Starting to heal a bit.
The next couple chapter will be largely in Draco's and Edge's POV. Harry and the others of course are still there.

Draco was relieved when Edge returned to the rooms in slightly better spirits. He did not ask how things went but the vampire looked lighter than he had in weeks even if still a bit sad. Progress was progress and it made Draco happy that Edge and Harry had met up and talked. Finally.
The next night, Harry met him at the door for their lessons. There was still a melancholy echoing around Harry, but he smiled at Draco (a true genuine smile) for the first time in the last month. Draco returned it warmly before shifting and trotting along by Harry’s heels. Their lesson was more of a review with Professor Flitwick to help prepare them for exams that they had completely forgotten about. Honestly, who could blame them?
Afterwards, Harry was to go with Edge, Sirius, and Remus to work on some training. The two wolves were thrilled to see Harry join them with Edge at his side and didn’t hide it the least little bit. Smiles and hugs were given all around. Harry did appear genuinely happy but sadness still lurked in the corners.
Silver watched the four with a heavy heart knowing that he was going to be returning to his rooms alone. There would be no way he would be able to keep up with them, he knew, so it didn’t make any sense to him why he would be bothered. Regardless, he felt left out. He wanted to spend time with Harry as he missed their private chats. Silver wanted to run with Edge, just once.
Who was he kidding? Just once? The little jackal had the sudden urge to go weave himself around the vampires feet. Definitely time to leave them to themselves. Silver had taken two steps back towards the dungeons when Edge called out to him.
“Silver, would you like to join us tonight?”
Silver paused his front foot still in the air poised to step forward. Instead, it moved and placed back as the jackal turned back around to face the group. Sirius and Remus gave each other a look with soft smiles on their faces behind Edge’s back. Harry grinned at him knowingly but remained silent. Silver looked at Edge to find the vampire watching him almost…hopefully? He tilted his head. Was he truly being invited? But what for?
*Um…what good would I be?*
“We are going to keep things simple tonight so we won’t be going far or fast.” Edge shrugged. “Thought you would like to get out of the castle and get some fresh air.”
Fresh air sounded awesome. *Okay. Yeah, sure.*
Silver did his best to ignore his now wagging tail as the group, now plus one, walked out over the grounds towards the forest. He definitely ignored Harry’s soft snickers of amusement. After the last month, if Harry wanted to make fun of him, he could tolerate it.
They ended up in the small clearing that Silver had first stumbled upon Harry as Shadow. The moon, though waning, was bright and allowed Silver to see with no problems. Edge bent over to pick up a small rock before jumping up onto the much larger one on the edge of the clearing by the tree. They watched with confused expressions as it transfigured into a large beach ball in Edge’s hands. He sent them a playful small.
“Tonight, we are going to play.”
“Play?” Sirius asked. “Play what?”
Edge shrugged. “No set game.” He sent them all a sad but encouraging look. “It’s not been easy for any of us and I thought we could lighten things up a bit, just for tonight, before hitting things hard and heavy to prepare for what’s coming. We need a break and I thought this would be a fun way to reconnect.” Edge suddenly looked unsure when no one said anything. “Um, Silver is with us, so it could be looked at as an exercise of self-control if you wanted to.”
It was painfully obvious that Edge just wanted to relax and have fun. The vampire was clearly tired and stressed, plus it would be a fun way to reconnect the group after being separated. Silver wanted to do it. He yipped. The others looked at him, then each other, before turning back to Edge who was looking a bit deflated by now. A slow smirk appeared on Sirius’ face before he shifted into Padfoot, jumped up and hit the ball out of Edge’s hands with his nose. Edge was frozen in momentary surprise even as the ball soared through the air only to be punted back up by Remus.
“We are a little uneven for teams.” Harry stated watching the two keeping the ball in the air.
Edge jumped down laughing softly at the two in amusement. “We don’t have to do teams.” Harry looked like he wasn’t sure he was allowed to have fun. Edge put an understanding hand on his shoulder. “I’m sorry. If this is too much…”
Harry shook his head. “It’s okay. I may not get too involved, but don’t let that stop you guys, okay.”
Silver was so preoccupied watching and listening to the two vampires that he was unaware of the falling ball until it took him out. He yelped and rolled even as the ball bounced off him. Stunned, he blinked wide eyed before standing and shaking himself off.
“Shit, sorry.” Sirius said apologetically while Remus flinched slightly.
