Chapter 33
Plans and Promises
As the pack got ready to sleep that night, after having theorized about the possible whereabouts of the last horcruxes, everyone reflected on their precarious situation. Things were only going to get more dangerous, with Draco being pregnant and Voldemort steadily rising in power, according to Harry’s mental connection to the dark lord. They were going to spend one final night in their ramshackle lodging, then head out early the next morning to Grimmauld Place.
Luna and Cedric tried to give the other pair as much privacy as the small dwelling allowed, and set up their beddings at the entrance. Harry had objected, but the pair was adamant, telling the teen that they would act as lookouts while he and his blond mate got their much deserved rest. Harry relented, thanking his pack mates and moving to lay behind his resting lover.
Draco started as the darker teen settled behind him, having been caught up in his thoughts about their unborn children. He, being an only child, did not know anything about having babies around. Would he be a good father? Most importantly, would he be able to have these babies in a world free of the evil snake bastard, where they could grow and flourish? As Harry nuzzled into his neck, the blond blushed slightly, relaxing in the newfound surety that the emerald eyed teen would protect their offspring with his life, as he would himself.
‘Let that prat try to harm my children, he’ll rue the day his mother shat him into existence.’ The blond placed his good hand over his stomach, and was surprised when he felt the teen behind him place his hand over his own.
“Were you thinking about what Helios said about the babies?” Harry whispered, interlacing his fingers with the blondes’ over his flat stomach as he referred to the conversation the two teens had had with the dark phoenix. The fairer teen’s eyes widened briefly, then softened, which was a completely new look for him. He looked almost complacent, the pregnancy bringing a certain tenderness to his demeanor… at times, anyway.
“Well, I wasn’t, but I am now. It’s not too surprising, though, I sort of figured that a pregnancy, especially that of a male carrying dog demon pups, would be a tad bit different.
Harry nodded in amusement, recalling the birds’ reluctant explanation of a canine/human pregnancy.
“The good news is that you will only carry the pups for four months instead of the nine a human female does. Besides that…”
“I will have to be ripped open. Maybe we’ll get lucky and Voldemort will take care of that task for us,” Draco joked bitterly, subconsciously pressing their intertwined hands tighter against his abdomen.
Harry frowned slightly, growling as he scooted closer to his worried mate.
“I’ll never give him the chance, love. You are my top priorities, you three are my life, and I will protect you from that monster no matter what. You have Cedric and Luna as well, willing to lay their lives on the line to defend you and our pups. They said so themselves, you three are important to them, and if something were to happen to me…”
“Now stop that talk Potter,” Draco interrupted again, “you are not leaving me to raise these babies alone. Lovegood and Diggory are… alright…” Harry snickered at the blondes’ forced compliment, “but these two are going to need you in their lives, and I am going to make damn sure that you are going to live through this so that you are.”
Harry smiled gently, surprised even more by the blonde’s declaration. He knew that the former Slytherin accepted his fate as the mate of a dog demon carrier, but he never expected that the other teen would come to care so deeply for him and their offspring. At times he shamefully found himself hoping against hope that the blond wasn’t bonding with him just because of some hormones or instincts, but because he loved him, truly loved him. He didn’t want the blond to feel resentment toward him, or that the Gryffindor trapped him into this life of danger and uncertainty. He loved Draco too much to see him be hurt by anyone, especially himself.
“I’ll always be here for you Draco, all of you. You couldn’t get rid of me even if you wanted to,” Harry teased, nuzzling deeper into his warm mate.
The blond bit his lip, fighting to hold his tears at bay as he rested against the dark boy behind him.
“Who said I wanted to?” Draco whispered, hearing the soft and steady breathing of the sleeping teen behind him, hands still resting atop his stomach.

“Alright, here’s the deal. Helios and Fawkes are going to Grimmauld Place to scope it out, see if there are any of Voldemort’s followers wandering about. They will send a signal to let us know whether we can follow or not, and we will go from there. If the cost is clear, we will apparate over there together, if not then one of the phoenix will stay and let us know when we can go.”
“Why can’t we have one of the phoenixes transport us there if there is an opportunity to get there undetected?” Luna asked as the group stood outside of their temporary shelter.
“We don’t want to raise any suspicion even if there are no visible threats. As I recall, there are wards and spells in place, I don’t want to set anything off if I can avoid it. Apparation is possible if it is at the exact right spot, we don’t know if they could get to that spot without their signature cloud of smoke filling the streets and alerting people to our arrival.”
Luna nodded at Harry’s explanation, tightening her grip on her luggage with one hand and holding Cedric’s with the other. The two had gotten quite comfortable with using physical contact as comfort, a fact that Harry secretly rejoiced in. His pack was unknowingly becoming more canine like the more they traveled together.
