Chapter 31
Beta'd by the amazing Tenchi. You're the best, woman, and thank you!
Just a reminder of what's on my profile; reviews complaining or whinging about the lack 'o sex in stories will get deleted. If you want a smut-filled romp, you need to find another story to read.
Groaning as he shifted around, Harry rubbed his shut eyes. His whole body ached. It wasn't as bad as before he took the nap, but it was still there. Opening his eyes, he propped himself up on an elbow and looked around, blinking. Seeing Sirius there, he asked, bewildered, “What's going on? Did I sleep through the night or something.” It was then he noticed that not only was his mouth dry, really dry, but his voice sounded off too. He couldn't figure out that part or how it was 'off', just that it was.
“Oh, you slept through the night alright, Harry,” Sirius chuckled, grinning. Reaching out to rub his godson's head, he handed him a glass of water then sent one of the elves to alert Lucius and Severus.Feeling better after the drink, Harry shifted into a sitting position, legs dangling over the edge of the bed. Frowning, he looked down. There was something off about that too; he just couldn't place his finger on it. Shaking his head, he sighed, “Give me a few. I need to find the loo.”“Yeah, well, I think you should let me help you a bit there,” Sirius chuckled, standing and having his godson put a hand on his shoulder. “Until you adjust to the 'new legs' here, you're going to have some problems.”That made exactly no sense at all to the young man and had him shaking his head. When he rose, he stood there, shaking slightly. It was then he realized that he was taller than Sirius. Looking down, bewildered, he couldn't quite get a handle on the perspective he was seeing things from. “What in Merlin's name is going on?” He asked, completely confused, looking around then down at his body again. The first thing, aside from the fact that he seemed to be looking down from the perspective of being on stilts, was the fact that he had chest hair. Glancing further down, his legs also seemed to have more hair on them, a lot more. Startled, he looked at Sirius, who was just grinning at him.“Let's do the loo thing first here, then I'll explain. I imagine by the time you're done Snape, Lucius and Kaliya will have joined us,” Sirius said, starting to help Harry towards the loo.Though shaky and sore, Harry managed to get to the loo with no problem other than needing to lean on Sirius a little. Once in there, Sirius left him alone to do what he needed. Stepping back out, he let Sirius lead him over to the bed and helped him into a robe that wasn't his. That he was grateful for as he was just in some boxers.Sirius helped Harry over to the table, though it appeared his godson could walk easy enough on his own. He was still shaky, something Sirius worried about because he could easily fall. Calling for an elf, he told them to bring Harry something to eat then just grinned at his godson. “You scared the ever-loving shite out of all of us, Harry.”Taking a deep drink of his tea, Harry looked at him quizzically. “How? I didn't do anything.” Looking down at the robe again, something that didn't fit right as it was slightly above his wrists, he said, “This isn't mine.”“No, it isn't. It's Lucius' and it's still too small for you,” Sirius snickered, shaking his head. “Nothing of yours is going to fit anymore.”Thinking of all those new clothes Severus and Lucius had gotten him, Harry was confused. Fingering the robe, wondering why in Merlin's name he would have one of Lucius' to wear, he asked, “Why not?”“Know those aches you were having?” Seeing Harry look at him and nod, a confused expression on his face, Sirius pressed on, “It was growing pains, Harry. It's complicated and has to do with several things, but you went through like a massive growth spurt.” Grinning bigger, he said, “You're taller than all of us now! Lucius is close, but you're about an inch taller than him. We think, maybe, you finally quit growing. We hope anyway.” Laughing, he said, “You're definitely taller than your dad was! Snape said your granddad was a tall one, so you probably got it from that end. I'll let Snape explain just what happened and how, as he understands it better than the rest of us. Let's just say you're now a full-grown adult and did it in under a week.”Brow furrowing, Harry shook his head, “I don't get it.”“Snape will explain when he gets here,” Sirius assured him then looked up when the door opened. Seeing Malfoy and Snape, both looking relieved, with Kaliya draped over Lucius' shoulders, he nodded to them and said, “He just woke up. I'm explaining part of it to him now.”Seeing his young man awake, Kaliya slithered off Lucius then made his way to the table as fast as he could. Sliding up on to it, he coiled up in front of Harry, tail twitching in a happy way. “You're awake! We were ever so concerned about you, Harry! Yes, this is good. Do you feel better?”“I'm good,” Harry said reaching out to stroke the snake's head. “Just a little sore is all. Nothing like it was.” Looking around, he asked, bewildered, “What happened? Sirius just said something about a growth spurt.”Coming over and taking a seat by the young man, Severus pulled out his wand then explained what happened as he ran some diagnostics. Pleased with the results, he said, as he finished a brief explanation, “The growth has stopped, finally. Good. You're going to be on some powerful nutrient potions for about a year to put on weight. That's the only thing we couldn't balance out for this. We could only ensure you received enough nutrition that your body had the 'fuel' it needed to do what it was.” Sighing, pleased with that, he leaned back.Taking that all in, Harry nodded slowly, understanding. “Got it, I think. So the aches from playing were just a coincidence?”