Chapter 34

Severus managed to drink one cup of tea to a nervous Kathy�s three. He went to his rooms, removed the ribbon from his hair and brushed it. After handing his cloak up he told Kathy he would be warding the door that led from his office to her rooms, as well as the outer door and not to try and leave as he�d also alarmed them. He promised to return as soon as possible.
Schooling his expression into on of satisfied smugness, he headed back towards the Great Hall.

As soon as he turned the corner from the dungeons entrance he found Dolahov and another Death Eater waiting for him.
To look at them, one would be hard pressed to distinguish them from the throng of guests and students that milled about innocently. Only the other Death Eaters and the Order knew they were there.

�So, was she good?�
Severus turned glittering black eyes on the other man. �Extremely so, but then again Yaxley, so are all females if one knows how to properly arouse their natural animal instincts.� He replied smoothly.
�So where is she then? In you bed I bet. Can we have a go now you�re done?�
�The young lady is somewhat� tied up at the moment and resting.� He said suggestively. �I appear to have ah, exhausted her. And no, you may not �have a go� Dolahov, as you so eloquently put it. I still have the rest of the night to finish sating my own appetite. I do not to share, you know that.�
�Can�t blame a bloke for trying.� Dolahov pushed away from the pillar he was leaning against and took Snape�s arm, moving them out of earshot of Yaxley. �Do you have any idea why we�re here, because I fuckin don�t. All we were told was to watch some tart you were in cahoots with.�

�Indeed, well you have watched, so I must assume your curiosity is now satisfied. Incidentally, the young lady is not a tart, she was just unable to resist my natural charms. You are aware I take it, that you are being watched.� Severus removed his arm from the others grip and walked away.
He headed back to the same table he and Kathy had shared, casually looking round as a fresh glass of wine appeared near his hand. He would have requested a fire whiskey but he wanted to keep a clear head.
Half an hour later Charlie joined him. �As far as we can tell they�ve all gone. Haven�t a clue what it was all about. Did you discover anything?�

�I did indeed, though I prefer to wait until all are gathered before revealing anything. My rooms, immediately this ridiculous fiasco is ended.� he growled, emptying his glass ands rising to search the grounds for errant students who were feeling the Valentines bug a little too amorously.
Feeling much appeased after deducting over a hundred points from his three rivalling houses, and awarding forty to Slytherin because one boy had successfully managed to satisfy two Ravenclaw girls single handily before being caught. After sending all the guilty parties back to their respective common rooms, he stood aside and watched the majority of guests as they said their goodbyes and left.
When he arrived at the door to his office he found several order members already waiting for him.

He unwarded the door and they followed him in.
Severus immediately released the wards to Kathy�s rooms and opened the door.

He was practically knocked of his feet as she flew at him.
�Where have you been? What happened? Why where those men here? Is Albus coming to explain?�
Severus unwrapped her arms from round his neck, flicking his eyes sideways so she would realise that others were present in the room.
�Oh, I�m sorry. I thought� I didn�t know� what�s happening Severus?�
Fortunately Albus entered at than moment, to a barrage of questions.
Once he was sure everyone was present, he called for order.

�Tonight I attempted to make known Kathy�s presence here at Hogwarts in the hopes that yes, word would reach Voldemort�s ears. What I did not expect was that the news would be relayed so quickly. I made a grave error of judgement and for that I apologise. As a result, nine Death Eaters managed to breech our security in the guise of guests, unfortunately I have no clue as to why they were present. Their numbers were not sufficient to be a direct threat to us, considering they were outnumbered by about thirty to one. Still, they did appear, even though they did not do anything.�

�They came to discover who the woman was that accompanied me to the ball. Nothing more.�

All eyes turned to Severus.

