“Is everyone here and accounted for?” Severus asked. “Do you have all of your limbs? Does anyone need assistance?” The trip was a success, as he knew it would be. “Now, we haven’t much time. You best start practicing now. Break into groups while I go and fetch your teacher.”
Severus headed back to the house as quickly as he could. He was anxious to see his wife. They saw so little of each other as it was and he missed her terribly. He would be lying if he said that he wasn’t looking forward to running with her tonight, werewolf be dammed. The closer to the house he got, the more his heart fluttered. But something caught his attention, something very wrong. He burst through the door in a panic.
“Unca!” Addie Mae screeched from her new mother’s arms. “Teefs! So many teefs!”
“What’s wrong child?” Severus asked, taking the distraught child from Narcissa.
“Not happy day. Too many teefs.”
“Vampires?” He asked in shock.
“No, pack teef!” she said through tears. “My Aiden, he bloods. I no like bloods.”
“When did she start this?” He demanded.
“As soon as she stepped foot in the house,” Harmony said, her face rather pale and drawn.
“She’s right, isn’t she?” He asked, dreading the answer.
Harmony nodded. “Rhap brushed against someone a moment ago and I got a brief vision. It isn’t clear, but she’s seeing us being attacked by another pack.”
“But we have to run tonight,” Severus said with a frown. “The others will have no choice in the matter. With Lupin here, it’ll be instinct.”
“Which is why I’ve offered to return home,” Remus said from the corner. “However, they insist I’m needed. I did send Teddy and Victoraire back with Timmy. I know it’s selfish.”
“It’s smart,” Celeste interrupted. “There’s no since in increasing the casualties.”
“It’s also selfish on our parts,” Ginny said from the stairwell. “But Remus, we really need your presence tonight.”
Harry nodded. “If we get attacked by another pack of altered werewolves, they’ll cower to a full one.”
“But they’re being controlled,” Severus said with a frown.
“Control or not, instinct is instinct,” Philippe said quietly. “It’s a lesson I’ve had quite a bit of experience in unfortunately.”
“How are you faring?”
“As well as to be expected.”
“Stop being modest,” Alex snapped as he shuffled into the room. “He’s doing better than most of the vampires I’ve ever met and twice as good as me.”
“Stop!” Celeste said before anyone could go on further. “This is getting us nowhere. Harmony, what do we do?”
“Oh Gods,” she said, collapsing on the floor. Philippe scooped her up in his arms, rocking her back and forth.
“I thought you couldn’t do that?” Harry asked.
“I’ve been able to since I was touched. Sometimes, I can even help her focus.”
Harmony let out a terrified scream before clutching onto Philippe’s lapels. A few moments later, she slumped, sobs wracking her body. Philippe stroked her hair, a sober expression on his features. She gathered herself a few moments later.
“There’s no time to lose. Narcissa, take Addie, go to the portkey in the back fourty, and go to Hogwarts immediately. Hang out in the Headmaster’s office. Don’t leave it. It’s the best spot in the school. If you’re here, they’ll find you and take you.”
Narcissa didn’t need a second thought. She snatched Addie from Severus’s hands and ran outside.
“Demitri, you have a choice. Stay and fight or go with her.”
“My consequences?”
“If she’s snatched before she can make it to the key, you’ll never see her again.”
“She’s not going to make it is she?” His eyes were haunted.
“Not without help. You might end up having to make the hardest decision of your life.”
Demitri’s eyes flashed brightly. “So be it.” He disappeared.
“Ten galleons says she’s got fangs in a week,” Celeste joked but didn’t feel it.
Harmony’s compact rang. She answered it with shaking hands. Melody spilled what Rhap had seen quickly. Before she could finish, Alex was out the door and headed for the portkey to Severus’s quarters. The rest of them rallied and headed out for the children. They only hoped Rhap’s prediction wasn’t true. Harmony’s face wasn’t very encouraging… but she didn’t dare say anything. They all knew how tiny a ripple was that could change everything.

