Draco shifted impatiently while he waited for Hermione to show up outside of Snape’s office. She’d promised to get a drop of Potter’s blood after dinner and meet him there. His mind drifted back to lunch. What a crazy dance she’d taught him, but it was enjoyable, especially when her delectable little bum shook back and forth to the music. He thought it was ridiculous at first but he had to admit that he hadn’t had so much fun in a very long time.
“Must be a good memory.”
Draco jumped and drew his wand, relaxing when he realized it was Snape. “Sorry Professor. And yes, a very good memory.”
“It wouldn’t happen to be that display of utter frivolity you put on at lunch, would it?”
“You saw?”
“A lot of people did,” Snape corrected. “However, none of them could quite make out who you were.”
“And I’m sure you informed them,” Draco sighed as he was ushered into Snape’s office.
The vampire scoffed and lit the hearth. “Hardly. That’s the last thing this school needs is a bunch of old biddies and young harpies running around making wild assumptions out of a bit of harmless fun.”
“Harmless fun?” Draco asked incredulously. Snape was okay with harmless fun?
“Believe it or not Draco, I have had fun in my time.”
Draco cleared his throat and looked away, unable to hide the uncomfortable feeling of knowing what the professor was getting at. After all, he’d witnessed some of that fun first hand. It wasn’t like he’d asked the room for that vision but he couldn’t not see it.
“Have you learned to see through walls then?” Snape asked with a smirk. “I can assure you that Miss Granger is not here yet.”
“Stop that,” Draco snapped. “It’s uncomfortable enough… knowing what we do. We didn’t ask for this.”
“But you were given it nevertheless. I suggest you find a way to put it to good use.”
Draco groaned and rubbed his eyes with the palm of his hands. “Where do you start repairing a fuckup that happened before the castle was even open to students?”
“You start in the present I’d imagine. There is an old muggle saying by a Chinese philosopher named Lao-tzu: a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. I believe it would apply to your prophecy.”
“So we go one step at a time then,” Draco said, his hands still over his eyes.
Snape hummed. “So it would seem. Have you decided where to begin?”
Draco put his hands on the desk. “Well, Hermione broke down in transfiguration. She saw Greengrass and Nott walk in and, you know, I never realized how absolutely miserable they looked before.”
Snape nodded. “No doubt they are not happy with their contract.”
“Not only that, they’re both in love with other people, muggle-borns. They were forced into the contract. It’s so much like Shakespeare that I wanted to vomit. I just… I could barely sit still.”
“The castle has made you sensitive to others now. Take it as a blessing Draco. Merlin knows that I wouldn’t be in this…predicament had I been more sympathetic.”
Draco frowned. “Would you change it if you could go back?”
Snape sighed. “That is a question I’ve asked myself time and time again, a fruitless one. I’m not sure I would change anything because it is very likely I would be in James Potter’s place and I can’t bring myself to want to go that far.”
“Do you love Naomi?”
Snape clenched his jaw and nodded sharply. “It was a very slow progression for us, not the whirlwind romance you had. She was amazing with Venus and made it no secret that she wanted me. She didn’t press though, simply stood by me while I did what I had to do in order to succeed.”
“A-are you sure she is still… existing?” Draco whispered, cringing that he had to ask.
Snape growled. “Yes. I would have felt it if she had passed on. I just can’t feel where she is.”
“Well, she’ll more than likely be with Venus then,” Draco said. “And we can track her.”
Their conversation was cut short by a hurried knock at the door. Snape barely bade them entrance before Hermione came careening through the door, wide eyed and breathing heavily. She threw up a locking charm and hurried over to the desk carrying a tiny glass phial in her hand.
“Miss Granger, do you by chance have a pack of wild hippogriffs chasing you?”
“No sir,” she panted. “But there is a very angry Harry Potter after me. He didn’t take too kindly to me stabbing him with a quill when he wouldn’t quit questioning me.”
Snape chuckled and held his hand out for the vial, taking it reverently. Heavy banging reverberated around the room followed by angry shouts.
“I know you’re in there Hermione!” Harry yelled. “Get out here!”
Snape laid the vial in a nearby rack so it wouldn’t be damaged. “I shall handle this.” He shot across the room and threw the door opened. “May I help you?”
Harry shot back and stammered for a moment before gathering enough courage to point at Hermione and yell. “She stabbed me!”
“And,” Snape drawled.
“She didn’t have a reason!”
“To hear it from her, she had a very good reason Mr. Potter.”
“What?”
“You have bombarded her with nonstop questions and badgered her incessantly for every detail of her rather traumatic internment. I have witnessed her attempts to ask you to stop, going so far as to beg you and then hex you. Perhaps drawing a bit of your blood will get it through your thick skull that the girl doesn’t want to think on it any longer.”
“I just want to know what happened.” Harry snapped.
“She was bloody well locked in a room you imbecile. Any events that occurred inside is for her alone to decide to divulge to you and she will do so in her own time without you constantly hounding her like a small child. Grow up, Mr. Potter, or risk losing your friend in your folly. The choice is yours. Good day.”
Hermione couldn’t stop the insane laughter that bubbled up inside her when Snape slammed the door in Harry’s face. The experience was surreal. The vampire who’d always mocked her for her tendency to spew facts at the drop of a hat was actually coming to her aid. The person he was protecting her from was the half-brother of his daughter. And they were gathered in this very room to find said daughter.
“If you are done having a psychotic break,” Snape snapped. “I should like to get started.”
“Of course sir,” she said, trying desperately not to giggle. “It’s just… well, thank you.”
“Contrary to popular believe, Miss Granger, I do, in fact, have a heart.”
Hermione sobered immediately. “I know sir. But… you really should tell Harry. Don’t you think he and Venus deserve to know they have other family?”
“Venus is already quite aware she has a brother,” Snape said stiffly. “However, she also knew that making contact with him would put them both in very grave danger. It was a risk I wasn’t willing to take. She agreed.”
“Where did she go to school, sir?” Draco asked.
“I taught her,” Snape whispered. “And Naomi promised to finish her schooling.”
“Well, let’s find her,” Draco said. “Are you ready to see your daughter?”
Snape nodded. “I’ve never wanted anything so badly in my life.”
Draco nodded and handed him the instructions. “Good luck sir.”
Snape nodded. “I’ll need it.”
AN: The public library frowns upon those who would dare visit an adult website to post stories. *blushes* I can't post from my phone, but I can read your reviews from it. As always, thanks to everyone who gave them. I noticed that many of you think Hermione hates Harry and Ron but she doesn't. They've done nothing but badger her about an experience she'd rather not discuss. She's not angry, she's aggravated. Just stick with me nd you'll see the light at the end of the tunnel. Keep those reviews coming and let me know how I'm doing. Until next time... love you guys.