�Dolahov stopped me as I was removing Kathy to the dungeons, it was he who eventually told me why they were here. Yaxley was with him when I emerged a little over an hour later, neither knew why the Dark Lord wanted information on her.�
�So why did you wait to come back upstairs? Why not bring her down here and come straight back when you knew there might have been trouble?�
�Black, I might have guessed. I needed to give them some excuse as to why I was taking her to the dungeons. I told them the first thing that came into my head, it meant waiting a reasonable amount of time to validate my story.�
�Right, and what lie did your devious little mind come up with Snivellus?�
Kathy had heard enough. This man was like evil personified. Who did he think he was? She stepped through the small group between her and Severus until she was facing the man who�d tried to force his attentions on her the first time they met.

�You, are a disgusting, nasty, little man. How dare you question what Severus did, he did what he had to protect me, maybe even save my life. It doesn�t matter what he told them, the fact was he tricked them into letting us pass. I don�t like you Mr Black, and right now I�m not wearing my gloves, so if you don�t want me to drain you of so much energy you can�t even lift your dick to have a piss, I suggest you shut your fat mouth.�
Sirius turned an odd shade of grey, his hands instinctively covering his private parts while the whole room went totally silent.
Kathy�s knees started to tremble with the shock of what she�d just said, what she�d threatened to do. Clapping a hand to her mouth, she turned and fled to her rooms.

She didn�t hear the clapping and cheers from her bedroom, instead she threw herself on the bed and cried.
�I hope you�re pleased with yourself Sirius Black. You deserved that.� Molly told him crossly. �Severus I think you did extremely well getting Kathy out of the way so quickly. Well done.� Now I�m going to see to that poor girl, Arthur will bring me up to date later.�
Severus was shocked at Kathy�s outburst, and he was not happy about her fighting his battles for him, but the look on Blacks face certainly compensated for any slight he might have felt and he smirked. �Looks like you won�t be invited for tea Black.� He commented smugly.
Black threw him a glare, but it was a weak one and Severus didn�t bother to acknowledge it.
Molly was having trouble consoling Kathy. �Come on dear, most of us have had a go at someone in the past, and Sirius deserved that.�
�You don�t understand Molly, I threatened to Leech him. I should never have done that. All my life�s been spent apart from everyone, alone, and it�s because of this damned Leeching. Since Severus brought me here I�ve been learning to control it, and now I�ve gone and let my temper get the better of me and tried to use it against someone.�
�You got angry yes, who doesn�t? But you only threatened to Leech him, you didn�t actually do it did you?�
�No, but I might have done if he�d said anything else.� She said, sniffing and sitting up.
�Somehow I doubt that Kathy. I many ways you remind me of myself at your age. Take a long time to rile, but when you let go, fireworks. You are also a very compassionate woman, you would never intentionally hurt another if you could help it, you have a protective nature when someone you care about is under threat. That is why you scared the hell out of Sirius tonight.�
�Does everyone hate me now?�

Molly laughed. �Not at all, I think even Remus was smiling at Sirius� reaction, and they�ve been friends since they were children. When I left the room Sirius was cupping his family jewels.�
�Oh God, I can�t believe what I said to� oh God. I don�t normally say things like that Molly, honest I don�t.�
�We say whatever comes into our heads when we�re angry enough. Personally I had trouble keeping a straight face, just don�t ever tell anyone. Now go wash your face dear, and we can go find out what�s really going.�
�Oh Molly I can�t. I can�t face them after� what I did, what I said.�

�Of course you can, and I can guarantee that most of them will be silently singing your praises, and Sirius will be eager to apologise to you if it means his noonads will still function. I dare say Severus will be pleased to see you as well, it�s not often anyone sticks up for him like that.�
Kathy headed for the bathroom and when she emerged from her bedroom ten minutes later, she found her living room and kitchen invaded by the Order members, drinking her tea and raiding the biscuit tin and the cooling cabinet.
She noticed Severus hogging a plateful of buns to himself, then she noticed Sirius sitting alone in the far corner of the living room. She approached him.

�Mr Black?�
