"I'm speaking"

Her sons and husband nodded as she went in to call the police ...

"Make sure you all keep in contact with your group members over the holiday break. It will help when you have your presentations after you return and that's the same for those teams from Trocar's class as well. You can use small spells in areas like Hogsmeade so if you want to meet your teammates to practice you can try that or rent a potion lab in Knockturn Alley. Professor Snape and I have done that before so I know it's a good idea. If I don't see you off tomorrow have a good Yule!" Cache smiled and waved at the students leaving the potions classroom.
Hermione and Ron stayed after for a moment looking nervous, "Umm Cache?" Ron asked.
Cache looked up from the desk where he was gathering some papers and putting them into a bottomless bag, "Yes? What's wrong?"
"Since the professor is ill could you sign these?" Hermione asked as they each handed Cache a form.
"A job slip?" Cache observed as he looked the slip over. "You both wish to work part time at Hogwarts during school and over breaks?"
Ron avoided eye contact, "We have some things to pay for." Ron admitted softly thankful that Cache didn't ask for any details. Neither of them wanted to explain that they had to pay for what they spent of Harry Potter's money.
"Hmmm you're asking for several jobs, I see." Cache hummed in thought, "So you want to rearrange the Room of Requirement, complete assistant jobs for any professors and map out the Chamber of Secrets?!" Cache exclaimed more than shocked that the goblins offered that last option or that Minerva signed off on it!
"It's not like that! We're going with a team of goblins to assist them … and you? I think …" Hermione said not sure why Cache needed to be involved with the third option. The second option made sense because Cache was filling in for Professor Snape, but why the chamber?
Cache absentmindedly shrugged, "Fun fact, 1 in every 200 witches and wizards, regardless of any relation to the Slytherin family, actually can speak parseltongue and that's needed to get in the chamber. I helped out once before so I'm not surprised that they'd ask though I doubt I'll be allowed to go in after that basilisk incident." He said casually before pulling out a pencil and signing.
Out of habit Ron opened his mouth to say something insulting towards snakes, but stopped and thought about what that fact really meant, "So … Voldemort wasn't the heir to Slytherin? … what basilisk?!"
"The basilisk is long gone." Cache said far too casually. "As for Voldemort … Maybe, maybe not." Cache shrugged as he handed them the signed sheets back. "Really all it means is that Parseltongue is another skill some people have and isn't a sign of evil. Hardly important. Now I'll owl you a list of things you both can assist in so you're ready by the time you both return from the Yule break … something wrong?" He asked as he spotted the look of concern that passed between the two.
An awkward silence passed before Hermione spoke, "Is it … are you one of the teachers … I mean the paper said ..." Hermione's voice started shaking so badly that she couldn't say anymore, but Cache seemed to understand.
"You want to know about Harry." Cache stated calmly. He sighed when they nodded, both were close to tears. "The whole point is to keep Harry away so he can heal. Both physically and mentally. If I was one of the chosen teachers I bet a vow was made to protect him so I couldn't-"
"But we just want him to know we'll pay it back-" Ron slapped his hand over his mouth to shut himself up, but both he and Hermione knew it was too late. What they didn't realize was that Cache knew about their debts already. After all, it was his money.
"Pay?" Cache said pretending to be confused by what they meant since this was the first time they ever mentioned their role to anyone. "Are both of you trying to pay for more than school expenses?"
Hermione made a slight noise as if she was trying to not cry, "We … we did something stupid and Dumbledore paid us. The goblins didn't apply any interest, but we still owe a lot." She choked out.
"Yeah … my mom made it worse for my entire family too by spending everything she got and trying to bring Ginny into the scheme. I'm glad Ginny didn't know. She couldn't spend what she didn't know about so she doesn't have to go through this … I just wish I could see my sister this Yule." Ron said. He has been trying to make amends with his family for everything. Despite that and the fact that his mother would be in Azkaban for severals years Ginny was still going to stay with Charlie over the breaks. It hurt Ron, but he knew it was his own fault.
"I see." Cache sighed, "You shouldn't worry about Harry Potter. After all, if there's no interest then Harry must've asked them to do that. Any goblin would've drained you for a client unless instructed otherwise, which could mean that Harry probably isn't too mad or, at least, doesn't care about money."