“It was,” Lucius said with a nod, pleased expression on his face. “You probably did ache from the game, then this started and you didn't notice the difference as they manifested the same way.”Looking at the robe he was wearing, he asked, “How tall am I? I mean, if I'm wearing Lucius' clothes and he was almost a foot taller than I was, that means I must have really grown.”“You are now about 6'4 and a half,” Snape said with a smirk. “Taller than all of us.” Seeing the startled look there, he said, “Though I'm not sure, I think that was the height you should have been if circumstances when you were young had been perfect, such as getting proper nutrition. You may not have reached that with how things were when you grew up. The whole process drove it to where you reached the height you should have. You're very thin right now, much thinner than Lucius and what you should be for your height, so we need to give you potions for probably a year or so.”Taking that in, Harry nodded then blew out a breath. “What are we going to do about clothes? Nothing's going to fit right.”“Remus and I are going to go get you a shite-tonne of them,” Sirius chuckled. “We'll manage, don't worry. Polyjuice is a wonderful thing. For right now, you're going to borrow some of Lucius' and they'll put a charm on them to where they fit. We got you some undies and that as we figured you'd balk at wearing his, but we'll get the rest today after we take the measurements. 'Cause we don't think you're going to fit into things like Lucius' shoes. You have some big feet, Harry,” he laughed. “And we have to tend to other things, nothing hard though, like shaving.”Nodding slowly, Harry sighed, rubbing a hand over his face. “This is really weird.”“We'll probably have issues with your hormones for a while. Nothing is wrong with them, but you got the whole dose of adolescent hormones at once,” Lucius said with a smirk, leaning back and folding his arms over his chest.“Oh, bloody wonderful,” Harry moaned, shaking his head. “Just what I need.”Hearing Black snicker at that, Severus smirked then soothed, “They are stable and not the out of control manner you get in adolescence as you go through the normal changes. They are just at a higher level than you're used to. Nothing more than that. It is probably just going to be odd to deal with until you get used to it.”Taking that in, Harry said, as Kaliya slithered into his lap and he began to pet him, “Good. Didn't want to deal with the whole nightmare of slammed at once the way I've seen some act in school when it comes to that.”“For a time, you'll probably be clumsier than normal. That has to do with adjusting to the increase in height. In a week or so, most of that should work itself out. You'll probably still have issues, of course, but it shouldn't last for long,” Lucius explained.“On the upside,” Severus told him, “your magic is now completely stable and adjusted to the right strength, because what was being directed at the Horcrux and the fake Dark Mark is now free and will channel correctly. That should make it easier on you when it comes to learning and the practical part. Some of the frustration you've been dealing with will be gone.”“At least there's a plus here,” Harry said with a grin, digging into his food.“There are several, though you may not see them as such,” Lucius said with an amused smirk. “You won't have to deal with the torturous adventure of the rampaging hormones and growth we all did. You acquired that in a week's time and it's now stable.”Snickering, Sirius added, “And you're probably going to eat Lucius out of house and home. You have a lot of weight to gain because of this.”Grinning bigger, Harry chuckled, shaking his head.“Something that isn't a problem,” Lucius said with an amused snort. “Teenagers are notorious for that anyway, so we're prepared.”Sobering up, Harry asked, looking around as he ate, “Are there any possible complications from this, like in the future or that?”“Maybe, possibly,” Severus told him with a nod. “This isn't something that happens often so there isn't much research into it. What we can determine is the most common one is you may develop arthritis early if you have it in your family line. From what we've figured out, we don't think you're at risk there. Neither side of your family has a history of it. It doesn’t mean it's completely ruled out, but it's a better than average chance you won't. For now, the only lasting effect is you're going to have sore, achy joints and muscles. That's your body adjusting to what happened. We were told to give you the standard potion for mild arthritis for the next three months and a balm to rub on a couple of times a day. It should work itself out in time as you assimilate to what happened and your joints and muscles adjust. From what we can tell, that's the only thing that there is a concern about, nothing more.”