“What is it you wanted to discuss, Severus?” Lucius asked after taking a seat in the parlor they used for more private conversations. It was odd, though, as Severus had requested that Narcissa join them and didn't mind if Draco sat in as well. Of course, as expected, Draco jumped at the chance because he wanted to spend time with Severus, even in this way.
“It's nothing too sensitive, I just don't want it overheard,” Severus told him, settling back, putting a hand on the back of Draco's head. Seeing nods, and relieved looks, he said, “We are working on setting up a schedule for Harry when it comes to Runes and Arithmancy.” Quickly, he explained what they had started the day before. “I do realize this is something that will go by your schedule, Lucius, but we want something in place so we can count on what to do.” Then he explained Black's plan with the elves. “What we thought was this; the night you do come to stay, you block out time to tend to the lessons in person. Harry does know what he's doing, of course, and picks up well from all we know. Then we schedule one day a week with the mirror. It was also my thought that if you couldn't take on the lesson, Narcissa could. She is more than capable of teaching this and Harry is comfortable enough with her that there shouldn't be issues.”“I can easily do that,” Narcissa nodded, smiling just a little as she folded her hands in her lap. “In fact, I think it is something I would enjoy.”“How about we do it this way—divide it into three classes a week for both. One hour each. For the first, Sirius and Remus can take on the reading part. They should have the right book for that as it would have come with the packet. The next class we'll schedule with Narcissa taking it on one set day a week. You can pass us a copy of the book we need and curriculum that they plan to use in school. Then I'll take on the last class when I go over. When we have tests and projects, I'll tend to those when I'm there. It may be odd to have three sets of teachers, as we're all bound to have a different style going about it, but we can ensure two classes are scheduled as the third we can't determine when we can do it as that's going to depend on many different factors.” Lucius explained after thinking it over.“We can go about it that way, yes,” Severus nodded, pleased with that idea.“Once you get everything else scheduled, get with me and we'll set up a day,” Narcissa smiled, actually liking this idea as it would give her something to do that was fulfilling. “That way I can make sure I don't plan anything else.”“I'll do that and have Black send you everything you need,” Severus told her, quite happy with that suggestion. “I do have to add that we're not going to press too much for essays as that's not as easily done without the library handy. So, we're working around some of the lesson plans to deal with those areas another way.”“Easily dealt with and understandable,” Lucius told him with a dismissive wave. “We'll manage something. Runes usually plans for a couple of group projects. That's something we'll have to work around as well. Just send me everything then Narcissa and I will sit down and come up with lesson plans all of us can handle.”“Good,” Severus said with a relieved sigh. “I'll let the two of you take that on. Lupin and I will hammer out the rest. We have much done at this juncture, but do have a bothersome area we have to wait to see on as it involves an odd scheduling area.”“What's that?” Lucius asked, decidedly curious.“Astronomy,” Severus sighed, groaning. Quickly, he imparted the issue then told them, “I picked him up a better telescope with a filter on it for the lights. The shop keeper said he wasn't sure if it would do a good enough job or not. So, they're going to try it tonight and see. If it doesn't work, we'll contact Arthur about using the Burrow for the practical lessons.”“You will do no such thing,” Narcissa huffed, a mulish look on her face. “We'll arrange for them to come here. As you well know, we have a small observatory. He can easily use that. And it's perfect for what you need.”Smiling slightly, Severus nodded, “I'll impart that as well. It would work out quite nicely for what we need.”“We'll plan on that as well then,” Lucius told him. “Any other problem areas we can assist with?”“No, we're fine other than that. Just working through what we were given. Lupin can easily adjust lesson plans to fit what we need and work around limitations that aren't an issue in school, but will end up so for Harry.” Severus explained. Seeing nods, he said, changing topics, “I do have something for Lucius.” Pulling out a letter from Sirius with a copy of the letter Amos had sent Harry, he explained, “Black wants you to contact him when you get time after reading that. Harry needs your advice on how to proceed. It's all explained in there.”Assuming it had to do with what they discussed the other day, Lucius gave a firm nod and slipped the letter into his robe. “I'll get in touch as soon as I can.”