"As you all have come to realize, we are a week away from Christmas break"
A loud eruption of claps and cheering rose in the Great Hall.
"Yes, yes you are all excited" Dumbledore said smiling. "As I talked about before, the ball is being held next week on Friday. Those of you who are wishing to attend, please write your name down on the sign up sheet that we have posted on the wall in the back of the Great Hall so we know how many students to expect. Since today is Saturday, I have allotted everyone the day to go to Hogsmeade and pick out whatever dress clothes that you may require. Remember that there is still a dress code, and those who do not follow it based off of school policy will be denied entry. The theme is Winter Wonderland, so I do hope you all enjoy yourselves, and me along with the rest of the teachers, are looking forward to seeing what outfits you all choose to wear."
The hall erupted into applause.
"Feel free to leave for Hogsmeade whenever you wish, but, everyone must be back for dinner."
Dumbledore sat down and the students started talking amongst themselves again.
"Hermione, do you want to go to Hogsmeade and get our dresses?" Ginny asked excitedly.
"Do I even have a choice?" Hermione asked smiling.
"Not really. I was just trying to be polite."
"How nice of you" Hermione said sarcastically.
Ginny smirked and dug into her food.
"Slow down Gin!" Hermione exclaimed.
"I don't have time to slow down Hermione, we have dresses to find! And I don't want to be stuck in anything ugly"
"We both know you will look good in whatever dress you end up in.."
"Still, I want us both to look amazing!" Ginny exclaimed.
Hermione smiled and shook her head at her friend.
Ginny finished the last bit of her food and threw her fork down. It clanked loudly onto her plate, and her face went red in embarrassment.
"I guess that's my cue as to you're done and it's time to leave?" Hermione asked smiling.
"Sorry." Ginny said sheepishly.
Hermione stood up and looked over at Harry "Alright, looks like I am going shopping for dresses now. Would you like to come with us to Hogsmeade?"
"Spend the whole day with two girls as they take forever trying on every single dress? I think I'll pass" Harry said with a wink.
"Your loss" Ginny said as she wrapped her arm through Hermione's.
"Harry, you sure you don't want to come? What are you going to do?" Hermione asked softly as she looked over at Ron.
Harry caught her look and shrugged his shoulders. "I'll find something to do. I'll probably go and practice for Quidditch on the field. Trust me Hermione, I'll be fine. Go and have fun."
"Okay. But, you know where to find us if you need us"
"Thanks Hermione"
"Hermione lets go! Enough chattering with Harry. He wants to stay, so lets gooooooo!" Ginny said impatiently as she pulled on Hermione's arm.
"Alright lets go" Hermione said shaking her head laughing.
She turned around and waved back at Harry as Ginny dragged her out of the Great Hall. Harry returned her wave with a genuine smile.
As soon as they got to Hogsmeade, Ginny started pulling Hermione down the street determinedly.
"Gin, where are we going?" Hermione asked confused. "The dress shops are all back that way."
"The majority of them, yes. I found this shop by mistake a few years back, and it's honestly amazing. Nobody else ever goes here because it's not well known, and it's appearance isn't exactly inviting. But their stuff is incredible. Trust me Hermione."
As soon as the place came into view, Hermione knew why people steered away from it. It looked like a run down house. The only thing showing that the place was actually functional was a flashing open sign that was in the window. Had Ginny not pointed this place out, Hermione herself would have continued to walk by it without a second glance.
They walked inside, and Hermione looked around her in awe. The place was gorgeous on the inside, something she had not been expecting.
The lady at the front desk looked up and smiled at them and walked over.
"Ms. Weasley, it's nice to see you once again"
"Hello Elaine, it is nice to see you also."
"Now, who do we have here?" Elaine asked glancing over at Hermione.
"This is my best friend Hermione. We're looking for dresses for our school ball. It is a Winter Wonderland theme." Ginny stated.
"How exciting! Well, you ladies came to the right store. Nobody else from your school has been here so you will both have one of a kind dresses. I guarantee both of you will walk out of this store with dresses that accent your features, and that you will look absolutely stunning in"
Ginny looked at Hermione and smiled.
"Now, let's get started."
Hermione and Ginny were getting dresses thrown at them left right and centre. Hermione had to admit, that she was actually having a good time. The dresses were gorgeous, she just hadn't found one that she felt suit her yet. Normally, she would have given up, but the atmosphere with Ginny and Elaine was excitement and determination, and Hermione felt herself drawn in.
