The week had passed rather quickly, and before Hermione knew it, the day of the ball was amongst them. The ball was literally the only thing that girls were talking about, and everywhere you went that's the only topic that was heard. The guys, even though they were looking forward to it, obviously didn't talk about it the way the girls did. They talked amongst themselves to see who had a date and who didn't. They were also trying to determine which girls were still available to be asked.
Hermione sat down next to Harry in the Great Hall for breakfast, and Ginny took the seat opposite of them.
"So Harry, you got yourself a date for the ball tonight?" Ginny asked.
"No. You girls were supposed to get me a list remember?" Harry stated.
"I'm so sorry Harry, I totally forgot, with the whole drama with Ron and everything.." Ginny said apologetically.
"Don't worry about it, I honestly don't care that I don't have a date. I'm a horrible dancer anyways, and at least this way I won't embarrass myself."
"I'm sure we can ask around and see who would be interested in going to the dance with you?"
"It's cool Gin, seriously. Plus, I am sure there is going to be girls going to the dance solo, so if I really feel the need to dance, I'm sure I can find someone there."
"That's true" Hermione stated. "I've been overhearing a lot of conversations, and a lot of girls still haven't been asked to the dance."
"See? I'm golden" Harry stated.
"Alright, whatever you say" Ginny said.
"Are you girls going to classes today?" Harry asked.
"I'm not" Ginny said automatically.
"Ginny! You can't skip classes" Hermione scolded.
"Oh seriously Hermione, the teachers all know the girls aren't going to be attending classes. That's why they've all been shortened to an hour. I seriously doubt that I'm going to be missing anything."
"Still, they shortened the classes to an hour, meaning that they still want the students to attend their regular classes."
"Live a little Hermione! It's one day of classes, it's not going to kill you."
"I don't know Gin.." Hermione said biting her lip in thought.
Draco took that opportunity to come up behind her, flanked by Blaise.
"What's up Malfoy, Zabini?" Harry asked in greeting.
"Potter" Draco said nodding his head in acknowledgment.
All the students turned to stare, but they glanced quickly and looked away. They were now used to seeing the two Slytherins with the Gryffindor's. Actually, they were seldom seen without one another now-a-days.
"Malfoy, convince Hermione it's not the end of the world to miss classes today" Ginny said.
"Oh yes, the girls need to do all their preparations for the dance" Blaise said mocking them.
"If you're going to be a smart ass, you'll being going solo tonight" Ginny said sweetly.
Blaise narrowed his eyes at her, but kept his mouth shut.
Draco smirked at Blaise, knowing if it had been anyone else, he would have fired back a comment immediately. That proved how much Blaise liked Ginny, either that, or he really didn't want to go to the dance alone.
"Is that why you have a worried expression on your face?" Draco asked looking back down at Hermione.
"I've never missed a class intentionally before.. What if I miss something important?" Hermione asked nervously, biting her lip.
"I doubt the teachers are going to be doing anything that important today, but, if it makes you feel any better, I will be going to classes so I can take notes in any of the classes that I have with you" Draco stated.
"Yeah Hermione, and I'll take notes in the other ones that Malfoy doesn't have with us." Harry said.
Hermione looked at them both with an adoring look on her face.
"You guys would do that for me?" Hermione asked smiling.
"Of course" Harry answered at once.
Draco looked down at her and said softly "You know I would do anything you asked"
"You're growing soft on me" Blaise said slapping Draco on the back.
"Shove off Zabini" Draco said shoving him back.
"Hey guys"
Five heads snapped to the direction that the voice had come from. Draco stiffened immediately.
"What do you want Weasley" Draco snapped.
Ron let out a deep breath and ran his hand through his hair nervously.
"This isn't easy for me, so just hear me out."
"Well come out with it then, I haven't got all day" Draco stated.
"Draco.." Hermione said warningly.
"Okay, so I know I haven't exactly been the best of friends to you guys lately.." Ron said slowly.
"Way to state the obvious" Draco said rolling his eyes.
Ron narrowed his eyes at Malfoy and said "Let me finish."
Hermione reached over and grabbed Draco's hand, giving it a small squeeze.
"I admit that I was a complete git to you Hermione when you told me about you and Malfoy. And I was just as rude to you also Harry, when you took Hermione's side. But, I can't blame you for what you did. What I said was both rude and disrespectful and I never should have said it. I took some time to think about what Ginny said to me in the carriage the other day, and I realized that she was right. Hermione, I am sorry for the things that I said to you, and about you, and Harry I'm sorry for putting you in the position where you had to choose sides, and I'm also sorry for getting mad at you when you chose the right side."
Ron let a deep breath out after this, and ran his hands through his hair again, a nervous gesture.
Ron looked up at Malfoy.
