There was something wrong with Harry, that's all there was to it and Kaliya was now wondering what to do. His young man had yet to wake up from the nap he had taken in the afternoon and it was now the middle of the night. Lucius and Severus, both, had checked on him a few times before they went to bed themselves and didn't seem overly concerned. They said something about him just being overly tired from all kinds of things. Kaliya had accepted that, assuming they knew what they were talking about as they dealt with teenagers before. Now, though, there was something really wrong and he knew it because his young man, even though deeply asleep, was moaning in pain. From what the snake could judge, all of Harry's joints were extremely hot and appeared painful. If he even touched them, it caused a reaction from Harry. This wasn't good at all.
Curled up at the foot of Harry's bed, he looked at his young man, tail twitching in an agitated way. Harry was bathed in sweat and twitching, almost like he was unable to hold still. Something had to be done here. After thinking it over quickly, Kaliya slithered off the bed then headed for Severus' room. He wasn't sure if the man could figure it out, but he might know something of what was going on.Slithering into the Potion Master's room, Kaliya climbed on the bed then began to hiss the man's name as loudly as he could, waiting.Coming awake quickly, Severus snatched his wand off the bedside table as he sat up, rubbing his eyes. Heart hammering, not sure what woke him, he looked around then spied Kaliya curled up on the foot of his bed. Relaxing slightly, he shook his head then asked, tone uneven, “Is something wrong?”“So sorry to disturb, Severus, but there is. Something is wrong with Harry, but I don't know what. He's in pain, though not awake,” Kaliya explained, tail twitching.Completely alert, Severus nodded then piled out of bed, slipping into his robe and slippers. Having Kaliya crawl onto his shoulders, he asked, as he made his way to the young man's room, “What's the problem, do you know?”Quickly running down the symptoms he saw and felt, Kaliya sighed, “He thought it was just being sore from the game. What's going on seems to be spreading to the other joints, however. That doesn't strike me as being a symptom of the game you played, Severus. And he's in pain. He's even moaning in his sleep. If I touch the joints, it causes a reaction.”Taking that in, Severus nodded then let himself into the young man's room. Brow furrowed as he looked at the twitching, moaning Harry, taking in his appearance, he sighed then went over and began to cast some very basic diagnostics. The results made him furrow his brow. Shaking his head, he called one of the elves and had them go fetch Lucius. Something was definitely off here and he didn't know what. Focusing more on the young man's joints, he cast a few more, wondering if it wasn't an allergic reaction to the nutrient potions. He didn't think it was, but he needed to be sure before he pressed on. Shaking his head at the readings, he looked up as the wide-eyed Lucius came in, belting his robe as he did. Quietly, he said, “We have a problem.”“How bad,” Lucius asked, coming over to the bed and looking at the young man on it.“This is serious,” Severus said gravely. Sighing, he said, “Go to the library and get me some of the books on basic medical diagnostics. Let me see what I can figure out here.”After Lucius left, a determined look on his face, Kaliya inquired, “Any inkling as to what this may be, Severus? Or how serious? He's in tremendous pain.”“I don't know,” Severus said, honestly, shaking his head as he tried a few more diagnostics he knew. “I'll give him something for the pain when I get a hint as to what this may be. I can't yet as that may mask something that's going on.” Reaching up to rub the snake's head as he looked over the readings, he said, “Don't worry. We'll figure out what it is.”
Standing in the park, looking around, Sirius then glanced at the equally concerned Remus. Something was really wrong. Lucius had contacted them an hour ago, saying that they needed help with something. All they knew was it had to do with Harry. Shaking his head, he sighed. Yeah, this was bad. It was like three in the morning and when you get someone contacting you at that time, it never means anything good.