Aiden smiled at Zandra as she pulled Jonah to the side and quickly transformed. She was a natural…and a beauty. It was slightly disturbing to have carnal thoughts about an animal but he attributed that to the heightened senses he’d garnered from his wolf. Still, he’d have to be careful.
“Earth to Aiden,” Serena growled.
“Sorry,” he said sheepishly. “Now, what you’ll do is think of the feeling when you transform into a bat.”
“If I do that, I’ll shift.”
Aiden shrugged. “Do it.”
Serena hissed at him and turned, flapping in the air for a few moments before shifting back to herself.
“So, you felt the tingles.”
“Obviously,” she sneered.
“Now then, I want you to think about Gregory.” She pulled a face. “I mean it Ser. Think about how angry he made you that day. What did you want to do with him?”
“Ugh, I just wanted to rip him limb from limb!”
“How?”
She blushed deeply before finally whispering, “with my fangs.”
“Wouldn’t it be cool if you could do that without being collared as a vampire?”
“You know it would.”
“You could as a wolf. So, what I want you to do is focus on that feeling, the need to rip into him, bite him, crush him between your jaws and feast on his blood.”
Her eyes glowed indigo but she looked scared. “A, I don’t like this feeling. I…I feel out of control.”
“Shhh, it’s okay. You’re not going to act on it. You’re going to harness it. Think of that feeling, hold it in your mind, and then combine it with the tingles. Go on.”
Serena nodded, not at all comfortable with it but doing as she was told. She trusted Aiden completely. He wouldn’t allow her to lose control. He was her brother, her coven, her…pack. Pack. She wished so badly to be a wolf. Hell, she had the senses of one now. What would it be like to enjoy her prey with no sense of guilt, to rip Gregory’s stomach apart and howl in victory?
She growled, pushing towards the tingly feeling of shifting. Her body obeyed, shifting and twisting. It was over in an instant but it felt…different. Her wings weren’t flapping. There was no breeze, no echoes in her ears. What on earth?
“Told you,” Aiden said smugly. “You really do kind of look like mom now. Never figured you for a russet though.”
She opened her eyes and noticed that he was much taller than before, like a giant. No, he wasn’t taller, she was shorter. Why exactly was she standing on her hands? She looked down to see her paws…PAWS! She’d done it. She was wolf! At least, she hoped she was wolf.
“Don’t worry,” Aiden chuckled. “You are very much wolf. Go on, get a feel for it. It’s amazing.”
She yipped in excitement and tried to beg him to turn but it came out as a series of barks. To her delight, he laughed and turned as well. They wrestled around for a moment, playing and tumbling like they used to as little children. It was such a free feeling and different from being a bat. As a bat, the world was so small. She could climb to the highest heights and listen to the leaves rustle in the wind and the insects chirping from afar.
The wolf let her see things from a different point of view. While everything was monochrome, the world was a much bigger place. Smells took on an instinctual meaning as well as an intellectual one. For instance, someone smelled absolutely wonderful but not like food. She wondered who it was that could smell this amazing. It wasn’t Aiden. He smelled of pack and brother instead of his usual pumpkin juice. This was different, handsome, sexy, mate-worthy. Wait, what?
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
“Now see,” Zandra said, pointing to Serena. She’d shifted back earlier to watch Aiden instruct. “Not hard at all.”
Jonah blinked in amazement. “She was a bat! She’s got two forms.”
“She’s a walker,” Zandra said. “It’s not that surprising. Vampire blood does crazy things to a person.”
Jonah nodded absentmindedly. “Still, that would be cool.”
“Well, get one down first,” Zandra chuckled.
He nodded and looked over towards his girlfriend. She was gazing lovingly at Aiden, a soft smile on her face. When Aiden shifted into a jet black wolf, her eyes got a little brighter. When he started rolling around on the ground with Serena, she positively beamed. He knew then that they were over. She’d never once looked at him that way and truth be told; he hadn’t looked that way at her either. Serena was right. They had a bond…but it wasn’t the right one for a relationship beyond friends.
“Zandra,” he called softly, snapping her out of her wolf watching.
“Hmmm?”
“I figure we should get this out of the way before I turn. I’ve heard… things… about letting your animal take over.”