Ron and Hermione exchanged a glance, "Didn't really think of it like that." Ron muttered.
"If you really want to contact him you might be able to do that through Gringotts. However, don't push anything." Cache smiled as they seemed to relax a bit. "Now I have to go to St. Mungo's to pick up some friends. I won't be here for the rest of day nor to see the train off tomorrow so have a great Yule and good luck on your team projects. I'm happy to see that you both seem to be working with others quite well." He said and gave Ron a comforting pat on the shoulder. The redhead smiled softly.
Hermione beamed, "Yes, thank you! Have a happy Yule! … and ummm … could we talk about some things when school starts again. It's just Fred, George and I were thinking of a business idea and we need your advice on modifying muggle items."
"Of course. We can chat during school and there's no need to thank me." Cache said and waved goodbye as he left the room with Lyra and Libra. The fact was that they did have to thank him. It was his idea to make everyone in DADA and Potions work on a group project or two. Cache hoped making Ron interact with some Slytherins might open his mind a bit more and it gives Hermione a chance to make friends. So far it seemed to be a good idea. Ron was actually making friends in his mainly Slytherin group and Hermione was warming up to a lot of people.
"Let go!" Cache and the kneazles broke into a run when they heard the scream that sounded like Draco. They quickly came on a scene that looked like Greg Goyle and Vincent Crabbe actually trying carry Draco down the hall. Of course, a pissed off Blaise was hot on their heels, but they had a very good head start. "I said let me go!" Draco barked and used the very barrier he learned in class to repel them away from him.
"Nice use of the barrier." Cache praised Draco as he stood next to the blushing Malfoy. When he saw Greg and Vincent stand back up he stood between them and Draco along with the kneazles so they couldn't take Draco again. "What's all this about?" He asked seemingly quite calm, but he was ready to fight if needed.
Greg looked frantic, "You don't understand! The other Death Eaters are going to be executed soon, which means they might take the Malfoys down with them!"
Vincent nodded in a panic, "Please come with us to the infirmary-" Both Greg and Vincent looked shocked as Draco removed a necklace that had a Knut attached to it and threw it down the hall! What baffled the two Slytherins the most was what came next.
"If you're worried about the lethal trackers I moved them off all the Malfoys months ago." Cache said casually.
"They're gone?" Greg and Vincent sank to their knees in relief. "Thank Merlin."
Draco frowned, "You both never seemed to care before."
Blaise huffed, "Beyond borderline stalking Draco, that is."
"Of course! We had to watch him! Someone had to keep him safe when he pisses people off!" Greg barked.
Vincent nodded and glanced at Blaise, "and you know he had a tendency to pick fights with Gryffindors. We wanted to have his back … as for the trackers … our fathers made us watch you, but they only meant watch. Anything beyond that was our decision … and we wanted to be friends-"
A harsh snap was heard and a crackling noise soon followed catching everyone's attention turned towards the sound. It turned out to be the coin Draco threw. However, it really couldn't be called coin anymore for it was on fire and slowly melting.
Draco paled, "Someone seriously triggered them."
Cache looked at the puddle of what once was a knut, "Whoever did that is going to be in for a shock if your parents are watching the executions." Draco smirked knowing that his parents did indeed plan to be there. "Do you want to go?"
"Yes. I have everything packed and waiting in the headmistress' office." Draco said as the kneazles nuzzled his hands.
Greg winced, "You're leaving?"
Vincent frowned in concern, "Is it because of us? We are sorry-"
"It has nothing to do with you two." Blaise rolled his eyes at Greg and Vincent's confused faces. "He was planning on skipping the train since Professor Snape started feeling ill. He's going straight to Cache's place to check on his godfather."
Both Greg and Vincent pouted, "How were we supposed to know when you guys never let us listen to your conversations?" They both said genuinely hurt by being left out.
Draco mentally winced as he realized Greg and Vincent were going to be losing their family members in the executions, but they still tried to help him. Maybe they were telling the truth and, if so, he couldn't let them spend Yule alone. "If you want we can spend Yule with me and we can start over." Draco offered.
"Yes!" Greg and Vincent both yelped eager to take this chance to form a real friendship.
"Ok … I'll owl my parents. They'll pick you both up when the train stops. I'll be at the manor when you guys get there tomorrow." Draco said while smiling at them.
Blaise smirked, "That gives me an entire train ride to discover how truthful you're both being."
Cache chuckled as he saw Greg and Vincent shiver in fear of yet another person with a mother owl persona, "Now, now go easy on them, Blaise. They seem to be telling the truth to me." With that situation handled Cache and Draco headed to the headmistress' office to floo to his apartment.
"Still not using Severus' floo huh …" Draco commented as he carried his owl's cage as Harry brought his trunk into the apartment. He was still curious as to why Harry suddenly became so hesitant to go into Severus' living quarters.
An amused smirk came to Harry's lips, "I'd hate to interrupt some intimate moment." He chuckled as a light blush appeared on Draco's cheeks. "Granted it isn't a problem right now what with Sanguini keeping Severus occupied in their room until he's better, but can't be too careful. I need to pick up the Longbottoms soon. Do you want to see Severus now or-"
"Not yet. I'll first owl my parents to tell them I'm with you and about Greg and Vincent." Draco said as he let his owl out onto the perch to sit with Hedwig.
Harry smiled, "That was nice of you." He jumped slightly and rolled up his long sleeve revealing a tattoo of a wooden circular door surrounded by vines.
Draco looked at the tattoo, "Is it moving?" He asked curiously. It wasn't strange to find a magical tattoo moving, but there was something unique about the way the door was moving that was different than normal.
"Yes it is … I'll make you some hot chocolate when I get back and explain. Just so you know I've developed a hatred for ink pots after some much grading so there's only pens and pencils." Harry shrugged at the confused look on Draco's face. "Muggle writing tool." He answered the silent question.
Libra and Lyra curled up near Harry's couch as Draco sat down to write. Harry suppressed a snicker when he saw the puzzled look on Draco's face as the Malfoy inspected the pencil. With his guest settled in Harry went back to the fireplace and flooed away to St. Mungo's.
"Hey Cache!" Cache smiled as Alice and Frank Longbottom came up to him.
A healer came up and stopped them, "Hold on! You need to sign out and I need Cache to sign some things too." She said with a smile and handed Cache three packets of forms and a quill with an ink pot.
"Something wrong?" Frank asked when he saw Cache's eye twitch.
"So much spilled ink." Cache groaned with a sigh, much to the Longbottom's amusement, before signing the papers saying he checked them out. After completing those forms he let the Longbottoms sign the rest as he moved to the second packet he was given. "Wow." His eyes widened as he read the second packet. It was not something he had to sign, but instead it was a set of final results on his Nerve Tonic complete with a stamp of approval. "It's done." He said with a smile. The packet in all was a certificate saying testing was done and that he could use toasted ground kneazle whiskers again.
"So are we." Alice smiled and handed the check out packet to the healer.
"I'm sure it'll be nice to go home." The healer smiled, but quickly pouted when Cache gave back the third packet without signing it. "You're not going to sign it?"
Cache frowned as he slipped his certificate into the bottomless bag in his pocket, "Does St. Mungo's still abide by the 'no creatures' policies?"
Healer blinked, "Yes, but-"
"I have family who are creatures and even if I didn't I'd rather not sign a job application for a place that won't allow creatures." Cache said casually as he guided the Longbottoms to the fireplace. They flooed away and into the Longbottom Manor. "Neville will be home tomorrow so do you want-" Cache was pulled into a hug by Alice.
"We'll handle that … you've done so much already … too much." Alice cried softly as she hugged him. Finally, she slightly let him go to look at him properly. "You may look different, but I always knew." She sniffled brushing away some tears. "You told us a lot, but not about this. How did you do this?" She asked playing with a lock of the fake blonde hair.
Cache chuckled, "It was what lead to my Nerve Tonic-well … not exactly. I made a simple potion to color my hair and eyes and I needed a binder. I only had kneazle whiskers at the time, but when I saw what the kneazle whisker did I used regular untreated kneazle whiskers and later on a different binder. The Nerve Tonic was only toasted ground Kneazle whiskers so I couldn't use exactly that for anything during the testing process. My coloring potion did it's job, but doesn't heal or fix the color blindness with the regular Kneazle whisker or the other binder. That was only the treated kneazle whisker."
Frank raised an eyebrow, "Color Blindness? Your father had the same problem. His family tried to hide it, but we knew. So if I'm right you can use treated kneazle whiskers now."
