Chapter 39: Plans

The Next Morning:

Marcus stirred and opened his bleary eyes and watched as Katie slept. They had stayed up late discussing how and when to tell their parents. Marcus sighed. He needed to tell his father when they were alone. Katie said that they should tell all their parents at the same time. But Marcus disagreed. His father was the key to maintaining control of the situation. He wondered if they could find out if the baby was a boy or a girl today. A boy would stifle any objections his father had. In fact, his old man would be thrilled to bits.

Marcus reached over and touched Katie’s face and smiled. He didn’t care if the baby was a boy or a girl. A girl would be nice though - a girl that looked like Katie.

Katie opened her eyes to see Marcus looking at her with an odd tender look on his face.

“What is it?” asked Katie sleepily.

“I never asked you,” said Marcus. “Do you think the baby is a boy or a girl?”

“I don’t know,” said Katie as she stretched. “I haven’t really thought about it. It took all my energy just to accept that the baby is real.”

“A girl would be nice,” said Marcus thoughtfully.

“I thought all men wanted boys.”

“I don’t care,” said Marcus as he nuzzled Katie’s throat. “As long as the- what is it Katie?”

“I don’t know,” said a suddenly pale Katie. “I feel dizzy.”

Marcus shifted up in the bed. He jumped as Katie threw open the bed curtains and lurched to her feet.

“Merlin Bell,” yelped Terry as he clutched his robe in front of his nude body.

Katie rushed into the bathroom without saying a word. Marcus could hear her retching. He winced in sympathy as he got out of bed.

“Terry,” said Adrian’s languid voice from his bed. “Did you drink tequila again? You know you always get sick after drinking that vile stuff.”

“It’s not me,” said Terry as he shrugged his robe on. “It’s Bell.”

“Bell?” said Adrian lazily. “I didn’t know she drank tequila.”

“It’s not tequila,” said Marcus lightly as he opened the door to the bathroom and saw Katie lying on the ground. He held her hair away from her face as she got sick again. Many minutes later, a pale and sick looking Katie got unsteadily to her feet and rinsed out her mouth.

“Take a shower love,” said Marcus. “I’ll get your clothes together.”

“Marcus,” said Terry carefully. “What was that all about?”

“Yes,” agreed Adrian. His clever eyes stared into Marcus’s own.

“She’s not feeling well,” said Marcus neutrally.

“I have this crazy thought going through my head right now,” said Adrian as he looked at his fingernails.

“I think I am having that same crazy thought,” said Terry.

“Fucking hell,” thought Marcus. “There are times that I wish my roommates weren’t so damn clever. A Gryffindor would have taken my statement at face value. Damn that stupidly informative lecture.”

“I wonder if she is getting ill in the mornings all the time,” asked Terry with a bland expression.

“Yes,” said Marcus with a glare at his roommates. “The answer is yes.” Terrence and Adrian gasped then looked at each other. Marcus was answering their unspoken question.

“Well then,” said Adrian briskly. “Congratulations Marcus on continuing your family line.”

“What?” said Marcus with a confused look.

“Yes,” agreed Terry with a smile.

“You both do not look surprised,” said Marcus with a suspicious look. “I mean, hell, I was surprised, shocked actually.”

“You were going to marry Bell anyway,” said Adrian.

“What do you mean by that,” asked Katie as she came out of the bathroom. Her face was pale but composed. She had obviously heard the entire conversation.

“It was obvious to anyone that Marcus was going to marry you eventually Bell,” said Terry.

“It was?” asked Katie ruefully.

“I’m sure Marcus didn’t either,” said Adrian.

“What do you mean?” asked Marcus with a frown.

“Marcus, you have been mad for Bell since last year,” said Terry with a mischievous look. “But you were in deep denial.”

“All you needed was a push,” said Adrian with a grin at Terry.

Marcus looked confused for a second then his face flooded with a look of comprehension.

“You two bloody bastards,” said Marcus with feeling.

Katie looked at Marcus in confusion. Marcus went over and held Katie’s hand.

“Katie,” said Marcus lowly. “You know I love you right?”

“Yes,” said Katie.

“Didn’t you find it curious that Wood wanted to hold a practice on a Saturday night,” said Marcus carefully.

“Strange but not out of character,” said Katie as she looked at Marcus with a strange look on her face.

“I sent you that note,” said Marcus carefully.

“Why?”

“I wanted to seduce you,” said Marcus. His cheeks went a little red and he continued. “The two gits are right. I was in deep denial about the huge crush I had on you. I even went out with a girl for a few weeks because she reminded me of you. When I heard the rumors about Diggory, it gave me hope that you were finally over that Scottish prat. Then Adrian goaded me into going after you.”

“You had a crush on me,” said Katie with a look of astonishment. “I had no idea.”

“You weren’t supposed to,” said Marcus ruefully.

“You used to pull my hair last year,” said Katie.

“Just my juvenile way of saying I fancied you,” said Marcus with a grin.

Marcus gave Adrian and Terry a long measured look that clearly said that there would be never any mention of the bet ever again. Both his mates gave him triumphant grins and proceeded to make themselves scarce.

