No One Comes When You Cry
Chapter 34 White Lotus Flowers
“You have returned at last, errant one.”
“Of course, my lord, I am here to serve.”
“How did you survive? You should be dead. It was her was it not, the Morrigan girl? Tell me.”
“It was, my lord. She healed me.”
“So you wed her and bedded her. Tell me Snape, is she everything you wanted?”
“She is -- adequate my lord.”
“Do you know who she is Snape?”
“I do.”
“And you knew also that she was to marry the younger Malfoy.”
“I did, but I had already made my own plans as regards her, my lord. Even now, she is coming round to the idea that she must serve you.”
Voldemort’s non-existent eyebrows rose at this statement.
“You may just have saved you own neck with that little revelation. Is she obedient to you? Do you take her kindly or are you hard on her?”
Severus knew what the Dark Lord wanted to hear.
“She is obedient my lord and yes, I do take her hard.”
“Show me.”
Severus felt sick as he brought forth the most recent memory of what he did to her. He let Voldemort enter his mind, showing his own brutal rape of his beautiful wife. He stopped the memory just as he began to wake up. It would not do to let the Dark Lord see the anguish he went through when he realised what he had done. It was small comfort that something good might come of what he did to her.
“I am pleased Snape, you have done well. How long before she is ready?”
“Not long, my lord, another week, maybe two and she will be eager to serve you.”
“A week, you have exactly one week to bring her to meet her father. Tell me, Snape, does she know who sired her? Is she eager to meet her daddy?”
“She wants very much to meet her father, my lord.”
“Good. And get that wand away from her. I do not want to see it in her hand when you bring her, or that thing she has round her neck.”
“I cannot my lord. It will not come off and the wand sticks to her as if they are one.”
“Crucio.”
Even with the potion still deep in her system, Sky woke with a start.
“Severus.” She croaked, her voice thick with sleep. She struggled out of bed and fell to the floor. A mixture of pain and potion stopping her from getting to her feet, she crawled to the mirror. As soon as she saw him twitching and writhing on the cold stone floor in front of Voldemort, her heart went out to him.
“Why did you go? You should have waited.” She cried softly.
There was no way for her to help him now. If she went to his side in this condition, neither of them would survive. Through bleary eyes, she studied the new wand in Voldemort’s hand. Holding out her own hand she said.
“Capio.” (I take.)
The Dark Lord’s wand flew through the mirror into her hand. She dropped it on the floor in disgust then looked back at the mirror.
Severus was still on the ground but the curse had ended. Voldemort was looking around wildly, wondering where his wand went.
“GET OUT.” He shouted at Severus. “NOW.”
The Potions Master struggled to his feet and made his way to a point where he could apparate.
Sky opened the bathroom door, crawled into the wall, across the living room floor, into the little corridor and toward the door that led outside. Pulling herself up, she opened the door and leaned heavily on the wall to stay upright as she stepped round the overhang. She could see him leaning against the school gates.
“Severus.”
She croaked, her voice barely above a whisper. There was no way he would hear her and she couldn’t make it as far as the gates.
“Lux.” (Light.)
She whispered. A soft light led from her wand to Severus, letting him know she was there, giving him enough light to see his way toward her. Using the wall for support, he headed in her direction.
“What are you doing here? You should be asleep. And you’re naked.” He told her.
“Am I? Don’t remember, come on.”
She turned and headed back inside, holding onto him as she went, so he could enter. As soon as they were inside, both of them collapsed onto the floor. Severus was spasming as the after effects of the cruciatus wracked his body. She turned her wand on him. The blue light was soon bathing him. It was only a couple of minutes, before he was healed. By the time his eyes fluttered open, Sky lay in a heap near his feet, her neck at an odd angle and her legs tucked awkwardly underneath her.
His guilt was on overload now when he saw the state she was in. She’d somehow woken from a dreamless sleep potion, and come through here to help him after what he did to her. He knew he did not deserve her, but could not see how to make it up to her.
Getting to his feet, he picked her up and carried her through to the living room. The door to his bedroom was closed so he took her into the wall bedroom to lay her on the bed, pulled the covers down from under her and covered her up. Stripping down to his boxers, he joined her, wrapping his arms round her and falling asleep.
On waking, he did not even know what day it was, never mind what time. Sky was still sleeping so he used the bathroom for a quick shower. Rifling through the bathroom cabinet, he found some healing potion and took it back to the bedroom ready for when she woke. It was one of her own and would probably work better than his.
He pointed his wand at the ceiling. Still Sunday, almost supper time, and he needed to speak to Albus. Sitting on the bed, he stroked her cheek with a finger.
“Sky.” He spoke softly. “Sky, you need to wake up now. Sky.”
One corner of her mouth tilted slightly, she started to turn in his direction and froze, her eyes snapping open as the movement caused pain to shoot through the lower half of her body.
“Severus, can’t. Hurts.”
“I know my love. Take this, it will help.” Lifting her carefully he held the phial to her lips so she could drink. “Any better?”