The next dress that Elaine passed to Hermione was short. Hermione was debating on whether or not to even put it on. She stood there staring at it.
"Hermione, put on that dress and walk out here. I want to see it on you!" Elaine shouted.
Hermione let out a sigh and slipped the dress on. She looked up and stared at herself in the mirror. She couldn't believe the girl that she was looking at was her.
The dress she had on was strapless, silver in colour. It came down to about mid-thigh, and had a small slit up the right side. When she twisted, the dress sparkled silver in the light. She stared at herself again. She had never worn something so revealing before in her life. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. She had curves in all of the right places, something that she hadn't really paid attention to until now because they were accentuated nicely. Her legs looked long and luscious in the dress, and her hair which was down, looked shiny.
"Hermione! What's taking you so long? We need to walk out and show each other our dresses remember? Until we find the right ones?" Ginny shouted from the change room beside her.
"Alright, alright, I'm coming" Hermione said opening the curtain and walking out.
Ginny walked out at the same time as her and stopped in her tracks.
Hermione turned and looked at her. "What?" she asked self-consciously.
"Hermione, you look amazing!" Ginny squealed excitedly.
Hermione looked down at herself. "Are you sure? I feel like it's a little much.."
Elaine walked around the corner. "Oh my goodness! That is the dress for you!"
Hermione felt herself blushing. "Are you guys sure? I'm showing off an awful lot of skin.."
"Malfoy won't be able to take his eyes, or hands off of you" Ginny said with a wink.
Hermione felt herself blush even more.
"Malfoy.. I know that name" Elaine said thinking.
"Yeah, and probably not for the right reasons" Ginny stated.
Elaine looked at her questionably.
"Malfoy has sort of been Hermione's worst enemy the past six years, and now they kind of have the hot's for one another and are dating."
"Sounds dreamy" Elaine said smiling.
"Hermione, you need to get that dress. Actually, I am not going to let you out of here without buying the dress, that's how much I love it on you. It shows a different side of you, a more confident, yet sexy woman that you've been hiding these past years. You have a rocking body, why not take the opportunity to flaunt it and show what you've got. It's our last dance at this school, and our last year. Why not go out looking like a smokeshow!"
Hermione smiled and stood up straight. "You know what, I am going to buy this dress. Like you said, I have never worn something like this before, and I feel like doing something different, because I am different."
"That's the spirit!" Elaine said.
Hermione went back into the dressing room and took it off, a smile on her face. She put hung it up and left it hanging in the room. She walked out of the dressing room and sat down on one of the leather chairs that was available.
"Alright Ginny, now it's time we find you a dress!" Hermione said excitedly.
Ginny tried on a few more dresses, and Hermione could tell that she was losing her hopes in finding one. Hermione saw something shiny catch her eye, and she stood up and walked towards it. She went through the rack, and pulled out the dress that had caught her eye. As soon as she had a good look at it, she knew this was the dress for Ginny. It was stunning, and totally something that she could see Ginny in and pulling off.
She walked towards the dressing room, and pulled the curtain open.
"Hey!" Ginny exclaimed.
Hermione handed her the dress and said, "Try this on"
Ginny looked down at it and her mouth opened in awe. "Where did you find this?"
"It just happened to catch my eye, not put the damn thing on before I put it on for you"
Hermione walked out of the dressing room and sat back down in her seat.
Ginny came walking out of the dressing room a few minutes later in the dress that she had handed her.
The dress was royal blue and was heart shaped strapless. Along the top of the heart shape was silver jewels, which were sparkling as the light hit them. There were more jewels on the right side of the dress on her hip, which accented the rest of the jewels. There was a long slit up the front of the dress that went right up to her right knee, which became exposed as she walked.
Hermione's face lit up.
"What do you think?" Ginny asked spinning around, giving Hermione a show of the dress.
"Gin, that's the dress. I knew it as soon as I saw it. It looks absolutely incredible on you. And it goes so well with your hair colour, and your complexion. Blaise is going to drool the minute he sees you."
Ginny looked down and blushed.
Elaine clapped her hands excitedly when she spotted Ginny. "Ms. Weasley, that dress looks astonishing on you."
Ginny looked up at Hermione and smiled before she went back into the change room.
