their family.
“In light of what’s been going-on,” Sirius began, meaning how Sheridan created all this unnecessary chaos. “Your Mother and I have some unexpected news we would like to share with you.”
Tears gathered in wide grey eyes, Orion was going into panic mode. He jumped up pacing in front of his sister and parents.
“We get it!” he yelled, nerves frayed beyond their limit. His family stared at him.
“You do?” Sirius asked, totally missing his son’s break-down.
“We do?” Sheridan called out as well wide awake at hearing her brother.
Severus remained silent. He was carefully watching his son.
“We understand that you wanted to tell us before we hear it from someone first,” Orion replied.
“True, son,” Sirius replied completely unaware of Orion’s plight.
Stopping mid-pace, Orion turned to his parents. “And as your heir, I must say that I’m totally against the idea.”
Severus and Sirius gapped at their son like he had another head on his shoulders.Sirius looked at his baby girl. “You feel the same way, sweetheart?”
“Well, I-I…” Sheridan was a bit flummoxed.
“Of course she feels the same, Dad! How are you two just sitting there all calm! This is going to change our lives forever! And we refuse to be a part of it.”
“Well, Orion, it’s too late now. This was something that neither one of us planned,” Sirius answered.
“I see. So, when do you plan on announcing it?” Orion asked. He was ready to go to bed—this was too much for him to handle.
“We were going to wait until after things settle down after your sister’s wedding,” Sirius said.
Sighing, the fight having gone out of him, Orion sat back down next to his sister. “What do I tell my friends? I don’t know anyone that this has happen too.”
“Sure you have. Just talk with Harry and Draco. Their parents are going through it right now,” Sirius answered, hoping that this would help.
It didn’t.
“WHAT? They didn’t mention one bloody word about their parents separating!”
“Separating?” Sirius said. Light chuckling could be heard beside him. He cut menacing grey eyes toward his husband.
“Orion, who said anything about us separating?”
“You did. You just told us,” he answered, pointing an accusing finger at his parents.
Putting his head down, Sirius was trying his best not laugh. His son could be such a drama queen at times.
“No, son, you misunderstood me. We are not getting a divorce nor are we separating—never believe that. I love him too much to want to let him go. Your mother is pregnant.”
“Mum?” Sheridan finally spoke-up.
“Yes.”
“I thought… Orion told me what happened. How is it possible?” she asked her obsidian orbs welling-up hoping that it was true.
“Madame Pomfrey said as long as there’s a single conception, I will have no problem whatsoever begetting a child,” Severus answered. He cheeks dusting a lovely scarlet as Sirius gave him a quick kiss.
Shoulders sagging in relief, Orion went to his mother. “Congratulations, Mum and Dad. You actually had us worried for a minute.”
“No, just you, silly,” Sheridan called out joining them as well.
Severus stood, Sheridan and Orion hugged him. “Just remember, you will always be my babies.”That did them in. Both were on each shoulder silently crying. It wasn’t often that Severus expressed himself and the twins knew without a doubt that he loved them but to hear such an endearment meant the world to them.
oOoOoOo
Later that night, once Severus put Orion’s fear aside that he and his unborn sibling was doing fine, he collapsed the bed totally exhausted.
Sirius was already there, laying on his side facing away from him. Severus knew that his husband wasn’t asleep. He tested that theory by saying, “I’m going to write Father.”
“Please don’t tell him about the baby. I’m not sure that I can stand a visit from him. Your mum can come—I like her,” Sirius answered.
“That’s because she always gives you some type of baked goods. No, I’m not telling them about baby. I need to have some weeks off. I want him to sub my classes until my morning sickness has past. I’m in no shape to teacher at this point.”
Sirius just hummed.
“And besides, he probably already knows about the baby. Our family tree is updated automatically, just like yours. You should have received an official post from the Department of Records by now” Severus continued on.
“Hmm.”
Sighing, Severus pulled the duvet up to his chin, closing his eyes. Sleep was pulling him under when he heard, “I think that’s a splendid idea, love. You should Firecall your father in the morning.”