“Did Lucius say what this was about?” Remus asked quietly, looking around.“Just that it was something health related, nothing more,” Sirius told him softly, glancing around, hoping the elf that was supposed to be meet them showed soon.“Any hint beyond that?” Remus asked, feeling his gut clench.“Nothing,” Sirius sighed, stiffening when he heard the soft pop. Seeing the elf with the markings on his towel that told them it was from Lucius, he waited.Seeing the two there, the elf had them take hold of his hands. When they did, he popped away with them.Landing in the foyer of Avalon Manor, a very disheveled Lucius met them. Stiffening up, Sirius asked, “What's wrong with Harry?”“We don't know,” Lucius told him honestly, shaking his head. Motioning them to follow, he led them to Harry's room, explaining what the symptoms were. When he finished, as they stepped into the room, he said, quietly, “We've ruled out some of the worst diseases out there, but we just don't know what this might be. Severus has given him something for pain and he's still sleeping, so he's at least comfortable, but we're trying to think what else to test him for. It's our hope you two may have an idea what to check for.”Conjuring a chair and seating himself by the bed, Sirius stroked Harry's hair, looking at the young man. Shaking his head, he asked, “What have you ruled out?”Quickly, Severus ran through the readings of what he had done so far, shaking his head. Looking at the sleeping young man, he sighed when he finished, then told them, “I just don't know what else to check. His joints are seriously inflamed and he is in pain, we know that. Nothing matches any serious disease we can find.” Quietly, he added, “We would take him to St. Mungos in a second if we knew hell wouldn't come when they discovered who he was.”“It's a last resort, we understand that,” Sirius told him with a nod.Looking at the young man on the bed, Remus shook his head, trying to think. There was something about what he was seeing that seemed 'off' to him, but he couldn't quite place a finger on it.“Is there any kind of health problems that he's had that either of you know about?” Severus asked, looking between the two. “Something odd? Or in the family line that might be manifesting?”“Nothing,” Sirius told him with a shake of his head after looking at Remus and seeing the same reaction. “The only thing is something you're handling; how small he is. I'm not sure if that's because of how he was raised or just that he's small. It might even be he's not kicked into high gear yet when it comes to developing. I don't know there.”“Could it be the nutrient potion, Severus? Did you check that? Or that, maybe, he's starting to grow from it?” Remus asked, shaking his head, lost as to what this could be. He assumed Severus had checked that, but wanted to rule it out before they pressed on.“It's not the potions. That's the first thing I checked,” Severus said gruffly, rubbing his face as he tried to think.“Could it be the bond? That it kicked up something?” Sirius asked quietly, looking around.“Nothing in that bond would cause physical symptoms like this. If it did, Severus and I would be experiencing it as well,” Lucius said, looking at the young man.“There is that,” Sirius sighed. Rubbing his eyes in a tired way, he said, “Let me think here--”Standing there, looking at Harry, Remus tried to pinpoint what might be off that he was seeing. Shaking his head, not able to get a handle on it, he asked, “Are you monitoring his growth?”“Yes. We want to make sure it works. If it didn't help any, we'd discontinue,” Severus said distractedly, looking at the young man.“He's bigger,” Remus finally said quietly, shaking his head as it hit him. “It's not a lot, but he's a little taller and filled out some.” Looking at Severus and Lucius, he said, “You might want to check those charts to see if I'm right. He sure as heck looks slightly bigger to me!”Standing up and backing over to where Remus was, Sirius looked at Harry then began to nod. “He is. It's not much, but it's there.”Eyes widening, Severus looked at Lucius, whose brow was furrowed then ordered, “Get me the growth charts.” Seeing the man nod then take off, Severus shook his head and told the other two, “Nothing I gave him should cause rapid growth. It would aid in what his body would do normally, but not kick it to an extreme.”“Maybe it's a combination of things if that's what it is?” Remus asked, shaking his head. “Sorry, this isn't my area at all. Standard nutrient potions are safe enough you can buy them anywhere. They wouldn't do this by themselves.”“Let's see if that's what it is first before we try to figure it out,” Severus told them, rubbing a hand over his mouth and looking at the young man on the bed.Coming back in with the chart, Lucius handed it over then waited.Casting the spell he had employed to record Harry's statistics, he then looked down at the paper, eyes wide. “He's grown a half an inch since I took the reading earlier in the week.” Looking around, he said, “Nothing I gave him should do that. Nothing. That is far too rapid.”“And it would explain the joint pain if it's that fast,” Lucius said quietly, looking around.“Which means we have to figure out what the hell is causing it,” Severus said grimly, shaking his head. “I'll discontinue the potions, obviously, but I don't think that's all of it.”“Alright, let's sit down and see what we can find here,” Remus said quietly, looking at the sleeping young man.
Running his hands through his already messed up hair, Lucius groaned then shook his head before taking a sip of his very strong tea. Looking at the mass of books spread out over the table, he said, “I'm finding nothing. Absolutely nothing. The bond couldn't do this. Even Kaliya says that. The potions couldn't do it. Which leaves us with nothing.”
