Ooh, reviews/comments :)
After a long hiatus (which included finishing college and life in general) I am back and hope to post updates in as few as 2-4 days apart.
@ thrnbrooke: I am so glad you stuck with this story, and as for your question… well, this chapter will definitely answer it for you.
Consequences
Dawn was approaching by the time Harry and Draco sauntered into the ramshackle shelter, albeit, for the blond, quite haltingly. Said boy walked by their pack mates without making eye contact, his face flushed in mild embarrassment. He sat across from the slightly uncomfortable pair, grabbing up a discarded book and feigning interest in its contents.
Harry hid a sympathetic smile, remembering how mortified the blond had been until they were able to separate. He knew the blond was more self-conscious than he let on, and had promised his mate that he would not mention the details of their coupling.
The dark haired youth was about to greet his pack mates when he felt a weight on his shoulder, then was rapped on the head, quite roughly. He winced, turning to see a very aggravated Helios staring him in the eye. Harry raised an eyebrow at the blazing phoenix, unaware of why he deserved such a harsh welcoming.
‘What was that for, Heli?’
‘You mated him, didn’t you? By the look of it, you marked him as well! Do you have no respect for your laws? What if he is with child? This is a dangerous mission, Harry, not some carefree vacation. You’d put your mate and offspring in peril for a night of reckless passion?’
Harry bit his lip in aggravation, not at the bird, but at himself for forgetting that he could impregnate his mate.
‘I’m sorry, I completely forgot, Helios. The dog demon took over, and he is in heat, we didn’t think it through.’
Helios bristled, calming the flames that enveloped his plumage since the pair had crossed the threshold of their temporary lodging.
‘What’s done is done, and you will have to deal with any repercussions that may arise.’
‘What are the chances that Draco is carrying my child? I mean, we only mated once. That surely can’t be enough to make him pregnant, right?’
The phoenix dropped his elegant head in incredulity, was his owner really this naïve?
‘One time is all it takes, Harry, and seeing as how he is in heat, the chances are so much higher. We won’t know for sure if Draco is carrying your pup for a few days, so all we can really do is wait it out.’
‘How will we…’ Harry began, and then quickly looked over to his mate. He hoped that the blond had not heard their telepathic conversation. The last thing he needed was the other boy freaking out about a possible pregnancy. Apparently the former Slytherin was oblivious to their communications, having struck up a forced dialogue with Luna.
‘We’ll know, Harry, we phoenix are the symbol of rebirth and sustaining life in general. We will feel the budding life within your mate. You may even notice a change in him, his scent in particular.’
Harry nodded, focusing on his mate’s flat stomach while worrying his bottom lip. If indeed the blond were pregnant, this mission would become ten times harder. He would have to stay beside the other until Voldemort was no longer a threat, and he just knew that Draco would not take too kindly to being smothered.
‘Bet you wish you had listened to me,’ Helios commented, lightly thumping the dark haired boy on the head to convey his light humor.
‘Shut up Helios,’ Harry retorted with a stiff smile. At that moment Draco turned and their eyes met, the fairer boy nodded slightly, a half smirk adorning his face. Harry smiled a bit wider, trying to stifle the uneasiness he was feeling as he walked over to the three. He couldn’t bring himself to mention these new developments to his mate, not yet.
‘I have to be the unluckiest bloke in the world.’
‘Things could be worse, Harry,’ the large bird replied sympathetically.

One week later
After having traveled a few miles a day, it was Cedric who commented on how sluggish the former Slytherin appeared, and suggested they rest in this particular mountain-like area. After much debate, Harry taking Cedric’s side, much to Draco’s fury, the blond relented grudgingly. He was feeling a bit restless, not to mention queasy.
‘I haven’t been sick in ages; I can’t shake this lousy feeling for the life of me.’ He placed a tentative hand on his lower stomach, feeling a slightly heavy sensation. To add to his sour mood, he noticed Harry’s odd behavior as of late, and it irritated him to no ends. The emerald eyed teen was constantly fussing over him, appearing to want to speak to the blond about something of a serious nature, then clamming up and dropping the conversation. To Draco, who was used to speaking his mind and holding little to nothing back, this was highly aggravating.
