Cache looked around St. Mungo's to find the information he needed. On his way up to the Janus Thickey Ward he saw someone who could answer his questions. Two actually, "Minister Fudge, Mr. Weasley!"
Cornelius smiled, "It's good to see you, Cache. Are you bringing Ms. Granger again?"
"I was asked to bring both Ron and Hermione to testify." Cache confirmed.
"Good, then I'll meet you at the floo." Mr. Weasley said.
The apprentice frowned, "Couldn't I just bring them to the trial?"
"Unfortunately, no." The Minister sighed, "The condition is much worse than what was reported in the papers. In fact, we're putting him in danger just having the Wizengamot members and our two witnesses in the same room."
Cache's eyes widened, "He's that sensitive to magic!"
"It's so bad we can't even move him … actually, can I show you? It might be best if you saw so you can prepare Ron and Hermione and I know many have used the terms, but apparently it's not a wise idea to call this a trial. The goblins are in charge of sentencing Dumbledore not the Ministry so this is more a chance to present our side so trial and testify are poor word choices. It'll be more like a quick review to add more charges to the pile." The Minister sighed, no doubt wishing it was his case.
Th fake blue eyes widened curiously, "How are they going to sentence him? They can't take him anywhere since the act of transporting him could kill him. No one will let him take up an entire room long or allow a dementor in the building near other patients ..." Cache frowned at the impassive look on the older wizard's faces and sighed, "I see … I'll be bringing Neville Longbottom to see his parents too." He commented just to change the subject.
Arthur didn't even move from his spot as the Minister continued the conversation with Cache while taking the young wizard to the Janus Thickey door. They both went through the door and Arthur frowned when they returned. Cache, a person who was trained here as a healer, actually looked a little pale at what he saw. Before he could ask, however, he saw Molly running toward him.
"What happened? Where's Ron? Tell me, Arthur! Something happened during those ridiculous detentions, didn't it?" Molly demanded.
Arthur scowled, "That detentions were because he hurt Ginn-"
Molly scoffed, "Not by my Ronnie! It must've been the snakes. My child behaves."
"You're not here because your children are hurt, Ms. Prewett." The Minister said making his presence known to the witch.
"Ms. Prewett? I'm not-" Her eyes widened when she saw Arthur smile instead of coming to her defense.
"It would be best if you cooperate, Molly." Arthur warned.
The witch realized this wasn't a joke when two auror guards appeared out of nowhere from behind her, "YOU BASTARD!"
The Minister sighed, "Ms. Prewett, you are here by arrested for child abuse, conspiring to commit line theft and potioning a ministry agent-" Of course, Molly decided to struggle. She managed to get a nasty curse cast on Arthur before she was restrained by the aurors. After making sure Arthur was cared for, which was easy considering he was already in St, Mungo's, Cornelius turned back to a restrained Molly. "And I'll be adding assault to your list, which, thankfully, gives me jurisdiction instead of Gringotts. I need to charge someone today." He muttered jokingly.

Poor Neville was sitting next to Ron and Hermione inside the headmistress' office waiting for Cache to return. It was worth it for sure because he can get to see his parents at St. Mungo's while they're in the trial, but it still felt odd. They weren't being mean at all. In fact, they both seemed kind withdrawn. Still this was an awkward spot to be even with the two kneazles and Hermione's cat trying to brighten the mood …
Finally, Cache flooed into the room and Minerva looked up, "That didn't take long. What's the plan?"
Cache hummed in thought, "Everything is set, but I won't be allowed in the Janus Thickey Ward."
Hermione looked up, "Why?"
The apprentice winced, "Ok … you both remember the Daily Prophet said Dumbledore suffered a magical blowback, right?" He asked, mainly Hermione and Ron, seriously.
"Yeah." Hermione pondered a minute to recall the details that were released so far. "The details made public said that a magical blowout is where all of a witch or wizard's magic expands quickly before suddenly being forced out by the pressure and that's what Dumbledore suffered. It was implied that it could've been deliberate, but everyone was ruled out, right?"