Harry couldn’t stop the small snigger that escaped him.
Edge stepped toward Silver concerned. “Are you okay?”
*Yeah, I’ll live.* Silver mumbled embarrassed. Geez, that was lame; taken out by a bloody beach ball of all things. Sometimes Silver cursed his small size.
Edge had picked up the ball and was now standing beside Silver looking down at him warmly. “No one will see you out here if you would like to transform.” Edge volleyed the ball back toward Sirius.
Silver looked around quickly as though to seek out the truth of the vampires words before shifting as suggested. Draco looked up just in time to keep the ball from meeting his face.
“You guys are doing this on purpose.” He accused glaring at his professor and his mate.
Both chuckled warmly if not mischievously. “We are doing no such thing.” Sirius smirked catching the ball when Draco threw it back at him.
From then on it was a competition of dodge ball. It was the two wolves versus Edge and Draco. Needless to say the wolves won. Even with Edge’s vampire speed and strength Draco was limited. Part of Draco felt bad for holding their side down but it was fun anyway. Edge never complained once. The vampire was honestly all smiles and laughter. It made Draco feel warm and fuzzy, more so when those smiles were directed at him.
Harry watched from the side lines but he would throw the ball back to them when it detoured in his direction. Clearly, it was sent his way on purpose but Harry didn’t call them on it. He was enjoying watching them battle it out but did not have the willpower to join in. Honestly, he felt like the odd one out. Sirius and Remus was a mated pair. It was clear that Edge and Draco was growing closer and had a thing for each other. Whether or not Edge would act on it or not was an entirely different story; that was, if he even could.
It was close to midnight before they decided to call it quits. Sirius and Remus were flushed but smiling and happy, obviously feeling younger than they had in some time. Edge was even breathing slightly faster than normal as he bid them and Harry good night. Harry waved to them sending Draco a sympathetic glance. The blonde sat sweaty in the grass. He had given it his all but eventually had to give up – that was two hours ago and he looked ready to pass out there in the forest. Harry was sure that Edge would make sure Draco got back into the castle safely.
Edge took a few moments to breathe in the night air and listen to the sounds of the forest around them. He listened to the soft breathing of Draco behind him and the steady rhythm of his heart. The wind blew his scent toward Edge and he breathed in deep taking it in. Sweat was thick in his scent and Edge knew that his skin would be salty with it. He wondered what his blood would taste like with the added flavor. Edge shook his head to clear his thoughts before they could run away with him. He must be getting hungry - that would explain the sudden cravings.
Edge heard Draco stand and turned to face him. The blonde looked exhausted not that Edge could blame him. Draco had done remarkably well during their game. Edge had been surprised he had lasted as long as he did.
“You going to make it back to the castle?” Edge teased softly.
Draco didn’t even have the energy to glare. His muscles felt like lead. He yawned. “Shut up.”
Edge chuckled fondly. “Come on, little dragon, shift and I’ll carry you back.”
Draco flushed but did as told. The thought of walking back to the castle filled him with dread at this point he was so tired. Silver walked slowly to Edge. He yawned again as Edge picked him up and cradled him close to his chest. Silver rested his head on the dark haired vampires shoulder and closed his eyes. He did not remember making it to the castle - let alone their rooms.

Edge paced back and forth anxiously. He was waiting on Nagini. It was her normal night to collect her meal and she was late. It did not sit well with the vampire. The snake was never late. He needed to know what snake face had found out (if anything) before he had Severus killed.
Edge gritted his teeth to keep himself from doing anything stupid. The trees swayed around him as the wind blew through. It did little to calm his nerves. He clenched his fists as he stared down at the large deer he had recently collected. Where was Nagini?
A soft rustle of leaves caught his attention. Edge jumped silently onto the closest tree limb out of sight. He could see a good distance from his vantage point and yet no one would know he was there. No one ever looked up.
Eventually, the rustling grew close enough he could recognize the sounds of Nagini as she moved across the forest floor. About bloody time. Edge was seriously getting antsy and had started to contemplate leaving for safety. He jumped down as the large snake came into view.
“Nagini.”
*Living death.* She slithered close her voice a soft hiss. *You are not ssssafe here.*
“What does he know?” Edge felt his anxiety increase as he looked around him looking for anything off.
Nagini raised herself up to look Edge in the eyes. *Everything.* She blinked before lowering herself down and moving toward her meal.
