Roark looked around the room at the family he had just discovered was his, a midnight brow arching as his gaze shifted from one to another. With a shake of his head, he turned back to his lover.
"It really is not an option for me, Rodolphus. Though I have never said so out loud, I have always felt that there was a part of my heart, of my soul, that was missing. When you and I met that first time...when we came together...finally admitted that we loved each other, I felt like those missing pieces had been returned to me. I feel whole...like I am finally complete for the first time in my life."
Rodolphus lifted his hand and cupped his jaw, his thumb moving over his cheek. "Just so you are aware, darling, I feel exactly like you do," he said softly amid several deep sighs from the women of the family, tears forming in their eyes as they watched the pair. "When Rabastan finished reading Leta's letter, he can tell you just how devastated I was. How I asked myself, could I possibly give up the one person who made me feel so complete, brought the warmth back into what I felt was cold...lifeless?
"My marriage was an unmitigated disaster from the moment I married her. It was only after I was ordered to leave you, that I knew that I couldn't. My original plan had been to follow you to Caprica, report to Admiral Roark with Rabastan, and then go to the Life Center.
"It was only after we were in our shuttle that I found myself turning us toward Leo. I reasoned with him, and with myself, that if I could find out about your parents..." he broke off then, shaking his head. "I love you, Roark Christopher Durin Peverell Potter. Cousin you may be, but far more importantly, you are the holder of my heart, my soul."
"I love you just as much," he smiled suddenly, "and just think, my brother and yours are bound just as tightly as we are, and--" he broke off suddenly, his face going nearly white as intense pain filled his silver eyes. Turning his head, he looked at his grandfather. "I'm sorry you feel that way, Grandfather," he said softly as he rose to his feet. "The decision was taken from our hands once the emotional, mental, and physical bonds formed between us.
"Once they became too strong for us to do anything about them but to admit that they were real, there really IS no choice for either of us. That you are so disappointed in me, in my decision to choose the man I love beyond life itself--" he broke off with a pained hitch in his voice. "Excuse me," he rasped, as he turned and all but ran from the room.
"ROARK!!" Ila cried out, jumping to her feet.
Harry was instantly on his feet, his glare blistering as he looked at his grandfather. "I CANNOT believe you just did that to him, especially after what you put me through about wanting to remain with Rabastan. If I did not love you so much, I really think I could hate you!" his voice was a snarl by the time he finished speaking.
He turned then, hurrying after Roark, never seeing Adama's face go white at his grandson's scathing words. "HARRY!" he made to go after him.
"NO." Rodolphus said, his tone icy. "Rabastan and I will take care of them," he said as he rose to his feet. "Siress Ila, I would really appreciate it if you could begin to pack up Roark's things," he threw a frozen glare at the Commander who now stood frozen. "I doubt very much he will wish to return or to remain in a place where his life choices are not respected, or accepted. Rabastan?" he turned to his brother to find that he was already gone. "Admiral?"
"Go. You are all welcome in our home. You will tell Harry and Rabastan if they wish to move in here, they are completely welcome. We will, of course, find you a room," a grin, "even if we have to add on to the place again."
"I'll tell them. Given just how close they are, I'm quite sure they will not wish to be separated."
He smiled. "No, likely not. Now go. My son needs you," he watched as Rodolphus turned, hurrying from the room. Once he was out of sight, he turned on his long-time friend. "THAT, Jacob, was VERY badly handled on your part. For a man who says he loves his grandsons, who loves my son, you have managed to do the one thing I never thought in a million yahrens you could...or WOULD do. I am deeply disappointed in you."
