I’m really loving the reviews and I’m glad you find the Romany language and culture to be so interesting. The more I find out the more fascinated I become with it. I just hope I don’t get cursed for revealing so much of their secret language.

Chapter 33
“I’m sure no one thought you would dear.”
Paula raised an eyebrow at the middle aged, stout woman at the other side of the table.
“Molly Weasley dear, you teach two of my children.”
“Ron and Ginny yes. Both quite impressive students.”
Molly beamed at Paula’s appraisal of her offspring, giving an ’I told you so’ look to most of the others at the table.
“Tonks, you have a gift. What is it? Ah, now I see.”
Paula smiled as Tonks changed her hair to the colour of ripe wheat and her nose grew wide and flat.
“Your friends, they think highly of you, not because of this talent, but because of you as a person. Remember that.” Paula looked deeper into Tonks’ soul then searched the room. “The wolverine, you have great camo for him yes? Great love.”
Tonks’ eyes widened. “How did you know?”
“Your heart bleeds because he turns you down time and time again. You are his zi, his heart, his mind. Pukker zi te lesti, he will listen.”
“What?”
“Tell him your mind, the truth of it, do not let up. Both of you must take what time you have.” Paula told her before walking away and leaving a gaping Tonks staring after her.
“Quite an impressive little speech you gave Miss Vance.” Moody said later in the evening when he managed to get Paula on her own.
“It was not meant to be impressive nor a speech Mr Moody, I just thought it best to state a few facts before anyone decided to do it for me.”
“Fair enough.” He said begrudgingly. “I suppose it was Snape who told you about the eye.”
“No, I have seen one other like it, several years ago in Germany. Though the old witch had a little more control over hers than you do Mr Moody. yours is poori and poggered.”
“Eh! It’s what?”
“Old and broken Mr Moody, it was not meant for you.”
“He huffed. Says who? I won this eye fair and square. So what’s with your own, we all saw what they did. I’ve never known eyes to change like that before. Only … you’re one of them aren’t you, a soul searcher.” He said quietly.
Paula nodded. “Does it bother you Mr moody, the fact I have already read your own soul? And it is no secret, I do not hide what I am.”
“If I’m honest I find it a bit unnerving that you’ve read me, yes. But if that’s what you do, I don’t suppose you can help it. But what you see you keep to yourself lassie.”
“Of course Mr Moody. You are right, I cannot help reading a persons soul, although I can control the level of my search.”
Moody’s eye spun rapidly out of control at her last comment.
Paula placed the palm of her hand over his eye and held it there for a moment. She closed her eyes and whispered so quietly he could barely make out what she was saying.
“Chavaia. Yok dik jekhipe, yok and Moody be corthu.”
(Stop. Eye to see oneness, eye and Moody be joined)
Before he had a chance to ask her what she thought she was doing, Paula lowered her hand
“I think you will have more control over it now Mr Moody, the eye is truly yours..” Paula told him before walking away.
Moody knew his eye should still be spinning madly after what she had done, but it wasn’t and he realised it was because he didn’t want it to. “Well bugger me.” He muttered, wandering off and practicing the new control he had over his magical eye.
“What did you do to moody?” Severus asked her.
“Just gave him a helping hand with that eye of his. I think he will be a little more inclined to trust me now.”
“Moody trusts no one, ever.”
“I know, but with good reason. I am leaving now Severus, I cannot stand it in this pokey little place any longer.”
“I will join you if that is alright, I have no further business here.”
Paula smirked when she turned her back on him and walked out the door.
“Where are you going, the exit is this way.”
“Riley is waiting out back for me, I thought it might be nice to ride him back.”
“Riley? You mean you are going to ride through the streets of London on that thing?”
“Don’t be silly Severus, we’re going to fly. Join me?”
“You’ve got to be kidding me.”
“Have you ridden a thestral before, or a hippogriff?”
“A thestral yes, but it was not the size of Riley and I was still a teenager at the time.”
“Riley is strong and powerful. He can easily carry four or five adults if needs be. Come on.”
Severus followed her through the kitchen door to find Riley waiting for them.
He immediately turned to Paula and rubbed his head against her, as always careful not to pierce her with his horn.
“O my Gods.”
Severus, Paula, and Riley all turned their eyes to the kitchen door as light and voices suddenly filled the rear garden of number 12.
“What is that?”
“That Lupin, is Riley. Paula’s horse.” Severus said.
“You call that thing a horse, it’s got a ruddy horn.”
Riley’s eyes reddened at the young wizard who’d spoken last and lowered his head so the horn pointed directly at him.
“Riley, atch. No athinganoi. Dick. Dick. No athinganoi.” (Riley no, No danger. See. See. No danger)
Riley’s ears twitched and he raised his mighty head.
“Gorgio’s.” She whispered to the horse.
Riley nodded his head and pawed the ground, calm now but eager to be off.
“It is best you do not display any animosity in front of Riley, he will kill to protect me if he senses you may be a threat. Otherwise he is a gentle beast.”
“Erm, what did you say to him?” Asked Remus Lupin.
“I told him you meant no harm, that is all you need to know. Goodnight to you all.”
Paula leaped onto Riley’s back and reached down to offer her hand to Severus.
He gave a quick sweep of his eyes over the congregated wizards and witches, then took Paula’s hand and let her heave him up to Riley’s back. He was surprised at her strength as he settled himself as comfortably as he could.
“What am I supposed to hold onto to so as to prevent myself from falling off when Riley takes to the skies?” He whispered. Severus had not intended to accept Paula’s offer of flying home, but he could hardly back out of it with the Order standing in the back yard watching them.
“Me.” Was all she said before clicking her tongue, wrapping her fingers in Riley’s mane and shouting. “Jill.”
Severus wrapped his arms around Paula, anxious but determined not to show it, especially in full view of the spectators.
“Albus, what in Merlin’s name is a Riley?” Kingsley asked once they were all back indoors.
The old wizard chuckled. “Riley is exactly what you saw out there. He is half thestral, half unicorn. He is also devoted to Miss Vance and will indeed protect her to the actual point of killing for her, just as she said. Otherwise he is a friendly, affable character, if a bit cheeky at times.”
“Cheeky? You call that thing cheeky? It’s too big to be cheeky.”
“We think it’s cool, don’t we Fred?”
“Very cool George. Think she’ll let us have a ride next time she comes?”
“You two boys will not go anywhere near that creature. I’m surprised the ministry haven’t confisticated it.” Molly Weasley glared at her sons.
“Aw mum it’s not that bad.”
“Fred Weasley, if I ever catch you, either of you within a mile of that … that … Riley thing, I will personally see to it that neither of you can sit on a chair for a week, never mind a … Riley.” She said exasperatedly.
“Sorry mum.”
“You can’t whack us any more.”
“We’re well over legal age now.”
“And we don’t live at home.”
“Molly produced a rolling pin from mid air and chased the laughing twins from the kitchen.
“Molly calm down. Riley would never hurt an innocent, the unicorn part of him would never allow it to happen. In fact a young third year boy at Hogwarts helps care for him each weekend and Riley seems to adore him. As far as the Ministry is concerned, I believe the Minister himself is well aware of Riley.”
“That’s as maybe Albus, but she should not bring it here, what if someone should see it?”
“Riley will only be seen if he wishes to be. As for Miss Vance, she is more than capable of dissolutioning herself.”
