Living Chapter 32
Well, Hell and Damnation to me and everyone else involved in this business. Ron Weasley’s internal conversation was putting him off his breakfast, which frankly never happened. He’d be sent to Hell if his mum ever found out. She’d hex him good and there would be no returning back from this mess. His uneasy glance at his “fellow” future Jr. Death Eaters scattered around The Great Hall made him decide to instead stare at his now unappetizing cold food. They were told at the end of the meeting to not draw unnecessary attention to anyone that had attended the meeting that night. If someone hadn’t been a friend before then you better not be conversing with that person unless put together in a class situation. Ron had nothing against this rule because frankly, he didn’t care to ever talk to anyone that had been in that room last night. Ron wasn’t ready to spill to Harry, Ginny or Hermione everything about what he’d found out in his little Death Eater’s meeting. His task had haunted his dreams all night long, at least the few dreams he’d had with so little sleep. He felt like his stomach would continually ache while dealing with his new status as a prospective Jr. Death Eater. Ron kept looking and waiting to see when Harry would walk through the doors. He had a feeling that Harry would be able to guess his “task” by the guilty look that he was sure was plastered on his face.
Ron nervously glanced up at the high table and then averted his gaze as Snape glared down at him with his sharp, piercing eyes. Even with their newfound working relationship, his professor still made him jumpy by the deep penetrating stare that Severus Snape was famous for. The older man lifted an eyebrow in a questioning manner seeing Ron staring at him. Ron felt like he’d been caught doing something he shouldn’t, looked down at his still full plate, and tried to ignore the man.
“Hey mate! What’s for breakfast this fine morning,” Harry Potter clapped a hand on Ron’s shoulder startling him as he’d not been paying attention to the entrance doors. Snape had captivated his attention long enough for him to ignore looking for his friends.
“Food,” Ron answered unenthusiastically.
“Really?” Harry cocked his to the side and answered back in a sarcastic tone, “Is that what breakfast is all about?” Harry plopped down next to him, scooped fried eggs and ham onto his plate and then poured himself some pumpkin juice. He ate a few bites savoring the flavor of his food, took a drink, and then he shifted to face Ron, who still was staring at his plate of food like it was something foreign and noxious.
“Ron Weasley, I know something is wrong because not once in all the years I’ve known you have you ever just sat and stared at a plate of food. You’d already be on your second or third helping not glaring at your food like it has offended you somehow.” Harry grinned at his own witty words but soon frowned when he realized his words were hitting a brick wall.
Ron turned his head to look at Harry, scrunching his eyebrows at his friend’s words his lips turning into a pout. “I can’t talk about it here,” he whispered to Harry.
Ron looked over Harry’s shoulder towards the Slytherin table then ducked his head down his nose almost reaching his food.
Harry leaned over, “Grab some toast and we’re going to talk.” He snatched toast, bacon and a cup of fruit and hopped up from the table. Ron grabbed a stack of toast in his hands and followed Harry. No one looked too long at the boys as they left, except one dark-haired professor who knew that something had happened to Ron the evening before. He slid out of his seat, nodding to Minerva and Pomona as he left out the back door.
************
Theo Nott almost spit out his fried eggs when he saw Harry Potter chasing after Ron Weasley. They both had been acting very unusual and Theo worried that Ron had spilled his gut and told Harry everything that he’d heard the previous evening at the Death Eater meeting. If it got back to Lord Dolohov that Theo’s potential nominee was spilling secrets about their organization, then it would be Theo who’d get punished. There was no way that he wanted to be cursed for hours on end because of something that wasn’t his fault.
He swallowed his last bite and looked over at Justin at the Hufflepuff table. He stood and brushed off his robes and still glared in Justin’s direction hoping that he’d notice him getting ready to leave. Theo glared in Justin’s direction as he continued standing and primping hoping that Justin would get his head out of his ass and notice him. There was only so much smoothing and picking at his robes before the Slytherins at his table started harassing him about his nitpicking to his wardrobe.
“Nott, you look lovely so stop your preening and leave the Great Hall before I vomit the breakfast I’ve just partaken of.” Draco Malfoy sat smirking at him while all of the goons sat at his side laughed stupidly. The whole row of idiots stood and started brushing off their robes in imitation of Theo. He could feel the anger rising in his chest and clenched his fists so tight that his nails almost broke the skin. That’s all he needed right now was to get into a fight with someone from his own house, especially the pompous Malfoy heir.
He knew he would soon regret this but he couldn't help himself, “Malfoy, you are an arrogant swine. If you would once in your life stand up for something by yourself instead of relying on your goons to be your show of force...you may, and I say may become the kind of man that would make your Malfoy ancestors proud.”