"Malfoy, I know me and you have never been the best of friends, nor do I think we ever will, but I don't want to lose my friendship with either Hermione or Harry. From what I have seen, even though I hate to admit it, but you make Hermione happy, and it's nice to see that, even though it took me this long to realize it."
Draco looked over at Hermione and saw that she was beaming happily.
"I'm not saying that you guys have to forgive me for my actions, but I needed to apologize and admit to you all that I was in the wrong. So Hermione, if Malfoy is who you want to be with, then so be it. And Ginny, the same goes for you, if Zabini is who you want to be with, and you are both happy with them, then I will support your decision and be happy for you."
Hermione got up and ran over to Ron and flung her arms around him.
"Of course I forgive you Ron" she said smiling, happy tears trailing down her cheeks.
Ginny got up and hugged her brother also.
"About time you were done being a git" she said as she pulled back and swatted him playfully.
Ron smiled at Hermione and Ginny, happy that they both forgave him. He looked at Harry who smiled also and said "Glad to have you back."
Ron then looked at Draco and Blaise and nodded his head at both of them in acknowledgment.
Draco looked at Hermione and then held out his hand for Ron.
Ron looked at it surprised, but then shook Draco's hand.
"I do apologize Malfoy, and I hope the two of us can try and get along for Hermione's sake."
Draco nodded in response, not wanting to say too much or too little.
Dumbledore smiled from up at the teachers table as he watched the scene in front of him unfold. For so long he had tried to get the houses to all get along, and it from the looks of it, it was finally happening. He felt utter joy upon seeing this. He had never agreed with the rivalry that was present between all the houses, because the students had never done anything against one another in the first place, they had merely been sorted into a house, and the rivalries had begun, even without the students knowing one another. The rivalry had been built because of the war between good and evil, and everyone had automatically assumed that Slytherin was evil, causing hatred between them and the other houses.
One of the reasons Dumbledore had appointed Draco as Head Boy, was because he knew that Hermione was one of the people who wouldn't just ignore Draco completely. She liked to see the good in people, and Dumbledore knew that behind Draco's front was a very confused and corrupted boy, who had been brought up in the wrong family. Had Draco not have been brought up by one of Voldemorts main followers, and a man who had expected way too much out of his son, he knew that Draco would have turned out a lot differently.
Dumbledore had to admit, he had always seen a spark between Hermione and Draco, even if the two of them wouldn't have admitted it. They were both incredibly smart, the two smartest students who were attending Hogwarts. And when it came to each other, neither would back down. They would shoot comments back and forth at one another like no tomorrow. There had always been chemistry between the two, ever since first year. Dumbledore had caught Draco looking at Hermione every now and then, even if the boy would not admit it. Even though when he had been younger, Draco had believed in all the blood status nonsense that his father had drilled into his head, Dumbledore had seen Draco take an interest in Hermione. She was a muggleborn, yes, but her smarts and her witty yet fierce attitude was something that had caught Draco's attention, even at a young age. And this is why Dumbledore supposed Draco had went out of his way to make fun of her this entire time, whether he knew the reasoning behind it or not.
However, he hadn't expected that because Hermione and Draco started getting along, that a relationship would blossom between Ginny and Blaise. That one he was shocked about, and was both surprised and thrilled when he had seen it happen. The group of them all hanging out and getting along was something that Dumbledore had always hoped for, and the day he saw Hermione, Ginny, Harry, Draco, and Blaise all walk into the Great Hall together, was a day that he would never forget. He was just glad that Ron had finally come around also, he had always known that Ron would be the last one to come around to the idea of being friendly with the Slytherins.
"Mind if I sit down with you guys?" Ron asked nervously.
Ginny sat back down in her seat and patted the seat beside her.
Ron smiled at her thankfully, and took the seat his sister offered him.
"Well, as nice as this has all been, I'm exceptionally hungry." Blaise stated.
"You're such a guy" Ginny stated rolling her eyes, with a big smile on her face.
"I'm a man baby, all man" Blaise said with a wink.
"Ugh, gross." Draco said pretending to vomit.
"You're just jealous" Blaise said sending him a wink.
"Yeah, whatever Zabini, keep telling yourself that. Anyways, I'm leaving now before I actually start throwing up," Draco leaned down and kissed Hermione on the cheek. "And don't worry about classes, me and Potter have got you covered. Go and have fun getting ready with Weaselette."
"Thanks Draco" Hermione said smiling.
"Later babe" Blaise said winking at Ginny.
Blaise and Draco walked over to the Slytherin table for breakfast, leaving the four Gryffindors behind.
"So weird hearing Malfoy talk to one of us without hatred evident in his voice.." Ron stated.
"You get used to it" Harry said.
"So I'm assuming that you two get along?" Ron asked.