“Most appreciated. Harry isn't sure how to proceed with some of what's there and we aren't sure what advice to give him,” Severus sighed, shaking his head.Draco had been closely following the conversation, intrigued by so much. It was still odd to him that his parents were helping Potter. He did understand that things weren't as they seemed and adjusted to that. However, he also remembered what was said during that long talk about asking questions. That's what he wanted to do now. When there was a lull in the conversation and the important topics seemed like they were over, he decided to jump in. “You told me to come to all of you when I needed the correct information on something. So, I have a couple questions.” Seeing nods and his father motioning him to go on, he asked, “How much of what was in the paper yesterday is real? I mean, it's easy to tell it's about Potter.” Then he stopped, waiting to see what was said.Groaning, rubbing a hand over his face, Lucius shook his head then looked at Severus, not sure what to say. Seeing a dour look there, he sighed and said, “Draco, this is something you have to keep to yourself. Understood? No poking or using it for anything.”“Of course, Father,” Draco nodded, interest seriously piqued.“It's all true, but far more involved than what was there,” Severus said softly, folding his arms over his chest.“And far more horrific. Plenty of details were left out,” Lucius added, looking at his son. Gently, he said, “This is why Harry was emancipated and is being homeschooled. As we told you, it's warranted.”Swallowing thickly, Draco looked between the three faces of the adults, seeing similar looks on all of them then muttered, “Oh, Merlin!” Shaking his head, he didn't know what else to say. After a couple moments, he asked, “Dumbledore knew about the worst of it? I mean, the assaults that were mentioned?” He couldn't bring himself to say the sexual part, but was sure they would get it.“Yes,” Severus told him shortly, a pinched look on his face. Shaking his head, he said, “Draco, no poking about this. I know the impulse is there, but Harry is having a rough enough time as it is. He'll be coming over here from time to time because your parents want him, Black and Lupin to enjoy a meal with all of us. During that, we don't want it mentioned.”Nodding to let Severus know he heard, Draco wasn't sure what to say. The only thing that came to mind was the question he finally asked, “How bad was it?”“Plenty bad,” Lucius told him honestly. “We won't go beyond that to give you details.”“The whole article was about him, wasn't it? He's the reason Madam Pomfrey isn't coming back and Dumbledore is in trouble, isn't he?” Draco asked, glancing between his father and Severus.“Yes,” Severus told him. “And that is for a damned good reason. Let's just say they had legal obligations when it came to some areas and didn't fulfill them. For Albus—it was plenty more than that.”“Dumbledore stole from Potter's vaults,” Draco said, brow furrowed. “At least that's what the paper said.”“He did,” Lucius nodded. “He may have paid it back, but there are penalties for such foolishness. Those he'll be paying before this is over.”“I thought Potter was his Golden Boy, one that just followed what he wanted,” Draco muttered, not sure what to think.“No, Harry--,” sighing, Severus wasn't sure how to finish that or explain what he knew without giving details. After a couple moments, he said, “Like we told you before; Harry isn't who you thought he was. After his first year, he wanted nothing to do with Albus and hates him. He has many good reasons for that, ones that go beyond what was mentioned in that article. Albus just—he—what everyone thought was wrong. Let's just leave it there. What was there was an illusion, nothing more. Harry was fed up long ago. You just didn't see that part. I did. Plenty of times.”Shaking his head, Draco didn't know what else to say or ask. After several moments of silence, all the adults looking slightly dour over it, he asked the one thing that came to mind, voice quiet as he did, “Why? Why would he do that and ignore what was going on? I don't understand! All of us thought he would do anything for Potter and protect him against whatever. This doesn't sound like he did that.”“We don't know, Draco,” Severus told him honestly with a shake of his head.“The excuse everyone's been given makes no sense,” Lucius sighed, looking down. Before his son could ask, he told him, “Those Blood Wards and keeping Harry safe. That's all anyone keeps hearing about. None of us think that's the real reason. Severus is desperately trying to get what is really going on, and the reasons behind it, out of the old man. That takes time, though. And delicate footwork. So far, we have nothing. All we know is that Harry needs protected from that old goat. And all of us involved are going to do exactly that. Just like we would for you, Draco.”“It has to be something huge if he would do this,” Draco observed, looking around. He wasn't sure if he would get an answer to that, but hoped so.“We think so as well, but we don't have any idea what it might be,” Severus sighed, shaking his head. “Until we do, we press on as we are. You're around me in the castle and I can protect you like I always have. Harry is out. Everyone will do what they can to keep him safe. That's all we're worried about besides finding a way to get out of this mess.”Shaking his head, Draco just looked around. He had a lot to think about, that's for certain. And he wanted to read that article again to see if there were any more hints he could pick up. This was—he didn't know, but he didn't like it either.
Helping Harry with the castle, Sirius looked up at the mirror that they had moved over into 'Harry's room' and asked Lucius, “Any advice you can give on that? We thought it best to ask you.” Of course, he was referring to the letter he sent with Snape about the mess.