Draco stood with his mouth wide open staring at Theo. Not a word came out of the blond git's mouth as he stood looking at Theo. The whole of Slytherin knew what that stare meant, that Draco couldn’t believe that Theo had actually stood up against him after all of the many years at Hogwarts. It just had never been done.
“See here, you’ll not talk to me that way and get away with it.” Draco managed to stutter out while trying to control a quivering bottom lip.
Theo sneered at the foolish git, “I’ll say what I want because it's about time someone stood up to you.” He stepped closer to Draco and whispered so only he could hear, “The new Dark Lord is not pleased that you've chosen not to support him. You still have a chance to change your mind. If you don’t there will be consequences.”
Theo stepped back from the now even paler young man whose dark mark from Voldemort still stood out in contrast to his lily white skin. He noticed Draco’s hand slide up over his shirt sleeve where said dark mark still rested. If Theo didn’t know any better, he’d thought Draco had pissed his pants from the look on his face. What Theo had told him was the truth and he hadn’t sugar-coated anything. Lord Dolohov was very displeased that the Malfoy heir hadn’t joined the new regime. He was only giving him a short amount of time to change his mind, and then Malfoy would be fair game to his new Death Eaters to show Draco what going up against Lord Dolohov meant.
He let out a short, nasty laugh as he strutted off on the lookout for Weasley and Potter to figure out whether or not Ron Weasley would need to be beaten up and obliviated. No one ratted out the Death Eaters and Theo was more than ready to continue proving his worth to his new Lord.
***********
Severus left the Great Hall and speedily headed towards the library. That was always the first place where he looked for Hermione. Something was up with all of her brainless friends who wore their emotions on their shirt sleeves. There was never any need to ask them how they were feeling, just stand around long enough and all of your questions would be answered by just observing them.
Speaking of observations, something happened last night that now made Ronald Weasley a very troubled young man. Just for the fact that Mr. Weasley hadn’t touched his breakfast and only stared at his food like a foreign object was enough to tell Severus that Ronald Weasley was in trouble. He needed Hermione to go find the imbecile and discover why he was wandering the hallways of Hogwarts ready to combust. Worst case scenario would be him falling apart in front of all of Hogwarts and spilling out all of their secrets and his mission to infiltrate the new Death Eaters.
Severus glared as he wandered around the library thinking of how he’d had a feeling that Ronald hadn’t been up for the job. Their plan could soon be over before it even had a chance of working.
He gave a great sigh as he saw the object of his search hiding behind two huge tomes, her head bent and her hand moving furiously taking notes. Hermione didn’t even flinch as he came over to the table and stood behind her hovering. Bending down slightly his lips brushed against her earlobe as he whispered, “You need to pay better attention or someone could attack you as you seem unaware of your surroundings.” His deep voice though softer, still carried it’s hard tone as he reprimanded her.
Hermione turned whispering back, “I’m completely aware of where I’m at and who is around me. I was in the middle of writing down something important and didn’t want to be interrupted.”
He stood back up with his arms folded and gave her a menacing look, as he wasn’t sure if any hidden eyes were watching them. Having been a spy for so many years he knew that they could never let their guard down. At this point they'd only identified a few members of the new Death Eaters under Lord Dolohov, it wouldn’t be wise to talk about anything of importance in such an open area.
“You Miss Granger have forgotten that you owed me a detention this afternoon. Meet me in the potions classroom immediately. I’ll not have you lally galling around.” Severus flicked his hand and the large books that Hermione had been reading swept through the air and back to their open spots on the high shelves above their heads. Hermione pressed her lips together, eyebrows scrunched as she watched her professor. He only nodded his head at her and strutted away leaving the library at a fast pace. He knew that Hermione would be following him soon and then they’d be on a search looking for her two idiotic friends.
*********************************
Hermione marched as fast as she could through the halls of Hogwarts making her way down to the dungeons. Her reputation was taking a beating this year with all of the “detentions” she was serving with Professor Snape. There was nothing she could do about it though without people finding out about her and Severus. Opening the door of the Potions classroom she headed in, the door closed and locked immediately.
“So, why was I called into detention now?” Hermione asked in her bossy tone, hands on her hips. Severus gave his best teacher glare in her direction that only made her laugh out loud.
“I wish I could say you’re here because you’ve been very naughty, but it’s those two imbecile friends of yours I needed to talk to you about.” Severus leaned against his desk at the front of the room his arms crossed and the familiar stern look on his face.
“Oh, Gods, what did they do now?” Hermione’s surprise shown on her face.
“That’s what I need you to try and figure out. After Mr. Weasley’s display of non-eating in the Great Hall and Mr. Potter chasing after him with his friend not speaking and acting like Voldemort himself had risen from the grave and was pursuing him...well, there were too many eyes following them and I think it could get Ronald into trouble.” Hermione could see how troubling this had been for Severus. Then she realized what he’d said so quickly without taking a breath.