Cache grinned, "Yep! That was my certificate. My potion is ready!"
"Well at least someone has talent." Everyone turned towards the harsh voice of none other than Neville's grandmother. Granted the woman was happy to see her son and hugged him, but Cache couldn't help but notice that the old witch gave Alice the cold shoulder. Not only that, but the warm fuzzies didn't last long at all before she went straight into saying rather harsh things. "I'm glad you're back. You need to do something about your son. He's a disappointing coward that's one step above a squib-"
"Neville saved me from death. He's by far the bravest person I have the honor of knowing and being friends with. As for his magic, it has improved dramatically over the last few months. Of course, that's to be expected when you bother finding a wand that actually works for you instead of a hand me down. Don't worry about thanking me for doing what you should have done in the first place. I actually give a damn and was happy to do it." Cache said condescendingly shocking the old witch so much she was at a loss for words. He took this chance to hug both Frank and Alice before leaving. If he didn't leave quickly he'd keep biting the witch's head off and that wouldn't do. Besides, he had a feeling Frank and Alice had a few harsh words of their own for the witch about her loving care of poor Neville.
Harry flooed back just in time to see Draco sending his owl off with a letter, "How about that hot chocolate?"
"That'd be nice. Sanguini came in just a second ago saying Severus was still tried, but he'd be here in a few minutes." Draco said clearly worried about his godfather. Despite being so distracted his attention was almost instantly caught when Harry showed the tattoo again and tapped it. Much to his surprise the tattoo door slid open and steam came out. "What is that?!" He yelped and jumped up to look into the dark abyss in Harry's tattoo.
"Hot chocolate." Harry said with a playful smirk as he actually placed his finger on one of the tattooed vines and slid it. The vine actually slid with the finger and Harry continued dragging the vine along his forearm until Draco could see a tiny kettle tied to the other end. The kettle was raised up to the point where the kettle on the other end came up from the darkness and actually grew to a full sized kettle when Harry pulled it out of the tattoo.
"You know what I mean. What kind of tattoo is that?!" Draco pouted as a cup of hot chocolate was set down in front of him complete with lots of tiny marshmallows.
Harry smiled as he poured himself a cup and sat down, "This is the answer to Severus' notes on that possible cure we're working on. The concept is the same as an enchanted painting, but it is a tattoo instead of a portrait. The vines will raise and lower things on or off the burner inside and it will provide complete darkness. I did a little testing with several basic potions already and this will work."
Draco groaned in mock exasperation, "When Severus hears that he'll get covered in tattoos." Draco said teasingly and they both laughed at the thought of seeing a Severus covered head to toe in tattoos. A peaceful silence passed for a few minutes as hey sipped on their warm chocolaty beverage, but it didn't stay that way. "Who are the Crippens? The Daily Prophet said the Crippens reported your safety to the muggle police, but why them? What are you planning?"
"The Crippens are the only other muggle people I know and they made it possible for me to be here by getting my trackers out of the country, albeit unknowingly. They're good people and they only reported that Harry Potter contacted them claiming that he found his godfather and was safe." Harry said, but found himself meeting the no nonsense look in the silver eyes and chuckled. "Ok, ok. The reason I went through them was to imply that I was still in muggle world."
"But people here already believed that because of the way your abuse got out in the first place and Gringotts did make a statement on that so it's obvious that you're connected to magical world more than muggle." Draco said pointedly.
Harry nodded, "True. This was a way to get people to stop wasting time and resources trying to find me, but still remain hidden. I contacted the muggle side first knowing magical world was watching. When they did latch onto the story they would no doubt contact Gringotts for confirmation. The goblins simply had to admit that they found me and secretly got me to my godfather."
"Well it wasn't perfect. It was reported that random teachers would be chosen to teach Harry Potter while he recovers instead of making go back to school-" A smirk came to Draco's lips. "They aren't random teachers, are they?"
"Only if you call Severus, Trocar, Minerva, Poppy and …" Harry's smirk widened.
Draco burst of laughing, "So you and your friends are vouching for Harry Potter's existence. An existence that's separate than Cache's and pretending to tutor Harry Potter allows you to spend time with Sirius and Remus without suspicion … that's actually quite clever."
