I know some of you have been rooting for Edge and Draco. Well this chapter is for you. ;)

By the time Edge made it back to the castle, he had calmed back down. He had taken a longer route to do just that. It was nearing morning. He was tired and hungry. Not a good combination for a vampire.
Draco was sitting in the floor with books and parchment spread out on the center table in front of the fireplace. The blonde had already changed into pajamas. He looked up when Edge entered.
“You’re later than normal.” He stated before turning back to whatever it was he was working on.
Edge watched the blonde for a few moments in curiosity. “Were you waiting up for me?”
Draco shrugged. “I couldn’t sleep anyway; thought I would try to get some studying done while I waited.”
That’s right. They had end of the year exams coming up in a few more months. What a thing to add to an already stressful time.
Edge yawned as he moved to his room to get changed. Cotton pajamas would feel lovely right about now. When he walked back into the main room he found Draco had moved. He was standing by the desk that was between their two rooms. The young man looked like he had made a decision and was determined to carry it out but was still nervous about what the results would be.
“Draco?”
Draco looked over to Edge before turning to face him directly. “You didn’t feed again.”
Edge was slightly shocked at the firm tone in Draco’s voice. “No. How did you know?”
“You’re still pale. You always gain color after you eat.” Draco stated matter of fact not moving or backing down when Edge moved closer to him.
He slid the goblet Edge used to drink from toward him. It was empty. Edge looked at him confused and slightly irritated. He wanted to eat and go to bed.
Draco took a deep breath. “Do you want it in the goblet or from the source?”
It took a moment for Edge to fully digest what Draco had said. He narrowed his eyes at the younger man who still did not back down from him. “I told you, you cannot feed us both.”
“I’m not.” Draco said firmly with a small glare of his own. “If you would stop long enough to listen, Harry hasn’t had any of my blood since my first donation.” Draco took a step toward Edge. Edge did not move. They were close enough Edge could smell the fresh scent of a recent shower coming from the man in front of him. “I’ll ask again. Goblet or source?”
Edge gritted his teeth together so hard it hurt. It did nothing to take away from the itch he suddenly felt in his gums. “You have not donated?”
Draco shook his head. “Not to the stock, no. To you, yes.”
So he had been drinking Draco’s blood only. Edge swallowed the saliva building up in his mouth as his eyes moved from those silver blue eyes to focus where he could just see Draco’s pulse under his skin. His hands clenched into fists to keep himself from grabbing and pulling the warm body in front of him into his own. Was Draco really offering that pale neck to him? As though Draco had heard his thoughts, he tilted his head to the side. Edge flicked his eyes up to take in the calm expression looking back at him.
“I’m willing if you are.”
Edge growled pushing Draco against the wall between his room and the desk. A brief flicker of surprise passed over the blonde’s eyes before they returned to their calm appearance. His pupils were dilated. Interesting.
Draco watched as dark blue bled over into gold. Edge leaned closer to him and breathed deeply, taking in his scent. There was a soft groan before the vampire stepped back from him.
“You are truly willing?” Edge knew his voice was rough, and his fangs were definitely on display, but his control was slipping fast.
Draco eyed him. There was no trace of fear or hesitation anywhere on his face or in his scent. When Draco spoke it was a low whisper. “I want you to.”
Control? What control? Edge growled. One hand fisted in the blonde’s hair pulling his head to the side in just the right angle. He stepped close enough to push Draco’s body into the wall behind him. Draco groaned reaching up to grasp at pale arms. There was no hesitation this time. Edge sunk his fangs in deep.
Dear sweet Merlin. Edge groaned at the taste flowing over his tongue. It was hot and rich with that sweet undertone he had been craving. Cloves and cinnamon burst over his tongue even stronger than they had before. Drinking from the goblet, even that small taste in the Potions classroom, paled in comparison to this. Edge pressed closer practically melding his body to Draco’s. Draco moaned and clung to him just the way Edge imagined he would but it was so much better. Dimly he registered the mark on his thigh burning but could care less about it.
If his little dragon’s blood tasted like this, what did his magic taste like? Before Edge could fully register what he was doing he reached out with a summons. He coaxed Draco’s magic up through his veins. Draco whimpered and held tighter to him. Almost. Just there. The spark of magic rushed over his tongue and Edge reeled his head back from Draco’s neck holding that last mouthful of blood savoring it with his eyes closed. Oh. OH. This was what his magic and instinct had been pulling him to. His body shivered. Could this be what true compatibility tasted like? He felt so tingly and warm. He held Draco tighter.
Edge swallowed as his eyes fluttered open. He quickly leaned forward to seal his bite and clean the residue from Draco’s neck causing a whimper to rise forth from the blonde. Leaning back, still keeping Draco wonderfully pinned where he was, he took in the tense expression on the others face.
“Draco.”
Draco’s eyes fluttered open to look at him. His pupils were blown; almost completely blacking out the color of his irises. His body was taunt in his effort not to move against Edge. Edge moved an arm around Draco’s waist and lowered his head. He felt the mark cut into his thigh making his leg twitch and him groan in pain.
Draco noticed. “Edge?” he asked concerned.
Edge looked into those worried eyes. Fading was the bliss and the arousal. No. Dante had hurt him enough. Dante had already taken so much. Edge was not going to let him take this.
“I’m going to kiss you.”
Draco groaned. “Yes, please.”
Edge crashed his lips to Draco’s. Draco responded eagerly. His hands moved up to tangle in the dark hair at the nape of Edge’s neck holding the vampire close. Edge kept his dragon wrapped close as he pressed their hips together. Moans sounded from the both of them to be swallowed up by their kiss. Tongues danced. Draco’s rubbed against a fang causing it to bleed and the younger man winced. Edge sucked it into his mouth swallowing down the blood and the pleasured groan.
His mind felt foggy with pleasure he could not remember ever feeling before. Draco pulled away from him to kiss and nip along his jaw to mouth at his neck. Edge whimpered and pressed closer. The burning mark began to fade into the background. Edge rolled his hips against the ones pressed into the wall.
“Edge.” Draco whimpered.
Edge groaned thickly. He lifted Draco up allowing him to wrap his legs tightly around his waist. Edge turned and laid the human back on the desk. Draco looked up at him through hooded eyes as Edge pushed up his pajama top to feel the warm skin underneath. Draco hissed at the temperature difference but that was his only complaint. He keened and threw his head back when Edge moved the same hand under the bottoms to wrap around him.
Arousal was thick on the air and Edge was drunk on it. Sparks of magic danced around them making him crave another taste. Would Draco let him? He leaned over the blonde, nuzzling at his neck even as he sped up his strokes.
“Little dragon.” He purred. “Can I have another taste?” Edge ran his tongue along the length of the exposed skin.
Draco groaned, clinging to Edge as his hips moved in time with Edge’s ministrations. “Yes.” He breathed.
Edge sank his fangs in. Blood and magic burst over his tongue. He groaned. Warmth once again flowed over his tongue and flowed throughout his body. He was never going to get enough. Draco’s cry as he came, aided in Edge finding his own peak. Slowly, Edge removed his fangs, lapping at the skin to close the puncture marks. Draco breathed heavily under him, eyes closed, legs and arms still wrapped around Edge preventing him from going anywhere. Not that Edge wanted to go anywhere but the desk was not the place for post-coital snuggles. Nor was it the place for conversation. Ignoring Draco’s groans of protest, Edge lifted him up.
“Yours or mine?”
Draco lifted his head from the vampires shoulder to look at him in shock. “You…you’re going to stay with me?”
“If you would like me to.” Edge did his best to keep his voice from sounding too earnest in his desire. He was not so sure he succeeded.
Draco thought a minute. “Yours.”