Later that Night:

Katie gave a deep sigh. It was almost anti-climactic when the medi-witch told them what they already knew. She was pregnant.

Marcus had seen how tired she was after the trip into Hogsmeade and made her go back to the Tower for a long nap before dinner. When she woke up, she felt better and had more energy. After a light supper, she waited for Marcus in the entrance hall.

“My, my, my,” said a malicious voice. “If it isn’t Flint’s whore.”

Katie stiffened and turned to give Billy a glare of deepest loathing.

“I wonder, will true love continue to bloom now that the Quidditch final is looming closer?” said Billy with a sneer. “You know how competitive Flint is.”

“Such a sore loser,” said Katie loftily. “You couldn’t hold him Bletchley. But I could. It just kills you doesn’t it?”

“But for how long can you keep him?” said Billy softly. She leaned in and whispered to Katie. “I heard that Persephone Stebbins is back in Britain. How confident are you now? Maybe she will want her man back.”

A twinge of surprise went through Katie’s heart. Then she lifted her chin and was about to give Billy a verbal lashing when Marcus’s voice interrupted them.

“Billy,” drawled Marcus. “Go play somewhere else.”

“Katie,” asked Marcus with a frown after she left in a huff. “What did she say to you?”

Katie debated on whether or not to tell him. She realized that if they were going to have a solid relationship then she couldn’t keep her doubts to herself. Persephone Stebbins was a problem for her. She knew that Marcus had really liked Persephone. Katie reminded herself that he was betrothed to her. She relaxed and told Marcus.

“I know,” said Marcus calmly. “She owled me that she would be back by April.”

“Owled you,” said Katie with a twinge of jealousy.

“Yes,” said Marcus as he gazed into her eyes. “We still keep in touch with one another. She owled me last week to tell me the good news. She met a guy at that Potions thing she went to and they are getting engaged.”

“Oh,” said Katie as a surge of relief went through her.

“She would like to meet you again,” said Marcus.

“You told her about me?” asked Katie with surprise.

“Of course,” said Marcus absently.

“I would be happy to meet her,” said Katie with a grin. “Now that I know she has no romantic interest in you anymore,” thought Katie.

“Katie,” said Marcus pensively. “Do you remember what the medi- witch said about strenuous activity. I have been thinking and I do not think it is a good idea for you to participate in the Quidditch final.”

“Marcus,” hissed Katie as she put a silencing spell around them. “Not so loud. We agreed to keep the baby private. Besides, I have to compete.”

“Why?” snapped Marcus.

“What will I give as an excuse Marcus,” said Katie with a frown.

“I don’t know,” said Marcus. “But you might get hurt. Maybe you could have an accident with your hand or something.”

“What if the accident got out of control,” said Katie. “And I hurt the baby.”

“Merlin,” sighed Marcus. “We have to think of something. Quidditch is too dangerous.”

“The Harpies play until their fifth month,” pointed out Katie.

“But I don’t want you to get hurt,” said Marcus stubbornly.

“Then I’ll tell Gryffindor that I can’t play because my boyfriend who happens to be the Slytherin Quidditch captain, won’t let me. That will go over well,” said Katie sarcastically. “Then one of those Slytherin cronies of Bletchley’s will add two and two together and figure out that I am pregnant,” said Katie as her voice rose. “Then everyone in the school will know and perhaps will start calling me your whore to my face instead of behind my back!”

“Who calls you that,” said Marcus with a dangerous glint to his eyes.

“No one except Billy,” said Katie as she passed a tired hand over her face. “I don’t know what came over me.”

“Hormones,” said Marcus ruefully. “You’ll be screaming at me more in the coming months I expect.”

“It really annoys and surprises me how calm and collected you are,” said Katie as she reached out and held Marcus’s hand.

“I know,” said Marcus. “I have no idea where this patience is coming from either. Maybe my mother did rub off on me. I mean she has to be the most patient person on Earth to put up with my father.”

“What is he like,” asked Katie curiously.

“I’m not sure,” said Marcus. “I don’t know him very well.”

“What does your mother put up with,” asked Katie as she stroked his fingers.

“Mistresses mostly,” said Marcus quietly.

Katie stiffened in surprise and shock. “Why?”

“She loves him,” said Marcus with a frown.

“I love you Marcus Flint,” said Katie dangerously. “But if you ever take a mistress, you had better have your affairs in order because I will kill you, slowly.”

“That goes likewise,” said Marcus.

“I expected no less,” said Katie.

The Astronomy Tower:

Billy stomped up the stairs in a temper. She had thought that for sure mentioning that Stebbins girl would get Bell angry with Marcus. It hadn’t worked. Then she had coerced Davies into making a play for Bell. It hadn’t worked. She had to trigger Flint’s temper. She knew just the person who could do that. Billy flung open the door.

“Bletchley,” said Wood. ‘Where have you been? We started without you.”

Mariah MacDuff lifted her mouth off of Oliver’s straining erection with a smile. She arched her back with a sigh as Davies drove into her wetness with a groan of pleasure. Billy surveyed the lascivious scene with a grin. Then she dropped her robe.
