Chapter 36
Beta'd by the amazing Tenchi. You're the best, woman, and thank you!
Just a reminder of what's on my profile; reviews complaining or whinging about the lack 'o sex in stories will get deleted. If you want a smut-filled romp, you need to find another story to read.
Tossing a copy of The British Oracle down on the table Harry was seated at in the library, going over the list of charms on Padfoot, Lucius gave an amused snort at what was in it. Shaking his head, smirk growing, he said, “Tell your Godfather, from me, that he and Lupin are masterful at stirring the pot, Harry. That was ingenious!”
Grinning, looking up at Lucius, he said, “I will. That was bloody brilliant, that's for sure!”“It was,” Severus said, looking at the cover of the weekly and the photo of the woman that found some of Harry's things. “Lavender Brown's mother is as big of a gossip as her daughter is. They had to know that going in. To plant evidence anywhere near where they would find it was masterful. They had to know that she would want to talk about it publicly. To anyone that would listen. Not only that, Lavender is someone that knows Harry. Absolutely masterful.”Chuckling and shaking his head, Harry said, “Somehow I'm not surprised that her mother is that way. Lavender had to get it from somewhere.” Changing topics, he asked, “What do you think that's going to set off?” Shifting around with a groan, he leaned back against the chair behind him and stretched out his legs.“While I'm sure that account is embellished to a degree, it has to have enough facts in it that its apt to set off all kinds of things. Especially since it was done around someone that knows you. I don't think Fudge can deny it, though he may try. Either that or he's just going to ignore it. That he may do. However, both other sides of this nightmare won't. They are going to take it for just what it is and it's going to turn up the heat, on many things when it comes to this. It can only help matters,” Lucius schooled, looking smug. “Just what many areas need.”“I think, maybe, though I'm not as adept as Lucius in many matters, this may be the one event that breaks it all loose in the Prophet and Ministry,” Severus said thoughtfully, rubbing his chin,“It may,” Lucius confirmed with a nod. “What was already there was enough to get many leaning in that direction, including other papers. This—it is over the top enough that the Prophet isn't apt to ignore it, despite their toeing the Ministry line. No, the story is too good. If other papers are running with the theory expounded in this, that it's a Death Eater involved disappearance, it's too juicy for them to not pick it up. People will be shifting papers to read if they don't do something. If the Prophet goes with it, Fudge is apt to backtrack slightly and start leaning in that direction enough to back that theory. However, it remains to be seen what he's going to say about Pettigrew. We know there are warrants for our three patsies. Though that hasn't been made public yet. It will, no doubt, as someone is going to pick that up and we know it. They also haven't said much about the attack on Severus' house. It's only been mentioned in a small article. Someone, somewhere, is going to pick that up. When they do, they are going to run with it.” Sighing, he shook his head then added, “If I were still in the game, I could drop hints to a few reporters I know to put them on the right track. There are many out there that would run far and fast with such a story and ignore the Ministry and Prophet. I just don't know how to go about that without revealing myself.”Thinking that over, brow drawn down, Severus said, distractedly, “That report Black mentioned last night—Harry, can you see if he has a copy of it? If he does, we might be able to move it in the direction of someone Lucius knows. Not revealing who did it, of course, but just getting something that explosive into the right hands might be all it takes.”“I'll see what he says when I talk to him today,” Harry told him with a firm nod.“If he does, I know who to direct him to. They won't reveal who they are, of course, but I can give them a few buzz words to let the man know it should be taken seriously and comes from a trusted source. He will take it and run with it like a hungry dragon is nipping at his heels,” Lucius smirked, shifting in his chair. “And the Ministry won't think to take him on. His reputation is good enough that if he publishes it, people will listen.”“Let me see what Sirius says,” Harry told him. “He might have plenty of other things to pass along about me as well. It can only help.”“With all they've seen, they should,” Severus said, pleased. “See what he says then we'll go from there.”“Will do,” Harry nodded firmly. Brow furrowing, he asked, quietly, “What's going to happen when the three of us turn back up and it's obvious that Wormtail had nothing to do with it? I mean, they are red herrings. I don't want either of you getting in trouble for it.”Snorting softly, Lucius smirked bigger, “Nothing to worry about, Harry. Our patsies are not innocent men. They will disavow having anything to do with this end of the mess, of course, something they won't be convicted of because we've only given them circumstantial evidence. However, there is plenty they can be convicted of and probably will be to save their own skins from the Dark Lord. In the end, the red herrings will just be a mystery. That's all. Black and Lupin are good enough that nothing can be traced back to them. Plus, they are items that set off the investigation in the right direction. I doubt it's going to be looked at too closely. We did nothing illegal with it. They are yours and we have your consent to do it, that's all.”