Cache nodded, "Yes. The door to the Janus Thickey Ward is monitored and everyone recorded going through the door was put under veritaserum. Since everyone was cleared of attacking Dumbledore and no patients in the ward could walk it was ruled a natural blowout, which can happen. It was very serious for a natural one, but no one could've done it. However, I spoke to the Minister and … you both need to be prepared for what you'll see. The blowout wasn't just severe enough to make it dangerous to move him or even use veritaserum, but it badly burned him too. It won't be pretty." He said watching Hermione and Ron carefully hoping they unstood what they were going to see, but he knew it will be a shock no matter what he said. "Ron, your dad is going to meet us right outside the floo and take you both up to the Janus Thickey Ward. Neville, your parents and the other Janus Thickey patients were moved to the lobby level and are safe in the back room of the lab. Ok … everyone ready?"
"Umm … can I … bring Crookshanks?" Hermione asked hoping she could, at least, have something she knew there.
"Yes. Dumbledore' s condition is very serious, but mainly just affected by motion, touch and magic. As long as Crookshanks doesn't jump on him, it'll be fine … where's the Bloody Baron?" Cache asked finally noticing that Ron's ghostly chaperone wasn't in the room.
Minerva sighed, "There was a Peeves related incident and I asked him to handle it. He'll be here when you all return."
"Ok … that shouldn't be long. I was told that it should all be done by breakfast." Cache said getting a dismissive nod from the headmistress.
With that cleared up the three furry companions, young witch and wizards followed Cache to the floo. Hermione held her familiar close to her and they were consumed by the green flames. On the other side of the floo was Mr. Weasley with a sad smile.
The Weasley lord sighed, "Normally you wouldn't be called in to talk and I wish that was the case, but Dumbledore can't speak and since you agreed-"
"Why do you have a bandage on your leg?" Ron gasped when he spotted his father's wounded leg.
Arthur sighed, "Your mother had a few words for me." He sighed as his son looked concerned and confused, "I'll explain later. First, let's get this over with. The goblins just want a few words and we'll come back here." Hermione and Ron barely said a word as they were escorted up to the room where they had to speak. In no time, they were standing in front of the Janus Thickey Ward. "You don't have to be scared. This'll be done quickly." Arthur said and both kids visibly jumped apparently startled. "You know, there's plenty of evidence against him so if this is too much I can try and get you out of it-"
"No." Hermione spoke up not realizing that she was shaking until heard it in her own voice. "Thank you, Mr. Weasley, but I promised to speak in exchange for clearing any charges I have and … I have to, for myself." She said, subconsciously scratching her cat for comfort.
The Weasley Lord saw that both of them were serious and sighed, "Very well ..." He opened the door and lead them in.
To their surprise, they were made to immediately sit in the chairs that were awkwardly placed right in front of the door. Their seats were in the middle and the Wizengamot members were seated on either side. A couple goblins were standing only a bit farther in the room. As strange as the set up was it soon became clear why it was necessary. Everyone had to stay far away from the patient in the bed on the farthest side of the room.
Hermione and Ron couldn't stop their shocked and horrified gasps from getting out. There on the bed was what pathetic remains of Dumbledore. His eyes were unnaturally large and darting around the room in pain and the wounds would explain why. All over his skin were either bright blistery red burns or dark charred skin peeling away and falling to the ground. It looked like all his hair was torn from his head leaving dark red bloody dots where the follicles were. It was a frightening sight, but the goblins didn't seem to care.
The head goblin, Slashclaw, standing next to Griphook watched the wizards carefully, "Keep in mind this is our case. We are under no obligation to reveal any details from any source and we are in charge of sentencing and questions."
"We have viewed the memories given to us by Severus Snape, Minerva McGonagall, Remus Lupin and Alastor Moody. We have ample evidence, but you wished to offer more, correct?" Griphook stated not interested in giving away details that could incriminate anyone other than the man in the bed or reveal a child in hiding.
The Minister nodded, "Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley wished to say their side. First, I wish to confirm something. In your investigation did you find a passkey in Dumbledore's possession? I was potioned by the man and I remembered him taking my passkey during that time. I didn't want it to fall into the wrong hands."