Rubbing a hand over his mouth, Lucius looked down at the missive Amos had sent Harry then said, “I don't know. I really don't. The paper—I expected part of it. We all did, actually. Just not for them to put it together the way they did because that was like a bright and shining arrow pointing at Harry. And I'm sure Cornelius had something to do with it.” Sighing, Lucius looked back at the mirror and asked, “What do you want to do, Harry? Tell me and we'll talk it out from there.”Leaning back against Sirius, holding Elliot close, Harry looked at the mirror then said, “On one hand, I want them to pay for it. I really do. And for it to hurt. I want the Prophet to stop. On the other hand, though, I don't want involved or have to go to court. There's also the idea of what might come if I do start to go after them. I just don't know with this mess. It's hard enough as it is that I don't want to make it worse.”“Completely understandable,” Lucius nodded, comprehending what Harry meant. Sighing, Lucius shook his head, not sure what advice to give. Finally, he said, “I can say that I think if you did go after everyone, most would settle, fast, as they don't have much of a leg to stand on or a defense. The only exception there is the Prophet. Them—because they didn't name you, only inferred with how they put it together, there wouldn't be much you could do. That's just my observation. I don't know, though.” Stopping, he thought it over. After a few moments, he asked, “If you're willing, I could talk to Amos to see what he has to say when it comes to options or what he thinks you should do. I can also have him lay out what is required to go after everyone and the consequences of what may come from those actions. Other than with the Prophet. Let me see what I can do to poke Cornelius. What was put together there was not at all helpful for you. And there were far better ways they could have dealt with the matter. I do realize that what they wanted to impart was the attack on Dumbledore and his credibility. They just didn't go about it the right way. That we didn't need.” Stopping, he waited to see what Harry had to say.Thinking it over, feeling Sirius hold him tight, Harry gave a slow nod. “Yeah, I'll have you do that because I just don't know what to do. If I had an idea of what it could lead to, I might be able to make a choice.”“I'll tend to that in the next few days,” Lucius told him with a nod. “I'll have Amos lay out everything he can for you and give you all the options he can think of. Then we'll sit down and discuss it together.”“That's a good way to go about this,” Sirius said softly. “I'm just worried that if Harry does start to go after plenty, there'll be a backlash we don't want. If Fudge is laying off him and Harry decides to go after something like the Prophet, that might change.”“A valid concern we do need to add to the pile,” Lucius admitted with a nod. “Let me see what Amos has to say. There might be something in his bag of tricks he can pull out to back everyone off without risking that.” Looking at Harry, he said, “As always, come up with a code phrase and send it off.” Then he waited, wondering what oddball and amusing phrase Harry would come up with this time.Thinking it over, Harry said, “Just say Chester Cheetah is a cool cat.”Lips quirking, Lucius snorted then asked, “Do I want to know what that means?”Grinning, Harry explained, “It's a mascot for a snack food called Cheetos.”“Muggles have strange ideas for many areas dealing with foods,” Lucius snorted, shaking his head, though he was completely amused. “Just send it off to Amos and he'll talk to me. I would also suggest that you let him know what the basics are of what you want covered. That will give us both carte blanche to delve into the whole mess.”“I'll do that,” Harry nodded.Settling back now that the worst was over, Lucius crossed his legs then took a sip of his tea before pressing on to less stressful areas. “I'll be able to come over for the night in a couple days time, so we can plan for that. While I’m there, we can not only spend time together, but work on some of the more troublesome bits and areas we're setting up.” Quickly, he ran the two through Narcissa's plan for Astronomy. Snorting, lips quirking again, he said, “And that wasn't a suggestion, but a firm insistence that you will do it that way.”Laughing, Sirius shook his head. “You mean we will or she'll make sure we will?”“Oh yes,” Lucius snorted, looking amused. “It is a better way to deal with the troublesome area, though. We can easily work with what's needed and we don't have to risk involving any others in it.”“Very true,” Sirius nodded, going back to helping Harry put the castle together. Snickering, he said, “And you're picking us up more of these blocks. I'm telling you that now.”“Easily done now that I know what they are,” Lucius told him, smirking at what he was seeing. Looking at Harry, who was working with the blocks, he thought over what Sirius had passed along to him about various areas. Glancing around the 'room' they were in, he was pleased with what he saw. It definitely was a good way to go about hiding this part of what they were doing from everyone else while keeping the room open for the other two to come up and tend to matters. That was good.Taking in the way the 'room' was decorated, he liked that as well. It was most certainly a step in the right direction and looked like the child's room that Sirius was shooting for. Perfect. It meant that, though he was having issues, Harry was working with them and allowing it to press on. That they needed. Quietly, he said, “When I come over, I have some of what you requested. I'll keep an eye out for others that I think you would like, Harry.”Getting the inference about the stuffed animals, Harry flushed slightly but nodded. He wasn't going to say anything, though, just clutching onto Elliot while he snapped blocks into place.