There was a short high pitched scream from Kay, the Malfoys assistant, as one of her bosses came flying through the window that separated his office from the rest of the staff. She looked at Lucius as he laid there looking at her momentarily stunned from the spell his best friend had placed on him. She looked towards his office and watched as the dark man threw curses at the younger Malfoy. The younger man was doing pretty good job at dodging them but she could tell that he was getting tired.
“Should I give him my memory of…” She started but Lucius, newly freed from the binding curse, shook his head.
“If he finds out then we’re in trouble” Lucius said and stood up dusting off his jacket.
“If you don’t tell him there is the possibility you’ll be dead” Kay pointed out.
“Severus” Lucius said and quickly unsheathed his wand and summoned the other mans wand “You need to listen to me”
“No, I don’t” Severus seethed “I came home to find my wife curled in to a ball on our bed sobbing like the world had come to an end” He advanced but Lucius pointed his wand at him “That job was everything to her…”
“You know that we love her” Lucius said “But the truth of the matter is Astoria and Narcissa will be traveling a lot and Draco and I want someone to go with them”
“But why?” Severus asked “And why can’t she go?”
“Because they need to stop their senseless spending” Draco answered and jumped when his ex-professor glared at him “They are going to put us in the poorhouse if they keep on the way they have been and we need someone to babysit them. Hermione’s been doing that since we hired her in all forms but she won’t be able to with a new born baby on her hip”
“And you can’t tell me that you’d be okay with her taking your baby on random shopping trips in different countries” Lucius pointed, he nearly sighed aloud when he saw Severus deflate completely as he nodded.
“I would hate it” He sighed “What am I going to do?”
“It’s Hermione Granger” Lucius said “Well, Snape now. She is known to be the brightest witch of her age she’ll have a job offer sooner rather than later and you know that”

Hermione was making dinner when Severus came back. She was embarrassed that he had seen her being so weak but the thought that she had lost her job just because she was pregnant had finally caught up to her and she’d just lost it. Now, with the salad that had the grilled chicken in it and the homemade bread that she’d made, she was hoping that he wouldn’t be too worried about her. He walked up behind her and kissed the back of her neck and held out a present.
“Why are you getting me a present?” She asked taking the box from him.
“It’s not for you” He answered “It’s for the baby”
“Really?” She asked with a smile as she opened the wrapping paper and opened the lid. She lifted out a black and pink knit long-sleeved dress with matching knit pants, hat and booties. He hadn’t been sure of what mood she’d be in when he got home so he decided to make a decision (which he was usually nervous on) about what the baby would wear for her first Christmas.
“Thank you” She smiled “She will love this, I can tell already” She kissed him.
Once dinner had been consumed and they had their fill of sitting outside in a dry bubble on the patio, Hermione decided that it was time to go to bed. It was early but she was bone tired from how much she’d cried that day and she had plans to go out with Ginny the next morning. They climbed the stairs and changed their clothes cuddling under the blankets lying there listening to the breathing of the other in the room. Finally, Severus heard a few hitches in her breath and worried that maybe she was getting ready to cry again but then she spoke.
“I know that there’s still four months until I give birth but I’ve made my mind up on where I want to give birth” She told him.
“And?” He led.
“I want to do it here” She announced “Molly said that she would come over and help with the labor, as will a home-healer along with healer Sharpe to make sure that the ministry is kept up-to-date with what happened”
“The ministry said that they wanted to all women to give birth at Saint Mungo’s” Severus pointed out with a grin “I like your idea much better though”
“Our very last ‘fuck you’ to the ministry before we become successful victims of their law” Hermione said with a laugh that made him laugh as well.
By the time Hermione woke up the next morning and got ready to go with Ginny, Severus had already went off to the school. next morning and got ready to go with Ginny, Severus had already went off to the school. The first time he’d done that to her she’d been terrified that he left her and she ended up a sobbing mess at the Burrow. Arthur had found him and gave him a talking to about how he should always leave a note telling his wife where he’d gone. Sure, enough the first thing Hermione saw a note on his pillow that told her he was back at the school for more cleaning and lesson planning. Dressed in black pants with a sleeveless black shirt that had white flowers over it, Hermione met Ginny outside and apparated to Diagon Alley for some shopping.
