Glad everyone enjoyed the last chapter!
This chapter is not as much fun unfortunately. More death but a surprise at the end, so don’t hate me too much.

“Are you serious?!” Hermione shrieked.
Draco nodded silently still processing everything that had happened. It took him weeks before he had to talk to someone, anyone. A mate? And not just that, but a true mate? He had not been anywhere near prepared for that bombshell. Granted, he didn’t run away; points in his favor, but he did sort of, kind of, mentally shut off. He had startled Edge enough that the vampire was gently shaking him and calling his name when he had come back online. Edge had begrudgingly left him be when he asked.
They still talked and interacted. They played chess when time allowed. But Edge had kept the feedings very straight forward. He didn’t return to drinking from the goblet, something that relieved and disgruntled Draco. He was relieved that Edge still felt comfortable enough to feed proper but he left Draco to take care of himself after. Draco tried multiple times to get him to stay but Edge would always gently pry his questing hands away and talk down his pleas. There were only so many times someone could jerk off before it became dissatisfying. Draco wanted Edge, he did, but the implications of what being a true mate entailed boggled him. He knew Edge was giving him time and space, while staying around and still wooing him, but Draco really just wanted that raw need directed at him again.
“A true mate? You? But you are human.”
Draco glared at the bushy haired witch. “What is that supposed to mean?”
Hermione rolled her eyes. “I don’t mean it that way. I just thought a true mate would be, I don’t know, a creature of some sort, something more easily able to match them.”
“Severus was human.” Harry said despondently. He wasn’t looking at them. “Edge said he was most likely my true mate.”
No one said anything but looked sadly at each other. What could they say?
Ron was the first to speak. “Shouldn’t the guy you like saying you are his true mate be a good thing?”
Hermione and Draco sent a nervous look toward Harry but it was Harry that answered. “That would depend I guess. Mating is for life after all.”
Draco eyed Harry wearily afraid of a breakdown but Harry appeared to be holding together alright. Harry was still hearing Severus’ voice occasionally. It had worried Draco to the point he was about to mention it to Edge but Harry had assured him that the voice had started telling him not to do anything stupid or dunderheaded. Perhaps Harry had adapted Severus’ voice as his subconscious? Draco didn’t know but he was relieved that the voice didn’t appear to be trying to get Harry outside the castle, from what Harry told him anyway.
“Did Edge mention actually mating?” Hermione brought Draco out of his thoughts.
A blush coated his cheeks as he registered what she had asked. “No. I, kind of, shut down when he told me. He hasn’t brought it up since though.”
“You probably spooked him.” Hermione looked thoughtful.
Draco caught Harry looking at him with an undecipherable expression on his face.
“You guys are still talking though, right?” Ron asked.
Draco nodded. “Yeah. We are still comfortable with each other. We still talk and play our chess games. It’s like he didn’t drop a huge bombshell on me out of nowhere.”
“Is he still feeding from you?”
“Yes, but it’s very…clinical.” It was the only word Draco could think to describe them.
He noticed Harry wince slightly. “He’s likely hurting just as bad as you.”
“He seems pretty content to me.”
Harry snorted. “Trust me, if he told you the truth, he’s not. I don’t see how he’s not ravishing you every time or how you are letting him go.”
Draco blushed again. He noticed Hermione did a little as well. Ron coughed awkwardly.
“I don’t just let him go. Trust me, I’ve tried to get him to lose himself again but his control is iron willed.”
Harry laughed dryly. “I don’t think it’s as good as he lets you believe it is. We don’t have to breathe, remember. If he doesn’t breathe then he can’t smell you. Magic is not always part of feeding either. I never drew on Hermione’s magic when I fed from her.” Harry looked at him with a raised eyebrow. “I bet he is blocking two of the three things that drew him to you the most. That is the only explanation for how you two don’t blow each-others minds when he does feed.”
Draco just knew he was going to be wearing a permanent blush for at least the rest of the night.
“Harry!” Hermione chastised.
“Please, Hermione, if anyone should know how hard it is to resist it’s me.”
Draco stood. “I need some air.” If his face got any hotter it would start to melt off, he was sure of it.
Once out in the corridor, he transformed and jumped into one of the windows pushing the glass open. The nighttime breeze rushed in providing a refreshing coolness. Silver breathed it in but it did little to vanish the images running through his mind. He wanted the possessive kisses. He wanted to be pinned to the wall, desk, hell any surface at this point would suffice. Silver wanted Edge to take him apart as though he owned him. Silver shivered. This had to stop.
Silver perked his ears when a soft howl, followed closely by another, echoed across the grounds. He recognized Cobalt and Moony. Silver glanced up at the full moon shining brightly over everything. It was the third moon. Three months have passed. He wondered if Edge had been able to go with them this time. Silver caught a brief flash of white dart through the trees followed by the dark and tawny shapes of what looked like wolves.
Silver felt a sudden desire to join them. Would he be allowed? Surely if he stayed within the wards it was okay, right?
It only took minutes for Silver to be at the tree line where he had seen them go through. He sniffed. He could pick up on Edge. His nose wasn’t great but the trail was fresh so he shouldn’t have a problem catching up. Or, so he had thought. Silver looked around him not recognizing where he was. His ears flattened and his tail tucked. Was he lost?
Silver turned to go back the way he came attempting to follow his own scent trail. Maybe he should have taken Cobalt up on his offer of working with his nose more. Within minutes, Silver realized he was good and truly lost. Damn. Edge was going to kill him. Silver took a risk and transformed to get his wand. Draco had just started to cast his Patronus when a crack sounded behind him.
Draco whipped around eyes wide with fear. He swore his heart stopped as he took in the narrowed pair of golden eyes staring at him from the darkness. Draco was frozen; he couldn’t move as those eyes moved closer. Heavy paws stepped on leaves and another twig snapped making Draco jerk backwards. He registered ‘werewolf’ just before his adrenaline kicked in. Draco turned to run but the werewolf was faster.

Edge, Cobalt, and Moony raced toward Hogsmeade. Rosemerta had fire-called Dumbledore to ask for aid in a werewolf attack on the village. Voldemort was finally making his move and was using the werewolves first, just as they had originally expected. Edge had reached out to Harry to have him gather the humans in his rooms and to keep them in the castle. Harry had argued that he wanted to help. Edge declined. There was no doubt in Edge’s mind that this was an attempt to get at Draco. He needed Harry there to protect them should anything happen at the castle. Harry had reluctantly agreed.
Rosemerta had not been joking when she had informed them it was pack. Thankfully, most of the villagers had already been able to get behind closed and warded doors. Cobalt and Moony rushed forward taking on the half shifted wolves head on. Two rushed at Edge and met a swift end. He felt some remorse at having to kill shifted humans obviously not in their right minds but the beasts left him very little choice.
Edge!
Harry’s worried voice broke through his thoughts.
What’s wrong?
I can’t find Draco. I’ve reached out but he is not in the castle.
Edge felt his world stop. Draco wasn’t in the castle?
Grounds?
I’ve searched what I can but I can’t go further than Hagrids hut. He’s not in my search range.
That meant Draco was in the forest, but what for? What could have possibly possessed him to enter the forest without them? Edge felt panic spread throughout his entire body. He looked to the two wolves easily dispatching the pack in the village. What if this wasn’t a simple attack? The two wolves could handle this. But Cobalt had the better nose. He would be able to find Draco from further away and thus be able to get to him quicker. Decision made. He needed his little dragon, his mate, found and yesterday.
“Cobalt!” He called.
Cobalt threw the werewolf he had in his mouth to the side and trotted to him. Edge didn’t give him a chance to speak.
“Draco is not in the castle. He is most likely in the forest. Find him.”
Cobalt did not hesitant nor did he ask questions. He heard the plea in the voice behind the command. He understood the panic and fear in those blue eyes. Cobalt had seen it before; three months ago. He would not return empty handed this time.
Edge quickly helped Moony finish off the last of the wolves. They made a quick search of the village, checking in on everyone making sure all was okay. Thankfully, no one had been bitten, even if there were a few injuries. Edge took care of what he could, a few he still recommended a healer for. He did a quick check in with Rosemerta before collecting Moony, who had waited outside the pub, to join the search for Draco. Edge had yet to hear from Cobalt and it was not settling well. What was taking so long? Where was his dragon?
“Wait! Wait, please!”
Edge and Moony turned to face the woman calling out to them as she ran down the street.
“Please, help me. My children, I lost them in the ruckus. I’ve tried to find them but I can’t.” The woman was crying hysterically. “Please, I beg you.”