Edge felt his blood slow. “What do you mean everything? I need specifics.”
The snake hissed her annoyance at not being left to her meal. Nagini curled her body, raising her head to stare down the vampire in front of her. *He knowssss the dragon isss at the sssschool. He’ss planning assss we ssspeak.* Edge felt his heartrate increase as she continued. *He knowssss we meet. Thisss will be the lassst time I can meet with you.* Nagini lowered herself back to the ground.
“Does he know about the wolves?” Edge had been hopeful but he should have known better. Of course the lunatic would have tortured Severus before raiding his mind. Anger filled him again.
*He did not mention wolvessss in my presence but that doesss not mean he doesss not know.*
Edge lowered his head to stare angrily at the ground. Odds were if he knew about the rest, he knew about the wolves. Voldemort knew all their trump cards. Fuck. Edge ran a shaking hand through his hair.
“Thank you, Nagini. I can continue to hunt for you.”
*Don’t.* Nagini hissed encircling the deer meant for her. *I am capable. Do not rissssk yoursssself for my sssake.*
Edge left Nagini to her meal, not wishing to witness the breaking of her jaws to fit the deer in her mouth. As much as he loved snakes it always freaked him out a bit how they could eat something much larger than them.
He rushed back to the castle. Dumbledore had asked him to report back. Edge had been hesitant but with the news he received the old man would need to be aware. This put them at a severe disadvantage and he knew where Draco was. That made Edge even more anxious. Edge thought about going to the blonde first but decided against it at the last moment. The little dragon was most likely with Harry and his friends perfectly safe and sound. Besides, Nagini had said plans were still being made.
Edge knocked on the Headmasters door and entered once bid. Fawkes greeted him with a soft trill. Edge returned the greeting with a soft smile. Phoenix song was like that, no matter how short.
Dumbledore sat solemnly behind his desk looking years older than he was. “How did your visit with Nagini go?”
“Straight to the point this evening.” Edge sat in one of the chairs, one leg over the other and his hands clasped together in his lap to stop them from fidgeting. “He knows.”
The old man sighed wearily. “How much?”
Edge sighed. “Everything. Your hunch was correct.”
Dumbledore removed his half-moon glasses to rub the bridge of his nose tiredly. “I had hoped I was wrong.” He returned them to their rightful place. His blue eyes looked dull behind them. It put Edge on, well, edge.
“Nagini unfortunately will not meet with me anymore.”
“So we will be operating blind.” Dumbledore moved his eyes to look at Edge. “Unless of course you could listen in on meetings.”
Edge snorted. “You’ve said so before that I can only be in one place at a time. Sure, I would love to listen in but I, unfortunately, do not have a way of knowing when meetings are held. So, which is more important, me training Harry and the wolves, or standing outside the manor every night on the off chance of a meeting?”
“You are right, of course.” The Headmaster leaned back in his chair. “Your talents and skill are better put to use here. It is paramount that they are ready for anything, especially now.”
They sat quietly a few moments, each lost in their own thoughts. Edge switched his legs in a bid to remain calm. Maybe he should have checked on the little dragon first. His entire being was itching to leave this office to do so. It was irrational.
“I can safely assume he also knows that young Mr. Malfoy is here as well.”
Edge tensed. Dumbledore looked at him calmly. Edge forced himself to relax. “Yes, he does.”
Those blue eyes closed briefly. “It would be best to move him to another location.”
Edge narrowed his eyes. “I thought Hogwarts was the safest place in the wizarding world other than Gringotts.”
“This is true, but there are other students I must also think about. Chances are he will send the werewolves to collect him considering that he gave Mr. Malfoy to Fenrir.”
“Draco is not a thing to be given away.” Edge growled through clenched teeth.
Dumbledore raised a hand in an attempt to calm Edge down. It didn’t work. “I am not saying he is – just stating facts as they currently stand.”
Regardless, Edge was not mollified. “The choice should be left to Draco whether he leaves or not.”
“He could be moved to Grimmauld…”
“And what of his lessons? He will not wish to forego them.”
Edge knew that the old man was right. Of course he was. So, then why was he fighting this so hard?
Those blue eyes stared over those half-moon spectacles at him. Edge suddenly felt as though he was being studied. He tensed.
“I could have everyone moved to Grimmauld if that would be better.” Dumbledore asked curiously.
Edge huffed a laugh. “If you think Harry is going to be leaving Severus’ old quarters any time soon you really have gone mad.”
Dumbledore sat forward resting his chin on his clasped hands. He looked at Edge as though he was slowly fitting together a complicated puzzle and was just short a few pieces to having it all figured out. It made Edge’s skin crawl.
“I had been thinking of moving your clan to a different location with more room to stretch out during your trainings; somewhere that there were no students to worry about. Harry would be allowed to take whatever he wanted from Severus’ old rooms. Draco could be moved to a safe house…”
Edge was shaking his head. He was not going to let the old man finish that thought. “If that is the case then Draco, Ron, and Hermione will be going too.”
Edge froze the minute he registered what he had just said. The implications did not escape him and they did not pass by Dumbledore either. When had this happened?
“I was not aware humans could be part of a vampires clan.” It was said softly. No judgement but curious.
Edge felt his eyes close as he took a deep breath. “I was unaware myself but apparently I consider them as such.”
Edge hated admitting that. He had no clue when it happened either. All he knew was that he would protect them as his own, human or not. It did explain his resistance to having any of them removed from Hogwarts. Clans were meant to remain together. Edge had thought it was just Severus’ connection to Harry that had him worried every time the man left for a meeting but maybe there was more to his anxiety than he first thought. Maybe this was why he always insisted on all of them being together when something bad happened. Maybe this was why losing Severus had hit him as hard as it did.
He could blame his growing feelings for his protectiveness of Draco. There had been something about the little dragon from the start that drew him in. Then he had gotten a taste of the youngers blood. Edge had not lied when he told Draco his was his favorite. The small direct taste he had gotten the other day had remained on his thoughts frequently. It taunted him, almost as though drawing him in for another taste. Merlin, did Edge want another, more fulfilling, taste.
Ron and Hermione were surprising though. He couldn’t remember ever feeling the urge to round them up but couldn’t deny he always felt better when they appeared at Harry’s side when he needed them. Could it be that Harry had developed his own mini clan within their bigger one and he was simply reacting to that? It would be odd but not completely unheard of.
Dumbledore regarded him quietly. Edge remained tense to refrain from fidgeting. He hated to be scrutinized. He always had. A soft, understanding smile appeared on the Headmasters face.
“You and yours may remain at Hogwarts if that is your wish. I merely request that it is a group decision that is made with everyone knowing all the facts.”
So, that was what Edge did. After leaving the office, he immediately rounded everyone up, including the humans, and collected them all into his rooms. Edge did his best to ignore how much he relaxed having everyone in one spot. He explained everything he had found out and Dumbledore’s request making sure to deal softly with sensitive topics.
“You consider us part of your clan?” Ron was the first to speak after Edge was done. He looked surprised and maybe even a little in awe.
“Really, Weasley, all of that and that is what you are stuck on?”
Ron glared at Draco. “I heard. Excuse me if I kind of feel flattered here okay.”
Hermione looked curiously at Edge. “Can humans really be part of a clan?”
Edge shrugged. “Most likely you two are more part of Harry’s than mine. Remus would be Harry’s. Sirius would be mine considering the Guardian bond. Having multiple small clans make up one big one is not strictly unheard of. Humans being involved in them, though rare, are also not unheard of even amongst other breeds of vampire.”
“But you would the Head vampire of this one?” Hermione continued to question. Edge found her thirst for knowledge semi frustrating sometimes but admired her drive at the same time.
“That does appear to be the dynamic now that I think about it. I would be Clan Sire as it were.” He answered the question he saw burning in her gaze.
“What of Dante? He’s your Sire right?”
Edge shook his head vehemently with a small growl. “This one is mine.” At every ones surprised, and nervous, expressions at his reaction he took a breath to calm himself. “Sorry. Dante is technically not my Sire as it was not his blood that turned me. We were a clan, albeit a small clan of three, and he was the Clan Sire then. It seems I have stepped into my own since his departure.” Edge found he did not find that particular discovery as upsetting as he thought he would.
“And me?” Draco spoke from his chair. “Who’s do I belong to?” Draco appeared genuinely curious but also a little unsure.
Edge was unsure how to answer. He knew Draco was definitely in the clan but to which vampire he belonged he didn’t want to examine to closely himself.
“You’re Edge’s.” Harry spoke for the first time that evening. All eyes turned to him. Edge looked at him slightly confused.
“Harry…”
“Does it really matter though?” Harry cut over him. Edge grumbled irritated but Harry acted as though he didn’t hear the soft growls. “We are all one clan. Even if he was mine, which he is not, he would still be yours as well. You are Clan Sire. That’s what that means, right?”
Edge nodded slowly. Harry had a point, but to say Draco was his? Shouldn’t he be Harry’s? He was Harry’s friend first after all. Course Edge had been feeling protective lately when he hadn’t so much at first. Was there something he was missing? Could drinking his blood have done it? No, things had started changing before that. When he had heard snake face had given – given – Draco to Fenrir he had almost lost his control. Draco had not been his to give, but Draco was not Edge’s either. Was he? Of course not.
“We have gotten off track.”
Edge would never admit how much he was lost in his thoughts that Remus speaking made him startle. “Yes, we have. I have told you everything we know. We are now operating blind in this war. Snake face knows everything we do now. Dumbledore has asked for a group consensus on what we are doing. Staying here or leaving to another location.”
“I’m staying.” Harry spoke clear and determined. He did not even pause for thought. Edge had expected as such. He nodded.
Remus and Sirius looked at each other. A silent conversation seemed to pass between them. Sirius turned back to Edge. “We are staying as well.”
Edge had expected that as well. He knew they would not leave their godson. It did not matter if Sirius was bound to him or not. He nodded before looking to the three humans. Ron and Hermione looked at Harry then turned to Edge.
“We go where he goes.”
Edge smiled at them. Their loyalty was astounding. He saw Harry smile at them thankfully.
“Draco?” Edge questioned looking at the blonde. He suddenly felt nervous that Draco would want to leave. Would he let the blonde go if he chose to do so? Yes, but he would not like one minute of it. Edge had gotten used to the young man being in his rooms. It would be weird if he were to leave now. Edge refused to acknowledge the cravings he felt for the little dragon lately.
“Well, if everyone else is staying then I guess I am too.” Draco shrugged.
Edge frowned. “If you wish to leave…”
Draco looked at him sharply. “Do I look like I wish to leave?”
The blondes expression was challenging as though daring him to question Draco further. Edge felt himself bristle at the blatant challenge but was also…turned on by it? Damn was he falling into trouble.
Sirius snorted bringing Edge and Draco out of their staring contest. Harry and Remus were softly smiling at him in a knowing manner.
“The dragon is staying Edge.” Sirius chuckled in a teasing manner. “I don’t think you have to worry about that.”
Edge felt his cheeks heat slightly. “I wasn’t worried.”
“Hey.” Ron spoke out. “Since we are all staying, and we are all clan here, does that mean we can join in on the comfort piles? I mean, if that’s not too weird.” Ron blushed toward the end as all eyes fell on him.
Edge laughed. He felt lighter than he had in years despite the awful start to his night. “I don’t see why not. We could do one tonight if everyone wanted?”
There were agreements all around but from Harry. The young vampire looked hesitant and unsure. Edge looked at him concerned.
“Do you not want to, Harry?”
Harry looked up at him. “I do.” He said earnestly. “But, can we move to my rooms?” Harry asked hesitantly.
Edge understood. Some of Severus’ scent still lingered. Humans wouldn’t be able to pick up on it but he knew Harry could and if Harry wanted to take in what scent was left then Edge would not begrudge him that.
It took them a while to get everyone situated. Sirius and Remus opted to stay human this time and everyone got their own blankets and pillows. Ron and Hermione remained close to Harry with Hermione lying between the two boys. Edge was between Harry and Draco. They chatted about anything and everything. It didn’t take long for Hermione and Ron to fall asleep. Remus and Sirius followed soon after. It was not surprising with the four of them being on more day schedules than Edge, Harry, or Draco. With Draco taking his lessons with Harry, and of course staying up to visit with Edge, he had adapted to a more nighttime schedule. He still ended up falling asleep a couple hours later.
Edge and Harry lay in comfortable silence so they did not disturb their sleeping comrades. Edge tensed when Draco rolled close to his side. The heat from Draco burned into his cooler skin and he had to resist the temptation to wrap himself around the little dragon. He ignored Harry’s sad, knowing look and absorbed the peace he felt with everyone around him. Edge could hear them all breathing as they slept and could keep track of their steady heartbeats telling him they were alive and well. It settled him and he felt content.
His only wish in that moment was that he could have had all his clan there, but the lingering scent of Severus on the air helped sooth him even though he knew it would not be there much longer.