Edge smiled which Draco returned with a small happy one of his own. He leaned in to kiss the little dragon when the mark seared against his skin. Edge cursed and jerked away, almost dropping Draco to the floor but managing to get him back on the desk before Edge fell to his knees. Draco was immediately down with him.
“Edge! What’s wrong?”
Edge allowed himself to be held. Admittedly, he held onto Draco just as tightly. He breathed deeply through his nose taking in the sweet and musky scent of his now lover. Edge half expected the mark to burn some more but it slowly tapered off allowing him to relax into the blondes arms. The fuck was wrong with this thing? He didn’t care but he needed a moment to collect himself.
“Edge?”
The vampire moved away refusing to look at Draco. “Maybe we should get cleaned up.”
Draco watched as Edge stood and disappeared into his room. What just happened? One minute Edge was smiling, dare he say lovingly, at him clearly about to kiss him again, when all of a sudden he is dropping to the floor in pain. Now the vampire won’t even look at him.
Take it easy with him and don’t take anything personally.
Harry’s words came back to him. Had he pushed Edge too far too quickly? No, if Harry’s words are true, then it was nothing he did, but something on Edge’s side. Draco did as Edge suggested and retreated to his rooms to get cleaned up and change into a new set of pajamas. Should he go back to Edge’s room or stay here? Edge made the decision for him by knocking on the door frame to get his attention. Edge looked contrite as he stood in the doorway.
“Sorry if I freaked you out.”
Draco shook his head. “It’s okay.”
Draco walked the few steps closer to Edge who stared at him wearily almost as if he expected more pain. He felt his heart clench in sadness for the vampire in front of him. What could possibly be wrong?
It’s very likely Edge is part of an unfinished mating bond.
Draco vaguely remembered hearing Hermione mention that to Harry. Was that true? Was that what was hurting Edge every time they got close? Draco wasn’t stupid or blind. He had noticed that Edge acted pained after feeding from him but the desire and pure want was there too. Edge wanted to feed from him, wanted to be with him, but could a half bond be holding him from that? Draco fought against his nerves and stepped closer.
“Are you marked?”
Edge flinched back from him trying to put distance between them but Draco grabbed hold of his shirt. His reaction was all the answer Draco needed.
“How bad does it hurt?”
Edge looked at the hand holding his shirt then up to the face looking imploringly at him. His whole body was ready for flight and his eyes were wide. “Draco…”
“How bad does the mark hurt you?” Draco said firmly not letting Edge go.
It took a moment of silently staring back at Edge for the vampire to sigh and step back toward Draco. Draco still refused to let go of his shirt – just in case.
“It comes and goes.” Edge answered quietly avoiding eye contact. “It faded there for a bit but apparently came back with a vengeance. It’s silent now.”
“You didn’t answer the question.” Accusation was clear in his voice and stance.
Edge whipped his head up to glare at him. What did Draco want from him? He was exhausted and all he wanted to do was slide under the covers with the young man in front of him. All Draco wanted was to focus on the mark. Irritation clawed at him. A strong hand removed Draco’s comparatively weak grip from his shirt. It was a clear move to show Draco that Edge was only still there because he wanted to be.
“It burns. Is that what you want to hear? That it feels like fire branding into my thigh every time I even think about kissing you, holding you…” Edge stepped close to him so they were almost nose to nose. “Fucking you.” Draco inhaled sharply. Edge grinned pulling the hand he still had clasped within his own behind his back so that Draco was stretched along his body. “Oh yes, I’ve thought about it. So have you. Don’t try to deny it. I’ve smelt your arousal. Tasted it.” Edge was purring by this point backing Draco up until his knees met the edge of his mattress. Draco whined. “There it is.”
Edge licked from shoulder to ear making Draco shiver. He was losing himself in Draco’s scent and taste again. A faint burning started again, making the muscles of his leg twitch, but Edge barely felt a thing.
Draco felt the nip on his ear the same time he felt Edge’s left leg jerk. He pushed against Edge’s chest but the vampire didn’t seem to want to move.