"Surprisingly, yeah. I mean he's still Draco Malfoy, and he can be a git at times, but he's actually not too bad when he's being civil to you."
"What is happening with the world. Here we are talking about a nicer side of Malfoy, who would have thought" Ron said shaking his head.

Hermione ended up skipping class after all, wanting to make sure that she had enough time to get ready, which she was sure she still would have had even if she had attended classes.. but Ginny had insisted that the two of them skip classes and head up to her Dorm and get ready. Knowing that both Harry and Draco were going to take notes for her, did ease a lot of her stress, and also helped persuade her into the decision of skipping classes.
Hermione walked over to her dresser, and turned on an ipod which she had brought with her from home. Music started playing out of the speakers that she had it hooked up to as soon as she hit play.
Ginny, who was always amazed by muggle items, stared at it in awe an asked Hermione a few questions to better understand how it worked.
Hermione pulled her dress out of the closet, and felt butterflies in her stomach. As excited as she was to wear her dress, she was also nervous. She had never worn anything like this before, and she was sort of worried about what other people would say or think.
Since Hermione didn't have a lot of experience with the whole ball and getting girly thing, Ginny was there giving her pointers. The first being that Hermione needed to make sure her legs were nice and smooth, so that's how Hermione found herself in her bathroom, shaving her legs.
Hermione met Ginny back in her bedroom after ten minutes, and Ginny gave her the next step.
"Okay, so since we're both pale, I looked up a spell that can help give us a little colour."
"What do you mean?" Hermione asked.
"This spell is supposed to give us a tan, but obviously not too dark. You can choose how dark you want your skin to go. But, since we are both so white, I made sure to go with a lighter tint that won't be as obvious. I was thinking that since your legs are going to be exposed, giving them a little bit more colour will make them look longer and more luscious."
"If you think it will look good, then okay. Just make sure not to make me too dark, I don't tan. And I also don't want it to be obvious that we altered our appearances that much" Hermione said.
"Trust me Hermione, I know what I'm doing. And I know you're not the girly type, so I'll make sure not to do anything too drastic. Besides, I want to accent your features, not make you look fake."
"Okay" Hermione said.
"Alright, so I'm assuming that you're going to be wearing a strapless bra and panties under your dress, right?" Ginny asked.
Hermione's face went beat red.
"It's nothing to be embarrassed about Hermione, I'm a girl." Ginny said smiling at Hermione, trying to make her less uncomfortable.
"I actually didn't think about what I was going to wear under my dress, so I don't have a strapless bra.." Hermione said slowly.
"No problem, hand me one of your bras" Ginny stated.
Hermione went into her dresser, and grabbed out one of her bras, and handed it over to Ginny.
Ginny used a spell, one Hermione herself had never heard of, and when Ginny handed her her bra back, the straps were gone. Hermione felt the bra and her eyes snapped up to Ginny who looked at her innocently.
"What?"
"Gin! My bra never had any padding in it before!" Hermione exclaimed.
"I know that Hermione, but honestly, you have great sized boobs, so I made your bra so that it will accentuate them a little bit more, push them up and make them pop. Trust me, you'll be thanking me once you see what it does for you."
Hermione eyed her skeptically, but didn't argue. Ginny knew what she was doing, that much Hermione knew.
"Alright so go put on your bra and pants and come back out here, and I'll use the spell on your skin" Ginny said.
Hermione did as she was told, and came out of the bathroom a few minutes later, feeling very self-conscious.
Ginny paid no attention, and was indifferent to the fact that Hermione was now standing in front of her in nothing but her strapless bra and panties.
"Told you that bra would make you pop" Ginny stated.
Hermione looked down at her chest and flushed. She had always had fair sized boobs, but she had always hid them behind her school robes and sweaters. This bra definitely helped in showing off what she had been hiding from everyone over the years.
"Alright, now spread out your arms and legs, and stand like you're in a star" Ginny said.
Hermione did as she was told.
Ginny started waving her wand around, muttering the incantation to make Hermione's skin a bit darker. Hermione felt a cool sensation on her skin as the spell worked its magic.
When Ginny finished, she stepped back and admired her handiwork.
"Not bad" Ginny said nodding her head in approval.
Hermione walked over to the mirror and looked at herself. Ginny had been right, she didn't make Hermione that much darker then she previously had been, she was just a slight shade darker. It made her soft skin look that much smoother, and Hermione smiled at her reflection in the mirror.
"Okay, not I want you to do the same to me." Ginny stated.
She told Hermione the spell, and Hermione waved her wand around, doing the same thing Ginny had done to her. When she had finished, Ginny too was a slight bit darker, but nothing drastic. The only reason Hermione could even tell was because she had done the spell, otherwise she wouldn't really have picked up that Ginny was darker at all.