‘Bloody git, what is he so secretive about? He has been quite vocal until recently…’
Harry looked over his shoulder at his mate, sensing his growing restlessness. He would have to tell him about the highly likely possibility of his pregnancy before the blond grew worried about being sick for no apparent reason.
“Draco, can I speak to you for a minute?”
The blond rolled his eyes, nodding as he stood from the small boulder he had been sitting on. Luna and Cedric watched the boy pass in quiet interest, he had been acting surlier than usual, and they pondered on what must have happened between the two.
“What is it? Are you finally going to tell me what’s been bothering you?”
They stood well out of earshot of the other members of their pack, yet still within the safety of their protective barrier. Under the shade of a tall pine, Harry grabbed his mate’s hand.
“Listen, Draco, I am going to tell you something that might upset you. I just want you to know that I will take care of you, no matter what happens.” Harry toyed with the necklace of Slytherin that he had taken to wearing in the chance that they would find a way to destroy it. At this point in time, he was twirling the intricately designed locket in anxiety.
Draco raised an eyebrow at the other teen, confusion etched on his handsome face.
“What exactly is it that you want to tell me, Potter? Get on with it,” the blond bit out somewhat snidely, having had enough of Harry’s reluctance and uncertainty.
“You might be pregnant,” Harry said quickly, deciding that the faster he told the blond, the better. He watched as his lover blinked in surprise and lowered his hands to his stomach. Draco appeared to be deep in thought.
“Talk to me Drake,” Harry said, lifting the other teen’s chin.
“This can’t be true, I mean… I… We… How the hell are we going to deal with this if I am?” Draco paced back and forth quickly, thinking of the less than ideal situation they were in. They couldn’t bring a child into this screwed up and dangerous existence.
“We don’t know for sure yet Drake, I think Helios can let us know for certain.”
Draco paused, whirling angrily on the dark haired teen.
“What are you waiting for then, call the feather head over here and have him check!”
The dog demon wielder nodded somberly, telepathically calling to the phoenix before he froze instantly. He cocked his head slightly, listening intently for the sound he was certain he heard.
The blond glared at the other boy in annoyance, opening his mouth to call to the coal black bird himself. Harry quickly put his hand the silver eyed teens’ mouth, effectively silencing him. He was about to curse the darker youth when he caught sight of his shining eyes.
Before the blond could blink, he was being raced over to the other members of their group. Harry transformed before they even reached the startled pair, nails and fangs extended, tail sprouting from his lower back and stiff as a rod.
“What is it Harry?” Luna inquired, jumping up after Cedric and looking around for some sign of danger.
“Snake,” the emerald eyed teen responded, fangs bared as he stepped before the confused trio.
“Scared of a little snake, Pott-“
Before the blond teen could finish, the serpent emerged from behind a large mountain formation.
“You remember what you said the other day about things being worse? Well, you were right Helios, damn you!” Harry screamed over the hissing of the gigantic snake. By the size and ferocity of it, the Gryffindor assumed it was a basilisk.
‘Sorry Harry,’ the phoenix replied as he hovered above the scene beside his feathered companion.
‘If it isssn’t the Harry Potter, in the flesssssh,’ the behemoth hissed, rearing and towering over even the tallest of pines.
‘Leave this place or be destroyed snake, we were just passing through,’ Harry responded in parseltongue, which he found was hard to do with his fangs extended. The basilisk hissed in amusement, opening his jaw wide to display his own venomous fangs.
‘There isss a reward for your capture, little one, and besssidess, I owe it to my brother to avenge hisss death. Do you remember my sssibling, Harry Potter? You killed him a few yearsss ago if I recall correctly.’
Harry realized that this snake was indeed related to the one he killed in his second year. He also realized that there would be no leaving this place without a fight with the giant serpent. He quickly turned to the others; their wands were already drawn and pointed at the beast before them.
“The barrier we put up won’t keep this guy out, just as it wouldn’t keep any wild animals out. We are going to have to hit him with all we have.”
The other nodded, shouting curses as the snake lunged at them.
“Confringo!”
“Expulso!”
“Sectumsempra!”