“Edge, stop.” He said firmly.
It reached through the fog that clouded Edge’s mind. The vampire released Draco immediately and was by the door before Draco could blink. Draco stumbled at the sudden loss of bodily contact.
“Sorry.” Edge leaned against the doorframe running a hand through his hair trying to get his bearings back. Had he done something wrong? “You are quite addictive, little dragon.”
Draco flushed at the use of the nickname Edge had given him. It meant Edge wasn’t angry or upset. He did look tired though. No wonder, Draco thought, the sun must have risen a while ago.
“Is this something you can even do?” Draco motioned between the two of them. If this was going to physically hurt Edge then Draco could buck up and deal with the vampire feeding from others.
Edge barked a laugh. “If you think I am giving you up now you have another thing coming, little dragon.” He looked at Draco seriously. “I am so tired of being tethered to someone who clearly does not want me. Yes, this mark will hurt and burn and do everything it can to stop me. I will not give into it. Not now. I’m done.” Edge once again moved to Draco taking his face in his cool hands. “I want you, Draco, and for more than just food. Is that something you want as well? Could you want me even though I am currently marked by someone else?”
Draco took in the nervous, almost desperate, way Edge was looking at him. He could hear the anxiousness in his voice. Draco felt his gut clench. Could he? He did want Edge, almost desperately so, especially after being fed from like that. He wanted so much more…but…could Edge give that to him being marked as he was? Could he deal with the flinches every time Edge touched him or looked at him a certain way and not feel guilty – like he was to blame for the pain?
“I want you. I do.” Draco felt uneasy at the thought of Edge being hurt. How was that fair to Edge?
Edge tilted his head slightly at him. He looked even more uneasy. “I hear a ‘but’ there.” He said anxiously.
“I don’t like the thought of being the cause for the pain.”
Edge’s eyes grew hard. He stepped away from Draco. “You are not the cause.” He said firmly, angrily. Draco fought the urge to flinch. Edge was not mad at him.
“But I cause the mark to burn.” Draco stepped forward reaching for Edge but the vampire stayed out of his reach. “Edge…” He just needed to get Edge calmed down enough to listen to reason.
Edge turned from him with a growl. “It’s not you!” His teeth were clenched and he looked so close to losing it. “It’s me!” He turned to face Draco again. Draco felt his chest grow tight at the sight of tears in Edge’s eyes. “I am doing this to myself because I finally want something other than what I had. I’m choosing to make a future for myself instead of living in a past that no longer wants me.” Fire began to lick across his thigh again. Edge gritted his teeth and carried on. “I want you to be part of that. Please, Draco, I can handle a little bit of pain and I refuse to let Dante control me anymore.”
“Why?” Draco’s voice was soft but Edge heard him and froze sending him an uncomprehending look. “Why all of a sudden?”
“Sudden?” Edge winced at the high pitch in his voice. He cleared it. “You think this is sudden?” The vampire started to pace his hands in his hair. Draco could see the frustration and aggravation in the way Edge moved but he stood still and quiet. “You think I haven’t tried multiple times before? Nothing ever stuck. Everyone always paled in comparison.”
Edge stopped pacing. His arms hung at his side and his head hung with his chin resting on his chest. Draco’s heart hurt to see him looked so defeated. He did not look at Draco as he continued.
“Then you showed up. I knew you were human when I first saw you with Harry. Your scent intrigued me then but I had other concerns so was able to brush it off. I had forgotten it by the time we next interacted.” Edge looked at him then. “You smelt good even then but I was never close enough for it to overwhelm me and I was able to brush it off as mild interest.” Edge shrugged.
Draco remained silent knowing Edge needed to continue. It took a few seconds but Edge sighed deeply before he spoke again.