“Those I can deal with,” Harry said, polishing off the remaining food and leaning back. Shaking his head as he looked down, he said, “It's like I’m not even in my own body.”Nudging him, Sirius grinned, “Wait until you look in the mirror.” Seeing a startled look there, he soothed, “It's not that bad, but, like all of us, your looks changed as you grew. It's normal. Know how we all have told you how much you look like your dad?” Seeing Harry nod, Sirius said, grin growing, “You still do, a little, but you're now Harry. You don't resemble James as much as you did. Your eyes are still your mum's, of course, but you've grown into your own look, just like all of us did.”“Oh, goodie; I get to look at a stranger in the mirror,” Harry groaned, but understood what he meant.“Nothing to worry about,” Lucius told him, amused. “It was what would have come anyway. It just would have been so gradual that you wouldn't have noticed. You are quite handsome though. When this is over, you're going to need to beat the girls off with a large blunt object.”Grinning in an embarrassed way, Harry nodded, but said nothing.“Did you lot get a message to Remus?” Sirius asked. Seeing the two men nod, he said, “Good. How about we do this—let's get the measurements here. I'll then go snag him and what we'll do is pick up some basic Muggle clothes, like sweat pants and t-shirts. We'll send those back so Harry has something the right size to wear. Then we'll head to the other side of the country to grab everything else he needs. That's going to take some time as we're going to have to use smaller shops and divide it up so it doesn't look odd. When we finish, we'll send you a message and an elf can come get us. Work for you lot?”“Good plan,” Severus said with a pleased nod. “We'll get the book that has the spells to do the measurements and go from there.”
Sitting out on the back patio with Kaliya draped over his shoulders talking about all that went on and what he missed while he was asleep, Harry sipped at a milkshake an elf brought. Looking up as the door opened, he saw Lucius coming out. Seeing the man pull a chair over and take a seat, he asked, “Everything alright?” Sirius and Remus had sent a message over not long before with the clothes they had picked up, some of which he was already wearing, so he was wondering.
“All's well, Harry,” Lucius soothed, relaxing in his chair and crossing his ankles. “Severus will be out shortly. He's just checking on the nutrient potions that are brewing.” Looking at the young man, he asked, “How are you feeling?”“Fine,” Harry told him with a nod. “Still a little achy, but good. Everything is fine with Sirius and Remus?”“They're fine as well. They're working on procuring clothes and everything else you need. One of the things they imparted was that it would take several hours to get them as they are gathering them from all over the place. They'll send along what they buy as they finish at the various places.”“Good,” Harry said with a nod. Grinning a little, he said, softly, “I'm a little nervous about Sirius picking out clothes for me as I know him and he's apt to pull a couple good gags on me.”
Smirking at that, Lucius admitted, “He probably will and will come up with something completely outlandish. However, he did promise that he will get normal, not outrageous clothes. I would worry about the underwear though, as no one will see those.”Snickering and nodding, Harry said, “I already am, trust me.”Taking the drink the elf brought him, Lucius said, softly, after a sip, “You did worry us, a great deal. We weren't sure what to do. I also want you to know that if we hadn't found a solution, we would have taken you to St. Mungos.”“I figured,” Harry said, looking in his direction. “You'll get no complaining about not taking me from my end.” Thinking it over, he asked, softly, “How far did this set back any plans we have?”“It hasn't,” Lucius assured him with a dismissive wave. “Everything is going well when it comes to that end of things. All we really have left to work with is you and those spells. That's easy enough as you picked up the Mark very quickly. Nothing else we have to teach you will be any harder than that. The robes and masks are ready. Your godfather and Lupin have their throw-away wands and are working with them. Parseltongue is now second nature. Which means, we're right on track, Harry. The next step is when Severus can get his hands on Nagini. Once that happens, we press on as planned.”“Good. I was wondering about that.” Harry told him. Looking out over the yard, he said, grinning a little, “Looking in the mirror now is right unnerving. It's not the face I'm used to anymore.”“I can only imagine,” Lucius said, looking entirely amused. “Black has made it crystal clear to all of us that he gets the honor of teaching you how to shave. Hexes were promised if he wasn't, vile ones I don't even want to ponder. And I'm sure he knows the ones he threatened us with. He's going to attend to that before he leaves tonight, at least the basics. Beyond that, Severus and I will take over from there.” Lowering his voice, he said, “With what happened, it's going to be required now.”“I figured,” Harry said with a sigh. “Probably other things I'm not used to as well.”“I'm going to suggest that, for later in life, you start ensuring you exercise an hour or so a day. Right now, your body is going to demand a great deal of 'fuel' for what it needs. As we aren't concerned about your weight, you need to eat what you want, when you want. If you get in the habit of exercising, this trend won't make it to where you put on weight later in life as your body slows down.”“I didn't think of that, but its a good idea,” Harry admitted, reaching up to stroke Kaliya's head.