The large snake was smart enough to close its jaws to avoid swallowing the dangerous spells into its vulnerable mouth. It whipped its large head to the side, effectively dodging two jets of light, while being hit by Luna’s confringo spell. The side of his head erupted in flames briefly before he slammed it into the ground, extinguishing the spitting fire before it could do any real damage.
The ground rumbled beneath the teens as the snake struck it, and they were knocked to the floor. Harry remained on his feet, slashing his wand through the air, he released his own spell.
“Crucio!”
The snake was hit right between the eyes, yet seemed to have not been harmed. He again lunged at the group, bringing his tail around as well to slash at the phoenixes that began flying toward his face.
The four teens again shot spells at the beast, having gathered their bearings. Again the spells missed or were hardly effective. Fawkes, having dealt with a basilisk before, flew at one of the snakes’ massive eyes, gripping the large face with his talons. He began to tear at the reddened orb with his sharp beak as the serpent thrashed about, trying to dislodge the large bird.
Slamming his head against the ground again, the snake was able to get rid of the phoenix. Fawkes was able to escape being crushed by inches, flying toward the heavens again to recuperate.
Now blind in one eye, the snake stuck his long tongue out, scenting the whereabouts of the four humans on the ground. His eye remained skyward as he kept a lookout for the dangerous birds. Harry took the distraction as time to convert into his dog form. Spells were getting them nowhere. However, before he could even begin to transform, the snake lashed his tail at the dark haired teen. Harry was thrown back, hitting a nearby tree with a loud thump.
“Harry!” Cedric and Luna cried out as they ran to check on their fallen teammate. Draco, having narrowly avoided the huge tail, sprinted at the basilisk.
“Sectumsempra.”
The spell hit its intended mark, slicing through the snake’s exposed tongue. It reared again, thrashing madly as it knocked over trees and crushed boulders, sending giant chunks of rock flying like shrapnel. Draco was pelted with large pieces of the boulder, one piece in particular slamming into his shoulder and knocking him to the ground. He cried out in agony, his shoulder hanging limply at his side.
Upon hearing the pained cry of his mate, Harry struggled to his feet with the help of Luna and Cedric. He lunged forward, hell blazing in his eyes as he leapt at the beast that was beginning to wrap his body around the prone blond on the floor.
“BASTARD,” Harry screamed, colliding with the serpent. He was able to grip onto the underside of the snake’s jaw, digging his extended nails into the thick scales. The basilisk relinquished his hold on the unconscious blond, flying back and crashing to the ground. He writhed, turning to his belly and slamming the dark haired youth into the floor. Harry released the monster, reeling from the pain of being driven into the unrelenting earth.
The snake reared once more, jaw open wide to strike a deadly blow to the dazed wizard. Harry rolled onto his back just in time to see the poison laden fangs aimed straight at his chest. With his last ounce of strength, he grabbed at the sides of the beasts jaws, trying to hold it at bay.
‘You die now, Potter,’ it hissed, blood showering down Harry from its injured eye and tongue.
Harry felt a sharp pressure on his chest and knew that the fang must have pierced him. Knowing that if he could escape now, the phoenixes could heal him, he held onto the creatures’ jaw. Suddenly, there was a sharp cracking sound, along with an angry scream, and a black miasma flowed from his chest. He took the opportunity to push at the snake as it choked on the heavy, shadowy mist. He grabbed up his fallen wand with his unoccupied hand and shoved it far into the massive mouth.
“EXPULSO!”
The curse flew down the serpent’s mouth, coming out half way down its spine. Chunks of snake fell to the battered ground, along with the beast itself, which slammed to the earth with a loud thud.
Harry clambered to his feet, his only thought being to check on his injured mate. He rushed to the fallen blond, glad to see that at least the others were at his side, casting simple healing charms. He reached the group and fell to his knees beside his love.
“We were able to clear up a lot of the bruising to his head and chest; he was hit with some pretty big rocks. His shoulder is a bit more difficult to diagnose, and none of us know how to mend bones. Fawkes and Helios were able to numb the pain with their tears, but we won’t know what else we can do until we know if it is dislocated or broken, and where.” Cedric finished his explanation with a sigh, rubbing the sweat from his brow and moving back so Harry could examine his mate for himself.