“It took all I had to not storm in and grab you the minute I heard Greyback say he wanted you.” Draco gasped and tensed at the reminder. Edge sent him a comforting look. “I did not understand it at the time, but I was anxious. I had promised Severus I would not interfere unless absolutely necessary but the longer it took the more anxious I got. I kept thinking the wolf would catch your scent the longer you were there. I wanted to get the both of you out of there, especially you.”
Draco remembered thinking Edge had seemed extremely anxious at the time. He hadn’t understood completely then, but he did now.
Edge stepped up to him. “There were more things that confused me, but it wasn’t until I tasted your blood for the first time that it all started getting out of hand. I didn’t know it was your blood at first but I knew it smelled familiar. The staleness of it being stored threw me off but it was the best I had tasted…ever… if I’m honest.”
“Then I sliced my finger.” Draco was trying to understand everything being said. Could it be Edge was just drawn to him because of his blood? The thought made him feel a little nauseous.
Edge closed his eyes and nodded. He opened them looking at Draco intently. “I kept failing at feeding because they weren’t you.”
“My blood you mean.” Draco inhaled. He brought up his shields. “You are only drawn to my blood.”
“What?” Edge jerked back obviously hurt and confused. “No!”
“Then what else could it be?” Draco threw his arms in the air.
“Would it really be so hard to believe that I am drawn to all of you?” Edge questioned. “Your scent, your blood, yes obviously. I’m a vampire, little dragon, that’s going to be a big component for me. But you have courage…” Draco snorted. “…You do. You stand up to me, don’t you?” Edge smiled at Draco when a small, soft, embarrassed smile graced his face. “You care for those you call friends. If you didn’t I hardly doubt you would have been so insistent on keeping me fed or even donated for Harry.” A small blush was now blooming across Draco’s cheeks. “And there is your magic.”
It was not lost to Draco that Edge sounded almost hesitant when he said the last bit. He had even said it softly in way that made Draco think Edge had not meant for him to hear it. “My magic?” He pushed.
Edge blushed. It was the first true blush Draco had seen on the vampires face. Had his blood really livened up Edge that much? Draco felt an immense feeling of pride and accomplishment. He did that for Edge. Not anyone else.
“Yes, your magic. I don’t know if you realized, but I took some of it as well.” Edge mumbled quickly.
“You what?!” How the hell was that even possible?
Edge quickly brought up his hands in a placating manner. “Only the smallest amount, just a taste really.”
Draco didn’t know if he was more insulted that he wasn’t asked first or confused. “You can take people’s magic?!”
“Not in the way your tone implies.” Edge stepped forward motioning for Draco to sit. Draco did. “Animalis are magically driven. One has to have a certain degree of magical power to even think of becoming one of us. We are not like your run of the mill typical vampire that most people have heard about.”
“Obviously.” Draco mumbled. Edge sent him a look that was not impressed.
“That being said it should be understandable that we look for magical compatibility when we pick our partners.”
“So, you and Dante are compatible?” Draco did not want to think about how that thought made him feel.
Edge grimaced and shrugged. “We were, I guess, on a certain level. He couldn’t have claimed me if we weren’t.”
Draco paused. “Were?”
“Yes, were. Many things have changed over the years that we have been apart. Maybe if things were different…” Edge trailed off then shook himself. “I don’t know. I don’t think I care actually, not as much as I thought I would have. Not now.”
“What changed?” Calm down heart, Draco thought.
The look in Edge’s eyes when he looked at Draco made his breath catch.
“I found you.”
“What does that mean?” Draco whispered not daring to speak any louder should his voice give him away.
Edge sat down beside him still giving him plenty of space. He looked at his hands which were clasped in front of him. He looked nervous. “We are compatible…magically… more compatible than anyone I’ve ever met before.”
Draco swallowed thickly. Did this mean what he thought it did? “Meaning?”
Edge looked at him with intensity in those blue eyes that made it hard for Draco to breathe. “Little dragon, you may very well be a mate.” Edge swallowed nervously even though he kept eye contact.
“A true mate.”
