Epilogue

When Harry shifted in his sleep, curling up tighter to him, mumbling something unintelligible, Sirius opened his eyes. Giving his godson a pat on the back, though this didn’t seem like a nightmare, he smiled a bit. Harry didn’t have nightmares much anymore, thankfully. He thought it was just a dream of some sort. As Harry draped an arm over him, tucking his head under his chin, Sirius smiled. He could feel Lucius shift as well, draping an arm over the both of them. This was normal anymore. The three of them always seemed to touch when they slept.
As he lay there, he looked up at the ceiling, smiling. It felt so good. The bond was solidified and made them happy. Even better was their life, well his and Harry’s anyway, had improved vastly. And they loved it. Lucius, true to his word, spoiled them rotten, in plenty of ways. In return, they cherished him, something the man seemed to love.
It was about a year after the whole mess of getting out and hiding. Thankfully, they no longer had to hide, at least he and Harry didn’t. It still wasn’t revealed Lucius was their bondmate. That would come at some point, but it wasn’t the right time yet.
Much had changed in just the course of a year.
The Order was done for. Not only had their exit caused an almost irreparable rift, but what Albus planned for was finally revealed to everyone.
Not long after they vanished, Albus found out he was dying from one of those diseases older wizards caught. It was rare, but it happened and there was no cure of it. Since his time was limited, he was pushing for all he could to carry out his plans. As the Order was in complete chaos and plenty were fed up with so much because of the problems, there had been a huge blowup one night during a meeting. Since Snape was about done for with Albus and all he was trying, he had let it ‘slip’ what the real plans were for Harry. And that was the end of the Order.
Most had left, vowing not to help. Oh, there were a couple who stuck around, but even Minerva was done. With his help gone, Albus floundered. He kept on with Snape, but it didn’t help since Snape just spun him in circles. Last month, the aging Headmaster passed away in his sleep. While most of the world wouldn’t know what he had planned for, the right people did. Sirius found he was a tad relieved he was gone. The same with Harry. While they were plenty protected, it was a relief to know the greatest danger to them was finally gone. Sure, the thought should bother him, but it didn’t much honestly.
After Albus’ death, several from the Order formed a new one to try to keep up the fight, but it was going nowhere as they didn’t have the organizational skills or contacts to end up effective. While they were trying, it wasn’t anything to worry about. The Weasleys weren’t part of it, nor was Snape and others who could actually do something. Arthur told them it would die out soon enough then they wouldn’t have to worry. Sirius agreed, though they would keep an eye out.
Once Albus was gone, he and Harry had come out of hiding. Though some tried to draw them back in, the two of them made it clear they wouldn’t have any part of it. Unlike with Albus, they didn’t push. Minerva was in charge of this version and she didn’t try. Sirius thought it was guilt over so much of what she said. The only thing she imparted to him in a letter was if they needed help, to contact her and they would do all they could. He hadn’t answered her.
Tom was still doing what he could to change so much. Plenty were in place in the Ministry at his behest trying. Laws, the kind which did help, were being passed and other bits changed. As they were the right sort, it was good. While Tom wasn’t the creature from the last war, he was hiding and probably would for the rest of his life. The same with those he had broken out of Azkaban. Well, those who were left. A few were gone. Bella and her husband were dead, dying at the hands of some Hitwizards who managed to find them one day. Others had left the country. Most, though, were still here and helping Tom. While he and Harry were still wary of them, they were coping. Like Tom promised, they didn’t try anything stupid and protected them. If it kept on like it was, it would be fine.
For the most part, life went on. Hermione, Ron, Draco and the others went back to school. Narcissa and Lucius were still keeping up the appearance that they were together. Snape had quit teaching, though. Instead, he opened his own brewing business. Though he didn’t have much contact with the man, Sirius thought he seemed happier. He and Harry were adjusting to their new life. Harry was being taught by them and Tom, loving his career path. It was good.
As the world moved on like it always does, the three of them continued to build a life together. There were a few rough patches once they began to settle, but they worked through them. The last year had been spent getting to know each other. Well, that and he and Harry being spoiled by Lucius. While they loved all Lucius did and bought for them, they in turn gave plenty to Lucius in different ways, such as drawing him into their fun and adoring him. It was enough for all of them.
With a contented sigh, Sirius shut his eyes. They were still in the house they bought together, but not for much longer. While this would always be their official ‘home’, they were moving soon. Once Draco went back to school in a few weeks, they’d be dividing their time between here and the manor. Narcissa had taken on completely redoing the wing they had initially stayed in to make it theirs. Lucius had so much to do that it made sense to divide their time. He and Harry didn’t object as the manor was the height of luxury. They’d manage and adoreenjoy it, just like they did so much since this started.
Though careful not to disturb the two, Sirius rolled on his side facing Harry, one arm slipped under his godson, he then draped the other over both Harry and Lucius. Giving them a squeeze, he shut his eyes with a contented sigh. This—it was the biggest of the changes. And the one he loved most. Both he and Harry had always had hard lives. So much had gone on that they hadn’t known true happiness other than for short times in school. Now they were happy, truly happy. The three of them were happy. And it was worth all the suffering that came before. As he said at one point, the three of them together made a great team for so much. And they still did. It also made all three of them happy. The love was there and they were content. That was well worth so much which went on.
With a contented sigh, Sirius smiled then began to drift off. Life was good, finally.