“Are we ready to do this? My arm is killing me,” Draco commented, huffing as he leaned against the side of the shack. His back was hurting and so were his feet, and we would not let the others rest until he could. He was more than experienced when it came to griping about his injuries, having done so on numerous occasions in the past few years alone.
“Alright, alright, we’re going,” Harry remarked, trying to placate his cranky mate. It couldn’t be easy, having to carry himself and two quickly growing pups. They would be, according to Fawkes, growing at almost double the speed of average babies. Not to mention his arm was still nonfunctional, and they could do nothing about it until they were in a safer spot.
Harry motioned for the large birds to proceed, and they disappeared with a soft pop, leaving a rose colored mist in their absence. Harry extended his hand, palm up, to catch the black feather that drifted slowly from the sky.
A minute passed as the group waited in silence for any indication of a change in the coal colored feather. A few more minutes elapsed before the feather became warm in the dark haired teen’s hands.
“Well, it seems that we can proceed. Remember; focus on the exact spot I mention, at the topmost stair before a large dark door. I will try to lead you the best I can, seeing as how you have not seen the spot before. Just go by my description, though, and you will be fine. Take my hands now,” Harry held his hands out to the stoic blond that came to stand beside him as he spoke, Draco took the offered appendage. Luna took Harry’s other offered hand, and gripped the former Hufflepuff beside her tighter. She turned to look at him, and he smiled down at her in reassurance.
“On one… two… three.”
The three vanished on the spot, leaving behind their mountain surroundings and windswept shelter.

They landed with little to no complications, with the exception of Luna, who landed right at the edge of the top stair. She lost her balance and was about to fall beyond the cloaking spell on the building when Cedric grabbed her by the waist, pulling her against him. Luna blushingly thanked the boy, gathering her bearings and staying as far from the stair as was permitted with the four of them standing on the small stoop.
“Alright you two, quit the snog fest and let’s get moving,” Draco said, rolling his eyes at the pair and putting his hand on the doorknob.
“We were not snogging, damn it,” Cedric responded, releasing his hold on the girl and letting the blond teen lead them into the hidden home. Before the snarky boy could turn the knob, however, Harry stopped him.
“I forgot, Moody told me last summer that there were spells in place to ward off any unwelcome visitors. I’ll go in first to disarm them,” Harry said as he moved past his mate to open the door. The four entered, slowly making their way down the dimly lit hallway.
Suddenly, there was a ghastly figure before them, moving at them swiftly as Harry stood his ground.
“We are not Voldemort, Professor Dumbledore; we did not kill you or take part in your murder.”
The apparition vanished as swiftly as it appeared, allowing them unhampered entrance.
“Don’t make too much noise, guys, there is a rather annoying portrait in the upstairs hallway that will not stop wailing if she hears us. Be as quiet as poss-…”
There was a loud crash, followed by excited and squeaky chattering.
“Harry Potter sir, Dobby is so happy to see you!” The bat eared house elf jumped at the surprised teen, hugging his legs.
On cue, the screeching of said woman started up, drowning out all else.
“FILTHY MUDBLOODS, BLOOD TRAITORS!! VILE AND SCUM, COMING INTO MY HOME TO TAINT THE BLACK NAME WITH THEIR DISGUSTING…” The screams continued as Harry lunged up the stairs, dragging an unrelenting elf along as he struggled to draw the curtain on the wailing woman.
“A LITTLE HELP, CEDRIC?” The Gryffindor cried out, pulling with all his might as Cedric rushed to his aid, effectively helping the other boy close the curtain and silencing the horrid lady. The two heaved sighs of relief, heading back down the stairs to meet with the others.
Dobby relinquished his hold on the dark haired teen, lowering his head in shame at having caused Harry such trouble. Reaching the bottom, Harry smiled fondly at the house elf he had freed from a life of disrespect and punishments. He placed a hand on the elf’s bald head, showing that he held no ill will toward the little guy.
Dobby smiled brightly, wiping at his moist orbs and rushing off to who knew where.
Approaching Draco and Luna, Harry smirked at their apparent aggravation. Draco in particular looked like he wanted to go up himself and tear the woman a new one.
“Who was that awful woman, Harry?” Luna asked, dropping her hands from her ears. She was more than relieved that the portrait was silenced, not just for her sake, but for Draco and the baby’s. She was feeling quite protective of the snarky teen.
Harry was about to respond when a voice from the kitchen area cut him off.
Barking laughter emitted from nearby, catching them all by surprise.
“That was my dear old mum, unfortunately. She has maintained her shrew like behavior even after her demise.”
Harry turned quickly, his eyes wide in their confusion and disbelief.
Dobby came from the kitchen, followed by a tall dark figure that was revealed by the soft candlelight in the hall. The haggard looking man smiled brightly at the startled group, taking years off of his face.
“Sirius… Is that really you?”