Shoving the book he just finished aside, Severus rubbed his face in a tired way and shook his head. “I don't know either.” Looking at Kaliya, who was perched on the stool by him, he sighed, “The bond shouldn't do this. Nothing in it should have this reaction. Nothing.”Closing the book he finished, Remus sighed then asked, “Could it be a combination of things? Not just one? I don't know—you said the readings were normal earlier in the week. So, this just started. Maybe like—I don't know, some things finally gelled and it caused this?”Thinking that over, Severus began to nod. “Maybe. It might. What combination it could be I don't know.”“The bond may be the obvious one here,” Remus said. “I don't think it's the cause, but a catalyst. We know the basics of what it did. What else could it have done? Or what have you worked with?”“Severus and I worked on the Parseltongue part. He's worked some with Harry on shields. That's partially in place. It's not fully, but it's enough to block it,” Lucius explained, leaning his elbows on the table and looking at Remus. “I can't see where that would cause anything.”Tired and upset, Severus tried to think, shaking his head. “It shouldn't. None of that should affect anything.”“I can't see where this would affect Harry's growth, Severus,” Kaliya interjected quietly. “The potions weren't causing a problem before the bond and were working as they should. So were the other things. His only issue was dealing with his unbound magic. The bond wouldn't affect any of those things. If I had thought there was some kind of reaction like this, I would never have done such a thing.”“I don't think the bond caused any of it,” Lucius soothed, looking at the snake.“No, I don't either.” Severus admitted, trying to think, hand over his mouth.“Was there any reaction at all to the potions? Like he did need them?” Remus asked, looking between the two. Right now, Sirius was up sitting with Harry in case there was a problem. So, he was working with this the best he could.“Some, yes. There was obviously some kind of damage to correct,” Severus nodded, looking in Lupin's direction. “I don't know how much, but it was showing signs of doing something.”Nodding, taking that in, Remus tried to think. Quietly, he inquired, “What are you trying to do with the shields? I assume hiding something, but I'm not sure what.”“Not hiding, stopping,” Severus told him, sipping at his own tea. “We're trying to block the connection with the Horcrux. We have it stopped by artificial means right now with the potions. Lucius is taking the same ones and isn't showing any problems with them. They are only a stopgap measure. The Occlumency will stop the visions he gets.”Understanding, Remus nodded then sighed, “That shouldn't affect anything either.”“No, it shouldn't.” Severus told him with a shake of his head. Brow furrowing, Severus rubbed his eyes and something started to connect somewhere. He was getting a replay of the conversation he had with Harry after they had procured his wand. The one question the young man asked about how much magic he was directing towards blocking the Horcrux came to mind. Eyes widening, he stood then said, tone distracted, “Go get everything the library has on magical levels and what they can do.” Turning, he began to move towards the stairs, pulling his wand.Shooting Lucius a bewildered look, seeing the same kind of expression the man's face, Remus stood and headed towards the library, wondering what was going on.
Looking up as Snape came in, Sirius said, quietly, “No change. He's still sleeping.” Seeing the expression on the man's face, he asked, “Have you figured something out?”
“Maybe,” Severus told him, stepping over to the bed. Quickly, he cast a spell to get the reading on Harry's power levels. As he was aware of what they were now, he looked at the reading, eyebrows going up. Then he cast the one they found to determine the stage of adolescence then one for a more detailed look at his growth rate. Looking at that, he sighed, slumping. This wasn't good. Shaking his head, he said, quietly, “I think I have it. Maybe. Oh, Merlin.”Not liking that, Sirius leaned forward and looked at the man, brow furrowed, “What's up?”
“Come with me. If my theory is right, I'm going to need everyone's help brewing tonight,” Severus told him, determined bent to his voice. Calling an elf, he had the creature stay in the room with the promise to alert them if there was any change then motioned Black to follow.