Harry nodded his approval, thanking the older boy while pushing the hair from the blonde’s strained face.
“Draco? Drake, are you okay my love?”
Silver eyes opened slowly as he regarded the lightning scar bearer blearily.
“The snake,” Draco whispered, struggling to lean on his elbows. Harry held his shoulder softly.
“It is dead, don’t worry about him.”
Draco nodded, and then quickly dropped the hand of his uninjured arm to his flat stomach. Worry flashed through his silver eyes as he looked first at Harry, then at Helios.
Harry understood and beckoned the phoenix over. Helios hopped over, placing his elegant head against the blonde’s stomach. Luna and Cedric looked on in confusion, staring at the bird in wonder.
Helios removed his head from the blond teen’s belly, only to place it against his head. They stood this way for a minute before the bird hopped away from the blond and over to Harry. Draco was staring at his stomach, his face portraying mixed emotions. He looked slightly relieved, confused, but more uncertain than anything.
‘Helios, what did you tell him?’ Harry leaned toward the bird, still holding the other boys’ limp hand.
‘He wants to tell you,’ the bird responded, extending his wings and lifting up off of the ground to perch beside a seemingly knowing Fawkes in a nearby pine tree.
“Draco?”
The blond looked at him, tears streaming down his hollow cheeks.
“Two tiny heartbeats beside mine, and they are strong.”
Harry was flabbergasted. He didn’t know whether to feel elated, relieved, or panicked. Worse, he didn’t know what Draco wanted him to feel, or how the blond felt himself. Was he crying because he was upset that he was carrying pups?
Harry waited.
Draco touched his stomach again, oh so softly, rubbing small circles along his abdomen.
“You know, I didn’t know I wanted them until I thought I may have lost them. When I passed out all I kept thinking was ‘I really hope that my baby is okay,’ can you believe that? I wasn’t certain I was pregnant and I was praying for my child’s safety. We’ll keep them safe. They will live, I dreamed they would,” the blond finished, finally looking up at his mate.
Harry nodded, tears forming in his own eyes as he turned to the amazed duo beside them. Draco all but told them himself that he was carrying pups, so he couldn’t blame Harry for what he did next.
“I’m going to be a dad!”
Luna clapped joyfully, turning to hug a startled Cedric.
“Congratulations you two, we need a little light in all of this darkness!” Luna hugged a beaming Harry, settling for placing a hand on an aggravated and discomfited Draco’s shoulder. Cedric clapped Harry on the shoulder, nodding at the blond in his own form of say congrats.
Harry suddenly started, standing quickly. The others looked at him in askance.
“Speaking of darkness,” the darker teen said, gently grabbing the locket and bringing it up to inspect it. There was a large hole right in the middle. “That must have been where the smoke came from. I think we may have just destroyed one of the horcruxes, guys.”
“Of course, Harry! Remember what Hermione said in the letter she sent? ‘Only that which can cause degeneration at a rapid pace can harm the dark artifacts which contain a human’s soul.’ Basilisk venom kills within minutes, obviously causing degeneration of the victim’s body. When the fang pierced the locket, it was able to destroy the soul,” Luna exclaimed, also examining the now withered looking locket.
“We are finally making some progress, then,” Draco commented, smirking slightly. His hand still lay protectively across his stomach.
“What do we do next, Harry?” Cedric asked.
“We have the destroyed ring, diary and now the locket. We just have to find out what else he used as containers. We’ll recover for a while, come up with some possibilities, then head on out.”
“We should apparate to a different location, or have Fawkes and Helios transport us. We shouldn’t stay here for too long,” Luna mentioned, covertly looking over the blond boy in worry. They needed to get his arm mended.
“I know a place,” Harry replied as he walked over to the fallen serpent. He grabbed the two razor sharp fangs and tugged with all his might. With a few strong tugs he was able to pull them from its mouth.
“We’ll be needing these, I’m sure,” Harry answered the others’ unanswered question.
“So where are we going, Harry?”
“Grimmauld Place, my godfather’s home.”