Griphook scoffed, "A little late for that." Cornelius gave a short laugh reluctantly agreeing. "This we can tell you. Dumbledore knew before anyone else that Harry Potter got away from him. He used Remus Lupin and Alastor Moody, after telling them a false kidnapping story, to hunt Harry Potter down under the false impression of saving him. To help them he gave them a ministry level passkey that would get them through most legal and magical barriers, ministry and foreign ones. It was mainly for Remus Lupin who, as a werewolf, was restricted, but also the only one capable of finding him. A search that has also been taken on by Gringotts-"
Several members of Wizengamot objected strongly to the change in the search details and wouldn't shut up until the Minister himself roared, "ENOUGH! I made the decision to officially hand the search over to Gringotts because Harry is mostly in the muggle world somewhere and no one here actually knows how to navigate it. Most of our muggle-born aurors are too out of touch to be helpful and we can't waste time. Now this is not the matter we're need to discuss!"
Slashclaw nodded sharply, "Quite right. Minister Fudge, would you describe you passkey?"
Cornelius nodded, "It was a small cork from a bottle of fire whiskey and it was set to work for helping pairs of peoples get through. A max of three."
"Very good. That is the passkey in question and you can pick it up later at Gringotts. Moody, I'm sure, apologizes for using it to cork his flask. He didn't want to lose it." Slashclaw remarked not really interested in the subject. "Now, Ms. Granger, let's begin with you. What connects you to this wizard? Nothing you say will leave this room unless you reveal it."
Hermione felt all eyes on her and gulped nervously, ''He paid me to, as he put it, 'keep Harry on the right path' along with Ron. We were to talk him into things and out of other things as well as keep an eye on him. My family couldn't afford my school on their own so I thought this was the best way. I was never told about Gringotts' payment plans."
The eyes shifted to Ron and, after a nudge from his father, he realized it was his turn to explain, "It started through my mother. She always talked about getting rich and then she said I could help get us there. That's when she brought Dumbledore around. It sounded easy. I just had to hide certain things and pretend to be his friend. I was supposed to help get him and my sister together this year, but that never happened. Like Hermione, I was paid yearly. I know my mother was paid, but I don't know how much."
Griphook sneered, "What things were you meant to hide?"
Ron flinched, "He … he had some scars … I was to make sure the other housemates didn't see."
"Did you know of these scars, Ms. Granger?" Griphook saw the girl nod. "The information from the muggle investigation, a copy of which I have in my possession, revealed severe abuse. If it's accurate then that would be very noticeable on his body. Did you really see his starved body and scars and think it was fine to ignore it as long as you got your money?" Griphook snarled recalling the horrid state the boy he met was in when they first met. Much to the goblins' disgust the kids nodded albeit shamefully. "The wizard knew how to pass on his teachings I'll give him that."
Both students understood that barb. The goblin was comparing them to Dumbledore! That can't be right! Dumbledore was far worse! He ignored peoples' safety and manipulated everyone with lies to get what he wanted where they only ignored Harry's abuse and pretended to be his friend to get paid. At first they thought it sounded different, but the more they thought about it they started drawing some sickening parallels and it scared them.
"Is there anything else you wish add to his charges? The added charges will do nothing at this point, but it will be good to get it all on record." Slashclaw said.
Arthur nodded, "After some investigating it was found that Dumbledore was the one who helped my ex wife potion me." The goblins nodded and with that it was over. The humans were asked to leave, but as they left the Minister was heard reassuring Hermione that Lockhart was sentenced just last night. In fact, he mentioned that the details would be in today's paper. When they return for breakfast she can read up on it.
The goblins approached the bed ignoring the frantic wide eyes darting around for an escape, "This was a long time coming." Slashclaw said and nodded to Griphook.
"A … ttack ...ed." Dumbledore desperately croaked in pain when he saw an orb of light appear at the tip of Griphook's long claw. His skin crackled painfully and that simple light spell wasn't even close to him.
"It was ruled as an unusually severe natural blowback." Slashclaw smirked, "Of course, even if you were we'd only thank them." The basic light spell was pressed against Dumbledore and the wizard screamed before gargling up his own blood. With a quick scan it was confirmed. Dumbledore was dead ...