Standing, glancing at his sleeping godson, Sirius then trailed behind the man.Once in the dining room where Lupin and Lucius were, Severus leaned against the table, hands planted on it. Quietly, he said, “Harry's power levels are even stronger than they were before. I think, as Lupin suggested, that this is a combination of several things. And I don't think we can stop it.”“What do you have, Severus,” Lucius asked, wary. He didn't like the sound of this.“The bond isn't the cause, it's the catalyst. It kicked up the two things that are causing it into higher levels. Harry's magic was being thrown at the Horcrux, a lot of it, to block the effects of something that doesn't belong in his body. Working with the shields, it's nullifying that and directing it elsewhere. That would be the nutrient potions. The bond also cut the other bond to the Dark Lord, in the form of the artificial Dark Mark, freeing up more of his magic. That appears to have jump started racing him through adolescence because he should be most of the way through it by now if the readings I just took are right. His magic is forcing his body to catch up with the aid of the nutrient potions.” Looking around, he said, quietly, “He’s being quickly forced through a growth spurt that should have already taken place. It's causing the pain. Merlin, he's going to grow rapidly for a week or so and end up where he should be. And I have nothing, nowhere, to stop it. St. Mungos might, maybe. Even that I don't know about. The only thing I can think that may throttle it back is rebinding his magic. And none of us have the power to do that. His magic would lash out and fight it every step of the way. As his power levels are higher than any of ours, I doubt we could overcome them.”“Oh, Merlin,” Lucius moaned, rubbing a trembling hand over his face. “We need to get him help, all there is to it.”“We do, in some way,” Severus agreed with a nod. “Even then, I'm not sure how much help even St. Mungos will be. His power levels are enough to derail most everything they would try.”Shaking his head, trying to think, Lucius said, “I have an idea. Get me every reading you can come up with on what's going on.” Looking at Lupin and Black, he said, “Put a glamour on and go get me some hair from a couple of people in town. Then Lupin and I will go see a dodgy Healer I know. With me being Polyjuiced, we might be able to get by. I can give up enough information he'll know he's dealing with someone that knows him. And I'll pay him well enough that he'll stay quiet. I'll see what he can give us to help.” Shaking his head, he said, “I hope you two left a note saying you'll be gone a couple of days because we're going to need help.”“We did,” Sirius confirmed with a firm nod, standing. “Give us some time. We'll be back shortly.”After assuring the two an elf would meet them, Lucius watched them go. Shaking his head, he said, “This is the best way I know, Severus. We need a Healer to look at him, but I'm not willing to chance that if we don't have to.”“We'll see what this does then go from there,” Severus said, straightening up. “Let me go start documenting everything I can and get the growth chart.” Seeing Lucius nod, he strode off, calculating what he had to do.
Looking at the list of potions and the instructions for them Lucius handed over, Severus was shaking his head. Lifting his eyes, he waited as Lucius and Lupin transformed back then asked, “Are you sure about this?”
“Yes,” Lucius told him with a firm nod. “The man knows what he's doing.”“I know who he is, Severus,” Remus told him softly. “The only reason he isn't practicing at St. Mungos right now is he was caught selling potions to feed a gambling habit. In fact, he was brilliant, one of their best Healers. I'm going to trust in this.”“We laid everything out, without giving names,” Lucius told him. “He said once this jump-starts, there is no stopping it. The best thing even St. Mungos can do is sedate him and dump extra nutrients down his throat until it runs its course. That and manage the pain. His magic is going to drive the whole process and there is nothing to stop it, not even rebinding it. We have a week of hell coming when it deals with Harry and what he needs, but it'll finish then. He'll be a full grown adult when it's over.”Rubbing his eyes with a slightly trembling hand, Severus shook his head as he read through what was there. “We have work to do, a lot of it. And I'm going to need help with some of this.” Looking at Kaliya, he said, “I want you to go stay with Harry. Any hint of problems, come find us in the lab.” As far as he was concerned, the snake would be far better at noticing issues than any of the elves.“I will, never fear,” Kaliya told him in a determined voice then began to slither in the direction of Harry's room.“Some of these the three of you can easily tackle and they aren't hard. Even the Draught of Living Death. I'll divide those up among you and get you started. A couple of the others I'll take on. I need to go to Spinners End and get some ingredients then probably rouse a few shopkeepers as well.” He sighed, trying to calculate what he had to do.“I think we're all going to need Pepper-Up for this, Severus,” Remus said gently. “Especially you.”“We are and I have plenty,” Severus confirmed with a nod. Shaking his head, he added, “And we're going to need help here. At night, we're going to need to arrange for one, or both, of you to be here until this is over. He can't be left alone once he starts taking some of this. Then we have issues of another kind like with clothes and shoes.”“Whatever it takes,” Sirius told him, crossing his arms over his chest and giving a firm nod. “We'll find a way to work with it.”“Alright. Let me go get changed and get you started, then I'll go get what I need. Lucius, make sure you keep an eye out for Kaliya. About every half hour, one of you go check on Harry. I should be back before the pain draught wears off and will give him another.” Shaking his head, stiffening his spine, he said, “We have work to do.” Seeing them nod, he went to go get changed, making a mental list of all he had to get his hands on to work with this.
A.N.- I don't normally do this, but can't help myself this time. HA! For all those that complained to me about some of those 'boring' chapters where not much was happening-- :P to you. I knew this was coming and was laying a foundation for it so NEENER :P LMAO! :D See? The author knows what she's doing! And those chapters weren't 'filler', as so many call them, but a foundation for things to come!
NEENER!