"Actually?" Harry gripped his chest in mock hurt. "I have a good idea once in awhile, you know?"
"Oh? And what's your brilliant plan for when the muggles find your relatives?" Draco knew the second he saw the flicker in Harry's eyes. "They won't be found, will they?"
Harry took a slow sip of his drink to stall as he figured out what to say, "Most of them will never be found."
Draco raised an eyebrow, "Most?"
"I have a cousin around my age. I don't know the exact details, but … well, obviously no one here would actually hurt a kid and Armel disappeared for a little while before what I think was the time the others …" Harry trailed off implying that he meant the demise of the adults. "There was a tiny hint of an orphanage and later on a tiny hint of an adoption. It wasn't mentioned directly, but …" Harry trailed off and shrugged. Nothing more was said, but Draco got the picture.
"That's comforting … I think. I'm glad there won't be any surprises there unlike Dumbledore." Draco grumbled as he added more marshmallows making his drink more of a hot marshmallow goo, which Harry found very funny.
"Yeah." Harry sighed, "I was planning on getting Moody back for slicing one of my friends arms off, but after hearing about that … it didn't seem right."
"No one expected to find more ghouls in Dumbles' closets after his death least of all a dead Auror when the Three Broomsticks tried to move back to Hogsmeade. Poor girl probably didn't even know what she walked into when she tried to investigate many of the stores in Hogsmeade being bought out." Draco frowned before sipping his mushy drink.
"Moody blames himself for even remotely believing Tonks' when she claimed to go on vacation … and for making it clear he trusted Dumbledore at the time. Perhaps she wouldn't have tried investigating alone if he hadn't." Harry said solemnly, "I wonder if-"
"Enough! I can't take this grim subject. Talk about something else." Draco demanded wishing the Dumbledore shit would just go away already.
Harry chuckled, "Ok, ok. How about this?" He pulled out the certificate and set it on the table. Draco smiled and was about to congratulate Harry, but Harry held up a finger to signal he wasn't done yet before getting up to bring over a lamp. The lamp was a regular muggle desk lamp without a light bulb and had runes inside the lampshade. "Watch this." He tapped the lampshade and the light turned on, but it wasn't a normal light.
Draco's eyes widened, "Wait, is that moonlight?"
Before Harry could say anything Severus walked in and he instantly recoiled when he get an eyeful of bright moonlight, "Turn that bloody thing off!" He snapped crankily.
Harry chuckled, "Oh, come on. You give Sanguini a full moon all the-ah!" Harry dove for cover behind the couch nearly landing on Libra as he tried to hide from the shockingly large flurry of hexes Severus was sending his way. Even Draco had to get out of the way! "Damn Severus! First the sickness now your temper! Are you pregnant or something?"
To everyone's shock the hexes suddenly stopped. The silence that followed was a little off and it prompted Harry to look over the side of the couch. He saw that Severus was frozen in shock. With a glance at Draco both Harry and Draco got up. Draco gently guided a dazed Severus into a seat as Harry got out his wand. One quick spell revealed that the potion master was, in fact, pregnant.
"Well no potions for you for a long while." Harry said.
That comment snapped Severus out of his daze, "That's not an option! We have to work on that cure!"
Harry's eyes narrowed, "No. Any potion fumes could affect the baby and since the baby is half vampire that means it will need to feed on your blood after it's done getting milk from you. You can't be tainted by fumes during the 9 months before the birth, 5 months or so for the milk duration and, at least, a year when you switch the baby to your blood-"
"No! We can't wait that long! There's still creature laws, restrictions and hunting going on even after Dumbledore was discredited! We need to end this and that potion will do it!" Severus yelled worried for his lover and unborn child.
Draco looked at his godfather feeling a desire to help, "Harry has everything figured out from controllable moonlight to a way to get a potion into complete darkness-"
Severus shook his head, "No! We still can't wait!"
"I'm not saying that!" Draco snapped, "What I'm saying is I will help him start. We will work together and share the details of every step with you. Considering St. Mungo's stance on creatures they won't help with testing this time, but I think we have plenty of volunteers."
The two wizards followed Draco's eyes to the apartment door and saw that it was wide open with several creatures watching them. The only one that moved was Sanguini who simply pulled Severus close, but the look in his eyes was the same as the others. They were all willing to help ...