"I hope they're ok. Why were they moved to the back of the lab? I know they had to get everyone away from Dumbledore, but why the lab? Were they hurt in the blowback? I heard a blowback could hurt those near the victim too and they were right across from him, right?" An eager Neville absentmindedly pondered as they practically raced to the lab.
Cache chuckled as he grabbed Neville's shoulder, "Slow down, Nev. I need to use my ring to get in the back room." He said as they, at a far more careful pace, moved passed the healers currently brewing. "I need drop off some Skele-gro so you go on in." He said as he tapped the handle with his St. Mungo's ring.
Once the door unlocked Neville raced in taking the iPod out of his pocket so he could play them some music. Cache let the door close and left with his kneazles so Neville could have some time alone with his parents. He pulled a few boxes out of the bottomless bag in his pocket and stamped them with his ring before turning them in. So Neville could have more time alone he pulled a sketchpad out of the same bag and studied the unfinished rune sequence.
"I'll have to run this by Trocar … if I could just find the right connection ..." Cache pondered the runes and added a few marks with a quill as he tried to solve the puzzle, which was titled Moonlight Storage. He shook his head and used his wand to spell away a mark. "No … if I do that it won't hold 12 hours-ahh!"
As Cache mused his problem a healer ran over and grabbed his arm making him yelp as he was dragged away, "I've been dying to get you these results!"
"Results? For my Nerve Tonic? It's a bit early for that, isn't it?" Cache gasped as he nearly stumbled over Libra from being unexpectedly dragged. Just after righting himself she stopped in front of counter he originally turned his potion in to.
"Normally yes, but not this time. Ring." She gave a 'hand it over' motion. He did only to deadpan when he saw her press it to a little hanging picture of St. Mungo's symbol. A picture, by the way, that he could have reached even easier than her. "Thanks! I always wanted to do that!" She grinned as gave the ring back and reached into the passage hidden behind the picture to pull out some papers. "Here are the amazing results- … you ok?" She asked when she realized Cache was staring at the picture.
Cache shook himself out of his daze and smiled, "Yes, I'm fine. I just remembered something that could be useful for a new project."
The healer grinned as she handed the papers over to him, "I hope it's just as successful as this one!"
"Thank you." Cache said gratefully and walked away with his kneazles. After a quick glance at the report he nearly ran back into the lab and saw for himself. There, sitting up in their beds and coherent, was Alice and Frank Longbottom. According to the reports the pair could go home someday soon.
The prediction was that they'd be home around Yule …
"You've been so brave." A tearful Alice said as she held a crying Neville close. She looked up at Cache and gave a knowing smile. "So very brave."
Cache tried to keep his own tears from falling it didn't help, "Dumbledore-"
Frank Longbottom smiled, "Is gone." He laughed as the kneazles bunded up to their beds excitedly and patted Lyra who jumped on his lap.
The apprentice raised a puzzled brow. It was a little strange that they both knew already, but shrugged it off and set the reports down, "The reports on the Nerve Tonic are very positive. You should be home by Yule-"
"Wait, Nerve Tonic?" Neville sniffled as he finally looked at Cache through puffy red eyes.
"I submitted a potion a it was-oof!" Cache grunted as Neville nearly leapt into his arms in a big hug.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" Neville cried into his friend's chest.
Since he couldn't think of something to say he simply hugged back …

Mrs. Crippens threw a window open when she heard her sons yelp, "What's all the damn ruckus about? You're just supposed to be getting the Christmas up! What? Was there another squirrel or something?" She barked.
"Owl actually." One son said. There was, in fact, a beautiful brown owl perched in the very pine tree they were trying to drag into the house.
"It has a letter addressed to you, Ma!" Another son yelled.
"What?" Mrs. Crippens didn't even grab her jacket before walking out into the snowy weather. The owl let her take the letter and flew away before she even opened it. "Well I'll be. Damn clever rug rat!" She cackled after reading the letter, but looked off in the direction the owl went. "Trained birds like that must be rare … perhaps easily traceable … you all found this stuck in the door, got it? There was no owl."
Her sons and husbands nodded as she went in to call the police ...
