Chapter 31

Hetty Grindelwald arrived at Hogwarts early the following morning. She headed straight for Albus� office before most of the staff were even out of their beds. Lucy was still snuggled beneath her own covers, blissfully unaware of the discussion taking place about her.
�Albus, regardless of what you consider morally right or wrong, you know she cannot help the way she is. Gellert himself may not have held the legacy, but his urges were almost as strong and as passionate as Lucy�s, as were his fathers before him. I know the two of you were never intimately involved, but trust me when I tell you he was an extremely virile man, just like his father, and his before him. Lucy�s needs are no less simply because she is young and female, and they will remain so. She has no control over her urges, what she needs to learn is discretion. Until she finds a wizard with the stamina and inclination to satisfy her completely, her promiscuity will rule her.�
The old wizard sighed. How could he have forgotten Gellerts intense sex drive? As close as they were as young men, Gellert was not of the same persuasion as Albus, and frequently disappeared to find some young woman to satisfy his urges. �There must be some way of controlling her Hetty, the students will be arriving shortly and it is difficult enough as it is, curtailing the hormonal driven activities of the older students.�
�Well putting her under house arrest and assigning a house elf to watch her will do no good. Restrain her too long Albus and you know the consequences. At least she has the benefit of being immune to any kind of disease, and she need not worry about falling pregnant until she wishes it to happen. I will talk to her, suggest she at least shows a modicum of discretion, and explain why she is the way she is. I believe young Charlie Weasley was able to give her a certain amount of� shall we say, fulfilment, for a while. The boy had no idea I was aware of their dalliance during their trip. Most likely she engaged the twins because of her association with Charlie, but what she needs is a mature wizard, one who can take control, as well as give her what she needs. I had thought perhaps young Severus might be a positive influence over her.�

�Hetty no. Severus is a Professor at this school, he would never even consider a dalliance with one of his students, nor would I permit him to do so.�

Hetty cackled. �Oh come on you old rogue, I know full well that student/teacher relationships have been hushed up in this school since it was first opened.�

�Not while I have been Headmaster it has not.�
�That is as maybe Albus, but as I recall, you had something of an infatuation for one of your professors yourself during your sixth year. Can you honestly say that neither of you acted on that infatuation?�
The old wizard reddened, he had indeed entered into a brief affair with his Charms professor when he first discovered his penchant for preferring wizards, as apposed to witches.
�And I suggest you call off your house elf, my granddaughter is hardly likely to pounce on every male Professor in the castle simply because she is feeling randy. At least as long as she is not curtailed from taking her pick of available males as and when she feels the urge. And I doubt the male population of older students will complain.�

�Gran!� Lucy shouted when she saw Hetty emerge from behind the stone gargoyle that guarded the entrance to the Headmasters office. �You�re back, are we going home?�
�Yes, and then you and I will need to have a serious discussion.�

Lucy glowered at the Headmaster as he emerged behind Hetty. She said nothing, it was obvious the Headmaster had told her gran about what happened at Headquarters.

�So you�re not going to throw me out?� Lucy asked incredulously, once they were settled back home.
�Of course not child. You cannot help how you are, but you do need to be more discrete when acting upon your urges. When did it first take hold?�

�Gran! You can�t ask me that.�

�I can and I have. How old?�

�Thirteen.� Lucy mumbled.
�Thirteen. When you first engaged a boy, or when you first began to feel the urge? There�s no point blushing my girl, I need to know.�

�Thirteen when I first� did it. Ten when I first felt� you know.�
�That is rather young, no wonder you were so taken with the Weasley boy.�
�What? You knew about me and Charlie?�

�Of course I knew, I may be old but I am not blind. Remember I was married to your grandfather, and he too was a Grindelwald.�
Lucy sat picking at her nails. It was a relief to know she was not as abnormal as she originally thought, but at the same time she did not enjoy sitting here discussing her sex life, or lack of, with her grandmother. �And I can�t get pregnant, or catch diseases or anything?�
�That�s right. You will have your menses like any other witch, but you will not ovulate until you are in a stable relationship and both of you are ready to start a family.�
�Gran, Snape said that bloke has taken an interest in me. Voldemort. He said it�s because of my name.�

�Professor Snape dear, I will not tell you again. And yes, Albus did mention it, he heard you and the Professor talking last night. We will know more when Severus relates the details of his time with Voldemort, then we can decide what to do with you.�

�Do with me? What do you mean, do with me?�
�Lucy listen to me dear. I am old, and not in as good a health as I would like to be. It might be best of you were to reside at Hogwarts along with the rest of the students, rather than returning here each evening. Maxi would protect you as much as he can, but he is a muggle dog and has no special ability that would enable him to protect you against magical influence.�
�I�ll learn how to apparate then, like you do. That way I can just go straight from there to here and back.�

�No, it is not possible to apparate or disapperate from inside the boundaries of Hogwarts. You would have to exit the grounds a short distance, and that could prove dangerous if Voldemort decides to make a move on you.�
Lucy looked towards the fireplace.
�Likewise the floo. Only Hogwarts staff can enter the castle via the floo network, and it can be tampered with. It is not worth the risk.�
�Well what about one of those glowing things like Charlie had?�

�Port keys have to be registered with the ministry.�
�Gran, what do you mean you�re not in good health? �What�s wrong with you?�
Hetty sighed and moved to sit next to Lucy on the sofa. She took hold of her hands and brought them to her lips, kissing them lightly. �Lucy I am old, very old. Magical folk have a much longer lifespan than muggles, but even we are not infallible. I only wish we would have met sooner, I so want to be a part of your life, to see you blossom into womanhood, but I am well past my time already. When I discovered my time was coming to a close, I decided I wanted to return to England to die. No Lucy, don�t cry for me dear.� Old witch and young clung to each other, Lucy sobbing uncontrollably, Hetty letting her own tears flow for her granddaughter, not for herself. �I am sorry things have turned out the way they have, but fate is cruel at times and at least we have the benefit of knowing one another at last. I had hoped my sister Batilda would take you on, but alas her mind is not what it was. Albus however has promised me he will take on your guardianship if my demise comes before you are of age, so you will not be alone. Hopefully I will be around long enough to see you find a wizard capable of taking you on. A good wizard, one that will protect you, as well as satisfy your baser urges. I had hoped� never mind. What will be will be.�
