Poor Ginny's heart is breaking. Let's see if Severus can't help set her straight.
Keep reviewing, I love each and every one of them.
Ginny wiped her hand across her face and watched as her door slowly opened and the large figure of Severus Snape stepped inside.
"May I come in?" He asked softly.
She nodded her head and swiped at the tears still coursing down her face.
The dark Potions Master stepped cautiously into the room and looked around. Glancing down he saw her elegant gown and the diamond jewelry tossed in a pile on the floor.
"Here now." He said, stooping down and picking up the necklace and earrings. "This is no way to treat a gift. I'm sure Lucius paid several hundred galleons for these." He placed them carefully on the desk, then picked up her gown and draped it across the chair, smoothing out the wrinkles with his hand.
"Is that why you're here?" Ginny asked bitterly, struggling to hold back her sobs. "For the jewelry? I'm sure she will love it. I've only worn it one...one...once..." Her voice cracked as she covered her face and sobbed pitifully.
She felt a weight on her bed as he sat down next to her. "Come here." He said, pulling her into his arms. She wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her face on his shoulder, her body shaking as she cried.
"Shhhhhh." He said, rubbing her hair and her back soothingly.
Ginny had no idea how long she cried on his shoulder. It seemed like hours, She pulled back, feeling numb and somewhat empty inside. "Sorry about your beautiful robes. I got them all wet."
"No matter. They'll dry." He said, brushing at his damp shoulder. He reached inside his pocket and handed her a handkerchief. "Do you think you can talk to me now?"
"Thanks." She whispered, wiping at her eyes. "Why are you here?" She gazed curiously up at him.
"Because I know what it feels like to think you have lost the love of your life."
Fresh tears coursed down Ginny's face. "I've lost him haven't I?" She flopped down onto her side, the handkerchief pressed to her face.
"Ginny. I need you to listen to me." Firm hands pulled her arms away from her face. Severus lay on his side facing her. He reached up and brushed her hair away from her face. "He loves you. You haven't lost anything."
"But Marissa? He just pushed me away and danced off with her. He didn't even look back."
"Yes. Well." Snape cleared his throat. "He's an idiot. When Lucius is faced with an emotional situation that he doesn't know how to handle he reverts back to all his aristocratic manners and etiquette training. I can assure you, he is at the Manor right now, worried sick and pacing back and forth.
"But Marissa?" She wrinkled up her nose when she said the name.
"Well be returning to America in a few days time. For good."
"But he loves her."
"Perhaps. Once. He's in love with you now." Severus stared pointedly into her eyes. "You have to believe me. He has changed for the better since you've come into his life. He is happy, truly happy for the first time."
"I don't understand." Ginny shook her head, her brows wrinkled in confusion.
"There is nothing to understand." He said, reaching out to hold her hand. "Marissa is his past. You are his future. Just as Hermione is my future."
"He loves me." Ginny said, almost to herself.
"Yes. He does." Severus agreed.
Ginny shook her head in denial, unable to believe what he was telling her.
"Ginny." He said sternly. "You must believe me. You have changed his life. I have never seen him this happy."
"Really?"
"Really."
"Thank you Professor." Ginny sighed, squeezing his hand.
"Severus." He said, with a small smirk. "We've seen each other naked. I'm quite sure we are on a first name basis now."
"Alright, Severus." Ginny smiled. "Can I ask you something?"
"I suppose."
"Why did you call Lily a 'mudblood' all those years ago?"
"Merlin." He sighed, turning his face away to stare up at the ceiling. "Is there no end to my mortification over that incident?" He turned back to look at her. "Because, Ginny, I am an idiot. Lucius hides behind etiquette when he's emotionally uncomfortable and I lash out at the people who care about me. Often very cruelly and brutally."
"She was just trying to stick up for you."
"I realize that, but at the time, all it did was compound my humiliation. I was a teenaged boy being protected by a girl." He shuddered a little. "I still hate remembering that day. My skinny body, those horrible pants on display for everyone to see, for her to see. We were so poor." He closed his eyes for a moment, before opening them again. "I know you can understand that, second hand and hand me down clothes?"
She nodded her head, knowing all too well what it was like to be poor.
"Well my parents didn't even bother to buy me pants." He smirked and shook his head ruefully. "The first four years at Hogwarts I just went bare arsed under my school robes. But after my fifth year," he blushed a little, "things grew and it became..."
"Uncomfortable to free ball it." She finished for him. "Six brothers, remember?" She said in answer to his questioning gaze.
"Of course." He chuckled. "Yes, it became very uncomfortable, so I nicked some of my father's pants before returning to school."
"That's awful." Ginny gasped. "No matter how poor we were we all always got new undergarments."