“Like?”
“Like following your instincts…especially the one to mate.”
She paled, trembling slightly. “I… I’d rather not.”
“Easy,” he said, taking her into his arms.
It was a protective move, one he’d perfected in the dungeons. This was why they couldn’t be lovers. He couldn’t stop thinking over her as that broken girl he’d seen. It would be better this way. Aiden would be good for her. He just hoped he wouldn’t have to kill the bastard because he would if Aiden hurt her. Somehow, he didn’t think he would.
“I’m not saying I want to mate,” he continued. “Quite the opposite really.”
“What?”
He pulled back to look her in the eye. “We’re really not right for each other, are we?”
She shrugged. “I don’t know. I feel…close to you.”
“I know. I feel the same. But it isn’t the same is it? It’s not butterflies and firecrackers and dating and stuff.”
She lowered her eyes. “Not really.”
He was having none of that. He lifted her chin to look into her eyes. “We’ll always love each other… but as friends. I’d die for you Zandra, but I can’t move past what happened to create a life with you after all this. Do you… do you understand?”
She smiled brightly and kissed his cheek. “Perfectly. Thanks…for that. I hate to change the subject, especially since we’ve finally started talking to and not at each other, but we really need to work on your shifting.”
He grinned. “Sure. What do I do?”
“Get angry,” she said. “Shouldn’t be hard.”
He snorted. “No. I’m always angry.”
“I think that helps. Just…just concentrate on that anger. Let it consume you. Think about revenge and just… lunge and let your instincts take over. You’ll feel really funny and it’ll probably scare you but let it happen. Think about being wolf and your senses and running free.”
Jonah nodded and closed his eyes to concentrate. Hmmm. Think about his senses. Well, he had noticed that his hearing was a bit sharper than it normally was. Things smelled stronger now. For example, Zandra smelled heavily of vanilla. He liked the scent very much but it was almost overpowering sometimes. He didn’t say anything though because he knew she didn’t like perfumes. It had to be one hell of a body wash though.
He was getting off topic. Senses and being free. Free. How cool would it be, to run in the forest on four legs and feel the dirt between his paws? He could mark trees and scare little woodland creatures and dig holes and take naps during the day. Okay, so it was a little cheesy but he liked the sound of it. He had his senses down.
Anger. That wouldn’t take anything at all to accomplish. To face down the boys who happily followed the mad men who’d taken him and Timmy and show no emotion was a true test of his strength. His number one go to was insults and posturing when he felt threatened. It was his dad’s way, what he’d been taught his whole life and now he was being told that it made him look like a threatened weakling. He hated that. He just wished he could rip Gregory limb from limb. He’d lured his precious Zandra away from her home and taken her to be tortured like all the rest. Oh, if he could just sink his teeth into his middle! There it was, the strange sensation that his bones weren’t were they should be. It was frightening.
“Let it happen Jonah!” Zandra yelled excitedly. “Go with it!”
And he did. He trusted Zandra with his life. She’d never steer him wrong. He knew that instinctively, just as he knew she didn’t smell like his mate. She smelled of pack and…and sister. Well, that was odd. She’d never smelled like sister before. He supposed it was a good thing they broke up before this because there was no way he could date her after this.
“You’re so handsome,” Zandra said softly.
He opened his eyes, startled to see her face in black and white in front of his eyes. She was crouched on the ground, her face a lesson in happiness. She was happy for him. Why? Wait. He was wolf! WOLF! He looked down, inspecting his paws. They looked large and powerful. He swatted at a blade of grass, happily yipping when hit crumbled beneath his blow.
Zandra giggled. “Yes, strong Jonah. Very good.”
He looked at her again. He wondered how he looked and tried to ask but it came out as almost a yodel. He snapped his jaws shut, embarrassed at the sounds. She laughed, but it wasn’t mockingly.
“I did that too. Let’s see, shaggy tan hair and hazel eyes. You’re a bit smaller than Aiden, but I figure that’s because he’s got a good three or four inches on you in human form too. He’s just that bloody tall! You’re very powerful looking though. It’s a nice form.”
He grinned at her and yipped in happiness when she changed as well. They frolicked for a few moments, stopping when they noticed the rest of their pack was having trouble. They went over to help, barking encouraging thoughts to them. Before he switched back, he caught the most enticing smell. Mate. He wanted her…whoever she was. He couldn’t have her at the moment. Helping his pack was priority, but he was going to find her after that.

Scorpius was wishing he had more of his grandfather’s traits. Super speed would come in handy right about now. He wasn’t sure he was going to make it across the grounds before they were attacked. His dad had dragged him down the hall, shouting instructions as he went. He didn’t catch them all and he wasn’t so sure he wanted to. Apparently, his uncle had come to the school bent on revenge. It was puzzling why they waited so long to attack. It would make more sense to have attacked right after his parents returned from Khrones but he wasn’t going to question it.
He had his orders. He dashed down the stairs, hoping James and Colton were keeping up with him. They had to get Albus, Jacob, Martin, Hugo, and Cecil and get to the main floor. There they would meet the girls and the adults. If they stuck together, they had a better chance. James was on his heels as he slid down the stairs to the fourth year dorms. He’d have to blast the wards apart if he couldn’t find one about to go in. Maybe Jacob would hear him yelling.
They skidded to a stop in front of the dorms. It struck him odd in that moment that the only protection on the door was a magic reading ward. Did Whorple want them to be sitting ducks? Well, that was a stupid question. Of course she did. Scorpius didn’t have a chance to yell. Albus was already screaming and banging on the door before he could come to a complete stop. It was yanked open mid-knock by a confused Jacob.
“What the bloody hell is going on?”
“Attack,” Scorpius said. “Grab Albus, Hugo, and Martin and get out here now.”
Jacob merely nodded and shot into the room, returning only a minute later with the three other boys in tow.
“Good,” Scorpius breathed. “Now we get Cecil and meet up.”
“What’s going on?” Martin cried as Colton pushed him towards the next flight of stairs to the third year dorms.
“A war,” James said gravely. “Or at least the start of one.”
“Over what?” Martin gasped.
“You,” Albus said softly. “All of us actually. It’s a war of ultimate power against Gods and men alike. Stick close mate.”
James and Scorpius shot each other a knowing look when they heard the tenderness in Albus’s voice. Their thoughts were confirmed when Martin grabbed his hand without another word and took off. It was both a happy and sad moment since the one thing Draco had stressed is that they were pretty sure that not everyone would survive this night. It weighed heavy on Scorpius’s mind but he dare not tell the younger ones that.
“Shit, how are we going to get Cecil?” James growled before yelling and banging on the door again.
“If that doesn’t work, I’m going to blast the bloody door in,” Scorpius snapped.
“The charm is only on the lock,” Jacob said softly. “Why not crawl under the door?”
Understanding dawned in Scorpius’s eyes and he immediately shifted into his form, a tiny black scorpion. His dad had laughed when he found it, not at the size of the form, but the actual form itself. Only a Malfoy would take the form of his own name. Now it was coming in handy. He scrambled past a few legs and transformed back behind a bookcase. Now that he was in, he cast a disillusion spell and ran through the room looking for Cecil. He spotted him in his room reading a Transfiguration text.
“Cecil,” he hissed. “It’s Scorpius. They’re here. We gotta go now!”
“Scorp?” Cecil asked, looking around. “Where are you?”
“Two feet away invisible. Come on. We’ve got to hurry. We still have to meet up with the girls.”
“Lily!” Cecil cried and dove for his wand, shoes, and robe.
They were out in seconds and continued down until they reached Melody’s classroom...but no one was there.

Rhapsody and Cadence rushed up all seven flights of stairs, thankful now that they’d had cardio training since practically birth. They just hoped that the new kids could keep up. Then again, the adrenaline boost from just knowing that they were about to be toast should be enough to keep them going.
“I’ll grab Vi, you grab Ana and we’ll go from there,” Rhapsody barked.
It only took them a minute or so to drag the terrified girls from the room. They hurriedly explained what was happening on the flight down to the sixth floor. Fortunately, both girls were easily able to keep up. Unfortunately, they both asked for their mates.
“Zach and Nate are at the ranch,” Rhapsody said quickly. “They were helping the others find their forms. We’ll have to fight without them.”
“Oh gods, how?” Violetta whimpered.
“You’re not a pushover,” Rhapsody snapped. “There is a reason your kind is revered. Just latch on to that and show them what you’re made of.”
“My kind aren’t though,” Anastasia said sadly.
“As horrible as it is,” Cadence said, “your father was one of the most feared Death Eaters there was. It might not be the thing you want to hear, but you have a part of him inside you. He was strong and fearless. Channel him and you’ll do fine.”
“But my mother-“
“Was on land,” Rhapsody snapped. “It would be like you trying to fight in the air. She didn’t have a chance. You do. Let’s go.”
“What the hell is going on?” Ara hissed as soon as their feet touched the sixth floor. “I heard you from upstairs.”
“It begins now,” Rhapsody said quietly.
Ara paled and darted back into her dorm, emerging with Lizzy. The girls hustled down the stairs to the fourth floor. They didn’t even need to yell. Emily and Rose were waiting, both pale and shaking but seemingly holding it together. Apparently Emily had heard their thoughts coming a mile away. They didn’t even stop, the girls naturally joining them on the trip down to get Lily.
“How in the hell do we do this?” Cadence panted. “The locks…and Lily can’t hear.”
“Hold on,” Emily said. “I might be able to reach her. I can hear her thoughts.”
The girls held their breath as Emily closed her eyes and pursed her lips in concentration. Two agonizing minutes later, Lily rushed out the door. She looked horrified but she had her wand and was clutching her necklace tightly. No words were spoken as they took off towards the teachers’ lounge where Melody was pleading with the teachers on their sides for help.
Only, when they arrived, the room was empty.

Hermione was desperately wishing she could turn into the lioness without terrifying everyone. She needed the speed. Draco was off to get Scorpius while she ran to the hospital wing to grab as many healing potions as she could stuff in her bag. Melody had breezed past her earlier, setting off to find some of their potential allies. It was horrible to ask so much of them without any guarantee of return but they were desperate. Losing one life was unacceptable. Two was unfathomable. Six… well, the world would surely stop turning.
She couldn’t think on that at the moment, though it was hard. Three were slated to die from their party here at the school. That was all but one of her children. Nausea welled up in her stomach but she fought it down. There was no reason to think like that, none at all. She yanked her trusty beaded bag from her pocket and placed a cushioning charm on it before swiping bottles off the shelves and into it. This bag had been with her since the beginning. Hopefully it would bring them some measure of luck. They’d need every ounce.
Draco had finished barking orders to Scorpius and had set off to find Alex, who was supposedly using Severus’s contraband portkey. He’d be arriving in Severus’s private quarters and meeting up from there. Draco’s thoughts were racing, something that Hermione was trying to keep separate from her own mind. In times like these, their bond was more of a curse than a blessing. Then again, she knew where he was at any given moment, like now.
Bag brimming with potions and salves, she sealed it and put it over her head and shoulder so it wouldn’t go flying off in battle. It would even stay put through a transformation, though her hummingbird form could hardly carry the blasted thing. She sped through the halls, coming to a dead stop when she saw a group at the end of the hall. It was probably her worst nightmare. MacNeeley, Sanders, and Gregory were all glaring at her, wands at the ready.
“Going somewhere Mrs. Malfoy?” Sanders asked smugly.
“Just out for a stroll,” she said as lightly as she could.
What she really wanted to do was strike them all down, but she needed to know where the Master was. Take out her servants and she’d probably go underground. She checked on Draco’s progress. He’d been unable to find Alex, only the portkey he arrived on and was about to start a search for him but abandoned it to come get her. They’d do well not to be separated again.
“I highly doubt that,” Sanders said.
Hermione shrugged. “It isn’t my fault you don’t believe what’s right before your eyes.”
Sanders’s eyes narrowed at the dig. He’d been the only one that didn’t believe her insane act and paid the price for speaking up. She’d jabbed at him on purpose. An angry mind was not a logical one. It stalled for time until Draco could reach her. She just hoped everyone else was faring okay.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Melody rushed into the teacher’s lounge. Lorna Smith, Cathy Douglas, and Chloe Cartwright were all drinking herbal tea and grading mountains of homework. She breathed a sigh of relief before sealing the room off from prying ears and spilling her tale. The three women listened in horror.
“You want us to fight with you?” Lorna asked, her face pale.
“Yes…and no.” Melody knelt on the floor, practically begging. “I’m asking you to protect the children. Look, they’ll aim for my kids but they aren’t going to care about innocents or casualties. Whorple’s detection wards failed only moments ago and I’m pretty sure she’s not conscious. They’ll have taken her out first. You have no idea what this gang is capable of.”
“And you say Gregory is the leader,” Cathy said with a frown.
“Only of the teens. Sanders is feeding him his orders but even Sanders isn’t the leader.”
“Who is it then?” Chloe asked.
“Moira,” Melody whispered.
“But she’s a squib!” Lorna gasped.
“She’s found some sort of talisman or necklace that she can harness and wield magic with. Look, we have no time. We’ve got to move!”
“I’ll call Sergei,” Chloe whispered. “He’s got an emergency portkey and a stash of sunlight potion. We’ll do what we can.”
“Thank you,” Melody gushed and watched as the woman raced out the door.
“I owe you and Mr. Malfoy a life debt,” Cathy said with a bowed head. “But I’d do it anyway. I know what they’re capable of.”
Melody nodded and hugged Cathy before she too fled.
“And that leaves me,” Lorna said gravely. “Melody, I’m not a young woman anymore.”
“I know,” Melody said softly. “And if I wasn’t absolutely sure that we’re going to have casualties tonight, I’d never ask this of you.”
“How can you be so sure?”
“Harmony has a feeling.”
Lorna nodded. “She always did have a knack for feeling things, incredibly gifted seer your sister is. I am so proud that she refused to go public with it.”
“Sorry to interrupt.”
Melody spun off the floor and almost launched herself at the intruder, only to collapse into Alex’s arms. He hugged her tightly and kissed her forehead before pulling her back.
“There is no sign of anyone at the Ranch but they’re ready.”
“They still need their forms!”
Alex grinned. “Turns out the moon is quite the motivator.”
“Thank Merlin,” Melody sighed and turned to Lorna.
The old Transfiguration teacher shook her head. “Not sure how you managed to dig this one up Melody, but he looks like a keeper. I’d no sooner allow my children to get hurt as I’d allow one of my best students to fight alone. I’ll be on the main floor, sealing in the first years if you have need of me.”
“You have no idea how much this means to me Lorna,” Melody said, trying not to cry.
Lorna smiled and patted her hand. “Always did have a soft heart you did. Run along now. Go save the day.” She walked briskly from the room.
“Alex, we’ve got to check on Whorple. I’m pretty sure she’s either unconscious, gone, or imperiused, but I need to know.”
“Let’s go then.”

“We’re waiting for your word Master,” Dormer purred as he knelt low in front of his Master’s throne. “They’re all sitting ducks, divided and clueless. They’ll never know what hit them.”
The Master’s lips turned up into a sickening grin. “Very good my pet. I am most pleased. If this works, we’ll have garnered the favor of Allecto, Tisiphone, and Megaera. With them on our side, we will be unstoppable.”
“Yes my Master.”
“Send word William. The battle begins.”
Rhapsody opened her eyes and gasped. “Oh Gods, we’ve got to find everyone!”
AN: I know, I know. CLIFFHANGER! Sorry guys but I just had to split this one up or I'd never get this week's update in time. I've chosen one person who won't be there by the end of the next chapter, but I'm having a hard time choosing a second one. It's hard to let go of your babies. :( As always, thanks to everyone who reviewed. Keep them coming and let me know how I'm doing (if you aren't too mad because my muse is on a killing spree). Until next time...love you guys!