Moony looked at Edge. *I can…*
Edge shook his head. “It’s probably best I go. They are children and you are still a giant wolf as gentle as you are.”
*Are you sure?* Moony seemed nervous and kept eyeing the crying woman. Something wasn’t settling right with him in concerns with her. He relayed his feelings to Edge.
Edge nodded. “I agree but it’s a chance I’m not willing to take.” He felt it too but he could not risk children, not with werewolves running around. Plus he wanted to get this over with to search for Draco. “Join the search. I’ll catch up. Alert me to any changes.”
Moony took off out of the village while Edge began his search after reassuring the woman he’d find her kids. Neither looked back to see the grin spread over her face.
Edge circled the village twice before checking the outskirts. He could not find any trace of children. This was nothing but a wild goose chase. Edge cursed stopping on the hill that over looked the Shrieking Shake. Damn it. He was wasting time looking for non-existent children when he should be looking for Draco. Edge growled. The wind shifted. Edge stiffly turned around.
Three werewolves stalked out of the tree line. Edge cursed turning to lead them away from the village only to find four more encircling him from behind. Seven werewolves surrounded him on all sides. Another werewolf walked out behind the group surrounding him. Eight total. Fuck. Edge was good, but even this was going to be a fight. Most of them had dark or tawny fur. The one making its way into the circle, the obvious leader, was a rare white. The human was albino.
Something struck Edge as strange about these wolves. They were too aware, too organized. Their eyes were clear and he could see obvious thought behind them. They were nothing like the pack that had attacked the village. Edge glared at the ‘leader’ who chuckled at him.
“Wolfsbane. You are using Wolfsbane.” Edge growled.
*Yes, we are.* The white beast agreed his voice deep and gravely. He stood up on his gangly misshapen hind limbs. *How else could we even begin to gain the advantage over a vampire such as yourself otherwise?*
A trap. It was a fucking trap and he had fallen for it. This whole setup was a trap, from the attack on the village, to the woman frantically searching for her kids. “Where is Draco?”
A shrug. *Greyback is most likely having his fun with him as we speak.*
Edge rushed the werewolf but the wolf was fast and easily dodged him.
*Don’t get too riled up.* He laughed. *It was remarkably easy to trick him into coming out of the castle.*
“All this just to get to one human?”
*Oh, hardly. The little blonde was just a consolation prize, completely unexpected win. You were our target. Of course we knew we would have to separate you from those Guardian wolves. Turned out it was easier than we expected. Shameful really.*
Edge felt anger flow through him. Worse, he felt anger at himself. He should have listened to his own instincts instead of rushing things. Moony had even tried to warn him but he had brushed him off as well. All because of his worry for Draco and now he would be dead by the end of the night and Draco…he didn’t even want to think of the fate that awaited his precious dragon. Edge was not stupid. Even with him being a vampire, he was no match for eight against one.
*Giving up already?*
Edge growled. His fangs grew in and his eyes turned gold. “Not on your life.” He would be damned if he did not go down fighting.
All eight jumped him at once. He dodged the best he could, he took one out, but two others managed to get teeth into him. Edge cried out as they pinned him. He snarled a racked his claws across the face of the one holding his arm. It howled as it let him go to regroup. The wolf that held his leg proceeded to toss him into the air like he was a throw pillow. Before he could get his bearings he was once again grabbed and thrown hard into a nearby tree. The force of impact took the air out of his lungs and the tree groaned and cracked. Edge tumbled to the ground coughing blood from his damaged lungs. He could do nothing to resist when he was picked up. Four of the wolves held him upright, one on each limb.
*Perhaps you shouldn’t have healed all those people. You might have lasted longer.*
Edge glared at the white wolf as he walked up. He coughed more. The wolf was right, of course, and it only angered him further, but he was unable to break free. Two more wolves came to help hold him still. He watched as the last one handed a large stick to the leader. The white wolf took to using his claws to sharpen one end.
Edge tried to struggle but the wolves held him firm. When he wouldn’t stop they bit into him. Their teeth ripped into his skin and he could not contain the cry of pain.
*This should do nicely.*
The white werewolf grinned through his wolf-like snout showing off his jagged teeth. He prepared to throw the makeshift spear. Edge closed his eyes. He braced himself for the sharp tear of impact…that never came. He had heard the squelch and thud of the impact. He could smell the blood…but it wasn’t his. Edge threw his eyes open. No. No! NO!