"Well I didn't." He frowned sadly. "So when he cast that spell and I knew what was going to happen." He shuddered again. "Everyone would see those dingy, nasty, ripped pants and my scrawny horrible body, I guess I just snapped and I lashed out at the one person who cared for me. I regretted it the moment those words were out of my mouth. But it was too late."
"And she never forgave you?"
"No." He shook his head sadly.
"Well that's just not right. She should have forgiven you." Ginny said firmly. "Hermione would never do that to you. I would never do that to you. And as for being embarrassed about your body." She flushed. "You have no reason to be now."
"Well I thank you for saying that, but I am no Lucius."
"You don't need to be. You are attractive and sexy all on your own."
"Hermione seems to think so, that's all that really matters to me." He said, avoiding her gaze shyly. "And speaking of Hermione. I think it's time we go rescue her from very distraught Lucius."
"You really love him, don't you." Ginny asked, moving into a sitting position as Severus climbed off of the bed, smoothing his dress robes.
He stared down at her, silent for what seemed like a very long time before answering. "I do. Now come along." He held out his hand to hers.

"What's taking so long." Lucius asked, for what seemed like the thousandth time. His long legs carried him back and forth across his study, pacing furiously.
"I don't know." Hermione shrugged helplessly from her place on the couch. She suspected he had long since forgotten she was even there.
"How could I have fucked up so badly?" He muttered to himself as he passed by. "Why is it that just when I think everything is going perfect, it all goes pear shaped?" He stopped pacing and turned to face Hermione, running his fingers through his hair. "What am I going to do without her, Hermione? I love her."
"Oh Lucius." Hermione sighed, watching as the tears streamed down his face. "Come here." She held out her arms to him and he fell into them, no longer trying to stop himself for crying. "It's going to be alright, I promise." She whispered soothingly, hugging him tightly to her.
He clung to her, crying, his heart breaking.
"I'm sorry." He said, pulling away from her and wiping his hand across his face. "I did not mean to break down like that. I apologize."
"It's okay." Hermione said, gently patting his hand. "Would you like me to get you a drink?"
He nodded his head. "That would be nice. Thank you."
Hermione rose and walked to the sideboard, pouring him a double shot of whiskey. She returned to the couch and handed it to him, taking her place next to him again,
"Thank you." He whispered, taking a long drink. "I never thought I could care so much about another person." He said, staring down into his drink.
Hermione sighed and reached over to pat his leg, her hand froze in mid motion as she heard a sound from the other room. "Did you hear something?" She asked, turning to Lucius.
He stood and placed his drink on the side table. "Ginny." He whispered as Severus slid open the study doors and stepped inside. "Ginny." He cried out when she stepped from behind Severus' large form.
"Lucius!" She gasped, pushing past Severus to meet him in the middle of the room.
They clung to each other, crying and whispering words of regret and apology.
"…..so sorry."
"...can't bear losing you."
"...love you so much."
Severus met Hermione gaze over the weeping couple. He smiled and nodded his head to her. Hermione rose silently from the couch and moved across the room towards him. She placed her tiny hand in his large one and he led her from the study, across the foyer to the floo.
"Oh Ginny." Lucius kissed the side of her head and across her face. "I couldn't bear it if I lost you."
"I thought you wouldn't want me anymore." Ginny sobbed, tangling her fingers in his hair.
"How could I not want you, how could I ever not want you." He pressed his lips to her cheeks.
"I don't know." She sniffed, turning her head to look towards the door "Thank you Sev..." She frowned, looking around the room in confusion. "Where are they?" Noticing that Hermione was gone too.
"I guess they went home." Lucius said, lifting her up and hugging her tightly. "And now I'm going to take you to my room and show you exactly how much you mean to me."
Ginny clung tightly to him as he spun on his heel, apparating them to his bedroom. He pressed his lips to hers, kissing her passionately as he carefully lowered her to the bed. She sighed at the wonderful feeling of him on top of her.
"Don't ever leave me like that again Ginny. I couldn't bear it." He hugged her tightly and vanished their clothes, needing to be as close to her as he could. Rising up on his arms, he stared down at her, an intense look on his face.
"What? What's wrong?"
"Nothing." He said shaking his head. "I love you."
"Oh. Why do you look so serious then?"
"I never expected to."
She stared up him, the confusion clear on her face.
"When we made this arrangement." He explained. "I never thought I'd fall in love with you."
"What did you expect?" She asked, running her hands down his broad back.
"Oh, that we'd have a lot of fun shagging. That you might turn out to be an interesting and fun dinner companion. I never thought about falling in love."
So is it a good thing or a bad thing?"
"It's a wondrous thing." He said, pressing his lips tenderly to hers. "I love you Ginny Weasley."