“The only thing I'm worried about is the kidnapping,” Severus said honestly. Shaking his head, he added, “That we can be convicted of, despite how things changed. The DMLE will pull out something to do that, saying Harry has Stockholm Syndrome or something. Even if Harry says we are protecting him, and proves it, we have issues with that when it comes up. What we set up with the burning of the house Harry had no hand in. He knew nothing of what we were planning when we took him.”“That is a quandary,” Lucius sighed, looking down. “At the moment, we won't worry about it. As things press on towards it looking like this mess is ending, we will. Never fear, we'll come up with something so no charges will come our way.”“I'll do what I can to make sure,” Harry said firmly.“Let's see where this goes before we worry about that. For now, we need not concern ourselves with it,” Lucius told them both firmly. “Circumstances change greatly in times of war. Let's just table that until it looks like this mess is winding down.” Changing topics, though that was a worrisome one, he asked Harry, “Are you overly stressed about tomorrow?” That was the day they were going to remove the Horcrux.Blowing out a breath, looking down, Harry said, tone distracted, “Yes and no. I'm worried about it, of course, but I trust the both of you. You didn't have a problem with Nagini's, so this shouldn't be an issue either. It's just what it is and what can come of it is all. Like anything else that's surgical or whatever, there is some serious nervousness going on with me.”“We'll make sure everything goes fine,” Severus assured him. “We, too, have some apprehension on it, as would be expected. We'll manage, though. It's not difficult to do.”“It's just the idea,” Harry admitted with a shrug. “I trust the lot of you, so that's not it.” Looking between the two, he asked, grinning a little, “Whatever you transfer it into—when you're done getting rid of it, can I have whatever it is to keep? I mean, it won't be dangerous. I just want to keep it.”“We can easily do that,” Lucius said with a nod. “We'll put it in a sealed protected jar for you. However, may I ask why you want it?”“Not sure there,” Harry admitted with a sheepish grin. “I think, maybe, proof that it's all 'real', if you get what I mean. Somewhere down the line we might need it. I mean, there'll be residue of what was in it when you're done, like that diary. We might need that when this mess ends.”“I never thought about that,” Severus admitted, looking at Lucius. “We'll give it to you. I believe we still have the small ornament we put Nagini's in because we wanted to test it for some areas. That's something we need to keep as well, I think.”“We will,” Lucius said firmly. “I have somewhere to lock both up where they're safe.” Quietly, he said, “It's not something we thought of, Harry, but it's a great suggestion.”Nodding, Harry sighed, “I have to take some kind of potions before bed tonight and in the morning?” Seeing Severus nod, he asked, “What are those for?”“Just to relax you, nothing more,” Severus assured him. “They'll help what we're using work better. It's nothing to be concerned about, I assure you. The more relaxed you are, the easier this is going to go.”Understanding, Harry nodded, “Sirius and Remus will be here?”“We're sending an elf for them before dawn. They'll stay in the room while we do the spell,” Lucius explained. “I believe Black can hold your hand through the whole thing without issue. That would be something normal to do, for comforts sake. You won't feel anything or be aware, but it'll be there.”“I think—yeah, that's something I want,” Harry sighed, looking down.“Completely understandable,” Severus assured him. “This is an easy spell to do, but you're well aware of the consequences when it comes to mistakes. Apprehension is warranted on the topic. If Black holding your hand through it helps you, we take no issue.”Trying to lighten the mood because the more he thought about it, the more uptight he got, Harry grinned, “My stomach is going to seriously protest the no eating part tonight.”Snorting, completely amused, Lucius said, “So very true! It's going to make it known as well. It's rather demanding at this juncture.”Smirking, Severus said, “We'll ensure that when you wake up, one of the first things offered is food.”Snickering, Harry told him, “You probably better or you're going to end up deaf from the rumblings of it.” Changing topics again, he began to ask about some of the charms on the stuffed dog. They were going to start working on that the following week, so he wanted to understand some of it better before they did.
“Oh, we have plenty of what we passed along, Harry,” Sirius grinned at his godson in the mirror. “We made damned sure to keep copies of some of it, like that last bit. Yeah, if Lucius knows a way to pass that along to someone, tell him to get with us tomorrow and we'll manage. If we can set everything ablaze quicker, we're all for that. After all, the quicker this starts, the faster it's going to end.”
“I'll make sure to tell him,” Harry said with a firm nod. Grinning, he added, “They love who you dropped that last bit around. It was great!”“That was Remus,” Sirius admitted, grinning bigger. “I just told him to do it around who might talk. He picked a perfect one! He's sneaky that way. It was great though! He's going to be smug over that for a long time.”“He has a right to be,” Harry snickered, shaking his head. They had already gone through the bit about the following day and were pressing on to other things. “I'll make sure Lucius knows and he can work with you from there.” Seeing Sirius nod, Harry looked down at the bed. He wanted to go into another topic but it was highly personal. Looking at Kaliya, who was stretched out on the bed the best he could, relaxing, he then sighed. Quietly, he said, “There's something personal I want to talk about as I don't understand it, but it can go no further, alright?” Looking between the two, he waited.“I won't say a word, Harry,” Kaliya assured him, slithering over then draping around him. “Never fear, it's a secret safe with me.”“Of course not. It stays between us,” Sirius assured him with a firm nod. Quietly, he then asked, “What's it about, if I can ask?”“Hormones and an overload of them,” Harry said with a snort, shaking his head. “It's—I don't even know where to start.”Trying not to chuckle, Sirius said, “Let me guess; sex on the brain? All the damned time? Even the most innocuous things set it off?”“Oh yeah,” Harry said with a groan, shaking his head. “And I mean everything. It doesn't matter. I made a joke about a threesome in the shower with Kaliya and Nagini and you don't even want to know the visions it brought on. And it doesn't go away until--” trailing off, he said no more, hoping Sirius got what he was going for.“It's normal, Harry,” Sirius assured him. “I swear it is. At your age, many are going through that already. You just got slammed with all of it at once. It might be the level of someone that's considered an adult, but even in your early twenties, this is what it's like. Why do you think so many act the fool about the topic? It's nothing to worry about, you have my word. Give it some time and it'll level out. As you got the full dose at once, it's going to take time to get used to. Don't worry about it.”Nodding to let Sirius know he heard, Harry sighed, still looking down. After a couple of moments, he added, “It's more than that, though. It's some of what it's bringing up. I—bloody hell, it's hard to handle.”Not understanding that, Sirius asked, “What do you mean?”Reaching up and rubbing a now trembling hand over his face, Harry sighed, not sure what to say. After waiting a few moments and it looking like Harry wasn't going to answer, Sirius prodded, gently, “Talk to me, Harry. It goes no further and I very much doubt you're going to say anything that shocks or disgusts me. Just say it and we'll work with it from there.”“It's--” stopping, Harry blew out a breath then shook his head before pressing on, “well, what I'm thinking about most of the time. Like the main topic.”“And that is?” Sirius asked, keeping his tone soft.“Guys,” Harry mumbled, eyes shut, head hung down.Taking that in, Sirius nodded then pressed on, “Let me ask this—before the hormone overload, did you think about blokes that way? I know you had a crush on Cho for a while, but that's the only one I ever heard about. Did you think mostly about blokes or was it girls mostly. Or both?”Trembling harder, Harry wasn't sure what to say. He knew the answer, of course, but it coming out of his mouth would make it more 'real', for lack of a better term, and would mean he had to face it in a way he hadn't had to before.“Harry, talk to me. It's fine,” Sirius assured him. “Whatever you say isn't going to change anything between us. I promise.”“Cho was the exception,” Harry mumbled, not looking at the mirror. “Since I was young, I kinda'--well, it was guys I thought about. I thought that might change as I grew, but now—it's all guys.”“Doesn't matter,” Sirius told him with a firm shake of his head. “So you like blokes instead of birds, big deal. Harry, it's fine. I promise. It doesn't matter to most.”Sighing and slumping, Harry glanced at the mirror then said, quietly, “All my life I've heard it's wrong.”“Yeah, well, some people need to pull their heads out of their arses on the topic,” Sirius told him firmly. “It's fine. It doesn't matter to most. Muggle-borns have more of a problem with it than we do. Don't worry about it. It won't matter to anyone that is really close to you. If it does, they don't belong in your life.”Nodding, Harry sighed again. “It's just hard.”“I get that,” Sirius told him gently. “With no one talking to you about the basics as you were growing, it has to be a right bitch to deal with. Especially since you got it all at once. Adding this in, with what I know of how some view it, and it made it worse. Trust me, Harry; it doesn't matter. It won't change how anyone sees you, especially me.” Looking at his obviously uncomfortable godson, Sirius added as gently as he could, “I wondered if that wasn't the case for a while now.”Looking up, brow furrowed, Harry asked, “Why? I mean, did it show or something?”