Edge watched the image of Dante falling to his knees in front of him, horrified. The stake protruded from his back morbidly. Blood soaked his shirt and ran down his back. Edge shook, his eyes wide in disbelief as everything seemed to move in slow motion. Dante fell to the side with a grunt and blood flowed from his mouth. Edge struggled with new force. No, no, no, this couldn’t be happening. Edge paid no mind when he was suddenly let go. He did not hear the werewolves howling out in pain clutching their heads nor did he see them run off back into the forest. He did not notice a few collapsing, dead, before they could even make the tree line. His focus was completely on Dante.
Edge gathered his Sire up. “Please, please, no. Talk to me. Please.” He was begging and did not care. Tears streamed down his cheeks as blood coated him. He took notice of the position of the wood impaled through Dante’s chest. Maybe he could…it wasn’t center…he had to…
A hand grabbed his just as Edge rested his hand around the stake. “Don’t… you… dare.” Dante coughed out as more blood escaped him.
“But…”
Dante shook his head painfully slow. “It’s…okay.”
“No, it’s not okay. I can heal…”
“No.” Dante said firmly before breaking into harsh coughs.
Edge held him close. How was this okay? Nothing about this was okay. Dante was literally dying in his arms. He was going to lose him too. He couldn’t breathe. Edge choked on his tears as Dante painfully lifted a hand to cup his cheek.
“I… don’t have long. I…There’s so much…”
“Stop.” Edge pleaded. “Don’t, save your strength.”
Dante’s hand began to shake. There was no color left in his cheeks. His eyelids started to flutter over brown irises. “The house… yours…accept him…”
The colorless hand fell limp from Edge’s face. The already much too cold body held no more life. Edge gasped for air and held Dante tighter to him. No. How could this be? Edge stared unseeing as Dante’s body collapsed into dust that coated his arms and legs. Tears fell unfelt. Edge felt cold and numb.
*Edge! Edge!*
He looked up to see Cobalt run into the clearing and skid to a stop. The dark wolf looked around in shock. He took a couple slow steps taking in the surroundings. There were obvious signs of a struggle. Cobalt noticed the bodies of the deceased werewolves still lying where they had dropped; there was no outward sign to show why they were dead to begin with, but blood leaked from their ears. He could smell that Dante was there, smell his blood in the air, but he could not find the vampire.
*What the bloody hell…?*
Edge blinked at Cobalt as the wolf looked around before settling his bright blue eyes on him. Those eyes narrowed in concern as they took in his blood and dirt covered form. A pale colored dust covered half of him. The sight made Cobalt uncomfortable.
*Edge? What happened?*
He had sent Cobalt on a job. Edge blinked. The wolf was alone. Why? Edge felt like he might faint.
“Draco?”
*I found him. Moony has taken him back to the castle to the hospital wing.*
He was found. Good. The hospital wing? That meant Draco was hurt. His mind was slow to register the hesitance in the voice, the sadness.
“What happened?” Edge demanded.
Cobalt shifted uncomfortably. *He had been found by Greyback. I got to him just in time. There isn’t much left of Greyback.*
“Draco?” Edge stood on shaking limbs. He could care less about Greyback. Yes, glad the wolf was kibble. How bad was his dragon?
Cobalt hesitated. Edge growled low and deep making the wolf flinch.
“Don’t make me ask again.”
Cobalt lowered his head in submission but it did little to appease Edge. *He…he’s been bitten.*
Edge swayed. He clenched his eyes shut as more of his world crashed and crumbled around him. Edge forcibly shook himself before flitting away toward the castle. He had to get to Draco. He had to see his dragon for himself. His only thoughts were getting to his dragon.
Cobalt took one unsure look at the scene he walked into, before turning and following the vampire. There were so many questions; questions that would have to wait.
Minutes passed. A small fox made its way slowly into the clearing. It paused by the thin layer of dust left on the ground. It sat with its head bowed and eyes closed. Silence. The wind blew, rustling the trees, and taking the dust with it. Still the fox did not move. Clouds shifted and the full moon shone over the fox highlighting its odd coloring. A spark of the moons reflection bounced off a small silver bangle on the fox’s right wrist.