“Yeah.” Her eyes drifted round the room. “Why are we in the wall?”
“You don’t remember?”
“No. Nothing after …after …”
“I shall explain once we are back in our rooms. Can you walk?” He lifted her into a sitting position and she winced.
“I think so. It hurts though.”
Pulling back the covers, he wrapped a blanket round her, lifted her and carried her to the bedroom door, kicking it shut with his foot.
“You will have to open it to get us back through.”
She opened the door and he carried her into the study and through to the bedroom, placing her on the bed. She stiffened and looked away from him.
“Sky I need to apply the salve again. Then you will feel a lot better. Along with the healing potion you have just taken, it will take away most of the pain.”
She nodded but still kept her eyes averted. Walking round the bed to go to the bathroom for more salve, he stood on something. Bending down to pick it up, he found a wand.
“Who’s wand is this?”
“Hm? I don’t know.”
Placing it on the dresser, he retrieved the salve and sat beside her on the bed.
Sky panicked when he started to peel the blanket from her.
“N …no.” She wailed, trying to move away from him but finding it impossible in the tangle of covers.
“Shh. I am only going to apply this.” He held up the jar for her to see. “I promise that is all I am going to do.”
‘Shit she’s terrified of me now.’ He removed the blanket from her.
“I need you to lay on your stomach. Do it for me Sky.”
She obeyed him but she lay rigid as he began applying the cream to her thighs and buttocks.
“I need to go deeper Sky. You have to relax. Roll onto your side with your back to me and pull your knees up. It will be uncomfortable when I do this but it will help you.”
She didn’t want to but he told her to and she felt she had to obey him. Tears sprung from her eyes as she turned on her side and drew up her knees. She tensed when she felt his fingers probing her hole and the cold salve as he tried to get inside her.
“Relax. It will be less painful if you do as I say.”
He felt her muscles relax and pushed his salve covered fingers into her anus gently, pushing in as far as he could, working them round inside as he did earlier. All the time he spoke to her softly, telling her that she was soon going to feel a lot less pain, that she was doing well and how sorry he was.
Once he was satisfied he reached everywhere he could, he removed his fingers and went to the bathroom to wash his hands. As soon as she was alone, Sky found that she hardly hurt at all now. Quickly, she got out of bed, turned her wand on herself and muttered a cleansing spell. She then pointed at the wardrobe. Her clothes flew out and she was dressed. When Severus came back from the bathroom she was gone.
“Sky. Where are you?” He shouted.
He thought she had gone back into the wall and his eyes flitted wildly round the room.
“In here.”
He almost ran into the study, letting out the breath he did not know he was holding when he saw her about to enter the lab.
“What are you doing? You should be resting.”
“The Wolfsbane ... I have to add the Llex otherwise it will be useless and I’ll have to start again.”
“Then I will come with you.”
“There’s no need. I can manage.”
“Nevertheless, I am still coming with you.”
She moved to her worktop and flicked her wand. The cauldron, Llex root and her knife landed softly in front of her. She removed the lid from the cauldron. A flick of her finger and a flame appeared under the cauldron, burning fiercely and soon bringing the now beige coloured mixture to the boil. As it bubbled, Severus watched fascinated as she picked up the root, held it over the bubbling cauldron and began shaving long shreds of Llex into it.
“What exactly does Llex do to the potion?”
“In large amounts, it helps to expand his thinking process. His human mind will be able to overpower his animal mind with ease.”
“And the Hemia? I have not heard of it before.”
“Hemia Salicifola. It relaxes the skeletal muscles to such a degree that his body won’t want to transform into something it’s not supposed to be. Valeriana root has a similar effect but it isn’t as strong and it doesn’t always work on it‘s own. I‘ll put a bit in though, just to help keep his blood pressure down. I noticed he’s very tense.” She snapped her fingers and a small root landed in her palm.
“You did? How?”
“He grinds his teeth. I could hear him doing it when you were talking to him.” As she was explaining, she shredded the small Valeriana root along with the Llex. He noticed how nimble her fingers were as she worked with total confidence. It was like nothing else mattered when she was brewing but at the same time she seemed to be so casual about it.
Once she was done. she wiped her hands down her thighs, rubbing the root juices onto her jeans and pointed her wand at the cauldron. The lid snapped on and sealed itself and the cauldron began to shake about, the mixture inside sloshing about noisily.
It startled him and he stepped back, making to pull her away but she held out a hand to stop him.
“It’s alright. It mixes better this way.”
She stopped the process and removed the lid, aimed a rapid cool spell at it and picked up four good sized bottles. After filling them all, she scourgified the cauldron and her knife and sent everything but the bottles of potion back with a snap of her fingers before cleaning her workspace.
“It’s finished. He can take it up to three days before the full moon but no later than the night before. It needs to work into his bloodstream to have the full effect.”
She turned and walked into the store cupboard, rifling through a row of small boxes until she found what she was looking for.
“White Lotus? What do you need that for?” Severus asked. He’d followed her to see what she was doing.
“Anaesthetic.” She told him as she pulled one petal from a dried flower inside the box.
