They found the men lying huddled, trying desperately to keep one another, especially Sirius, warm. Tears fell freely from Hermione’s eyes as she watched Harry Apparate away with his godfather. With luck, Sirius won’t die.
Ron looked at the other three men and did his best to school his features from a look of disgust, but none of the men paid him any mind. Unable to handle it anymore, he conjured clothing for the men and even managed to help them, with his eyes closed, to get dressed. “Harry and I collected your wands from your homes. Once he returns, we’ll give them to you,” he told them.Lucius wrapped his arms around Hermione and held her close, burying his face in her bushy hair. “I’m so glad you made it safely,” he whispered into her ear. “I don’t know what we would’ve done…”She nodded into his chest and gently pulled away from him just enough so she could look up into his silver blue eyes. “I really hope I made it in time,” she said, thinking of the Animagus.“Did you catch Zabini?” Draco asked as he zipped up his pants.Hermione frowned. “We… did. Ginny currently has him in a secured facility.”He breathed a sigh of relief. “Good. When I get my wand back, I would like the honors of hexing his balls off!” he commented as he grabbed a shirt from the pile of clothing.Ron smirked, but said nothing as he watched the three men dress.“I plan on pressing charges on both Zabini and Narcissa,” Severus said as he buttoned up his shirt. He groaned when he noticed the patch that had been sewn into the upper left corner of the shirt and glared at Ron. “You are not amusing, Mr. Weasley.”The red haired man snorted in his attempt to hold back his laughter. Draco’s eyes widened when he looked at Severus before looking down at himself. “Fuck Zabini!” he snarled before lunging at Ron. “I’m going to fucking hex you, Weaslebreath!”Being the only one wearing shoes, Ron was easily able to dodge the young Slytherin’s attack. Hermione glanced up and raised an eyebrow. With a flick of her wrist, the Gryffindor emblems that had graced the men’s shirts disappeared. She gave the red head a disapproving glare.“Aw! Come on, Hermione!” he protested as he dodged another attempted strike from Draco. “It was just a joke!”“Ronald Weasley,” the witch chided, “grow up.”A soft growl drew their attention as all five of them looked to Remus. Hermione watched in momentary fascination as the werewolf began moving. She lifted her wand and pushed Lucius behind her as Ron moved to stand beside her, his wand also raised. For a moment, there was complete silence as Remus glanced around, trying to get his bearings. The hovering spell had been released from him at some point when Harry had left and Ron had conjured clothing. He sniffed at the air and looked at the people standing before him. His eyes fell upon Hermione and focused upon her. He gave a low growl, his lips pulling up to show his teeth as he took a step forward.“Stupify!” Ron shouted, sending a blast of magical energy at the werewolf. The spell bounced off the creature and Remus gave an even bigger growl, snapping at Ron in annoyance as he kept his focus on Hermione. The witch did not move as the wolf took another step towards her.Ron pulled his wand back to release yet another spell, but Draco stopped him. “It doesn’t work, Weasley,” he hissed. “You’ll only anger him more.”Ron turned to stare at the blond haired wizard. “He’s a werewolf, Malfoy,” he sneered. “If he gets too close to Hermione, he could bite her and infect her.”Severus moved to stand next to the red head. “Give me your wand, Mr. Weasley,” he commanded, staring at the wolf.“Are you mad?” Ron protested, the idea of giving his wand to the Potions Master both frightened and worried him. After all, Severus was an ex Death Eater.“Do as I say so we can go home,” the man snapped, not really having the patience for the young Gryffindor.Lucius exchanged a glance at Severus and with a slight nod of his head, stepped closer to Hermione and pressed his head against hers softly. “May I borrow your wand for a moment, my pet?” he purred in her ear. “I will give it back.”Hermione had lowered her wand to her side and released it as Lucius took it from her. “Don’t hurt him,” she whispered, though she had a feeling that wasn’t in the Malfoy patron’s mind.“Like the old days, Severus?” Lucius asked as he stood beside the witch. Remus’s growl deepened. The Potions Master nodded. “Like the old days,” he confirmed as the werewolf launched into an attack.Lucius shoved Hermione behind and away from him as he and Severus began firing spells at the beast. Frightened at the display, Hermione took a few steps back until Draco wrapped his arms around her. Ron growled and shouted obscenities at the two wizards. It took a great amount of effort for Lucius and Severus to subdue the werewolf, but together they managed it. Both wizards were panting from the effort. Glancing up at the moon, Lucius cast a quick spell to determine the time.“The sun should be rising soon,” he said, looking at Severus. The taller wizard nodded and wiped his brow with the back of his hand before looking at the werewolf. He gave a short snort at Remus’s prone form. “He’ll never forgive us, you know.”Somehow, not only had they managed to knock him out, but they had hogtied him. Lucius shrugged as he waved the wand over the creature, conjuring clothing. “It matters not, does it? Once the sun comes up, he’ll be back to form. Who knows? He might even thank us.” He turned then and looked at the three younger people.Walking up to Hermione, he handed her back her wand. “Thank you for allowing me to borrow this,” he said to her.As she took the wand from him, he clasped her hand and drew her from his son’s arms and into his own. Something changed in the four former victims as Hermione glanced up at the older wizard. For some unknown reason, tears prickled her eyes. “What happens now?” she asked. He said nothing as he gently pushed a few strands of hair out of her eyes. At that moment, Harry arrived back with wands and bottles of water. The men accepted their wands happily and Draco waved his over his body to transfigure his clothing into something that was more his style.