Sirius then turned over spooning behind his dark haired lover, caressing his belly tenderly. It didn’t take long for Severus to completely relax and succumb to sleep.
oOoOoOo
Two weeks later…
The gathering that took place at Snape manor was small and very intimate. Dumbledore presided over the bonding, which had him twittering and buzzing like a bee collecting nectar. Severus rolled his eyes at the sight of the Headmaster jumping about as if it was one of his kids getting married, in a roundabout way it was—it was quite nauseating really then he took one look at his baby girl’s face and saw the happiness there and he melted.
Severus allowed Sheridan to invite only her closest friends. He glanced over at the small group of teens gathered, talking amongst themselves, laughing at something silly that Harry did or nodding their head at something Hermione stated.
He also noticed how close Draco and Hermione were standing next to one another. He hid a smile as Sam blocked Ginny from getting too close to Harry.
He smiled to himself sadly wishing that Lucius and James were in attendance to share in this special occasion, but due to James being on bed rest for another few weeks it just wasn’t possible. Severus knew that Lucius wasn’t going to leave his husband’s bedside for any long length of time. However, Lucien made an appearance and that’s all that mattered to him.
The Potions master smooth down the front of his dress robes feeling his slightly distended belly. He wasn’t showing all that much but he knew that if he wasn’t wearing his dark flowing robes anyone would be able to tell that something was off about him.
Now with the ceremony over everyone adjourned to the second ballroom on the far side of the manor. The hall was of medium size and could easily fit up to sixty people. Banquet tables were lined against one wall filled with every food imaginable while on line along another wall were an assortments of drinks for wandering guests. Round dining tables were set-up toward the front near the stage were the recently bonded couple sat. To the right of them was a small string quartet playing light mesmerizing music.
A six tiered cake stood proudly on the opposite end of the musical band where gifts of various sizes grew around the main focus in the room.
Severus spied Calhoun taking (what looked like a much needed) breather. This probably the best time to approach him alone while Sirius was chatting it up with a wheelchair bound Remus as Regulus stood close with a sleeping Cassie on his shoulder. He patted her on the back every so often to make sure that she remained in a blissful slumber whilst their other three kids ran amuck, laughing and playing.
Pulling Calhoun aside, Severus placed a phial in his friend’s hand.
“Severus, what’s this?”
“My wedding gift to you and Sheridan, but don’t tell her about it. If you do, not only will I deny it but I’ll poison you making look like accidental suicide,” Severus said.
“What is it exactly?” Calhoun asked eyeing the phial with slight suspicion.
“It’s a de-aging potion. Take it in an hour before you and Sheridan depart from the festivities then in another hour the potion will take effect. The dose in the phial will age you to sixteen. I know you, Cal, you would wait until she’s eighteen to properly bed her but you have to consummate the bond tonight,” Severus explained.
“I can’t, Sev,” Calhoun began to argue pushing the phial back.
“You don’t have a choice and besides, you don’t want Sheridan to come crying to Sirius because you didn’t perform your husbandly duties on your wedding night, now would you?”
“That’s not fair, Severus!” Calhoun exclaimed scandalized by his friend’s words.
“Then take the potion. I already had spoken with Sheridan. She knows not to push you for anything more than you can give,” Severus said.
Calhoun stared at the tall dark haired wizard with wide disbelieving crimson eyes.
“Who are you and what have you done with my friend?”
Severus rolled his eyes and sighed. “Please, Calhoun. Don’t embarrass yourself by drooling on the floor. I would not be pleased if I had to clean it up, I assure you.”
Without another word, the potions master left his friend gapping at him. Severus rejoined his spouse a few minutes later.
“So, did you give it to him?” Sirius asked wrapping an arm about Severus’ waist.
“Yes, Siri, and if you’ll excuse me, I have to see why my father is avoiding speaking with Matthew.”Grabbing him by the arm and twirling him around, Severus was caught off-guard when Sirius kissed him senseless.
oOoOoOo
From the other side of the ballroom, Octavious saw the sickly sweet scene with his son and spouse. When Sirius let go of Severus, Octavious could tell by the daze look in his son’s eyes that he forgot whatever it was that he was supposed to do.
He hated to admit that Sirius was the best and only person for Severus. No one else could lite a fire in the depth of Severus’ obsidian orbs nor could anyone quell the raging inferno that lurked behind his cold exterior. He looked over to his wife and wondered not for the first time of all the wrongs he heaped upon her.
