Hermione lay asleep in her four poster bed with the curtains drawn. She had gone to bed quite early, as she had felt rather depressed about not receiving a reply from Severus. The girl was beginning to think she had scared him off, and the thought was holding her mind hostage. She could think of nothing else that day, so she bade Harry and Ron good night, took a sleeping Potion, and fell asleep around six p.m.

Severus and Adrien had spent a majority of the day, frantically rummaging through books on magical and otherworldy creatures, desperate for more information. When they found nothing more than they already knew, the dark wizard decided he needed Hermione's expertise. The girl always seemed to be able to find necessary information at ease, but the girl was nowhere in sight. She wasn't even at dinner in the Great Hall that evening.

Severus pulled Luna aside before the dinner hour and pretended to be scolding her for the sake of prying eyes, but he was telling her something very important.

"I need you to keep a close watch on Adrien. If he goes missing, or tries to leave the castle, you come to me straight away. In the mean time, use whatever means necessary to keep him here. Can you do this for me?"

Luna was clearly confused but nodded her head. "Of course Professor Snape."

Without another word he swept away from her and made his way to Gryffindor tower. Once alone in the corridor, he dissolved into a tiny black and green spider. Not wanting to have to deal with the Fat Lady's questions, he decided that this would be the best decision. He rarely ever shifted, for fear someone would catch on. Only Adrien and Albus really knew that he was an Animagus.

Severus skittered beneath the Fat Lady who was none the wiser, and took a gander around the common room. Finding no one in sight, he climbed the stairs to the girl's dormitory and entered, checking the other beds first for any sign of any of the other girls in the room. He took his true form once again, and warded the door before he shook Hermione awake. The girl was startled at the unlikely presence, but she soon relaxed.

"How did you get up here?" she asked tiredly.

"There isn't a lot of time to explain. Long story short, Salia does not want me. It's Adrien that she's after." Severus explained.

"Adrien? I thought Seraphims didn't have any affect on others of their kind?" Hermione asked, completely forgetting her previous tiredness.

Severus took a seat toward the end of Hermione's bed, feeling awkward at the idea of being in his students' dormitory.

"No... I thought so as well, but apparently when the Seraphim is related, she could have some ill affect."

"So what do we do?" Hermione asked.

"That's... Why I'm here... Do you think you could pick that brain of yours and try to find a way to either kill or banish a Seraphim? I haven't been able to find anything that I don't already know." he told her, studying her face in the dark.

"Well of course... Of course I'll help you." the girl assured him.

Severus sighed in relief. "Thank you... Really. I cannot lose my child." he told her sadly.

Hermione got to her knees on the bed and shimmied behind Severus, and placed her arms around his middle. "You won't." she told him, softly kissing his cheek. The dark wizard closed his eyes, and this time, allowed himself to melt into her. Hermione gently placed her hand on his jaw, and he tilted his head back slightly before she captured him in a passionate, loving kiss.

"I received your letter." he said softly against her lips.

"I was fearful I had scared you away." she told him.

Severus turned himself to face her better. "I'm not afraid." he said with a slight smile.

Hermione smiled her gratitude and kissed him once more.

"Okay... Research time."

"Research time." he repeated sadly.

Hermione watched as Severus rose from the bed.

"I'll explain later. Come down to the Dungeons when you are ready. I will be in my study." he told her. Before she could say another word, she watched the image of the dark wizard dissolve before her eyes, until there was nothing but a tiny green and black spider on the floor. Her eyes were wide in disbelief, but she was impressed none the less. She watched as he moved back beneath the door before she dressed herself and followed him out a few minutes later.

So it was Adrien in danger of being ensnared by his mother. Not Severus. At the same time Hermione felt relieved, she was still in a state of alarm. She only hoped she would be able to figure out a way to kill or a banish an unrelenting Seraphim. This would take some digging.
