“Good.” Cornelius murmured as he secretly handed the compass to an Auror who was in that booth, but hidden by an invisibility cloak. The small sound of a pop told the minister that the Auror apparated away to get everyone ready to track ‘Rita’ down …

The dark blue occamy flew around Julian and Sally impatiently as they waited to start their task, ‘Finally! Those other fools made my human wait too long!’ Tanzanite hissed in annoyance when the groundskeeper named John returned to escort Julian and Sally into the arena just like the three teams before them.
Sally smiled, “It’s our turn, right?”
“Yep! Are you ready?” John asked, though he didn’t seem as concerned about these two like he was for the other teams.
“Yes! Yes! Yes! Let’s go!” Sally exclaimed cheerfully as she and Julian followed the groundskeeper.
Julian smiled, “You’re not very worried.” He said bluntly as he examined the calm aura.
John winked, “I know our school better prepares its students for this.” He said, basically saying that he went to Legerdemain in the past.
“That’s awesome.” Julian said as his occamy settled on his head. Only a minute later they stopped at the large arena door.
“And last, but not least. Legerdemain’s team!” The familiar feminine voice announced through the arena.
Tanzanite let a little flame flare out of his mouth in his anger when he recognized Rita’s voice, ‘That voice … it’s the hidden nasty fool.’ He hissed as the door opened letting them into the arena.
Sure enough, when they walked through the door, they saw Rita holding the bell. Of course, there wasn’t much time to think about it. They heard John leave the arena and close the door behind them leaving them alone. Barely a moment later their dragon appeared from behind a Boulder blasting fire angrily.
“You got this?” Julian asked casually as the pissed off dragon guarding the gold egg roared.
“Yep!” Sally exclaimed as she skipped towards the dragon.
Julian nodded and started walking towards the bleachers. Despite the cocky smirks from all the other competitors Julian went to the section they were in. As he took a seat he did notice that the minister was in that section too and seemed just as amused as he was at what was happening in the arena.
“So it seems Legerdemain isn’t so great. Where’s your little teammate? Did she start crying or something?” One of the Durmstrang asked in a condescending tone, making the other competitors laugh.
Julian looked away from the rocky arena and raised an eyebrow, “Did you not see what’s happening in the arena?” He commented before looking back at the arena.
All the other competitors finally did what everyone else was doing and what they saw in the arena made their smug jaws hit the floor. “Bloody hell!”
The entire arena was filled with large bubbles. One bubble in particular had the little girl inside. She was just smiling cheerfully and giggling, which seemed insane considering the pissed off dragon was charging at her to get the egg in her arms. To the surprise of many people there the girl just appeared in a different bubble every time it got too close to her. As that pattern continued the dragon was led farther away. However, one empty bubble drifted towards the section where Julian was.
Julian smiled, “The only ones who needed teams or extra help to prepare were your teams.” He commented and everyone watched the big bubble touch down in front of them. Once it made contact the previously thought to be empty bubble popped revealing that Sally was inside and holding the gold egg. “As you can see Sally didn’t even need my help.” He said proudly as he went to help Sally carry the egg, which was almost as big as her.
While many were shocked that the little girl came out victorious most of the onlookers soon broke out into applause. Of course, those from Legerdemain were the ones leading the cheering. There were a few, mainly the cheating competitors, who weren’t very keen on doing anything beyond reluctantly clapping. Soon the cheers died down and everyone waited for the points to be tallied.
Cornelius stood up in front of a crystal butterfly, “Time to announce the points!”
On the floating screens a series of stats appeared. There was fastest time, number of spells used and damage taken. With the fastest time of under 5 minutes, only 1 bubble spell used and no damage to human or dragon it made perfect sense that Legerdemain’s team got the full 10 points. As the points were decided everyone had to admit that Legerdemain won this round, which wasn’t easy for some people to accept. Especially the competitors, who didn’t seem happy about the scores.
Just as it looked like everyone was leaving the bleachers one of the members of the Hogwarts team scowled, “How did you do that? You must’ve cheated-“
“What kind of cheating could even be done with everyone watching? Besides, you guys had weeks to plan unlike me and Julian, right?” Sally remarked and the annoyed competitors from Durmstrang, Hogwarts and Beauxbatons suddenly became rather silent. “Yeah, Hogwarts told us.”
