Sirius
Lydia knocked on my door to signal that she was ready to go almost half an hour later. She hooked her arm trough mine on our way down. We settled at a table outside, and a waiter immediately appeared to ask if we preferred coffee or tea. When we had returned from the buffet with our breakfast of choice, I scanned the area, Lex was nowhere to be seen. Lydia seemed to have come to the same conclusion, because she asked me to elaborate on my earlier statement that it was complicated. I told her about Lex kissing Snape right before we took the portkey. Lydia’s eyebrows shot up as I told her about this, she had not seen that coming. ‘I’m not sure that she sees me in any other way than a friend.’ I told Lydia honestly. It killed me that I had lost her to Snape of all people, but if she really wanted to be with him, if she really loved him, should I interfere? Lydia didn’t say anything as the waiter took our plates. I could practically hear her thinking as she sipped her tea. ‘Do you truly love her?’ Lydia suddenly asked. ‘I’m willing to let her go if it means that she’s happy, even if it makes me miserable, so yes Lydia, I love her’ I said acidly. She held up her arms in mock surrender ‘just asking’ she said. I apologised for my reaction, and asked her if she would walk with me, offering her my arm. She forgave me, and we started walking towards the golf court that was in front of the resort. In the lobby we passed by Lex’ mother, Lydia politely enquired where Lex was. ‘she has a meeting with her father until lunch, she’ll have time for her friends then’ Mrs. Zabini informed her. I was surprised at the cold reaction from the woman who had shown me nothing but kindness. When we were out of earshot Lydia told me that Mrs Zabini disliked her in the extreme, because of her so-called bad influence on Lex. I was sure that both girls were well worth eachother. I could only be grateful that Lydia would never attend Hogwarts, for her and Lex together would be too much trouble even for Dumbledore to manage.
When we were outside again Lydia said ‘I could discretely try to find out if she has any feelings for you?’ It was a question, she wanted to know if I was ready for an answer to that. I told her to please find out, even if she wanted to be with Snape, I wanted to know. ‘There is one thing I don’t understand’ I told Lydia ‘If she wants to be with Snape, what is she doing with my brother?’ Lydia started laughing when I asked her that. I had a feeling I was missing out on something, again. When I gave her a puzzled look, she stopped laughing. ‘Oh my god, you really don’t know do you?’ she asked. She collected herself and told me ‘Regulus is as gay as father Christmas’ I stood perplexed ‘are you sure about that?’ it was quite something, and if she was wrong, it would hurt Regulus a lot if the wrong people heard this. ‘It’s not like he told me or anything, but it’s so obvious that I’m surprised that no one else has commented on it.’ She told me ‘I’m assuming Lex knows, and she’s covering for him by pretending that Regulus has designs on her.’ We were both silent after that, lost in thought. I contemplated what she had said about my brother. I could indeed not think of any moment where Regulus had given any sign of being interested in a girl, and he had so many female friends. Then again, it wasn’t as if I had ever noticed that he was interested in men either. Was Lex just e decoy? I decided to keep a close eye on my brother during this holiday, I was anxious to find out if Lydia was right about this.
We were walking on the dirt road towards the vista point when I asked her why she agreed to do this for me, as is surely wouldn’t help her in finding someone. ‘Oh you are greatly helping my situation along’ she said with a knowing smirk. ‘How so?’ I had wanted to know. She never told me, but I thought that one of the Malfoy guests had sparked her interest, but she was uncommonly tight lipped on the subject. ‘So, if you’re to be my pretend boyfriend for the coming time, let’s make sure we know all there is to know about one another.’ She said.
About two hours later we returned to the hotel, and by that time I had found out as much as possible about Lydia to be able to pose for her boyfriend. It had been her idea that, if Lex had any feelings for me, she would be jealous of our closeness. I had never seen Lex jealous, so I wasn’t sure that it would work, but I was willing to try anything to get a reaction from her.
When we reached the hotel, Lydia insisted on going back to the room. She wanted to change in her bikini and go for a swim, so I obliged her. I was waiting for her, sitting on one of the poolside cabana’s when Regulus walked up to me, he was dripping wet, as if he’d just come out of the water. ‘Where have you been all morning? We could have used you in the water polo game.’ That explained where he had been. Of course Regulus wouldn’t pass up an opportunity to play waterpolo. ‘I had breakfast with Lydia, and afterwards we went for a walk.’ I told him. I thought of what Lydia had said about Reg, but I couldn’t find a way to bring this up in normal conversation, so instead I asked him to tell me about the game. Regulus didn’t disappoint, he gave me a detailed account of the game, they had played boys vs girls, they would have slaughtered the girls had it not been for Bellatrix’ cheating. ‘Where is Lex this morning anyway? I assumed she would have played with the girls, but she was nowhere to be seen.’ Lydia, who had approached us, answered for me ‘she had a meeting with her father until lunch, according to her mother.’ Regulus acknowledged her, and asked her how she was. It seemed they didn’t really have anything to talk about, because Reg left us to it.
As soon as he had left, Lydia undid her dress to reveal a black bikini. She pushed her bottle of sunscreen at me ‘I’ll do your back, you do mine?’ she asked. I hesitated, rubbing sunscreen on her back seemed like something a house elf could have easily done. She lowered her voice so it wouldn’t carry ‘If you want to pretend, you have to do it right’ she told me. I looked around, looking for Lex, whom I was sure would still be with her father. She noticed that I was looking around for Lex and said ‘you never know who’s watching.’ I gave up and agreed, if she did my back first. She motioned for me to lay down, which I did. She straddled me, saying that she had better access to my back when she did so. When she was done, she announced that it was her turn. We switched places, and she undid the back strap of her bikini, and I decided that two could play at this game. I straddled her as well, and sprayed some of the cold substance on her back. She didn’t move, in fact her only reaction was her saying ‘nice try Sirius’.
Because of the relative privacy of the cabana I hadn’t noticed Lex’s approach until she spoke ‘don’t you look awfully cosy together?’ I felt, more than heard Lydia’s sharp intake of breath at the arrival of her friend. I took my time to fasten Lydia’s bikini strap, trying to buy me some time before I had to look up at Lex. Lydia thanked me and got up to hug Lex. ‘Would you join me for a swim Lex?’ Lydia asked her innocently. Lydia glanced my way, to signal that she didn't include me in the invitation. I laid down on my stomach again, all intention of going swimming forgotten seen . I felt thankful that I had, because certain body parts were very much aware that Lex was showing more skin than I had ever seen from her in that bikini.
I had a feeling that this was going to be a very long holiday.
