In case you forgot...Marissa was introduced as an ex girlfriend of Lucius in Chapter 5.
Now...what does she want? Why is she back from America? What will Lucius do?
Thank you so much for allllll of your reviews, they make me smile.
Ginny gaped in shock and disbelief as Lucius' former lover smoothly cut in on their dance.
"You don't mind do you, Honey?" She smiled down at Ginny as if she were a child.
Shock and over 45 years of a well mannered, aristocratic upbringing, had Lucius dancing with Marissa before he'd even registered what had happened.
Ginny turned on her heel, but not before she heard Marissa voice ask. "Is that one of Draco's little friends?"
Rage and heartbreak filled Ginny's eyes with tears as she stormed off the dance floor and headed for the nearest exit,
"Ginny what's wrong?" Hermione called out as her friend rushed passed, red faced and clearly upset. "What happened?" Hermione glanced up at Severus. "Where's Lucius?"
Severus looked quickly around the dance floor until he spotted Lucius and his new dance partner. "Oh Merlin." He muttered. "It's Marissa."
"His old girlfriend?" Hermione's eyes widened with shock. "From America."
"The very same." Severus frowned. "Go to Ginny." He said, releasing Hermione's hands as she turned and ran after her friend.
Hermione left the ballroom and looked up and down the ministry corridor, she saw a flash of red hair rounding the corner and heading towards the floos.
"Ginny wait!" She yelled, running down the hall. She was panting by the time she caught up with her. "Don't leave." She gasped.
"Why not?" Ginny turned, her face red and wet with tears. "Didn't you see? Didn't you see her? It's over. I'm done."
"No Ginny. It's not over. Lucius cares about you. He said he was falling in love with you."
"Yeah. Falling." Ginny said disgusted. "But not 'in'. He's in love with Marissa."
"You don't know that. You don't know he still loves her. How long has it been since he's seen her?"
"It doesn't matter." Ginny shrieked. "Don't you get it Hermione? They didn't split up because he stopped loving her, they split up because he wanted to protect her, wanted to save her from Lord Voldemort. Well Voldemort's gone and Narcissa's gone now too. There's no reason they can't be together and live happily ever after." She broke down sobbing, her hands covering her face.
"Ginny don't." Hermione reached to hug her, but she stepped out of reach.
"I'm going home now." Ginny said, her voice flat and lifeless. "Enjoy the rest of the ball." She stepped into the floo and disappeared in a flash of green.

"Lucius?" Marissa laughed at the look of shock on his face and his stunned silence. "Didn't you hear me? Is that Draco's girlfriend you were dancing with?"
Her voice broke through Lucius' stupor at the shock of seeing her after all these years. "No." He said deeply. "She's mine."
"What?" She gasped, throwing her head back and laughing musically. "She's a child."
"She is 20." Lucius frowned. "What are you doing here?"
"Well straight to the point. That's not like you. My company is opening a branch in London and I'm thinking of transferring back here. I've missed you Lucius. I want you back."
Lucius remained silent as a myriad of emotions rushed through him.
"Lucius? Did you hear what I said? I'm thinking about returning to London. We can be together again."
Clearing his throat, Lucius spoke slowly. "Things are different Marissa. I am different."
"Well I'd heard you and Narcissa had finally divorced. I was going to contact you then, but I thought you might need a little time."
"You probably shouldn't have waited." He sighed heavily. "As I have said, things are different. I am different. I am no longer the same man I was when we were together."
"What are you saying Lucius?"
"I am saying that I am involved. I am happy."
"What?" Marissa laughed bitterly. "With that little girl?"
"She is not a little girl." Lucius gritted his teeth, he could feel himself becoming angry. "She is a wonderful woman and I think I am truly in love for the first time in my life."
"But what about us? What about all our time together?"
"I am very sorry, Marissa. This isn't meant to hurt you. But I never thought I would see you again. I've moved on. I assumed you would have done the same."
"You arrogant prick bastard." She hissed, stepping from his arms and hitting him squarely on the chest.

"Oh bugger." Severus moaned as he watched Marissa strike Lucius, her face angry and upset.
"Stay here." He whispered to Hermione, turning to walk out onto the dance floor.
"What are you going to do?" Hermione called after him.
"I don't know."
"Marissa." He said, walking up to the couple on the dance floor, his hand held out graciously. "What a surprise it is to see you. Please dance with me." He took both her hands in his; turning to his friend he spoke calmly. "Lucius, Hermione needs to speak with you. It seems we have a bit of a situation."
"Ginny." Lucius gasped, glancing around the room and not finding the beautiful redhead. He rushed off the dance floor, heading to where Hermione stood.
Severus held tightly to Marissa's hands as she turned to chase after Lucius. "Come now Marissa. Let's not make a scene. You are far to refined for that type of thing." He pulled her into his arms and began to dance.
"But I still love him Severus." She said sadly.
"And for that I am very, very sorry." Severus said, understanding and concern in his voice. "But he is happy. Happier then I have ever seen him in his life. If you care anything about him at all, you will go home and try to move on."
"He does seem different." She sighed. "You seem different too. What happened to the dour, solemn man I used to know?"
"He has moved on from the past and fallen deeply in love with someone who loves him too." Severus smiled sadly down at her. "And I think you should do the same thing."