The minister went over to the 8 competitors, “What’s this about cheating?” He asked and noticed that Julian wasn’t really listening. Instead the boy had his ear against the gold egg.
One of the Durmstrang team members shook his head nervously, “Nothing, sir!”
“Oh?” Cornelius asked though he suspected he knew what happened.
With everything going on he forgot that the three schools had an advantage by being in the same vicinity as the tasks. If any details got out they’d be the first to know and sadly their egos probably didn’t let them share the information with Legerdemain’s team. Not that it made a difference here.
Sally smiled, “It’s ok, Minister.” She said and ignored the competitors, who looked relieved that she didn’t tell the minister, as she turned to her teammate. “Do you hear it too?”
Julian stood up revealing that he had a bubble around the ear that was against the egg and grinned, “Yep! I definitely hear it too.” Julian said as he popped the earmuff bubble. They waved goodbye before taking their egg and going to join their school group.
One of the competitors gasped, “Wait! Hear wha-“
“If I’m correct about that little conversation a moment ago,” the six other competitors froze and turned to look at the minister, who was deceitfully cheerful. “Then the six of you are already pretty good at getting information. Do you really need them to give you hints even though you didn’t give them the same courtesy?”
The six competitors winced, “No, Minister Fudge.”
“Good. I’d hate to see you display such tactics. It wouldn’t put your schools in the best light. Farewell.” Cornelius said hoping the other three teams would play fair from now on. “Rita! You were wonderful! You should definitely announce for the second round too. It’ll add some glamour to this event.” He said as he went over to the disguised wizard.
Rita smiled proudly, “Why I would be honored, minister. Those screens really are a fabulous addition!” She said excitedly as she picked up her drink.
“Yes … they are.” Cornelius muttered and quietly groaned when he saw Rita practically jump in front of a crystal butterfly just to strike a pose as she sipped her drink. The poor butterfly seemed as annoyed as Cornelius tried not to roll his eyes, but it humored her and projected her image on the screen even though everyone was leaving. “The camera does seem to love you.”
“It has taste. Not many do.” Rita commented and smirked. “Get me pictures of that.” She ordered the butterfly before grabbing her purse. “I’ll see you for the second round!” Rita exclaimed to the butterfly and she went towards the castle with the minister. “Do you think young Julian will sit out of each round like today?”
As Cornelius followed her he listened for the clacking of those high heels and shrugged, “Actually, no. I just spoke with him during the round. He plans to sit out the second round too, but he’ll do the third round.” He lied hoping to manipulate any of Dumbledore’s plots.
“Is that so?” Rita commented and Cornelius could tell she was thinking about something. “I’m sure the third round will be especially interesting then.”
The minister nodded, “We’ll see.” He said and allowed Rita to go ahead of him. “You won’t see it though.” He muttered under his breath the second the sound of Dumbledore’s heels disappeared through the floo in Severus’ office.
Severus came into the office and looked at the floo, “Hogwarts told me she left.”
Cornelius hummed thoughtfully, “Yes … and so is the rat, Peter Pettigrew.” He chuckled at the slightly shocked look on the newest Hogwarts headmaster’s face. “I was surprised too, but he won’t be causing any more trouble. Now if you’ll excuse me. I have to catch up with my own teams.”

Julian smiled when saw Cedric jump down the bleachers, “Told you it’d be fine.” He called over as the Hufflepuff ram over to him and Sally. The young green eyed wizard would’ve waved, but his arms were full of the gold egg.
“Fine?! That was awesome! You used bubbles against a dragon!” Cedric said to the little girl.
“Why thank you!” Sally chirped happily. “It wasn’t that much though. Don’t you guys know the bubble spell?”
Cedric shook his head, “We don’t know anything like that.”
“You will.” Cedric, Julian and Sally looked up to Severus and Brian headed down the actual bleacher steps that Cedric completely skipped over. “We’re planning some joint summer classes. It’ll slowly get Hogwarts adjusted to Legerdemain’s lessons.” Severus explained.
Cedric raised an eyebrow, “Interesting timing … is the tournament to help get that going?” He asked curiously as he followed Julian and Sally through the door in the wall that separated the bleachers from the arena.