“Swimming or playing with the Quidditch set is good exercise and something you enjoy. Those will suffice,” Lucius told him, looking up as Severus came out. Quietly, he added, “We left a book in your room for you to read on body changes and what to expect, beyond the ones I'm sure you know about. Some won't be applicable because you're through the worst of it, but it'll give you an idea what to expect and how it's normal.”“Yeah, that's probably a good idea,” Harry grinned, chuckling softly.“It was our assumption that your odious family never covered the topics with you and that no one else thought to do so,” Severus said after taking a seat and sipping at his tea.“They didn't,” Harry confirmed.“If you have any questions, come to us or talk it over with Black. It's normal, natural and confusing,” Severus said, keeping a soft tone. “Nothing to be ashamed off, especially since you experienced no gradual lead in to them the way almost everyone else does.”“Didn't think of that either,” Harry grinned. Looking down at his legs, he laughed, “'Cause it's all really strange right now. I have fur in places I didn't before or more in places I did. It's really odd.”Snorting at that, Lucius shook his head, smirking, “I can see where that is odd.”“There will, most likely, be other odd areas as well, Harry,” Severus told him, looking amused himself. “I would suggest, for the first week or so, that you be extra careful when it comes to physical activities, even something as normal as walking. You're still adjusting, so you'll be clumsier than normal. Just take it slow and easy, though I know you won't always remember to. And anything odd at all, get with one of us so we can determine what's normal and what isn't.”“Will do,” Harry said with a firm nod. “Is there anything I need to keep an eye on or watch out for?”“The joint or muscle pain,” Severus said firmly. “If it keeps getting worse, let me know. For a time, you're going to have problems. If it keeps getting worse for no reason, tell me. We need to check that. Other odd pains as well that you can't attribute to anything else.”“I'll remember that,” Harry told him.Leaning over, Lucius said, lowering his voice, “And we can both safely say you scared the wits out of all of us over this. We had no idea what was wrong. It was Severus that figured it out. We were also stunned by the fact that Black is actually quite good at brewing.”“How did you figure it out?” Harry asked, looking at Snape.“It was something you asked me that put it together,” Severus admitted then walked him through how he managed. “And, yes, Black, when he has the proper motivation, is very good at brewing. None of us even had our hair turned odd colors as a joke while doing it, something he was known for in school.”“Yeah, it's amazing what he can do when he wants to,” Harry agreed with a nod. Quietly, he then said, “Thanks for taking care of me. It's appreciated.”“Nothing to thank us for, Harry,” Lucius said reaching over to pat the young man on the leg. “It's part of our responsibility to you.”“Agreed,” Severus nodded. Smirking, he added, “Just don't scare us like that again!”
Laughing, Harry said, “I'll try not to, I promise.”“Now, we thought that taking the week off from lessons is a good idea,” Severus said, relaxing. “We're going to check to make sure your magic is functioning as it should, of course, but we anticipate no problems. We're also going to work on your shields. There is still some of your magic being thrown in that direction as we don't have the connection completely blocked. However, what's left shouldn't cause an issue and won't be noticeable as it's not the volume that set off the problem. I doubt you'll even notice when it's fully freed up. Unlike with the binding of your magic, this won't affect your wand as it was already free when we replaced it.”“I was wondering about that,” Harry said. “Good. I didn't want to go through that again.”“We didn't either, I assure you,” Lucius snorted, shaking his head.
“You'll probably feel more tired than normal as your body compensates for what happened as the best we could do was give you nutrient potions. That's to be expected and nothing to worry about.” Severus continued on. “Just be mindful of what you do is all I can say. Even simple things you're going to have to compensate for as you're so much taller. Remember that. Though, I suppose, you're going to end up smacking your head on several things before you can safely judge heights again and what you can easily do.”“Didn't think of that either,” Harry snorted, shaking his head, but grinning. Looking down at his now unfamiliar body, he said, quietly, “I never imagined that I would get so tall. I've always been about the shortest one in class.”“You may not have,” Severus said then went on to explain. “Your magic pushed for the optimum in height. We very rarely, any of us, reach that due to many factors. If I were to guess, you probably would have made it to about six foot if it went normally, something average. This just gave you a boost.”“When we do turn back up, people are going to have a bloody heart attack,” Harry laughed.“Oh, yes,” Lucius smirked, amused by that. “The reactions will be most amusing.Pressing on, Severus explained the potions the young man would be taking for the foreseeable future and what to watch out for there before moving on to other topics.