"Where's Ginny?" Lucius gasped, rushing up to Hermione.
"She floo'd home. In tears."
"What? Why?"
"She said that now that Marissa is back, you wouldn't want her anymore. She said that you didn't stop seeing her because you stopped loving her, you only sent her away to protect her from Voldemort." Hermione glared at him. "You did just let her cut in without a second glance at Ginny."
"Oh Merlin. What have I done." Lucius ran his hands across his face. "I was so shocked at seeing her after all these years I wasn't thinking straight. I have to go find Ginny." He turned and ran into the hallway, with Hermione close on his heels. When he reached the floo he stepped inside and called out the address, the light flashed green but he remained in the Ministries fireplace.
"No." He groaned, grabbing more powder and calling out his destination again. Again the green light flashed, but he remained in place.
"What's happening" Hermione asked.
"She's warded the floo against me and blocked me out. I'll apparate." Spinning on his heel, he vanished only to reappear a moment later.
"No." He yelled in frustration, turning again only to end up right back where he started.
"What's happening?" Severus asked, running up with Draco and Harry on his heels. He watched as Lucius continued to try to apparate to Ginny, only to return each time.
"Lucius. Stop." He yelled, grabbing his friend by the shoulders.
"She's blocked me out Severus." Lucius said frantically, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I have to talk to her. I have to explain."
"What have you done?" Draco demanded, staring at his father an accusing look in his eye.
"Nothing. It is all just a misunderstanding." Severus said, looking around at the small gathering. "Marissa was here."
"What?" Draco gasped.
"She wants us to get back together." Lucius said, hanging his head sadly.
"And I've spoken to her." Severus said firmly, holding his hand up to Draco, silencing him. "And she is hurt, but has it agreed it would be best for her to remain in America."
Lucius raised his head, his cheeks now wet with tears and smiled gratefully at his old friend. "I have to get to Ginny. I have to tell her how I feel. But she's put up wards against me."
"I'll go." Harry said, stepping towards the floo. "I'll talk to her."
Severus laid his hand on Harry's shoulder. "With all due respect Mr. Potter, I do not think that you are the best person to talk to her at this moment. Given your past relationship. If anyone can understand and relate to what she is feeling right now," He cleared his throat, "it is me. With your permission Lucius?"
The blonde wizard nodded his head wearily. "Draco, Harry, go back to the ball. Make our apologies to the others. There is no reason for all of us to leave. Everything will be fine. It's just a misunderstanding." The despair in his voice said he really didn't believe what he was saying.
"You'd better take care of her." Harry glared at Severus, before turning and heading back to the Ballroom. Draco shook his head sadly at his father and then followed his lover back to the party.
"Hermione. Please go with Lucius back to the Manor. I'll be there shortly." He stepped in to the floo and disappeared in a flash of green light.
Lucius stood staring after Severus, his eyes haunted and lost.
"Come on, Lucius." Hermione said softly, placing her hand on his forearm. "Let's get you home. Everything's going to be fine."
He nodded and stepped into floo.
"Let's go into my study." He said, when Hermione stepped from the fireplace into the foyer. "I could use a drink."

Ginny lay across her bed, sobbing. The moment she had arrived home she had drawn her wand, slashing it violently through the air and muttering incantations. When she was sure she had securely warded the home against Lucius Malfoy, she ran to her bedroom, ripping the elegant gown from her body. With tears streaming down her face, she removed the necklace and earrings and threw them on top of gown. Moving slowly through her room to the bathroom, she washed her face and pulled on a t shirt and a pair of shorts.
Now, lying on her bed, she curled herself in a tight little ball, her arms crossed across her midsection. She never knew anything could hurt this much, could leave her feeling this empty inside. The image of Lucius and the elegant black haired woman, naked and writhing together invaded her mind, bringing forth a new wave of tears. She didn't think she was strong enough to bear this much pain, this much heart break. She lifted her head when she heard a soft tap on the door.
"Go away." She yelled. "I just want to be alone."
She sat up in surprise when the deep baritone voice of Severus Snape answered her through the door.
"It's Severus. I would like to speak with you. May I come in?"