“So, are you okay?” Ginny asked casually as she and baby Lily (in a wrap-around Ginny’s chest) walked next to Hermione.
“Does Severus tell you and Harry everything?” Hermione sighed “Let’s hope we never have problems in bed, then I’ll be getting a pep-talk from Harry about how to pleasure my husband”
“Sorry” The red-head said sheepishly “He was just worried about you and didn’t want me to say anything that may make you cry” She laughed “I honestly think that if he could make sure that your labor wouldn’t hurt you, he would”
“Probably” She answered “He’s sweet, believe it or not”
“Well…are you okay?” Ginny pressed.
“Yes” Hermione answered “And no, I mean…I’m angry I guess but hey, that’s what you get from the Malfoy’s, right?”
“I don’t know” Ginny said “Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. Did you really want to babysit Narcissa and Astoria from country to country because Lucius and Draco don’t have the balls to say ‘stop spending all of our money’ to them?”
“I never really thought of it that way” Hermione said looking at a bassinet “I guess that would bother me, watching them just blow through money on frivolous things while other people are working their asses off to make ends meet. It is difficult to see and annoying as all hell to put up with, that’s why I liked working for Lucius and Draco when it was just working for them and not being a babysitter to two selfish grown women”
“Anyway” Ginny said with a laugh as they picked out bottles, nappies and toys “Time for some gossip. Sirius and Pansy decided it was time to leave now that their married”
“Oh, did they go somewhere fun?” Hermione asked.
“No” Ginny answered “That’s the thing, they aren’t allowed to travel until she gets pregnant and then they have to come back every month to get checked out”
“That’s not fair” Hermione said shaking her head “Not right”
“I know” Ginny agreed “However, what’s stranger is the fact that Pansy is totally taking on this amazing wife role. Sirius said that he comes back from his job at Gringotts, because now that he can’t leave he’s working with cursed objects from foreign lands, and she has food made for him, house is clean, clothes are cleaned and she always has a drink made for him”
“Wow” Hermione said.
“Even stranger…” Ginny said
“It gets stranger?” Hermione asked.
“Yes” Mrs. Potter nodded “Apparently, she’s doing all of this work by hand, her own hand not someone else’s. Sirius said that she won’t let them get a house-elf because when she’s taking care of the house she’s not bored and she is no longer talking to her parents so she’s not using theirs”
“Wait a minute…” Hermione stopped in the middle of the lane leading to the clothing store, she needed to purchase some more maternity clothes because she was only getting bigger “You’ve been talking to Sirius?”
“Yes” She answered “We didn’t go to his wedding, as you know. But Harry sent him a wedding gift and then when they were told that they couldn’t leave Sirius showed up at our house to ask if Harry wanted Grimmauld Place”
“Why?” Hermione asked.
“Well Harry said that he didn’t” Ginny answered “So he sold the house because he said that he didn’t need it and didn’t want it. Then he and Pansy bought a house in the country and set up a nice little home there”
“That’s nice” Hermione said as she picked out more clothing “Maybe all that Pansy needed was to get away from her controlling mother”
“Probably” Ginny answered “I met the woman she was a lunatic” They stepped out of the shop about a half an hour later “Do you want to get some lunch and then go food shopping?”
“Yes to lunch” Hermione answered “But no to food shopping, at least for me. If you have to shop I’ll go with you but I don’t have to do any”
“Why not?” Ginny asked as they made their way to a small wizarding café “Deciding to starve Severus?”
“No” She grinned “We head to the school next week and then school starts in two weeks. There’s no reason to shop now and have to throw it away or let it go bad”
“I don’t see why you don’t just live there” Ginny said.
“I hate apparating and it’s dangerous in my condition” Hermione pointed “You know that. By the way do you mind if we take the Knight Bus back, I don’t think I could do apparating again”
“Not a problem” She answered with a grin “Though I always got motion sickness on the bus”
“I don’t” Hermione said “For some reason I find it soothing. Okay, after we eat we’ll do a little more shopping and then we’ll have tea, right?”
“Of course” Was Ginny’s answer.