“We thought those would be great to decorate with,” Sirius told Lucius, glancing at the mirror while he held Harry close with one arm.“They will be,” Lucius said with a smirk as he knew what he had picked up. Snorting, he added, “And no dragons.”Laughing, Sirius said, “I don't think a dragon would last long in this room. It wouldn't stand a chance against Elliot.” Holding Harry close, Sirius gave him a kiss on the side of the head, seeing his godson grin at what was said. “We're working on one item at a time that Harry wants. If his ideas are anything like these blocks, we're going to have a great time!”“I do have to admit those blocks are most interesting. I took a gander at the books that I picked up and what can be built with them is amazing.” Lucius conceded. Keeping the same tone, hoping not to unnerve Harry, he asked, “Is there anything else along this line that you would like, Harry? I can most easily see the attraction to this kind of toy.” He hoped to put Harry at ease by phrasing it that way. The more Harry asked for what he wanted in this area, the easier it would get.Stopping what he was doing, Harry glanced at the mirror and clutched Elliot close. This still wasn't easy for him. Sighing, he shut his eyes and let his head hang forward as he thought about it. There were so many toys he had wanted as a kid, but wasn't sure if he could say anything. He was also curious about what Wizarding toys were like since he hadn’t actually encountered those. In fact, he really wanted a few to see what they could do. After all, if they were anything like so many other items in their world, he would like them.Stopping what he was doing, Sirius held Harry close, knowing what the problem was as he had dealt with it the last time. Gently, he prodded, “Just one thing, Harry. We'll then go from there.”Leaning fully back against Sirius, Harry clutched Elliot close then said, “I'd like something from our world as I haven't seen any of those.”“I'll find a few of ours to bring over when I come,” Lucius assured him, pleased with what Harry accomplished. He could easily tell how hard that was from the look on Harry's face, but he managed to get it out. “Those are actually easier for me to get my hands on,” Lucius snorted, looking amused. “I'm sure I can find something you'll like.” Another bonus with this was he could remember what Draco was like when he was younger and what interested him. He thought that he could use that. Of course, one of the items would be a remote control broom that Harry could muck about with. He was sure both Sirius and Harry would have fun with that.“How about this,” Sirius started, still holding Harry close. “Daddy Lucius can pick you up some catalogs from our toy stores so you can see what's out there. That way you can choose what you want. He'll grab something good, of course, so you get something, but we can go through them together.” He thought that might be a better way to judge what Harry would like and give him an idea of what was available.“Alright,” Harry nodded. He wasn't sure he could pick them out, but he would try.“Good idea and I'll tend to it while out,” Lucius said. Smirking, he said, hoping to put Harry more at ease, “I say I tend to our toys and you both go tend to the Muggle variety.” It was his thought that getting Harry out of the house and even just looking around would help plenty of areas, including what they were working with.“We can work with that,” Sirius nodded, grinning. “It'll be fun going to Muggle toy stores. Not only can we get some more Legos, but other bits and bobs we can work with to make them do plenty of things.”“I can do that,” Harry breathed, grinning just a little at the thought of all Sirius could come up with to make Muggle toys do.“Oh, this will be fun!” Sirius grinned, chuckling. Holding Harry close and rocking them slightly, hoping to get his godson to calm down, Sirius pressed on, changing topics so Harry didn't end up more stressed. “Have you picked up on any more bits that can help us, Lucius? Or just the same garbage?”Catching on to what Sirius was going for, Lucius went with the topic change. Relaxing in his chair, Lucius said, “Not much, honestly. I'm picking up a few rumblings, but not much. And I'm not sure what they relate to. Cornelius is riding on his power trip, which is completely foolish as he doesn't know who he's helping by doing that, but he also seems like he's planning to go after Albus with everything he has. That can only help.” After that, he went on to explain what he was picking up and how he thought it might factor in.Listening to what was being said, Harry went back to putting the blocks together. Though part of him was still embarrassed by the thought of getting toys and presents, another part was excited by this. After all, growing up he hadn't had such things and wanted them. He still did, too. And he couldn't wait to see what the Wizarding versions were like. Those were bound to be better. He wanted them, too. So, he would go with this. That self-realization actually made him feel better. It was like he was accepting something and that was a relief. Though he was curious about that, he wasn't going to worry about it yet. Later on he would think it over. For now, he would go with and like it.