“No, not that,” Sirius told him with a shake of his head. “It was just you weren't interested in anything in that direction, other than Cho. Usually, with someone your age it starts to come. It didn't. That made me wonder if you weren't hiding what you were feeling for some. Now I get there was a problem because your growth was stunted, but I assume there were a few crushes you didn't mention on guys.”“There was,” Harry mumbled, looking away. “I just—no way I was saying anything.”“I get it completely,” Sirius told him firmly. Grinning just a little, he added, “I also thought that might be the case as you were just so completely oblivious to Ginny and her attempts to get something going with you.”Looking at the mirror, a bewildered expression on his face, Harry asked, “Ginny? She what?”“Oh, Harry, she has it bad for you,” Sirius grinned. “I think everyone but you and Ron see it. Ron I get, as he's a bit thick when it comes to that area, but you just didn't see it.”Thinking back over interactions with Ginny, Harry shook his head. “I didn't even notice. I mean, that's Ron's little sister. Definitely not interested in anything in that direction.”“I figured,” Sirius told him with a chuckle. “It's the same for plenty of other girls when it comes to you. You just didn't notice that they were trying. I understand that, maybe, part of it was just you didn't get what they were going for, but I'm sure this was part of it as well. It made me wonder.”“I never noticed,” Harry admitted with a shake of his head.“I bet you did a few guys that you thought were interested,” Sirius said softly.Flushing slightly, Harry nodded then muttered, “I did. I just didn't want to chance going there if I wasn't sure. With all that was going on, I didn't want that out there too.”“Completely understandable,” Sirius agreed with a nod. “It would have been a bitch if you had, what with all that went on and still is.” Face taking on a serious look, Sirius then said, firmly, “I love you no matter what and this changes nothing, Harry. The same with Remus and so many others in your life. It won't matter. Remember that.”Feeling better about the topic, Harry nodded, slumping slightly.“I want you to do me a favor when you feel you can. I get it if it won't be right away,” When Harry looked in the mirror and nodded, Sirius said, “Talk to Lucius. I promise it won't come out badly. And I'm sending you in that direction for a reason. We all knew in school that he liked both. He might be able to give you better advice than I can because I'm the bird type and this isn't my area. You trust him, Harry. Enough to let him protect you and to help remove what's in your scar. This won't make a damned bit of difference there to him.”Thinking that over, Harry said, softly, “Alright. It's just going to take time for me to do it. Right now—it's just too hard to deal with.”“I get it, trust me! It has to be. I can only imagine what it's like on your end. Just keep in mind that to those of us who are close to you that it won't matter,” Sirius assured him once more.Feeling much better on the topic, Harry nodded. Sighing, he was relieved.Wrapping more tightly around Harry, Kaliya rested his head on his young man's shoulder then said, “It matters not, Harry. To any of us.” He was pleased, though, that Harry was willing to talk it out with someone who was understanding. That was good.Reaching up to stroke Kaliya's head Harry smiled a little.“And I can damned well guarantee you that when you show back up, you're gonna be beating the guys off with a stick,” Sirius grinned. “You're a good-looking bloke and they're gonna notice. You'll probably have more than you can handle.”Sheepish look on his face, Harry just chuckled.“You are! Trust me! We just need to put some weight on you is all. As much as you're eating, though, I think you'll manage,” Sirius laughed.“Yeah, I'm starving most of the time,” Harry told him.“Perfectly normal too,” Sirius told him. “When I was your age, I ate all the damned time. Why do you think we figured out how to get into the kitchen at Hogwarts? I wasn't the only one either! Your dad and Remus were the same way. Hell, we practically camped in there for a time.”“I can understand why. I've thought about that several times. The elves are good about it, though.” Harry laughed.“Like I've said; you're going to eat Lucius out of house and home,” Sirius grinned. “I'm also going to say, because of your size, practice as a Beater. You'll be damned good at it, Harry. That'll help give you some muscle development. It'll do you good. And, if you keep it up and work with it, I bet a bunch of the pro teams would die to get their hands on you. You're already good at it, just keep going and see what you can manage.”“I can do that,” Harry told him firmly. Grinning, he added, “I like it, actually. It's fun to smack the ball around.”“It is!” Sirius laughed. “It's cathartic too, especially when you're in a bad mood. Great way to take out your aggressions.”“I can completely understand that,” Harry laughed, relaxing. This was good. He was glad he talked with Sirius and could now press on to other things that were more fun, thus relaxing him even more. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