After Ginny looked at herself in the mirror and approved of her appearance she looked at Hermione and said "Now, we need to put our dresses on, and then after that is hair and makeup."
Hermione and Ginny both slipped into their dresses.
Hermione was looking at herself in the mirror, when Ginny said "I'm glad you bought that dress. It is definitely making a statement, and your legs look even longer and silkier now that you have that slight tan look to them. You're going to look amazing by the time we're done. Malfoy is going to die, and you're going to break all the guys hearts tonight."
"Well Blaise isn't going to know what hit him when he sees you walk out in that dress. I honestly love it on you, and I am so happy that I found it."
Ginny smiled and looked at herself in the mirror.
Ginny grabbed a chair and patted the seat. "Sit, it's time to do your makeup."
Hermione obliged, and sat in the chair.
Ginny started working, and Hermione sat there watching as much as she could. Makeup fascinated her, it was something she never really wore, as she wasn't the best at applying it. Ginny, on the other hand, knew exactly what she was doing and worked on Hermione confidently.
Ginny grabbed a brush, and started working on her cheekbones.
"Alright, it's time to close your eyes" Ginny instructed.
Hermione did as she was told, and felt a Ginny applying makeup to her eyelids. She was excited to see what Ginny was doing with her.
After what felt like an eternity, Ginny pulled back and told her she could open her eyes. Hermione looked at herself in the mirror and was shocked to see the woman staring back at her. Ginny had gone for a bolder look than Hermione was accustomed to, but it still wasn't an overbearing amount of makeup.
Hermione had eyeliner across on her top eyelid, with a thin wing extending past her eye. She had silver eye-shadow on, lightly, which shone in the light. The mascara that Ginny had applied made Hermione's eyelashes both thick and long. Hermione's eyes were bright and shining, and really stood out with her makeup.
"Wow, Gin, thanks" Hermione said smiling at her reflection.
"No problem! Now I'm gonna work on my makeup, so just chill and don't touch your eyes. Once I'm done I'm going to use a spell on both of us so that our makeup will be smudge proof."
Hermione sat down on her bed, and waited patiently for Ginny to finish her makeup. When Ginny turned around for Hermione's approval, Hermione's jaw dropped.
Ginny had used a white/silver eye shadow, along with a blue that matched the colour of her dress. The white eye shadow was shiny, and shined silver in the light, and covered the majority of her eyelid. She had used in the corner of her eye, which really brought accented the blue in her dress. She also had eyeliner across her top lid, which she had also winged out the same as Hermione's.
"That looks amazing" Hermione stated.
"You don't think it's too drastic?" Ginny asked.
"No I don't. I think it goes amazingly with the dress."
"Okay" Ginny said smiling.
Ginny reached into her bag, which she had brought with her, and pulled out a whole bunch of magazines.
"What are those for?" Hermione asked.
"For our hairstyles. Go through and find one that you like, and then I'll use some magic to copy the hairstyle. It's a lot easier than having to do it yourself, and plus, what's the point in being a wizard if we can't cheat a little bit."
So, Hermione and Ginny sat on Hermione's bed and went through the hairstyles until they both found one that they liked.
Hermione had decided on a curly hairstyle, half of it being puled back into a cute bun on the back of her head, the rest of her hair falling into perfect ringlets down her back, along with a few strands on each side framing her face.
Ginny had also decided on going with a curly hairstyle, but all of her hair had been pulled to one side, with a few strands loose on the other side framing her face.
Ginny used magic on both of them, and their hair was exact replicas of the styles that they had picked out from the magazines. She reached into her bag and grabbed out the necklace and shoes she had purchased and slipped them both on.
Hermione followed suit and put on her earrings and slipped on her stilettos.
The two girls stood side by side and looked over their appearances in the mirror.
"We look hot" Ginny stated suddenly.
Hermione giggled.
"Oh! Before I forget"
Ginny grabbed her wand and muttered a spell at Hermione's makeup, and then did it to her own.
"Now our makeup won't smudge" Ginny said smiling.
Hermione smiled at Ginny in return.
The butterflies in her stomach had disappeared completely, and now all she felt was pure excitement at the thought of walking into the Great Hall looking the way she did. She looked like herself, but a more beautiful, confident version of herself. It was amazing how putting on a dress and makeup could make a girl feel so much more confident about herself.
"I can't get over how good you look!" Ginny said looking at Hermione.
"Thanks to you! And you look just as good!"
Hermione glanced over at the clock and was shocked to see that they had spent the entire day getting ready.
She was about to make a comment, but then she heard a knock at the door.
"You ladies ready?" Draco asked from the other side of the door.
Hermione looked over at Ginny, who nodded at her confidently. Hermione turned off her music, and walked towards the door, Ginny trailing behind her. She looked back at Ginny one more time, giving her a very excited, yet nervous smile, and opened the door.