Brian nodded, “I guess you could say a point needed to be made for it to be approved.”
Severus hummed as he subtly watched Rita and the minister out of the corner of his eye, “It’s hard to deny it after only one round.” He said as he patted Sally’s head. “Thank you for that. Now if you’ll excuse me. I need to make sure all guests leave safely.” He said and those who knew understood that he wanted to make sure Dumbledore left.
“Yes. It’s time for us to leave too.” Brian said and headed for the courtyard where the Legerdemain students were waiting.
Just as he headed off with his dad and ‘teammate’ Julian noticed disappointment flicker in Cedric’s soul, “If you want to start early I can give you some pointers and textbooks.”
“You wouldn’t mind?” Cedric asked wondering if he’d be bothering Julian, who did have classes in a different place.
“Not at all. You did care enough to try and warn us before.” Julian said with a smile as Tanzanite grew a bit bigger and curled around his neck. “Besides, I don’t plan on being busy for the second round.” He whispered and winked.
Cedric blinked and burst out laughing, “You brat! You’re going to let Sally do all the work!” He whispered back and watched in amusement as Julian went over and disappeared in a wolf made of smoke along with the others from Legerdemain.

Just outside of Rita’s home sat a team of three Aurors. The three Aurors waiting tensed when they heard a popping sound. However, it turned out that it was another fellow Auror and the three man team became four. This Auror removed his cloak and went over to the hidden tent the others were in.
“Round 1 of the tournament is just about to start.” This Auror said as he showed them the compass.
Auror Crystal nodded, “Thanks, Jack. My guess is our target will appear in 40 minutes if each Tri-wizard team takes 10 minutes to complete their task.”
Each of the Aurors took a guess on when Dumbledore would appear. Afterwards they immediately focused on the floo, which they could see through the window from outside. It didn’t take as long as any of them thought. Only about 30 minutes later they saw Rita appear in a flash of green flames.
Once they saw their target they saw the compass needle spin. It went from pointing in the direction where Hogwarts was, and therefore the Tri-wizard tournament, to the floo just inside the house. It confirmed that the compass was locked onto the fake Rita.
“The target apparated.” Auror Deut said and all their attention locked onto the compass. “We should take to the skies and see when the needle changes.”
In a few seconds the campsite was taken down and everyone mounted their broomsticks. Under the cover of their invisibility cloaks they took off with the person holding the compass in the lead. It took a few hours, but eventually the needle slowly moved meaning they were closing in on the spot. Soon after adjusting their course they were circling one particular building.
“Hogsmeade … let’s report to the minister first before doing anything.” Auror Duet said, clearly concerned about arresting Dumbledore in the busy magical area.
As they used their badges to report the information to Cornelius the team secretly looked around the building. The compass’s needle was trained on the Hog’s Head Inn. There was a closed sign on the door and a spell prevented anyone from seeing inside. On top of that they found some dangerously strong runes around the building keeping everyone out and possibly from hearing anything inside.
What made it worse was that they couldn’t start breaking the runes. It would take too long and Dumbledore didn’t even leave to send things to the Daily Prophet. He probably had a set up so he wouldn’t ever have to leave, which made everything harder. By the time they would get through the runes Dumbledore would notice, escape and take a new hostage. That was something they couldn’t risk.
According to the minister they had to wait to destroy the runes and save the real Rita after Dumbledore leaves. Thankfully, they knew exactly when he would leave next.

“Oh, I had such a fun time!” Rita exclaimed once she strolled into the room where her annoyed hostage was tied to the bed. “They had these wonderful screens floating over the arena and they got a fabulous series of pictures of me!” The fake Rita smirked down at the woman glaring at him. “Today got me wondering if a more permanent arrangement should be made. After all, I use this body better than you.”
The real Rita paled as Dumbledore chuckled. To her horror she could hear a bubbling cauldron in the next room. Was Dumbledore actually brewing a potion to truly take her place? It was that thought that made her wish that the people outside could hear her, but she tried before. No one ever even suspected that she was even held hostage let alone thought she was trapped there.
Dumbledore smirked and sipped on the last of the potion in his glass, “I can start that potion, but it will take awhile. Now while I make a fresh batch of Poly Juice potion let’s chat about how to kill Julian in the third round.”