When she came back out, she was back in her school clothes with the dress in her arm.
Hermione went back into her change room and grabbed her dress, and the two of them made their way to the counter to pay.
Ginny spotted some heels as they were walking by. She grabbed a pair of silver and emerald green stilettos and handed them to Hermione. "These will look exceptional with you dress, and the green gives it some colour. You should buy those earrings" Ginny said pointing over at the jewelry counter "And the shoes and earrings would match. Plus, you need some form of jewelry to accent your dress."
Hermione grabbed Ginny a necklace which was silver, with a royal blue pendant, and a pair of silver heels.
The two girls purchased all of their new items and left the story smiling.
"I am so excited for this ball now" Ginny stated.
"Gin, you've been excited the entire time, not just now!" Hermione said laughing.
"True, but now I'm even more excited because I know we are both going to look amazing!" Ginny squealed happily.
"You always look amazing" a masculine voice said from behind them.
Ginny spun around and came face to face with Blaise.
She felt the blush rise to her face upon seeing him.
"And you're cute when you blush" Blaise said smirking.
"Shut up Zabini" Ginny said embarrassed.
"Successful shopping day I assume?" Blaise asked.
"Of course" Ginny stated.
"May I see?" Blaise asked.
"No!" Ginny exclaimed. "You're not allowed to see until the day of the dance."
"Girls and their superstitions.."
"I assure you it will be worth the wait" Hermione said smiling.
Blaise eyed Ginny up and down and saidt, "I'm sure it will."
"What are you doing here?" Ginny asked curiously.
"Exploring, wandering the town, you know, nothing too exciting."
"By yourself?" Ginny asked skeptically.
"Me myself and I make the best company" Blaise stated.
"Always so cocky"
"And for good reason, I mean, look at me" Blaise said stretching out his arms and flexing.
"Get over yourself" Ginny said rolling her eyes.
"You know you love it" Blaise said with a wink.
"Ugh, alright, I'm out of here before you guys start ripping each others clothes off in public" Hermione said.
Ginny stood up on her tip toes and placed a sweet, gentle kiss on Blaise's lips. "I'll see you later."
"Damn right you will" Blaise said to her retreating figure.
"You didn't have to come with me you know" Hermione said.
"It's girls day, guys can wait" Ginny said.
"I know, but I wouldn't have been mad if you had decided to hang out with Blaise."
"I know you wouldn't have Hermione. But, I also didn't want to walk around town with my dress and such, I wanna make sure I get it all home before Blaise tries to sneak a peek, or one of the other girls tries to figure out what we bought and where we got it from."
"You take this whole dress thing seriously."
"Of course I do. I don't want some other girl coming to the ball wearing the same dress, or one similar to mine."
"True enough."
Hermione and Ginny jumped into the nearest carriage. They both stopped talking once they realized who else was sharing it with them.
Ron looked over at them and then looked away quickly.
Ginny looked at Hermione and rolled her eyes.
"Anyways, as I was saying, Malfoy is not going to be able to take his eyes off of you once he sees you in that dress" Ginny said looking at Hermione, a smirk edged on her face.
"Do you seriously need to talk about that right now?" Ron asked turning to look at them.
"Oh, sorry Ron, I didn't see you there" Ginny said turning to look at her brother.
"Bullshit" Ron said angrily.
"Seriously how long are you going to be stubborn arse?" Ginny asked.
"For as long as you both continue to date Slytherins" Ron said spitting out the last word.
"Funny that you have a problem with it and Harry, who's the one who actually had most of the problems with them, does not. Shows the difference in maturity levels between the both of you. Also shows who actually cares more about their friends happiness then their own."
Ron glared at both of them before turning his attention elsewhere.
"Nothing to say? Oh, that's because you know I'm right." Ginny stated.
Ron's jaw tightened, but he didn't say anything.
"Grow up Ron, and apologize to your friends before it's too late. If you keep this attitude up, soon you're going to have no one. You guys graduate soon; do you really think Seamus is going to keep in touch with you once you all leave school? And Hermione and Harry are going to be around the Burrow because they're my friends also, so what, you want to spend the rest of your life miserable and alone all because you're jealous because Hermione is actually happy with someone. And you're going to let your friendship with Harry suffer also because he is actually happy for Hermione and decided to put his differences with Malfoy aside for her sake? You're my brother and I love you, but sometimes you're too damn thickheaded and hold onto grudges too much. The school dance is in a week, and I would like for us all to go together like we always do, which I am sure Hermione and Harry feel the same way. So figure out what's more important and come to a decision by that time."
The carriage pulled up to Hogwarts and Hermione and Ginny jumped out, without waiting for a response from Ron.
"Wow Gin, that was really insightful" Hermione said.
"Well, I've had enough of him. He's being an idiot. He shouldn't even be fighting with you and Harry in the first place. I get that he's not happy that you're dating Malfoy, but so what, get over it. If he's who makes you happy then that's all that should matter to him. He's being selfish and only thinking about himself, and he needs to know it."
"Yeah.."
"Don't worry about it Hermione. And don't let him dampen your mood. We just found some amazing dresses that we get to wear to the ball! We are going to be dropping jaws and popping boys eyes!"
Hermione smiled and said "You're right, I am not going to let Ron ruin today for me. We had a great day, a successful one at that, and we deserve to be happy."
"Exactly!"
"Now, let's go and put these dresses away and go and find Harry, I'm sure we've left him alone for long enough."
"Can I put my dress and things in your room?" Ginny asked.
"Sure" Hermione said.
"Well, I was just thinking that it would be easier because then we can get dressed in your room, considering yours is bigger anyways and then I won't have to fight over a mirror with all the other girls who are going to be getting ready in the Gryffindor bathrooms. And that way we can get ready together! It's more fun that way anyways. And I can help you with your hair and makeup!"
Hermione smiled and shook her head laughing. "You don't have to ask or give me an explanation. I assumed we were going to get ready anyways."
"Oh, okay sweet."
Hermione and Ginny made their way to the Head's Dorm and dropped of their stuff, and then headed towards the Gryffindor common room to search for Harry.
When they entered the Gryffindor common room, it was empty.
Hermione looked at Ginny and said "My other guess as to where he could be is the Quidditch pitch, he did say he might go and practice so lets head out there"
"Okay."
When Hermione and Ginny got to the Quidditch pitch they were a little shocked to say the least.
"I guess Harry hasn't been alone after all.." Ginny stated.
Hermione looked up at the pitch and saw two figures flying around together, practicing. Red and gold robes and silver and green were flying around in the wind.
Harry looked down and spotted them, and made his way down towards them. He landed on the ground in front of them, and a few seconds later Draco landed beside him.
"Well I'll be damned" Ginny stated.
"Hello to you too Weaselette"
"Have you two been out here practicing with one another the entire time?" Hermione asked.
"Yeah" Harry stated.
"How did that happen?" Ginny asked interested.
"Well, I was making my way to the field and I saw Malfoy laying under a tree so I asked him if he wanted to join me on the Quidditch pitch."
"And you accepted?" Ginny asked amazed.
"Perceptive one, aren't we" Draco stated.
"Sorry, I'm just not used to seeing the two of you getting along, or even playing nicely for that matter. Cut a girl some slack" Ginny stated.
Draco smirked.
"Practicing with someone is a lot better than practicing alone" Harry said.
"Oh Harry, I didn't mean there was anything wrong with it! I was just shocked was all. I think it's awesome that you two are getting along. I just wish Ron wouldn't be such a git about the entire thing."
Hermione saw Harry's face soften and Draco's darken at the mention of Ron's name.
"Honestly, don't worry about him, he will come around. He's just stubborn" Hermione said.
"I'd prefer if he didn't come around, he's an idiot and I don't know how you guys have been able to put up with him for so long" Draco drawled.
"Ron's a good guy, but like Hermione said, he can be stubborn, and when he has his mind made up about something, it's nearly impossible to change. And Malfoy, I don't know how you can talk. I do not know how you could have hung out with Crabbe and Goyle for as many years as you did." Harry said.
"Touché"
"Okay, so we all have friends who are idiots, we get it. Now before we start messing up this lovely friendship between us all, lets all go to the Great Hall for dinner." Ginny said.
Harry's stomach growled. "I'm in."
"I'm in too. Kicking Potter's ass this entire time has made me hungry" Draco said cockily as he strode forward, swaying his Quidditch robes behind me.
Harry started after him and said "Oh, in your dreams Malfoy."
Hermione and Ginny followed behind the two boys, who were a few feet ahead of them.
Ginny looked over at Hermione and shrugged her shoulders and said "boys."