“You don’t know how good it is to have my wand back, Potter,” the young blond said. “Remind me to thank you at some point.”Harry gave a nod and looked at the werewolf who was still sleeping. “I managed to get Sirius to St. Mungo’s right on time. The Healers are doing everything they can to heal his arm, but they still aren’t sure he’ll be able to keep it. My guess is that either Remus threw him into the devil’s snare or Remus did it himself, but either way, Sirius’s hand is crushed. And between his blood loss and the cold, he was starting to suffer from hypothermia.”He turned his attention to the men. “Which reminds me. We need to get all of you to the hospital soon. There’s a chance all of you could have gotten it as well. Why didn’t any of you stay in the house?”“Did you see the devil’s snare, Potter? Had we stayed, Sirius isn’t the only one who would have been harmed by it,” Severus snarked before taking a deep pull from his water bottle. “Not to mention, just in case you’ve forgotten, we had a werewolf to contend with and no wands. What did you expect us to do?”The young wizard pushed his glasses up. Looking to Hermione, he knew there wasn’t much he could say to counter the older wizard’s words. “Let’s get you lot to St. Mungo’s, then. You all need to be checked.”“I still want to hex Zabini in the face,” Draco commented as he watched Hermione take a step out of his father’s embrace. The young witch sighed. “We all do, Draco,” she said. She looked at him sadly and pressed the palm of her hand against his cheek. He frowned. “What of my mother? Has she been caught as well? I seriously need to have a talk with her. And my aunt, too.”The sadness in Hermione’s eyes deepened and she glanced up at Lucius. The older wizard said nothing, but gave her a slight nod of his head in understanding. Hermione closed her eyes and shook her head. Taking a step up to Draco, she rested her forehead against his chest. “There’s something you should know,” she whispered to him.The young Slytherin had seen the exchange between his father and the witch. His confusion was amplified when Hermione came even closer to him. He lifted a hand and rubbed it along her back before she pulled away from him and looked up into his misty grey eyes.“Zabini and I fought,” she told him, “in a furniture store. We were throwing hexes at one another, myself, I was trying to disarm and subdue him. I should have gone to the Aurors instead of confronting him myself, but I was so angry at him for what he had done to us. He… He shot Killing Curses at me.” Her words became hurried as she tried to get them out. “He tried to distract me by throwing Narcissa at me and firing the first one… There was nothing I could do.”The young Slytherin stared at the witch for a while as he digested the words she spoke. “My mother is dead?” he asked.Hermione nodded and he stepped away from her in shock. Regardless of what they had been through for the past few months at the hands of Blaise Zabini and Narcissa, Draco had never wanted her dead. At the end of the day, she was still his mother. His throat ran dry as he thought of all the things he would never get to tell her now. He took another step back and, tripping over his own feet, practically fell into his father’s waiting arms. But Lucius did not coddle him or even hug him. The older man simply helped his offspring to right himself and waited for Draco to say or do something. The sky began to light up as the group kept their moment of silence a bit longer. Slowly, Remus transformed from a werewolf into a man. There were marks on his body, scabbed over bites and scratches, giving evidence to the fight he and Sirius had had hours before.“What are we waiting for?” Ron finally voiced, breaking the tension. “You lot need to get to St. Mungo’s and Harry and I need to return to the Ministry to make sure Zabini gets booked. We’ll bring more Aurors to that house and take care of the devil’s snare, as well as collect all the evidence we can from that site.”They all looked at the red head silently as Remus began to stir. “Padfoot?” the werewolf whispered as he attempted to clutch at his forehead. Unable to move, his eyes shot open to see that he was restrained. “What the bloody hell?”Hermione shook her head, bringing herself out of her daze and quickly went to Remus, helping him out of the ropes. She did not explain anything to him, and in all honesty, she didn’t need to. He knew what had happened the moment he looked into her face. Solemnly, he asked, “Is he alright?”“He’s alive, Remus,” Harry answered. “And Ron’s right. We need to get all of you back.”Just then, the Greek Aurors showed up followed shortly by the Bulgarian Aurors. Hermione and the men were torn away from one another in the sudden excitement and confusion. She glanced over at the three Slytherins and met the cool silver of Lucius’s eyes before she felt a thick blanket drape over her shoulders. As Hermione Disapparated to St. Mungo’s, there was a relief in her shoulders and mind that hadn’t been there before. It was finally over.Author's Note: Don't get your knickers in a twist, guys. There's still the epilogue. But, I do have a question for you all whilst I write the epilogue. Just whom do you think will end up with whom? Will they all stay together or will they grow apart? Of course, I already know the answer to these questions, but I'm curious to see how many of you will get it correct.
It has been a wonderful journey. Again, I apologize for taking so long to complete it. I'm glad I managed to keep all of you riveted to your seats. (Also glad y'all got my humour even at times when I wasn't trying to be funny. Accidental humour always seems to be more humorous to me for some odd reason. Lol!)