She was not his soul mate but he fell in love with her all the same and she gifted him with a beautiful child. Then he allowed his father to poison his mind of how she was not good enough to be a Snape—the Prince family line was nothing more than paupers; and Octavious was feeling the pressure of wanting to please his father and wanting to please himself—he began drinking.
He was startled out of his inner musings of his past.
“Father.”
“Severus.”
“Care to explain why you are ignoring Matthew?”
“No.”Octavious knew he was being childish—he said some pretty nasty things to his friend about his son and their bloodline it was totally uncalled for. He just couldn’t bring himself to admit that his was wrong.
“Matt and I… had a little disagreement is all,” Octavious said.
“Really? Then why does he look like someone kicked his puppy?”
A dark thunder cloud settle over Octavious’ head. He really didn’t want to talk about it.“I will speak with Matt later. Now is not the time. I don’t want to be the cause of ruining my grandchild’s wedding day,” Octavious replied.
“Very well, Father,” Severus said turning to leave him in peace.
“Severus, is there something else that you wish to tell me and your mother?”Looking into his father’s dark eyes, Severus answered.
“No, there is not.” And he walked away.
oOoOoOo
Matthew found his way back outside in the pool area, the water gleaming and dancing under the pale moonlight. He sat on one of the lounge chairs comptemtplating life (or rather his life).
Striking up a cigarette, Matt almost choke on the polluted plum when he heard the low mesmerizing tones of his ex-lover.
“Those things are not good for you,” Lucien said, walking fully out of the shadows.
Taking one last long drag from the slim stick, Matthew blew the smoke away and snub out the filter. Standing, Matthew turned to look at the nearly glowing mercurial orbs.
“Lord Malfoy, what do I owe this unexpected pleasure?”
The aristocrat did not like how he was greeted so formally, so coldly. But then again, Lucien had not said one word to Matthew since he and Octavious visited him and Calhoun almost three weeks ago.
What a bloody mess, he thought remorsefully.
“Please, Matthew, let’s be reason able about this. I’m sorry for the way I acted,” Lucien tried to apologize but apparently, Matt wasn’t listening.
“Well, be that as it may, things were said. Now, if you’ll excuse me.”Matthew stood to leave.
”Matthew, wait!”
Lucien had his full attention.
“About the proposal-”
“You needn’t worry, Lord Malfoy. I’ll recind it,” Matthew said.
Shocked, Lucien couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He didn’t come out here to break an engagement. Damn it! He was going to accept!
He didn’t want to be alone any more. He didn’t want to be parted from Matthew. He came to make everything right between.
“Wha-”
“You may keep the ring—a gift.”
Then he was gone.Never before had Lucien felt dejected. The one person he wanted just walked out of his life—possible forever. He was a Malfoy and Malfoys get what they want—always.
Lucius would not allow him peace after this. A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips. His son was very protective of him. He was going to have to disabuse his child that he didn't need protecting.
With his plan set, Lucien followed Matthew back into the ballroom. It was all or nothing at the cost of his heart.

A/N: I know that it’s been a minute since my last update and I must apologize. My muses took flight and left me hanging since January. I know that the wedding was quick but I needed to get it out the way. Will Lucien get Matt back? Will Severus admit to his parents that’s he’s expecting? Will Octavious apologize to Matthew? Don’t know? Well, stay tuned for the next chapter to find out.

Lucien was greeted by Calhoun upon entering the sitting room off the left of the entryway.
“How are you doing?” Calhoun asked politely. He was wondering why Lucien was even here.
“I was wondering if I might be able to speak with your father, Cal,” Lucien requested.
“I’m sorry, Lucien, but he’s not here.”
If Lucien’s face showed any shock, Calhoun didn’t take notice or simply just ignored it.
“What do you mean?”
“My father left the day after the wedding to give Sheridan and me some privacy,” Calhoun replied.
The color drained from Lucien’s face at the implication of the words.
“May ask where did he go and how long would he be away?”
Thinking, Calhoun answered, “Well, normally, I would accompany him but with Sheridan being pregnant, it’s not recommended that she travel until after the baby is born. At any rate, Father went to our family estate in Bucharest and will not be returning for three months at least.”
Lucien’s knees almost gave out.