He followed her to see what she would do with it but when they reached the bathroom she turned and made to close the door on him.
“What are you going to do?” He demanded.
“Put this where the sun don’t shine. Your salve is wearing off.” With that, she closed the door in his face and locked and warded it.
Severus stood looking at the door for a moment, a stunned expression on his face. ‘Where the sun don’t shine. What does that mean?’ Then as if someone had flicked a switch, it registered what she meant and he could not help the slight twitch that appeared at the corners of his mouth. ‘White Lotus petal hmm? Interesting.’
When Sky entered the study, Severus noticed she looked better and walked more like her normal self.
“Better?”
“Yes thank you.” She told him with a slight pinkening of her cheeks as she sat down. “Severus why did you do it? What did I do that made you so angry with me?”
He buried his face in his hands, not able to answer. He knew she would ask him eventually but he wasn’t ready.
“Oh Gods Sky. You did nothing. Nothing. It was not your fault it was mine. I …let things …stupid things spiral out of control in my head. Then the drink, I don’t know. I took all of my anger, my …insecurities out on you and I should not have done so. I will never, never do anything like that to you again. I give you my oath.”
There was a glow of magic that swirled around him for a moment and disappeared.
“I am not asking you to forgive me Sky. I would not expect you to. But please, please give me a chance to prove how much I need you, love you. I do not want to lose you.”
“It hurt Severus. And not just physically. It hurt a lot, I wanted to die while you were … “
“I do not want you to be afraid of me all the time. Sky during the hand fast I did something I should not have done. The vows. I knew you would not understand exactly what was going on and I altered your wording. You promised to obey me always.”
“But why? I’ve always done what you tell me anyway.”
“You grow stronger every day Sky. Your mind is becoming your own as you learn about others, the way they live. I am afraid that one day you will decide not to listen to me any more. That you will want to live your life away from me.”
“No. I would never …”
“You do not know that. You have not yet lived as a young woman should live. You have not experienced the outside world. I hoped to keep you from it. Keep you for myself, away from outside influence. Yesterday at the meeting, when I saw you talking with Lupin and laughing with the Weasley twins I saw you drifting away from me. It was not what I wanted. So I became angry. I allowed others to fuel that anger when they accused me of keeping you under my thumb so to speak.
I cannot change what I have done Sky. It was wrong of me to bind you in such a way. But I will do my utmost to not browbeat you. I want you to experience life. But I want you to experience it with me by your side.”
She was shaken by what he just told her. He must have felt really desperate and unsure of her to change her vows and get her to say that.
“I don’t like what you did Severus. But like you say it can’t be changed now. I …I did something similar at the meeting.”
“I know. You altered the wording slightly when you took your oath. But I understand why you did it and it is not as bad as what I have done to you.”
“Maybe not. But what I’m saying is that I understand how you can do something on the spur of the moment. I didn’t plan to change those words and I don’t think you did either. There wasn’t that much time.”
“I admit it was a last minute decision. But it does not make what I did right.”
She sighed. “No, but it’s done so we’ll both have to live with it. Right now I’m hungry. Can we have some dinner?”
“If you will allow me to escort you, then yes.”
“Let me get changed then. I’m covered in Wolfsbane.” She looked down at the stains on her jeans. “I’ll just be a minute.” She told him and went to the bedroom.
Severus marvelled at her apparent ability to be able to switch things off in her mind as if they did not exist and just go onto something else. He was surprised when she came back into the study wearing a simple black dress. It was sleeveless and reached to the top of her knees. It looked elegant on her and he could not help but admire her in it. She was normally in jeans and t shirt or jumper.
“You look very nice.” He purred, trying not to let his baser instincts kick in, he swallowed, hard.
“Shall we?” He held out an arm in invitation and was relieved when she took hold firmly. He was half afraid she would walk past him and want to walk separately. As they walked, he asked her about the wand in the bedroom.
“Are you sure you do not know where it came from?”
“Haven’t a clue. Might Albus have left it? He can get in your …our rooms can’t he?”
“That is not Albus’ wand. I would like to perform legillimency on you this evening if that’s alright. You were still under the influence of the potion when you found and healed me. It would be interesting to see how you were able to do so.”
“Okay. Maybe I saw whoever left the wand too. Do you think Albus noticed I changed the words when I took my oath yesterday?”
“I know he did, along with several of the more observant members. I am sure he will wish to discuss it with you at some point.”
They entered the Great Hall to see Lucius Malfoy sitting at the head table next to Dumbledore.
“Severus, what’s he doing here?”
“I think we are about to find out. Do not let him frighten you. He is probably just irritated that he cannot dissolve our marriage and wed you to Draco.”
They both noticed that everyone was staring at them, well at Sky to be exact, and not in a nice way either. Severus heard several whispered comments about her and none of them were nice.
“It would seem that Lucius has let the proverbial puffskein out of the bag.”
“What?” She asked him puzzled.
“From what I have overheard,” He whispered. “Your parentage is now common knowledge.”