“Did you say Ron wasn’t eating? That is a disaster in itself. Everyone here at Hogwarts knows of Ron’s appetite and if he’s not eating that’s a dead giveaway to him being out of sorts.” Hermione dropped into the seat of the nearest table. There were very few things through the years that had caused Ron to pare back on his eating. Even while on the run in the Forest of Dean he’d been the one to still show a healthy appetite even for the daily regime of wild mushrooms.
Severus nodded his head his lips pursed in thought, “Exactly what I was thinking. Whatever happened last night shook him up more than we’d anticipated and now he’s losing it.” He sighed and rubbed his hand down the side of his face, “Being a spy is not for the weak-minded or for someone who can’t keep their emotions in control. Obviously, we made the wrong call in asking Mr. Weasley to spy on the Death Eaters.”
Hermione sat quietly while her brain was busy processing the now terrifying situation. If Lord Dolohov found out about Ron being a spy, his life could be in jeopardy. “Severus, who was it that noticed Ron being somewhat out of control?”
“Besides the whole student body of Hogwarts?” The sarcasm and anger in his words were not lost to Hermione. It was not often that she’d seen Severus Snape rattled by something and this was causing him great concern. “ Specifically, it was Theodore Nott that worried me the most. I was watching him and he didn’t take his sight off of Ronald.”
Severus came over and sat down next to Hermione taking her hand in his. “You need to locate him and find out exactly what happened last night and warn him about Theodore. If he can’t handle this job, then new arrangements need to be made. He is not only going to put his life in jeopardy but ours as well.”
She knew the glare on his face was not directed at her but it still made her squirm a little inside. Hermione had been at the end of that glare too many times through the years and it still made her feel like a silly school girl being reprimanded by her surly professor.
Hermione gave his hand a soft squeeze and leaned over to delicately kiss the man she loved. Her kiss instantly made Severus sigh, his shoulders relaxing as he leaned into her. His hands massaged their way into her thick curls as he drew her closer. Pulling her onto his lap she wrapped her legs around his waist sitting astride him. Both of them sighed feeling the heat building from being so close to each other. It felt so good to have a few quiet moments with him even though they were discussing something so ominous. “I don’t want to leave,” she said pulling back from their lingering kiss. “But, I know the sooner we know what’s going on, the sooner we can help Ron before he get’s himself killed.”
Severus’s fingers traced over her lips, his eyes caressing every angle of her face. “I’ve missed you. I don’t want you to leave now either, but it’s our job to help those with fewer brains than ours.” His cheeky grin and words made Hermione laugh-out-loud.
“Of course, we wouldn’t want the brainless running around without our guidance. What are you doing to me, you snarky man? I’m afraid I’m becoming more like you.” Hermione shifted in his lap which caused Severus to moan as she felt him hardening under her. Her mind ran wild for a few moments thinking how wonderful it would be to forget about the chaos in the world, strip down, and plunge herself onto Severus’s erection. Gods! It had been several weeks since they’d been together like that and they both were suffering because of it. He pulled her into him again with a hard kiss, his hands drifting under her skirt to play with the waistband of her knickers. Severus’s long fingers slid inside them finding how wet and ready she was for him. Eyes closed, she shuddered as he found her center, his fingers spreading her wetness back and forth. It didn’t take long circling her clit and his fingers fucking her for her to come on his hand.
Opening her eyes once her orgasm has settled down, she saw a clear desire still on her lover’s face. Lifting a bit, she opened his trousers releasing his long, hard shaft. With a smile on her face, she watched Severus as he slid into her wet opening groaning in satisfaction. Each time he plunged into her only made her fall harder and stronger for the man. Her desire grew again as she watched Severus head towards his peak, his breathing becoming more shallow his head thrown back as he bucked underneath her.
“Fuck, woman,” he shouted out as he came inside her bringing her along with him as she muttered something nonsensical into his ears.
They leaned against each other, breathing heavily, the smell of their juices intermixing in the air.
“You are my greatest distraction you minx,” Severus whispered as he kissed down the side of her neck.
“You’re so lucky to have me,” she whispered back to him, a smile gracing her face as their foreheads touched, her heart beating with happiness.
“That I am, love, that I am,” Severus said to her reverently kissing her again holding her close in his arms.

I don’t know why this story always fights me tooth and nail to get chapters out. I so apologize. Once I get on a roll though things seem to flow. Then, of course, Severus and Hermione demanded some alone time since they hadn’t had any for awhile, so I caved in and let them have their moment. They didn’t forget about Ron and Harry, but believe me when I say, if given the choice between chasing after the boys or having great sex with Severus...well there is no choice is there? Please leave a review if you feel the desire to do so.
